Cardinals don’t like a lot of motion in the room outside their aquarium, and no amount of dither fish or cover will help, so they’re not ideal for little kids. But… They in groups of 20+ they are super fun to watch if you have a peaceful house.

Thanks for the video!!!

Black neons are 100% the easiest to take care of and they are very outgoing compared to the rest.
Cardinals are very skittish in my experience, they freakout at the slightest amount of movement in the room.
Green neons are the most shy, they love to hide and not be seen and many people share this experience with them.
Regular neons are great, but finding healthy stock is difficult because they are mass produced.
Black neons have none of these cons, in fact they have no cons.
They are outgoing, school very tight together, and if you have ever seen them in the home aquarium you'll know the name Black neon does not do them justice.
They have a beautiful baby blue color to them once they settle and color up.
And black neons only cost 2-3$

I have more experience with cardinal tetras. They've done really well for me. My water parameters are 7.8 pH, 200 TDS. In my established aquariums, the pH is 7.0. Cardinal tetras are active fish. I think that a 10 gallon aquarium is too small. A 20 long is the minimum tank size that I would choose for a group of 10 or so. My current group of cardinal tetras are doing well in a 29 gallon aquarium. The oldest one are almost 5 years old.

Neon tetras are hard to keep alive because health issues. Their look-alike, the Cardinal tetra, is slightly larger but much hardier. Neon tetras, glofish and guppies are common and popular but all three die easily.

    If you have hard water...none.
My water is liquid rock, with over 20 dGh, and I keept both. Cardinal Tetra, from a group of 20, survivors zero. Then I swich to Neon Tetra, heard there were more forgiving with water hardness, tried to have 100 of them, until I got a bad batch that introduced neon disease in my tank, lost about 80% of my neon population, got 15-20 left. but they are the last, I will not be buying any more of them. I know that is common advice that is best to buy neon tetras from a local breeder, but guess what...if you live in an area with hard water...there will be no local breeder. 🙁
But still want to keep tetras, so I'm making the swich to Rasbora, with those, as many as you put in the tank, is as many as you are gone get, losses are rare if any. And maybe some black neon tetras, if they will be available (when they were available, I've ignore them, cuz neon tetra red and shiny, black lame...if only I knew 😐)

@@laattardo I like emperor tetras, but they are not available in my area.🤔 And while I see that they are somewhat tolerant to hard water, hardness: 18 - 215 ppm according to their species profile, getting them from an external source is risky when I don't know if the water they were breed/raised is compatible with mine. 🤔
When it comes to buying fish, I'm very dependant of the local breeders/sellers, because they are the only ones that I can be sure they have water parameters similar to mine.
