Good thing they included the "Grip Zone". I've been holding handguns by the slide this whole time. Thanks Springfield!
I was considering getting a "Grip Zone" tattoo
I etched "Grip Zone" on all my spoons and now I can eat cereal! Thanks for making me a cereal killer, Springfield!
Headshot, I'm so glad that Springfield Armory wrote GRIP ZONE on their pistols. Otherwise I wouldn't know where to hold it.
I wrote "Grip Zone" on all my spoons and now I'm a cereal killer.
They took that label off the grip in 2019.
Got my xd mod 2 a couple of months ago. This is my first pistol. I enjoy it immensely. Use it as my CCW pistol with a shoulder holster by triple k. Would highly recommend it.
Why do so many people hate the grip safety? To me, it's a non-factor. I have never, ever seen someone shoot a semi-automatic handgun with less than a substantial purchase on the grip which would engage the "grip safety" anyway. It's done without even thinking about it. Not an issue for me. I have an issue with magazine disconnects.
+John Faggello
Because they're dumb asses. I mean, the 1911 has been around how long? The notion it's some kind of liability is simply farcical. Most of the complaints I see are that it's annoying because it keeps you from racking the slide or whatnot. And that forces me to conclude those people are simply fucking retarded. It prevents you from doing nothing in any meaningful way, and better still, by virtue of the grip safety causes you to pay more attention when chambering a round when not actually shooting, and therefore serves to mitigate accidental discharges.
If you're intentionally discharging the firearm, it doesn't impede that in any way. But if you're not intending to discharge the firearm and holding it in some other way, you actually have to think about what you're doing or the slide won't even rack. And I for one appreciate that feature. I was just reading something a while back about how the L.A. Sheriff's Department saw an escalation in accidental discharges after switching to sidearms with no safeties.
Ultimately, it's the complaint of fanboys of other guns who look for something, anything, about which to complain for the purposes of denigrating this firearm. But I recently tried one, and that grip is awesome. I never thought much of it when I saw it advertised before. But having held it now, I don't think they could have made it fit my hand any better, short of doing a plaster cast of my hand and designing the grip around it. It's great.
Because it's another mechanism that can break. Guns breaking in the life or death situation is probably not a good outlook
edit: sorry didn't realize that i was replying to 3 year old comment
I own this guy in the .45 acp version. Love it!!!!!! A bit on the heavy side but love it lol. STAY SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video I just picked up the full size in 40 Smith and Wesson and I love it almost more then my glock 19 lol
whole reason I pick it over flock is grip safety
Thanks for the video. Looking at buying one soon along with an xds or xde haven't decided for sure
I love the grip safety!
Just bought the xds mod 2 45acp, from rural king. Got a soft case, hard case, 5 mags, and a rail laser for $489. I think it was a great deal. Took it from the store to the range, put 100 rounds through it. Ran perfect, very happy.
Hegshot, First off, I love watching your videos. Keep up the great work. I'm a new shooter looking to purchase the xd mod 2 here in Houston, TX. I like all the safety features this firearm offers, I know it might be overkill for experienced shooters, but for me, I like it.! Glad to see you like the firearm as well. Thank you
+patrick viado Yeah not my thing but it doesnt matter because its such a great gun
Great Gun I love the grip safety!!!
It's made in Croatia...It's the best !!! I have been to the plant several times. It's still HS Produkt. Great Review !!!
Good video and review. I just purchased this firearm about 2 months ago. Have only put about 50 rounds through it. I really like it a lot.
+Tuahe Chang Thanks!
Grip safety is the best idea for a striker fired handgun. I'm a little skeptical carrying a cocked and unlocked gun in my pants even though it may have a trigger safety feature. That's still not enough for me. So adding the grip safety makes me a bit more comfortable.
And you don't really know the thing is there. I was hesitant, but I bought a used XDm and I'm a convert. These things are nice. I've hated on them ever since I shot one in my conceal carry training. I shot a Sig P226, a Glock 19, and the Springfield XD. I shop that damned XD way better than the other two. *shrug* Hard to argue with it when it works and is made well.
