DoggoMania Same me
They look like oblivion characters.
i thought the fuckin same!! 😂 😂
A lot of these woman would only be considered pretty in Oblivion.
yeah most were, well. Ugly.
i swear i was watching oblivion characters XD lol
I’m certain you people live happy lives
np3 dialog?
They all look like custom abominations from TES: Oblivion. This is so weird
Just so creepy how they almost look like aliens
Wow.... Best illusion I've seen for years, possibly in my life. How on earth they figured this out is beyond me. It's incredible!!
Is this still the best illusion?
@@upc.barcodes83 tv is the best one. Too many people think it’s real.
@@joejosa8985 Think what exactly is real?
I watched it at the cross in the center the first time, then watched each side separately before watching the center again a final time, what I can say is no matter if you know what the faces actually look like, that still won't stop your brain from creating monsters when you do this correctly. Some of those faces are indeed bizarre but not compared to what you see when you stare only at the cross.
.I am terrified of the faces I saw...
I will be sure to stare at people in the face than the sides, because all I saw were ears were eyes were, ad mouths for noses... some of them didn't even have mouths and looked as if they belonged in an Amnesia monster work shop!
surly this has to happen to other people in a similar way, or I maybe crazy and in denial...
Lol same but I thought there was ganna be a pop up
I just realized that I had horrible grammatical errors.... I shouldn't write comments when I'm exhausted...
Same. I saw profile shots of people somehow, or just a blank face with hair. Creepy shit.
So... I'm kind off scary now, I shouldn't have watched this at 3 a.m.
sometimes this KINDA happenes when your playing a game during your character creation. as you quickly go through all the option you noticed that your oppinion on how they look is much more extreme than if you go through the selections a little slower.
you can get WILDLY different results if you close one eye and look at different places on the screen. I tried looking a little lefter and almost all of them lost eyes or all facial features. Some real scary stuff
This honestly gave me anxiety.
It just a troxler effect where u stair at something and your brain gets to lazy to fix the things in the background and get all distorted.
0:19 is a man on the left side
We describe a novel face distortion effect resulting from the fast-paced presentation of eye-aligned faces. When cycling through the faces on a computer screen, each face seems to become a caricature of itself and some faces appear highly deformed, even grotesque. The degree of distortion is greatest for faces that deviate from the others in the set on a particular dimension (eg if a person has a large forehead, it looks particularly large).
Upon first watching I simply wondered how this team put together such grotesque or frakensteined faces, then when re-watching only individual faces at a time I realized the faces were relatively normal. Anyone have an explanation for why our brain creates these horrific depictions?
This is a very old comment, but I'll reply anyway.
Your eyes retain the images you see for a few short moments. It's called persistence of vision, and it's how animations look as though they're fluidly moving, even though they're just a series of still images. When you're directly focusing on one point, the persistence lags a little bit more in your periphery.
In this video, your peripheral vision is overlapping the previous images with the current one. They go by just fast enough that your brain can mash together 2 or 3 different pictures. Since all of the eyes are placed at the same point, it morphs multiple faces into one, creating a "human but not human" uncanny effect- exactly like the frankensteining you were talking about. The fact that there are two sets on either side of the screen is just to encourage you not to focus on either one- but with the added bonus of getting two sets of monster faces.
@@kiasmidt7678 Nice, it actually works even when you hide one side that's cool
When I focused on the crosshair and the pics were beginning to change, while focusing the faces reminded me of the ugly faces I've seen in the game Oblivion!
They didn't turn ugly they turned SCARY
I think they're changing faster than the brain can update the information about your peripheral vision, so when It starts lagging behind it throws up random features from previous women, making some really weird stuff. Some of them had what looked like 5+ eyes!
MrStarman926
Pause the video and they still look weird... Nothing is lagging, your brain just seems to mix both faces together in a very weird manner...
