- First Impressions of BGC Uptown 🇵🇭 This is NOT the Philippines I Know
This is my first time visiting the uptown area of BGC in Manila, Philippines. BGC is known as the modern area of Manila, Philippines with all of the foreign restaurants you could want. In this video I found an American restaurant that I had to try, and I gave a condo tour of a room I found on Airbnb for roughly $70. Thank you for watching!

M. Manila has 16 business districts like Aseana, Ayala center, Circuit Makati, Rockwell, Newport city, Greenhills, Ortigas center, Greenfield district, C5 corridor, Araneta center, Triangle park, Eastwood city,Arca south, BGC, McKinley hill, and Filinvest Alabang. These are the business districts that you can visit while you're in Manila.
Thank you good to know! Cities are so big and spread out. Merry Christmas 🎄🙏🏻❤️
If you're still in BGC try the wings at Chili's, 3rd floor of One Bonifacio on 5th and High Street. Large and delicious. My treat.
You forgot the Best business district TONDO Manila. Tondo is similar to San Francisco Ca
@@amberagot8038 haha. You don't want to have any business dealings in Tondo. Arguably the most dangerous area in Manila.
Yeah you didn't know Trinoma Center, Eton Center in North EDSA and Vertis North Center 😂 Ph China Town and Rockwell Center
I'm visiting the Phillipines in February, I've really appreciated your videos and how much they have helped teach me about the country!
I'm glad to hear they've been helpful for you!
you are very much welcome here in PH
@@6thSLWhat are you even talking about?... Metro Manila has many CBDs... BGC may be the newest but it's not the only one. That whole area is also covered in lots of Luxury subdivisions/gated communities.
@@dayangmarikit6860 you missed his point. He missed the Philippines that he knows as popularly a nice beach country (and its hospitable country people). He doesn't see it at BGC. There's nothing wrong about that, is there?
Philippines is like halo-halo you can experience the modern to rural life, city to island life or crowded city or to be alone in un spoiled island beach . I enjoyed your Blog and say Hello for me to Uncle Sam
Cultural diversity at its best!
Jonathan, your reaction and disbelief that there is actually a Buffalo Wild Wings in the Philippines is genuine. Welcome to Metro Manila! Have a safe flight back to AL with your family.
🤣 I was genuinely excited hahaha
This mfer thinks the Philippines is some backwards rural area where there is no progression and foreign influence 😂, can't blame him since he's live his experience in rural Visayan area. I don't know why he's surprised that the Philippines have Denny's and Buffalo wild Wings.
Hi Jonathan! You're right when you implied that the real Philippines is not found in well-developed cities like the BGC area...but in areas outside the big cities. Same in other counties...when I travel, I try to get out of the city and roam around the areas outside the city....I think that's a more appropriate way of immersing yourself in the culture of another country.
Great mindset
I think this statement is a bit dumb. In any country you won’t find the actual “culture” in the business districts like BGC. Poverty and culture is found in more rural areas. It’s no different in America. Filipinos have toxic mentality that America is rich and poverty doesn’t exist. You can find just as poor side of town the good side of town.
Yeah that great 😊 not to late ⏰ it’s better late than never ,, visiting BGC.. yeah of course Philippines 🇵🇭 must have its dynamics ..from the beautiful 🤩 island paradise to jump and diverse to a beautiful modern skyscraper 🏙 😊
I really enjoyed watching your video! Thanks for the tour!
Jonathan, most American food, they have them in the Philippines. After all, you are in BGC. Modern and rich place in the Philippines. Glad, the Buffalo wings passed your expectation.
Enjoyed watching this video of yours. Happy holidays! Enjoy! 🎉🎉🎉😊
Hey you should pay tribute to the AMERICAN SOLDIERS CEMETERY - IT'S WALKING DISTANCE TO BGC.
So beautiful, perhaps better than Arlington
It's also the largest American cemetery outside the United States.
You got so used to saying "ayo-ayo" even if you are in BGC hahaha (kept speaking Bisaya)
😂❤😅
There's my office building, right there... ---> lol
I agree, the real Filipino experience is not in BGC..it's in the provinces. Authentic pure Filipino experience.
❤😂more speaks bisaya
It’s so entertaining to watch you surprised what Metro Manila is. I’m happy for you discovering the other side of the Philippines since you’ve been mostly in southern and central regions.
Good experience as you’ve seen both but the provinces is more of nature and relaxed life.
Boring
First time to watch your page. I haven't been to that part of BGC. I'm a subscriber now!
Baguio City?
I thought you'll be in Manila for a while. I love the fact that you still say Ayo Ayo even here in Manila. Safe travels to the US!
