I don't know why people keep falling for this. He consulted Cameron (who'll put his name to anything) and Scott (who made two awful Alien films). I hope it is good, but the odds are massively against it.

Well fans showed up for Prometheus (no aliens) then Ridley Scott stayed true to the franchise in Covenant (with aliens) but not enough fans showed up. Honestly don't think enough fans will show up. Aliens has always been a niche genre box office wise.
your right, alien franchise isnt such a big deal anymore and hasn't been since the 1990s...but it will always be around as a franchise...
I'm actually surprised Disney is willing to greenlight another aliens movie as they're not big money makers and Disney needs better box office returns to satisfy shareholders.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this film. But I will be cautious all the way until release day and we know more. Hollywood has a bad habit of destroying good story ideas.

Alien was better with a monster of mystery origins, rather than a manmade one.

The barrel is also considerably short for an incinerator unit. Likely originating from the same brand/tech but being different for a different purpose/scenario.
Fire extinguisher perhaps? Welder? CO2 or Liquid Nitrogen unit?

@@TheBaldMrM So upon closer inspection of the teaser trailer - you can see Spaeny in the snippet of the facehuggers smashing through the door glass. She's carrying the same pack on her back, and in fact there's 2 tanks that she's carrying. I do believe these are fuel/propane. But she's also carrying a mace/stun baton in her hands.
So perhaps this is a version of the incinerator unit, designed to be smaller so it's capable of being holstered rather than using a sling (like with Alien & Aliens' versions). It would explain why the tanks are carried on the back, and not on the weapon itself.
The gun itself has a pretty hefty loop on the top. And the pack appears to be fastened in with pipes/rails. So perhaps the gun can be clipped onto this pack with a hook/carabiner when not in use. It would explain how Spaeny could then carry another two-handed weapon like a mace/stun baton or another weapon later on perhaps?
Will we see the Marines again at the end, perhaps?

I've always felt that the reason Cameron's action movies, especially those with a sci-fi element, were so cool, was that he cared about the technical aspects of the universe in which the story is set. Cameron has figured out the nuts and bolts of the tech depicted, and that's why everything looks like it could really work.
Most director's don't take this approach at all and it shows. If Cameron was consulted about the technical/tech elements in this new movie, my anticipation and expectations of a good Alien movie have just gone up a couple of notches.
Really looking forward to this movie.
I walked out of the travesty that was Covenant seven years ago saying I'd NEVER pay to see an Alien film ever again in the cinema. I might wait and hear Mr. H's verdict before I see this. At least you will be honest and I KNOW you're a fan of the universe. I trust your opinion.
i didnt mind covenant,apart from the alien showing up at the end...just wish they used the original earlier script that linked everything together ..

One thing we can be certain of, (unlike Alvarez's movies incl. this one) casting and score were clearly very important to the directors of the classics.
Yeah but I just rolled my eyes at the picture of the new girl wielding a flamethrower. It’s like why is it always a chick fighting off the the alien creature with a big weapon or flamethrower? Why do they need to constantly repeat that trope? It diminishes how unique Ripley as a character was. Can’t they come up with anything new? Why can’t they have a new male lead. It’s always a woman at the helm, even with the Prometheus films. It’s like a running theme with this series.

As my number #1 film from day 1 being Aliens. .... I am pumped but nervous from scars from everything that followed.
So hyped for this. Furiosa, Deadpool and Wolverine, Borderlands, Alien Romulus, all in the coming weeks and months. That's a great slate of films potentially. And December has Nosferatu which sounds perfect to end the year on.

@jackstraw4222 sort of. If only Scott would have been given the opportunity to finish, I believe there were 2 more movies that would have led to the original Alien movie. Not to mention, the franchise being sold to Disney slowed things down, too.

What turns me off a bit with Aliens Romulus is that ONCE AGAIN we are getting another female protagonist replaying the same themes like the previous films. It looks to be the same themes that we've seen countless times in the Aliens films and even video games. Why can't they sit down and write a damn script that doesn't feature another female playing the same role that has been done so many times. Watching the trailer, I felt that it looked it good, but then there were shots that made me shake my head because I've seen it so many times in the previous Aliens films and my excitement died down because I already got a good idea how this film will play out.
.if you are making alien scary again it must be in some isolated place in space or another planet ,and have a new species of alien....have no contact with anything until the end of the series or movie...most of all make sure the alien remains largely elusive ...
@@jackstraw4222 - Well, how about this for a new Alien film. You have a cast that is diverse in age and occupations (scientists, military, and spacecraft crew) and they are part of an exploration unit. The story is set in the same Aliens universe, but this involves a new corporation that is contracted with the military. The team is enroute to link up with their command ship that has gone dark. Once they dock with the ship, we get introduced to a new form of aliens that are similar to the xenomorphs, but there are differences.
That is what I think they should have done with Romulus. We should be getting introduced to new aliens with different capabilities and appearance, and also expand the Aliens universe beyond Ripley and Weyland Industries. Same universe, but the universe is vast, and there are other corporations seeking to explore space as well. We need new themes while still enjoying the fact that it is all still connected to the Aliens timeline.
Cool, can't wait for this film.
I gotta say that I'm impressed by Fede thus far. Hopefully it's a solid movie that is well-received.