THERE ARE NO FACES
THERE ARE NO FACES
this made me jump out my seat lmao
_there are no faces._
"In light of the other" is not referring to the images that are side-by-side, but rather comparing the images that flash in sequence. So you are correct that it still works if you cover half the screen. I believe they only put two images simultaneously so that you are focusing even less on the individual images, but it's not essential to the experiment.
I swear I saw a zombie..
Yep now you know who the actual Bloody Mary is. I saw aliens zombies your mom and whatnot.
That creeped me out the first time i watched it
wow hoho!
i've never had this kind of eye trick before.
really intresting, and soooo amazing!
I do think you're genious, thanks for uploading this video!!
All they are doing is taking girls with opposite feature aspects, like the one on the right has a long face and the one on the left has a short, eye angle, eyebrow angle, many things drastically different quite near each other and you are forced to view with only your peripheral vision, of course they would appear distorted.
I covered the left faces with my hand, stared at the crosshair, and the same effect happened. Apparently it isn't necessary to have two sets of faces aligned with each other for this effect. How did your research not find this?
Shut up liberal
Guy's i'm serious, I kept my eyes on the cross and one of them had no face.
is this how our brain creates new faces for the strangers in our dreams and nightmares?
its just because of peripheral vision.. peripheral doesnt focuz in on the details and just gets a general shading of the face, so u see enough details to make out a face like image, but are robbed of enough to make it look creepy.. its like that "creepy valley thing" since ur peripheral is keeping it in that realm it looks weird. not quite looking humanm but human enough
does this have to do with the blind spot?
+Taylor Lynn No.We normally judge beauty in a rather subtle way, which I won't explain in detail now, but suffice it to say that we emphatically do not refer a given face to a universal template of ideal beauty that is etched into our minds. The flashing effectively makes us do just that: judge a face's proportions relative to those of the face we just saw. Since they have used the inter-eye distance as the invariant property, this makes girls whose eyes are close together seem to have bulbous chins or forheads, or both, (and vice versa when the eyes are wide apart) and girls with large eyes can appear to have very tiny skulls. This effect is stronger for faces that appear in the field of peripheral vision, presumably because the brain allocates less computing power to this field, and hence takes short-cuts that induce the effect. (People with poor peripheral vision struggle to see the effect at all!)
+Deipatrous in other words, you have no idea
suchandsuchfilms I think I do.
Excellent optical effect
Your right and left visual peripheral fields are processed by the left and right hemispheres, respectively. This illusion may be caused by crosstalk within the corpus collosum between hemispheres trying to synthesize the two images into an averaged whole, perhaps? It would be very interesting to see if this effect obtains within commisurotomy patients.
If you watch one side directly aka not as the video tells you. Many of those women are far from pretty. Only a tiny amount are actually good looking.
0:19
There's a man on the left..
Wtf,
i know.. i'm expressing my personal opinion.
This is amazing.
That is crazy how well that works.
"pretty girls" uh huh
pretty girls.....
....disappointed
1) I will not sleep well tonight
2) The faces were altered, or at least organized to give it full optical effect.
I noticed something really bizarre about this. If you pause the video while you are staring at the cross, the faces will stay warped until you look at them directly. Try it. Weird as hell.:)
Some of the those girls were hideous. I think some of them were guys.
This is creepy but also so cool :O
They look like our (humans) concept of what an alien or non-human, unknown creature would look. They clearly weren't altered though. That is very creepy. I think that's our true form lol.
When Im drunk, I can see everybody so beautiful!
If you cross your eyes and the faces come together, you see people more attractive than real faces.
Si cruzas los ojos y haces que las caras se junten, podrás ver personas mas atractivas que las caras reales.
While looking at the center pause at any time but keep ur eyes at the center and try concentrate with ur mind at the faces left and right ...u'll see blank faces then details will start appearing.. just remember to keep eyes on center
I thought I saw a vampire with a comb over!! MIND BLOWN!!
That's really good and clever and quite freaky. Amazing!!
