Portuguese creoles are creole languages that have Portuguese as their substantial lexifier. The most widely-spoken creoles influenced by the Portuguese are Cape Verdean Creole, Guinea-Bissau Creole, and Papiamento.

At Malaysia we have Portuguese Malay creole called Kristang.

My native language is Brazilian Portuguese and Kristang was by far the easiest to understand even though it is the most geographically removed from my home country. Then it comes Cape Verdean creole and Papiamento. I barely could recognize words in the other ones, maybe with other samples of text I could understand more. Thanks for this compilation, Andy!

Never knew about some of the African Creoles like Angolan creole or that there was a smaller variant of Principe creole. Also the Sri Lankan one was a surprise too.

O português africano criolo é muito difícil de entender quando não se tem conhecimento de gramática, já tive muita dificuldade de conversar com moçambicanos.
I'm Brazilian and I have studied Papiamento and creole caboverdiano for so long and both are very intelligible to whom speaks Portuguese. But some of the other creoles are extremely different from the base language.

As a Portuguese of Indian origin, I can understand very well all the creoles shown here, except for the African creoles (the Cape Verdean managed to understand, it is also common to hear it here in Portugal actually)
Macanese Portuguese is really beautiful!
As a native (european) Portuguese I understand:
Capeverdean: 85% (because it's slow and I have the text, otherwise my experience is like 25% understanding)
Guine-Bissau creole: 30%
Papiamento: 80% (just because it's 'our father' text, otherwise probably just 20%)
Casamancese: 10%
Santome: 0%
Angolar: 0%
Principense: 5%
Cochin: 10%
Korlai: 35%
Sri Lanka creole: 10% (just because I have the text)
Papiá Kristang: 90%
Macanese patuá: 40%
I'm from Lisbon and although I can speak and understand cape verdean creole pretty well, this narration is indeed very very slow. Daily cape verdean creole might be a lot less intelligible for most portuguese speakers.
Good work, Andy, very interesting video! But, if I may, it would be good if you could correct some slight mistakes:
- Papiamento is not an Upper Guinea Creole; Papiamento is a separate branch on its own.
- Santomense, Angolar and Principense are not Upper Guinea Creoles; they are Gulf of Guinea Creoles.
- Please, tell that guy that, in Cape Verdean Creole, we don’t say “purki”, we say “pamódi”!!!
As someone of distant Português ancestry whose parents are from Sri Lanka, I was very happy to see Sri Lankan Português Creole featured here.

Spanish based creoles next please
There are actually other creoles in Southeast Asia, especially in Timor Leste and Indonesia, but the creole in Timor (Bidau Portuguese) for some reason died around the 1960's, when Timor was still a part of the Portuguese Colonies, probably because the Portuguese were able to standardize the Portuguese language through the increase of education after WW2 in the country
In Indonesian also had died out of usage sadly

Se não me engano, todos eles têm a pronúncia do S em fim de sílaba como /s/ sem chiado igual ao português brasileiro. Alguns têm traços arcaicos como ch=tch e uma=ūa.
S chiado no acento carioca e em alguns lugares do nordeste. Eu não tenho esse s não!
A maioria dos brasileiros não falam o s dessa forma. Apenas cariocas e alguns sotaques nordestinos.

Macanese Patois = Portuguese with Cantonese syntax and intonation.
Papiá Kristang = Portuguese with Malay syntax, intonation and some of Malay words.
Yeah lol when I heard Macanese I was thinking of a Chinese person trying to speak Portuguse but doesn't use the proper syntax etc

The Cabo Verde dialect for me sounds very Brazilian...the Carioca of Rio. The Macanese dialect easiest to understand

casamancese and bissau creole are the hardest to understand, cape verdean papiamento and kristan were very easy

in jakarta indonesia we have Batavian Creole Portuguese called mardijker creole/ kreol tugu/ Papiá Tugu. source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardijker_Creole
feels like you can hear how different accents in mainland portugal at different times affect each creole. I would guess the way they talk in macau is caused by people who spoke similarly enough to the way we talk in Rio, but maybe thats a stretch