I just got this gun today at a local gun show in Florida. I traded my used beretta px4 storm subcompact 9mm with 1400 rounds out of it. For the xd9 brand new with the stainless slide. Took it to the gun range rite after an put 300 rounds through it an was highly impressed. I think I made a good trade
Picking my XD mod. 2 (9mm) FDE up tomorrow. Have an Xdm 3.8 45 ACP and XDS 45 ACP, both great guns. Also have plenty of Glocks and love them too. Was looking for a double stack 9mm and chose this over the G26 as I wanted something a little different. I am sure I will add a G26 to the collection at some point anyway.
superb review I got my mod 2 45acp fde and I absolutely love it
+don seguin Thanks man
Always professional, informative videos.
Great gun here. I Got the 4inch barrel 9mm Mod 2 n it shoot great.
there is something about the way this gun shoots that i absolutely love. the trigger seems so smooth and light. this is by far my favorite gun.
+LocChokingVMorningG Agreed. Its a good one for sure
Just picked up the 45 4.0 from Palmetto State Armory for 349.00. great price for a great gun!
Nice hat, go boy'z.....OK not this season, but next year. I have 2 pistols in springfield's xd line, however i keep going back to CZ, I'm something of a CZ fanatic have been for 30+ years. Keep up the good work.
+Jay “Serrated75” Thomas Yeah we aren't doing so hot this year! It's all good lol. Cz guns look awesome man and eventually I will get one for a review. Maybe a P07 or something. Thanks man
I have both the 9mm and the .45. Both are soft shooting guns. Very comfortable to hold and shoot. Its a shame Springfield stopped producing them.
This pistol looks top heavy. It the one thing I don’t like about it but it’s just appearance. It shoots like a dream. The felt recoil is minimal and the accuracy is outstanding. It is comfortable and easy to hold on target. I bought mine in the subcompact 9mm version to complement my full size Mod2 for CCW. I wanted more rounds than my M&P Shield offered. Now I have 14, even with the flush magazine. Great video. Thanks for your contribution to the growing knowledge base on this marvelous pistol. MikeinMinnesota
I hate that it says grip zone. Very cringe worthy. With that said I just bought the gun lol
Mark Navarro no one likes it but no one cares either. LOL, I hate it too, but you don't see it when you're holding it, plus it feels the best in the hand (for me) by far.
Hate the grip safety man ! Sold my xdm 45 because of it.
I wrote "Grip Zone" on all my spoons and now I'm a cereal killer.
J AR15 Why do u hate the grip safety? Did it keep poking u in the eye?
I finally received my Springfield Armory GearUp on 5/22/17 it comes with 4 mags, mag holder and holster
With the "grip zone," grip safety, and rear striker indicator I'm surprised it does not come with a set of training wheels. Still it's a very modern pistol and a fine shooter.
I think the grip safety is aimed more torwards small kids their little hands wouldn't be able to fit back there and pull the same trigger just my concept
would this be a good first gun? I can open carry in my state and that's my intended use for the gun. to carry with me and home defense
Got the Bi-Tone for my wife and getting all Black for me. I already have XDM 3.8. 45. Can't wait to add to my SA gun family.
So out of curiosity do you know what the difference is between the xd mod2 and the xdm besides the xdm supposedly has a match grade barrel on it? Even on springfields website comparing the two I can't figure out the difference
The quality of the Springfield along with it's 100% reliability combined with the fact that it doesn't need numerous upgrades right out of the box like a Glock makes this pistol my EDC.
great review, with the inception of the short trigger reset on these and like guns is a misconception because the reset point is only going back to where the trigger pull actually starts much like the DA revolvers!!!
I'll choose this gun over other guns because of the grip safety, I believe it is necessary for them to have!
