Not a fan of Africans personally but absolutely love my South and Central Americans
Could not agree more!
Yeah I agree african cichlids are overrated American cichlids have personalities unlike Africans
I love my pair of keyhole cichlids. They've been wonderful community fish in my 75, never shown any aggression to anyone. I thought they were going to be shy and hide all the time based on what I'd read about them, but they come to the glass when I'm watching them and show their little attitudes. They're definitely not as pretty as my pair of GBRs, but they absolutely have better personalities.
That’s my pick too 😊
Keyholes are great fish.
Yes!!! Love them! Thanks!
Live laugh love cichlids
My favorites are the Julidochromis, German Blue Ram, Bolivian Ram, Kribensis, Festive Cichlid, and Golden Dwarf Acara!!
Red heads and Sveni got me!
Love my electric blue acaras. Definitely my favorite cichlid that I have owned
Jade eye cichlids look amazing
Great selection. There's one i like alot thats becoming hard to find in my area and its the T-bar cichlid. Beautiful peaceful and doesn't really mess with plants. Imo. Thanks for sharing
My favorites so far are Severum, Jack Dempsey, Yellow Labs, Electric Blue Acara, Geophagus and Angelfish
Great video. I have a variety of Geos in multiple tanks, and they’re definitely one of my favorites.
I just got my first and am really enjoying them!
My favorite cichlids are Firemouths, Electric Blue Acara, and Geophagus Tapajos. Also, Kribensis and Bolivian Rams.
Great video! I was nervous to try cichlids but started with shelldwellers and now I have a geophagus Tapajos, Firemouth, and sajica in a different tank. They are all still young, but the Sajica is my favorite for now. He’s a showstopper and has a great personality!
That's awesome!
Epic video
Great list, recently set up a 40 inch tanganyikan tank with some similis shell dwellers and 3 juvenile leleupi and loving them so far....man are the similis feisty though! But I'm sure they'll settle over the next few days...the number one cichlid for me (currently) has to be my Uarus, so much personality and show some absolutely fascinating behaviours, especially interacting with eachother.
Great video!
Have you ever kept a pygmy sunfish?
I'm a nanofishaholic, and they'll likely be my first cichlid. The dancing males are too much. 😍 ...and those colors.
Yes! Very cool fish, but ours hid a lot.
Love the video but my favorite cichlid is the Jack Dempsey. I have a 9 inch male and a 5 inch female. The female is a pink jack Dempsey. I love cichlids in general but the Jack Dempsey is my favorite.
I love Red Devils but they are such a handful. Mountains of sand on one corner, taking fake plants and stacking them up, pulling heaters off suction cups!
I'm surprised there's no mention of EBAs
That's my favourite!!
Those were tough leaving off the list!
Just mention the blue acara. Electric blue is just a color morph that came out 10 years ago.
@@PlainsPup There's a difference in their temperament too.
@@PlainsPup I do like the og ones alot, sadly they are not available near me. I got one but it turned out to be a female green terror. Good thing she is a pacifist🥲
I'm so glad you put the Panduros on this list. I have a group myself I have in a 20 high. Do you have any tips/luck with breeding them?
I haven't been able to breed them in my water. Probably best to keep pH under 7.0 with water hardness in the low single digits.
Thanks, I'll give that a try!
The yellow lab Mbuna is my all time favorite.
My favs are Discus but don't have the room for a big enough tank. I also LOVE German Blue rams (love the black varieties) 🖤
I dont keep fish anymore, but jags will ALWAYS be a favorite of mine. Along with krobia xingu for a smaller option❤
Hello! I'm in Northern IL and was wondering if you could recommend a good place to buy fish, please? Love your videos!
Greenwater Aquarist Society Swap! Also Tropiquatics in Lombard.
@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you so much!
Jewel cichlid is my favorite. Never cared for Discus or Angelfish
Discus colors are like freshwater versions of saltwater fish to me. Beyond my capabilities. I like to experience them virtually though. 😄
Oscars are my favourite
Electric blue jack Dempsey, starry night cichlid green terror gold saum ,Oscar , dragon blood peacock ,star Shaphire, frontosa, ink fin calvus, red severum, viejas any of them
Cichlids are highly intelligent fish.
The other day I went to the SeaLife Aquarium (Mall of America) and saw a tank full of Redheaded Cichlids. I'm still in love.
That’s so cool!