I would have stayed longer, but I had a bit of an urgent family matter... I'll stay longer next time!
@travelescapesOFFICIAL I hope all is well! See you soon back here, hopefully!
That's an amazing face there Jonathan, it totally says how pleasantly surprised you are with the presence of Wild Buffalo Wings here! Welcome to our literally WARM country of the Philippines! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 Salamat kaayo!! Amping!
thanks bro. thats why i like ur vlogg you really embrace the culture Pilipino.
This is a different perspective. He is one of the experts on Philippine travel. Love it! ❤❤❤
That's a nice view for the Dec.24th fireworks and the New year also...enjoy Manila a lot to vlog 😎
Love your videos man first time to comment here but always a fan! Safe travels! Merry xmas!
That's expensive dinner at BGC considering it's in the Philippines! BCG is geared for patrons with foreign currency. So when I go to the Philippines, I'll avoid BCG but opt for House of Lechon in Cebu. Thanks for your video on these two places as well as your other informative videos. Also thanks for being genial; your repartee with the local folks is enjoyable.
I’m glad my videos have been helpful! And yes, it seems BGC might be the most expensive area in the county. Thank you for watching!
Glad you took the leap to come to Manila. There is a huge difference when you are at the province.
New subscriber here and I'm already a fan. Looking forward to watching your older vids and posts in the future. More power to your channel! 🔥💯
Hi Jonathan! Dan and Myra Frye here from Albuquerque ,NM we started watching your videos in the Philippines about 2 weeks ago. We have been enjoying all of it, please don’t get tired posting them. You are always so positive and keep it that way. I’m a Filipino and Dan is Caucasian . He can’t wait to come and visit places that you’ve shown in the videos. Please always take care and God Bless You!!!
Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed your video.
Wow you really enjoy your stay here, thank you for your love of our country, stay safe ,take care and God Bless
It’s nice to enjoy both sides. I really enjoy watching your immersion with the locals in the various areas.
A Manila trip at this time of your could only have been because you're likely to fly out of the country which has been usual for vloggers and indeed you were =D A most deserved break for sure, if there ever is one, @travelescapesOFFICIAL Jonathan. True, you did not have to feature this particular area of Metro Manila as others have, but it's still great to see your impressions of it especially after having travelled to some of the most interesting areas, quite literally "around the Philippines" not all Filipinos have been to, albeit in the VIsayas area (make that: ESPECIALLY in the Visayas islands).
Anyhow, yes indeed, the "dream" most FIlipinos have is not always abroad but to work in the NCR-end up either in the rest of the big city or upscale places like the BGC, hence the many Visayas/Mindanao Pinoys you met and wiill meet. The payscale is incomparable to working overseas, of course, but Luzom is always closer to "home" than abroad ü
Happy Holiday to you and yours, Jonathan! Thank you as always for your stay and sharing a year's worth of your adventures. Peace, stay safe =)
Safe Journey!! Merry Christmas!!
Thank you ! Merry Christmas to you too!
Safe travels Jonathan. 😊
Enjoy the holidays, Jonathan! 🥳🥳
Thank you for visiting Philippines 🇵🇭 and for sharing your experience ❤
Safe travels Jonathan, hope to see more vlogs from you,,,,
Man I'll miss ranch when I visit the Philippines.
Really surprised how nice everything is there at the malls and downtown. Huge difference in customer service and work ethic and cleanliness compared to the US.
Hi. We really enjoy your style of vlogging. We spent time in BGC last October and we know exactly what you said, "this is not the Philippines I know." It's a bubble made by money. IF you have the money you can live a lifestyle of luxury and find everything you want or are use too. Expensive, even by US standards. We toured a "presale" for a condo. 1 million USD. Enjoy Christmas in Alabama.
Yup, all that contrived copycat luxury gets old after a few days of living there. It attracts those who get off flexin' to strangers or to escape from the world outside the 'bubble'.
Only now I’ve seen you in Manila. Good to see you in BGC, explore more of the cities of Metro Manila. It could be over whelming for you, but I think you can make your channel progress and for sure more subscribers. 👍
this vid truly made me happy esp the wings part, been taking that place for granted for years haha thanks for posting/sharing!
That's one of, if not the main reason why Metro Manila is the most densely populated city in the world. It's because people from the provinces, even as far away as Mindanao, flock here for "greener pastures". Though not every area in M.Manila is packed. There are areas too, particularly the rich areas like Dasmariñas that aren't too populated.
Merry Christmas btw :)
I just dont get it like when someone says this isn't just because you've seen its modernity and with so much prosperity some will say this is not the Philippines... Like for real this is the Philippines common. This is the Philippines in all of its variety. Perhaps you wanted to see beaches, farmlands and simple people in the provinces but whether you are in the big cities or any remote places man you are still in the Philippines.