+Charles Ross Thanks man
I think you two do a great job, this is second video I've watched I would maybe shorten up just a little just for time sake and those with short att span. I do own 2 xd I did own a third but gave it to my son. God. Bless
+Toby Combs Thanks for the suggestion. More people say the vids helped than people complain about the length so I'll take the heat from the select few :)
I bought the Mod 2 .45 ACP a few weeks back…it is a fine short barrel handgun…the 9 round magazine carries one less than my full size M&P .45, which I carry without problem Texas summer heat and all…the 13 round magazine for the SA makes up for the difference. Picked-up a holster from Clinger Holsters and a magazine carrier from Kytex Shooting Gear…both are great products….great handgun.
I just bought the 45 version as well and I'm waiting for it to come in. I'm dying to get it in. Please tell me about the 45 recoil, concealing the heavier 45 and how happy you are with it. My two concerns are I'm a Glock guy and a 9mm guy, so I'm going outside of my comfort zone, but excited to do so. Overall, are you happy with your purchase? I own a Glock 43, 26 and 19. I conceal the 19 fine in the cooler months, so in your opinion do you think I'll find the XD similar to the 19 in size, but maybe not weight? Sorry, for babbling, just happy to see someone who got the 45 version. Thanks.
+Joe Traina (atrain311) Joe, I don't know how familiar you are with any .45 ACP handgun. I have carried and shot .45 ACP for 37+ years, so, I am familiar with a 5" 1911 and even a friend's 3 inch Kimber, which was nothing in recoil, so, I had no reservations in buying and shooting the Mod 2.
I have other .45 ACPs, and I like ALL because they provide what I desire in each gun, if that makes sense. The reason I desired the Mod 2 .45 ACP is barrel length. I wanted a short barrel length for comfort as well as more concealability. The short barrel length comes at a loss though...muzzle velocity (about 50 fps loss for each inch of barrel length loss). I don't want to get into a caliber or muzzle velocity debate, but I don't believe the loss in muzzle velocity is a hindrance. If one needs to shoot once, then two or three times isn't going to matter.
I am extremely happy with the purchase of this handgun. I generally practice combat distances of 10 yards, and I have no problem shooting 3 inch groups taking my time and remaining in the thoracic area shooting multiple, quick shots. So, for you concern about recoil, it is very manageable.
When I carry the handgun, I carry it in a Kytex holsters and carry a spare magazine in one of their kydex magazine carriers, which I like very much. www.kytexgear.com I have a Kytex holster for a 1911 and another magazine carrier for another 10 round .45 ACP magazine. Good stuff.
Now, as for Glock, I have only shot one Glock, and that was about 25 years ago. Five shots very quickly at 10 yards in the head/face...very nice, but I'm not a 9MM fan. I have never owned a Glock. The Glock 21 is too large for my hands, but the Mod 2 fits like a charm. What else can I say ? Oh, I replaced the floor plate on the Mod 2 9 round magazine with a Pearce Springfield Armory XD magazine extension so I could get my small finger rested better...add very little to the butt length and is still very concealable.
Hope this helps...
What a great post, THANK YOU! You just made me even more excited. I believe we have a responsibility to practice/train if we're carrying, so I will work hard to learn, manage and mitigate the recoil. It will be pricier to shoot, but worth it. 9mm is just feeling a little small right now. I'm excited for the change and really excited about the mod 2! Again, thank you!
+Joe Traina (atrain311) Joe, have you ever shot a .40 S&W cartridge out of any handgun ? If so, the recoil will be no different if not a bit less. If the handgun fits your hand well and properly, you'll have no problems...Let me know what you feel after you've shot...really...re-post here.
Yes, practice leads to perfect...I try to go to a range at least twice a month.
+Lee D sadly, Lee, I have not shot a 40 cal. I've had my NYS permit since 2005, but always shot 9mm. I started with a sign p228, then found Glock and have the 19, 26 and 43. I won't abandon the 9mm as I still love them, but I wanted a larger caliber and heard/read repeatedly that 40 is snappy where .45 is more of a push backwards. If follow up shots are important to me, less muzzle flip seems a better option, so that's why I bypassed the 40 and went 45. I know I'm in for a surprise, but I know it can be done. I've read that the mood 2 handles recoil better than most guns, so that was one of my deciding factors. Also, since my wife likes me carrying whenever legal, the small size of the mod 2 was great for concealment.