No jack dempseys??? Those are my favorite cichlids as their color is stunning
Personal top 10 Cichild species (in no order) would be:
-Angelfish
-Bolivian Rams
-Acaras (Royal/Electric Blue/Flag/Threadfin)
-Princess Cichild/Neolamprologus brichardi
-Apistogrammas (Macmasteri/Cacucotuoides/Baenschi/Agassizii)
-T Bar Cichild
-Geophagus (Tapajos/Altifrons)
- Julidochromis (Ornatus/Regani)
- Egyptian Mouthbrooder
-Pelviachromis (Kribensis, etc)
Honorable mentions: Demasoni and Keyhole Cichilds
I only kept Angelfish (Marble), Bolivian/German Blue Rams, and Apistogramma (Caucotuoides and Macmasteri), but I do hope to keep many of these species at some point in my life.
I know I somewhat cheated, but then it would be top 30, instead of 10. 😂
Yellow Tail Acei as far as fish I’ve kept. They actually school together sometimes which is kinda wild considering they’re mbunas.
That last fish is beautiful. Will the Geos do well with a planted Tank.
They can - especially with Anubias.
I have a question on your 50 gal Low Boy similus tank. Are you using an Oase canister? If so, is it a 250, and would you recommend it. I'm asking because I'm considering replacing my HoB
I’m using the 350 on that tank
@@PrimeTimeAquatics for better flow or because of the population of little poopers?
Hello Jason me again 😂 so I have a 90 gallon tank would it be appropriate to keep 2 geophagus surinamensis in it? Is that big enough ? Thanks a ton!
Hey - I would want at least a 75 gallon for them. They get large.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks so 2 in the 90 is okay?
Is there a website where I could buy imbuna chilids?
Alllllmost went for an oscar in my 125 but once I saw in person how big they can get, 125 just felt still too small. Maybe one day….!
I hear you!
My personal favorites are angelfish, chocolate cichlids, port cichlids, Bolivian rams.
I forgot Festivum and Severums.
What about Firemouths?🤟🏻
My favorite Cichlid has to be Mbunas specifically Yellow Labs or the Pseudotropheus saulosi in the video but love me Apistos as far as me and my current tank which is 55G. Had Mbunas(when I was young and dumb and didn’t know better and kept them in a 20G)before and will not make the same mistake again and go even larger than my 55G when I am able to get more.
Great choices!
❤ 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Was that a Bala Shark with the Species 44?
Ya, they always ignored each other.
1,000 gallons per discus rule love it ! Why not 1,000,000 gallon per fish !
1. Severums
2. Pike Cichlids (Any)
3. Geophagus
God bless
Opinions on Severums?
Mine were very nice.
Can be aggressive but overall a great fish.
Love them! Just not good in planted tanks.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics oh yeah that makes sense
@@sewerrat7612 Had some, they're some of my favorites
How cool can the panduros be kept?
I never went below about 76 or so?
I love my firemouth cichlids
Very cool!
They have recently become "Chindongo Saulosi" .
Great list! I appreciate how you included a great mix of Africans and New World / large and small. As you said, people will have their own lists and rankings. Yours was solid and diverse.
I can't speak to the African cichlid species too much, so they will be poorly represented on my list. I really much prefer the New World types for their personalities and patterns.
10. Frontosa
9. The Red Terror (female)
8. The Slavini (female)
7. The Angel*
6. The Silver*
5. The Starry Night
4. The Electric Blue Acara
3. The Flowerhorn
2. The Jaguar
1. The Oscar*
Others that I keep but missed out on the top 10 list.
The Venezuelan Pike
The Convict
The Red Shoulder Severum
The Red Texas
Nice!
And Oscar’s over discus ??? Really?
Ya - just love their personality and they’re a lot easier to keep. 😀
Frontosa, boulangerchromis microlepsis,
Gold occelatus,
Aul lawanda,
Placido phenochilus,
Ps saulosi,
Uaru,
RPH ,
Nice!
Just suggestion
Now I'm kind bored with these types of video topics
Now people are want see aquascaping an aquarium or a making biotope for the fishes you mentioned or have experienced with.
Just try out those topics that are missing in channel
This is a controversial list you left so many options out. There are so many cichlids that deserve to be on this list you only have 2 from my top 10 and even those are on opposite ends of the scales
Oh you know what I'm going to say 😂😂😂 wheres the transcriptus love? 😂😂😂 I would totally own geos if I had a big enough tank. Very pretty fish.
It was tough leaving the ornatus out!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I bet!