Not like the Philippines because outside BGC, the roads are jampacked with tricycles, cars, trucks, etc. The sidewalks in all the provinces are so uneven, ugly sidewalks, not beautifully paved. BGC is different from all the other places of Manila where ghettos/ slums are common sites.
@@user-wo2kr1gu1c not true.. Metro Manila have several CBDs not only BGC.. and aside from CBDs there are so many developed areas.. perhaps you just hate the Philippines because you are not honest enough
@@user-wo2kr1gu1c what do you mean "outside BGC, the roads are jampacked with tricycles, cars, trucks, etc. The sidewalks in all the provinces are so uneven, ugly sidewalks, not beautifully paved" ??? Have you been to the Philippines? I travel daily inside and outside Metro Manila and only on rush hour or certain times and in SOME places do you see roads jampacked with tricycles, cars and trucks. Have you even been to any province? Majority of main roads are very good. And there is no such thing as ghettos/slums being common. Only in certain places in Manila are they located but not by all means common all over the Philippines.
@@user-wo2kr1gu1c bgc is not the only modernized city in metro manila its small compared to quezon city, makati and manila itself.
New subscriber from Vegas, I envy you being there in my motherland, I hope to be there in Feb or Mar, looks beautiful where you at, thank you for featuring that part of the Philippines, til next time take care, Happy Holidays to you and yours, wish for you peace love prosperity esp good health , more power to your channel🤔🧐🎄🎊🎉🔥✌️🙏
Nice room and awesome room tour thanks for showing us the best of that hotel
Merry Christmas Jon!
great channel ❤💪
Thank you for saying that!
I noticed your grammar, tone and how fast you talk changes depending on who you're talking to and their literacy in English. It's really nice to see. I've seen many vlogs where visitors speak so fast even though the locals clearly can't understand.
I lived in non-English speaking countries for roughly 8 years teaching English as a second language, so I think that I'm always inadvertently gauging English levels and adjusting my speaking accordingly.
@@travelescapesOFFICIAL Perfect.
Enjoy your Christmas Jonathan! 🎄
thank you! You too!
i like how you embraced the culture out of BGC.
Happy holidays to you and your family. "Will miss your vlogs around the Philippines.
Wow, you are in Manila. And you chose a very nice condo place. And next time, I will try that Buffalo wings too. And nice to see you not wearing cap on too. This video is something different. And advance Merry 🎄 Christmas.
Finally, Welcome to BGC! Like you said, I've been following you for over a year. More years to come 😍

Hi Jonathan…. Merry Christmas
Hi Eric! Merry Christmas!
Metro Manila is so diverse. It consists of 16 highly urbanized cities: the City of Manila, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela, and one municipality: Pateros. BGC is in Taguig.
Thank you for this!🙏🏻❤️
Hmmm, I love to try it there. What a contrast in the rural area. You look like a star getting people's attention. Regards from California ❤
Lovely video. Enjoy your Christmas in the USA. I hope you can come back to BGC, Ayala and other new developments in Manila and do more vlogs please? Thanks and Mabuhay!

Have you been living under a rock in the Philippines? Lol. Was there a couple months ago and I was blown away at how many American restaurant chains they have - Shake Shack, Denny's, Texas Roadhouse, etc. They even have an Olive Garden.
that's all in the major cities though... we don't have any of those on Bohol as far as I know. I don't spend much time in the cities
The Philippines still has a lot of American Influence since the country was once a territory of the U. S. and was, back in the day, until given independence by Pres. Roosevelt in 1946, called The Philippine Islands, U.S.A. For Several weeks now, Thousands of U.S. military troops, with tanks, helicopters, F22 planes, etc., have arrived in the Philippines to use the 9 military bases all around the country.
I've been in all restaurants you mention in the US ,I missed the Philippines cuisine ,
@@user-ud7fb4db2f I'm all in for the Philippines, do you think there will be a problem with so many American fast food? you know, the unhealthy aspect, thats one American import, they can do without
Olive garden is International..Croatia has it..
You need more time in Manila to explore BGC, Makati etc areas. Lots of good food (international cuisine) you can find anything. Will be nice to go to Filipino restaurants too esp Barbara’s in Old Manila area they have a cultural show in the evening while you dine. Lots of Americans are very at home in BGC esp bec of the food and the conveniences in BGC. If you are back in the Philippines early in the year, there are a lot of festivals to go to starting Sinulog in Cebu. Happy New Year Jonathan 🥳🎉🎊 Looking forward to your vlogs this year.