Great guns,.. I love my old XD compact,..
me too. I prefer the 3 dot's over the fiber front sight,
like the gun but having shot glocks for years my right thumb keeps hitting the slide lock with my current grip . training issue I guess
The reason I picked the XD over the P320 was the grip safety and trigger safety
For personal defense I use the M&P shield chambered in 9 mm, but for home defense I use the XD subcompact chambered in 40 Cal first GEN, on the XD subcompact if the gun was fully loaded one in the chamber it was hard to release the magazine is it like that on the mod 2?
First time I check out one of your vids, man and I got to say you have a real helpful review. I just purchased this model in .40 cal after trying it out. I was sold I liked it a lot. However, I'm so used to my Glock as I train with it a lot. And I do mean a lot. Transitioning from the two different triggers back and forth is going to be weird for me. Any tips on that? Great video. Subbed to your channel.
+0Rockstar7 Thanks bro. Idk we shoot many different types of guns and it can sometimes be a challenge to transition but honestly just practicing with any of them and you can get good with any gun.
Nice review 💪🏽
Yeah, what a stellar dude letting you review the Mod 2.I agree with JH6 as well, really cool people out there.
Being a big XD fan, i almost traded in my original XD9 for the Mod 2.Honestly, i couldn't justify it($200 for a trade in btw). With over 650 rds without not a single malfunction i couldn't do it.Yes it has some nicer features, but i already replaced the front sight with a red fiber optic and also added some talon grips.
I'll add, the original sights do suck, just too tiny...especially the rear sights.Last month i blacked out the rear and with the front red fiber optic, it's much better.Just a little tinkering, it was well worth it.Great video HEG!
CWB1863 Thanks brother. Yeah it sounds like you got all the upgrades already. You're set bro
Love this gun.
I like the grip zone compared to the cheese grater grips of original and XDS.
I got mine about a month ago and I still haven't shot it. ugh!!!! Hopefully going today. Had to watch a video to get a "fix" lol. Great job.
+jafi87 Sweet thanks bro
2 years later, he or she still hasnt shot it.
Why does the 16 mag look different at the bottom from the other xd9 sub mod 2 ????
The way it looks reminds me of a Steyr M9 (which is a excellent pistol that can be had for under $500).
Total Truth Yeah A little different but definitely a cool design
I didn’t get all those things but I want those magazines and holster
If you could only have one, Heg, which would it be? I have the XDM Mod2 3.3 in .45 and the M&P 9c as well. Like both. The stock trigger is by far better on the XD. I had some double feeding initially in the 9c, that I attribute to really stiff mag springs that broke in, that went away. The XDM is Rick solid reliable. Both have great ergos. The large palm swell on the 9c fits my hand perfectly, but the grip is pretty good on the XD and the texture of the stippling is spot on. The stock sights on the 9c are well done and the rear sight has the non glare lines and I love the fiber optic on the XD. The 9c points as well as any pistol I own. I shoot both equally pretty much. The XDM absorbs the .45 recoil impulse impressively.
The 9c is American. I like both.
Btw - My trigger has no creep after you hit the wall. It is very smooth in it’s take up with a clean break. I got mine last year. Either there’s variance or they improved it.
I have a 1911. The grip safety is really a non issue IMO. Way better than a thumb safety.
I just got this gun and I love it. Oh and NICE HAT!!!!!
+CowboysRunTheEast Great name my dude :)
Do anyone know Springfield is making a xd-s mod 2 in 9 mm??
Just purchased one mine came in a textile bag though not a hard case
Thanks for sharing this video help my frind alot
No problem
Great video. Let's see it in the holster (iwb) if possible. Thanks
+EmotionRadio Thanks. This was actually a borrowed gun. I no longer have it
+Hegshot87 Ok, no problem. Still enjoyed the review. A thought for future videos though (show holstered). Thanks.
The holster sucks, you’ll want to buy your own. Especially if you fix a light or laser on the front.