I get that there is the pure adrenalin of the first film, but then a resolution of some kind and they formulate a plan, so you get to catch your breath rather than entering adrenalin psychosis. Thanks for the effort you put into these posts MrH. I'm really looking forward to this film.
All I can say is after Alien & Aliens the franchise went pear shaped I just hope this film doesn’t disappoint , I can honestly say I’m a little bit hyped 👍

I honestly believe Fede Alvarez has a great feel for what die hard Alien fans want to see. This movie has a TON of potential. Especially with the timeline the movie takes place in.

I am actually really looking forward to something for once! I haven't been able to for so many years. Been so deeply disappointed over & over with all my beloved franchises. And even if I remain cautiously optimistic considering that the Alien franchise hasn't really been great since Aliens & the latest installments have, with exception of Isolation, not even been good, I am still feeling optimistic. I am actually looking forward to something again! I can feel an actual hype! I just hope we all don't just run into yet another wall here head first.

It might seem like a match made in heaven. But Ridley Scott is really hit or miss, and his later stuff is definitely more miss than hit. And Cameron I feel is so wrapped up in his Avatar movies that he's not dedicated to other franchises since he helped write Terminator Dark Fate and look how that turned out
ridley is in his mid 80s,its no surprise that hes slipping away in terms of movies and also its expected that he should be out of touch with franchises..
@jackstraw4222 well not really. Unless he has like dementia or something his age shouldn't matter. Scorcese is in his 80s and still makes great films. And as for Cameron if he's hired to help on a film he should put all his effort into it. Your mindset is why films suck now, constantly coming up with excuses why filmmakers couldn't do better
Better not be any fingering going on. The effects will be excellent score should be good it's the cast will they have any presence we will see.
This doesn't really mean much, unfortunately, Fede Alvarez isn't known for writing good films.
It's good to see he wants to be adherent to the original films, but at the end of the day, the last person you want writing an Alien film is a horror writer/director who already has done two shitty reboots of other movies.
I think this will be a great addition to the Alien franchise from what I am seeing and hearing so far as I love both Alien and Aliens which are the best films anyway. I can't wait to see this movie hopefully it will be really good.

God I hope this is good! All the Alien fans need this. I'm cautiously optimistic though because we've been burnt so many times before. I guess it's positive that Alvarez spoke to Scott and Cameron but they haven't exactly had a good track record of late Ridley with Covenant and Cameron promoting Dark fate. But we will see. Alien creature terrorises a group of teenagers on an abandoned space station, they must have got their astro-navigation certificates early in life to be left in control of such a vessel which they all arrive in!? sounds ludicrous when thinking about it, but hey-ho, come August the knives will either be in, or out. Yes, I will remain sceptical about all of it until I see it with my own eyes.

I think it's a bad gamble to have both Alien(s) vibe. Either be more horror style like the first one or action terror like the second one. I'm still hopeful for this movie.
If they are going for both, then they should do it like alien isolation, example - they destroy the first alien either explosion of a compartment on the station then they go and return the power to the station and they find the nest in this place with alot more aliens

As we've already seen a frozen Xeno, I'm wondering if the scientists on the station use extreme cold (like the company in Alien Resurrection did) to control Xeno specimens.
George Lucas and ILAM did a brilliant job of conceptualizing their far, far away galaxy to look *_very_* lived in and authentic. Not sure if it can be said that they pioneered this in scifi films, but it's the first example I can think of. It actually worries me to hear that part about "it's similar to Alien... and then gradually... it's more like Aliens" because movies for years now have been failing somewhat due to rehashing previous (great) films, usually into a sequel, prequel or remake that lacks real substance and just tries to live off of its predecessor's success, i.e. Star Wars 7-8-9 & The Hobbit (all 3) The Rings of Power🤢along with many other examples I don't have the will or courage to dredge up from the sewage system of my mind that I happily and intentionally flushed them into. But hey, here's to hoping I'm wrong! 🍻
The trailer from a month ago or so I can't remember was not all that good, it appeared to be covering old/repetitive ground. James being involved doesn't mean an instant winner and the weird deepthroating frame from stated trailer was stupid, I thought anyway.

I remember vaguely that when I was 10 years old cuz I'm 54 now my mom took me to go see the movie and I had a nightmare about a chair slowly spinning around with a xenomorph in it and my grandfather brought me the alien action figure from the movie where the back of its head pulled the trigger in the mouth opens in the inner teeth come out years later I found that was worth a lot of money
I remember the last time you simping hard for Alien Covenant and that turned out to be a disaster lol. I am not looking forward to this.

Yep totally hyped for this, the correct boxes seem to be ticked (not the woke bs kind) I'm talking about a good canon alien film! The world needs more alien movies the stories done properly are limitless if they stick to Scifi HORROR! For me personally and this is probably not what alot of fans want to hear but the alien franchise starts at Promethius and ends with aliens.. Not saying alien 3/4 are crap I just really didn't like the direction they took killing hicks and newt was senseless imo! But for all Promethius and covenants faults I thought they were a solid foundation, it all had to start somewhere! Just say in! But done correctly those two starter films need desperately another film to bridge the gap between covenant and alien.. Its a gaping whole and it needs filling.. But that's my opinion unpopular as some may think! 😊
Oh and alien isolation, just throwing it out there would make a good edition if turned into a movie 🤔😉