Nice, you must of had a little editing time to get another video out so soon.
that's all I've done the past 2 days 😅
Good Luck to your stay in the Philippines
yes, you're 💯 right! BGC does not show the real Philippines... And that's why we love your vlogs. That's exactly what sets you apart from the others. 🇵🇭 Enjoy the holidays with your family! 🌲🙏🏻
"The real Philippines" .. BGC is a (real) "part of the Philippines" ..
@@enzos711 lived here all my life and I should know. Let's just say if you're a foreign friend visiting and you'd want to get the full FILIPINO experience, will I bring you to BGC just to impress you? Certainly not. I would hate to sugarcoat. The true PH culture is too amazing to be missed --and it's not something you can find in BGC. That's a fact.
@@sonnet_29 I would state ALL cities of the world are the same! Back country and backroads we call it sometimes. Locals are interspersed throughout each one! I LOVE all beings of this planet! 🙏🏻🤔❤️
FYI that is the true face of Philippines modern & traditional ok? Philippines is on track to become 1st world country.
@@6thSLoh no. don't be sad for them. Have you experienced visiting these places you call poor and dirty /slum areas? help them if u can but you may be surprised theyre living the simplest yet happier lives than the ones living on gated subdivisions. Have pity for those who have all the material wealth but suffering from depression.
After watching many of your vlogs i just noticed how beautiful your eyes are. It smiles when you smile haha

Safe travels 🙏 ✈️ Jonathan and Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤️ 🫂 🤗
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Good idea visiting BGC at this time as Christmas fast approaching, being alone it’s more fun with events. Philippines has all the ingredients mix into one, modern metro Manila and some smaller city islands in Visayas and Mindanao, best culinary to ordinary food, then beaches from the entire island, forest and mountains in furthest area where can be reach out, there’s the lowly areas, lots of trimmings for a perfect flavorful halo-halo. Enjoy your holiday and have a Happy Holiday Season.
I miss that area. I used to walk every day in that area as I went to work. I saw BGC from a barren land with no buildings to now. I am now retired and have relocated to the province but this video made me reminisce about some good old days.
Wow! Was I shocked when I saw you in BGC ! Almost like a fish out of water experience for you I’m sure.
Thanks for visiting our country🇵🇭 enjoy eenjoy;)
Do you have any plans to visit the mountains in the north of the Philippines? Theres cool rice terraces and unique flora there, and its also one of the few areas in the Philippines that survived spanish colonization, so the culture is also much closer to the original pre colonial culture if you're curious about that. And of course theres a lot of cool mountain views.
Also this time of year is a nice time to get away from the heat by going on a trip there. Baguio city often goes to around 10 degrees during this time of year. Baguio is also just a cool city, with it being built into the mountains, and you can see the houses rolling with the curves of the mountainranges.
Agoy kamao mo bisaya na hehe Dili na mailad heheh amping
Going back home ?
Have a great Christmas w your people

Yep!! Back in the US now for Christmas! Have a great Christmas also!
You should visit the other mall SM Aura or Venice grand canal at BGC. And the Food Bazaar at night.🤩👍🇵🇭 In the Philippines if you like Luxurious life you should visit Bgc/Makati/Q.C./Alabang/ etc.. But if you like a rural native province life just visit the provinces of the Philippines.😍👌🇵🇭
By this time you've probably gone but next time ask the staff where the "butas" is, it means hole. It leads you to the barangay, not sure I think it's Guadalupe Nuevo or Pembo, the locals will know, I just saw it from other vloggers. This is where you can find street food and not at all fancy,
It will be the best place to view how the philippines calebrate the new year! Its simply uncomparable.
That’s what I’ve heard! It doesn’t look like I’ll be back in time for it unfortunately
Haha You are so surprised to see Buffalo Wild Wings…Back in 1980’s Mc Donald and Kentucky fried chicken moved in near Clark Air Base in Pampanga.. We even have Chick fillet in SM mall in Manila back then…😊 I’d say 40 years ago…I’m glad you liked Manila..It’s a huge city for sure..Anyway have a safe flight back to Alabama and have a Merry Christmas to you and your family! From the panhandle of Florida …Thanks for sharing your video! 🙏🙏 God bless!
You should have visited BONIFACIO HIGH STREET, it has a vibrant, Western-Eastern/European vibe in there!!!
Hi Jonathan have safe flight back to US .. kindly regards to your family...
Hey thank you!! I’m actually already flying back to the Philippines from the US!
For quick visit to the 'traditional' neighborhood, go to an area behind Grand Hyatt Hotel called "Butas" and you can get your street food fix!
CENTURY CITY in Poblacion Makati is abusiness center also worth mentioning
Very empressive❤❤❤