We are alway talking about bad stuff but there are so many good people outthere! Glad you remind man l! Thanks!
Jarhead6 Yeah man for sure. Now a lot of media won't talk about the good cause it's "boring" lol but there are definitely more good people than bad and thats what we have to focus on. Thanks my brother for always watching and the support
Hegshot87 definitely man! Keep up the good work!
I actually want the grip safety
Its a good review but maybe speed up the shooting to get to the results quicker. Some of it was like watching paint dry. Also maybe mark the holes when you bring the target in to inspect? That way you will easily know what set each hole goes with. Keep up the good work. Out of the three guns you showed, which is your fav?
+Mike Rocha Thanks for the suggestion
How can you hate the grip safety??
How would you say this one compares to other ds carry options you have reviewed recently such as the M&P 9c, FNS9c, P320? Which one do you like the best?
Big Iron Its right there with all of those. With that being said I still love the P320 better than any I have reviewed IMO
How are the mod 2 without grip zone?. I can get one for 299$!
I would like these but they’re not available in. California.
Does it have a rail to mount a mini light?
Sig 320 subcopact vs xd mod 2 9mm quality and accuracy ..
I really like the extra capacity they offer. How many rounds does the 45ACP offer?
Dj Project 9+1 and 13+1 with the extension.
I personally don't use any of the crap that comes with the springfields. I would prefer an extra magazine rather than that crap. The pistols are awesome I love my XD 9 mod 2 subcompact. Just hate the price of magazines
Grip safety is probably the best feature. I bought for open carry. But this is not a concealable gun by any stretch of the imagination especially the double stack its just bulky not a ccw.
Speaking of which full disclosure I do live in Texas and it gets hot here so while the xd9 mod 2 is great it doesnt pass the shorts and t shirt test. Might work up north but not here.
thanks for the video. im from Milwaukee wis. and can not find an xd mod 2 3" with the mag and pistol holsters. and loder. where can i get it or should I look for a kit
casmanny73 That is a promotion that Springfield runs about once per year.
Have u shot the 4 inch XD Mod 2 yet? Wondering if theres a big difference in accuracy between them.
+Ryan Fritch I havent yet
great review, I actually have a mod 2 .45 FDE and I love it, I like 1911's so the grip safety is a plus. just a suggestion for you and the viewers, the alien gear iwb cloak tucked 3.0 is amazing with this pistol. It handles that little bit extra weight like it's a single stack xds. But your review and hickok45's review helped me make my decision on this pistol so thank you
+Robert Witherington Sweet man glad you like it. I like to hear people buy guns based on what we say and turns out you like it. Thanks bro
+Hegshot87 do you have any excited with the holster I mentioned
@@robertwitherington6919, thanks for the info on the Alien Gear holster, I was actually just wondering if this gun would work well with it. Cheers!🍻
Typo on that I actually have the .40 not the .45
I got a Mod 2 in .40 cal on Christmas eve. I watched a lot of video reviews and decided it was one of the two guns I am going to buy. The other is a Glock 26. I haven't shot it yet but I really like the way it feels in my hand. Thanks for the helpful review.
+davedeja No problem. Congrats on the new gun!
Damn I wish Springfield didn't get rid of the mod 2. XDS need to be offered in a double stack version.
Why does the grip safely prevent from racking the slide? What's the purpose of this?
14_07_22 I assume that it is so you're less likely to rack the slide with it pointed at something.
Man that's a nice package there!. But I'm still a M&P shooter. By the way Jen, nicr carving on the target there!! You both are. Later bro nice vid
john bouley Thanks for watching :) -Jen
Great review. Can you give me some online gun shops that sell this gun? Thank you
raffeal247, I think that the best on line gun store to check out is Gun Buyer. Great discount pricing. I have on order a Springfield XD9 4" Mod 2 for only $411.60. No other on line gun store could even come close to that price.
Awesome review.
+Roman Rosalez Thanks
How much did you pay for that HS2000?
what Grain bullet you was shooting ?
I don't understand why the grip zone bothers so many people they was just a business starting up and was lucky enough to get a contract with Springfield so they took advantage and got in some good advertising and the texture does a pretty good jjob of doing what its supposed to especially whenever your hands are wet or muddy.. id have to say i like the custom stippling jobs thats available now like on the Smith n wesson and some glocks
Very nice grouping
Its 2019 and theres no more "Grip Zone" lettering....
NinjaHiro Dude , yep mine doesn’t
Neither does mine 😂
Hegshot, XD Mod2 or the XDM?
I am the proud owner of a Springfield xd mod 2 .45 acp
Christopher Davis Me too! I shoot my XD MOD II 45 subcompact better than any other gun that I own, which includes my Glock 19 and 26.
@@joseCalderon1976 same for me.
@@rusharley134 I think it has to do with the 45. For some reason I shoot 45 better than 9mm most of the time. Weird I know. But everyone is different. I also tried a 1911 and hit bulls eyes with the first 5 shots.
@@joseCalderon1976 could be, never thought about that. I have a Sig P220, 3 Colt 1911s and the XD all .45s. I love them all but the XD just feels good in my hand.
I bought 2 xd mod 2s last week. Love the guns. loader sucks.
Alot of people gripe about the grip safety, but the XD's are a true single action striker fired gun. With Glocks the striker is under pre-tension and the trigger finishes pulling it back to 100%. With the springfields the striker is at 100%
akman45304 Didn't know that and I have two XD's. When I was first into guns, I thought the grip safety was ugly. After perusing guns shelves for a while, it started to look better. After trying it out, I'm glad I have guns with them. It gives me peace of mind when I'm stuffing the gun into my pants without looking.
What's going on with Springfield armory website? I tried to get into their firearms but seen nothing on the web accept on CZcams .
Never mind I got the site.
armedrebellion47 Ok cool. Thanks for watching!
Excellent review! Did you state where you got it and for how much (sorry, I'm an older fart)? As of July 2016, they're $449 from Sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.
This one was actually borrowed. Thank you
DoctorMaxMoebius That is way overpriced for an HS2000
Patriots Fan its not a hs2000
A monster drink on the gun bench, no wonder you had a shotgun group. Good thing the gun had a grip zone or you probably would have dropped it.
Does anybody know if it has a mag safety disconnect? Or any other hidden crap.
I'm thinking about getting this pistol.
Nope. You can fire one in the tube.
Buurga Topek
Thanks! That's good to know. I won't carry something that has any of that junk. The grip safety is bad enough. But I can deal with that.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on Springfield XD Sub-Compact and still Can't Make Up My Mind on which Caliber: 9MM .40SW .45ACP , Any advice ??
BON AK if you have a magazine capacity limit in your state, that might be a consideration. 9mm is the cheapest ammo of the three and most readily available.
9 mm is used by the fbi and the price is cheaper than 45 all day
9mm is better for getting back in target faster and ammo is cheaper
What kinda shooting was that in the beginning?!
😅😐
I Love mine
As of 2016 Springfield Armory no longer sends out all the goodies along with their handguns. You will no longer receive the mag holder, speed loader, or the holster!
+RGambler1 I didn't know they no longer offer that stuff
They ought to offer the goody bag for a discounted price, like $50 for those extras - covers their costs, plus keep up the good will.
still come with the case?
I will never buy a Springfield until they get rid of that stupid grip safety , I just don't won't that or a thumb safety on my guns at all!!!!
I don't think you was ready for the gripe zone you just are that shoulder up
I don't understand why the whole grip zone thing gets so much attention. Marketing gimmicks are usually kind of stupid but all companies have them.
It’s a subcompact for a double stack 45. I have the 9 round mag, the 13 round mag and made a 10 round mag manipulating the XDM compact mag. My modified 10 round mag is only a quarter inch taller than my 9 round mag. Here’s my video link on how I did it.
czcams.com/video/2abW7qa5Q3g/video.html
You’re a terrible shot bro 🤣
Seahawks !!! Skwaaaaaa