I see three faces and two plus signs and everything is just too confusing 😅
OHHHHHHH pulez!! I looked away and it was still changing!!!
Haha great stuff, almost like someone spiked my morning coffee with acid :P
that is really amazing. It must have something to do woth how our minds recognise faces. Really interesting.
For people who don't get it, watch the video just looking at the cross and not focusing on the faces. THEN watch it again looking at the pictures on the side only. You'll get it.
This is called troxler effect btw
when it runs and you look only in the middle, the faces distort, simplifying the colours, texture, the eyes and nose are smaller and closer and the mouths look different too, only in peripheral.
Their eyes don't have to be the same width apart. The images are simply aligned so that the eyes are always in the same position. With some minor zooming in or out and maybe moving the image up or down a little is all it would take.
Pause the video and take a closer look at different faces, everyone's eyes are not as you say, the same width apart. They're just zoomed in or out to make them match.
That is actually really intresting!
lol
THAT"S FREAKING AWESOME!
Amazing!
When I looked directly on the cross. the faces on either side that were on the corner of my eyes would create a series of ugly, grotesque faces.
Dude that was one of the creepiest things i've seen in my entire life...
That's the first impression I had as well, Nerd high five! :P
@EntrailSaunders They're talking about your peripheral vision warping the stuff you're not focusing on.
It also works when you only focus on one face
wtf, i was staring hard at the middle and it scared me when they switched.
This is MADNESS!
The illusion is based on every faces' eye's are level to each other
works by exploiting the blind spot in the human retina (where the nerve connects). Move away from the screen an replay the video and they'll all look normal
I stared the left side in the eyes the entire video and did not blink.....i think i lost a piece of my soul....
LOL! My friends and I saw this, we freaked out xD
I didn't even need to look at the cross for them to be ugly
Wow, did they try the same with men. I'm curious to see the results.
THIS IS SICK !!!!!!!
That's awesome!!
@Izaak247 If you just look at the cross, in your peripheral vision the faces look really creepy, with really big eyes, and heads, disproportionate features, etc.
Watch this under the covers at night
holy crap!!!!! awesomeeee!!!
Thanks vsauce... Its not like I was planning on sleeping tonight or anything
That was so cool. If you stare at the cross it looks like the people are very ugly. But when you stare at the people, they look normal
This is more an experiment that has to do with gullibility, so many of these faces have been altered.
@FallenDeceiver As you focus on the cross in the middle, a series of faces with different structures, proportions and tones takes up your peripheral vision, since your peripheral vision is not meant to be accurate to pick up all the changing faces, your brains creates composites of the all the faces to make some sense out of it, these composite faces made of totally different faces is distorted, misshaped and appear abnormal.
lol! Spot on! I was thinking that myself! Like, I saw a lot of greenish orcs flashing by
They looked like real life Piccaso artworks
Exactly!
I think the explanation for this is that when you stare at the cross, the faces are in the peripheral of your vision, but still close enough to the center of it that you can make out -some- details. Your brain fills in the gaps when it's focused on optical input from the center of your vision, but does so imperfectly, hence the apparent grotesques.
I wonder if this is related to specialized face-reading circuitry in the brain. Would be interesting to know if they turn ugly for face-blind people too.
Guess I shoulnt have drunk 8 beers before seen this video....I see them all beautiful!
thats so cool if you look at the faces there perfecly normal but when you keep you eyes on the cross they look ugly from the sides of your eyes
That profile pic + that comment = You are epic sir.
@dave4248 It's a combination of that, along with comparing / contrasting the previous face you just saw. The change in jolting to the brain.
On some of them you don't even need the illusion that they're grotesque looking.
Holy shit this was the best thing ever made to creep the hell out of people
Nothing changed
haha, omg, thats the first thing i thought:D
really, some of them are honestly out of oblivion!
Why did I laugh so hard at this?! :'D
at first i thought it would be a scary pop up illusion
if i pause nothing changes until i move my eyes, so not only exposure time is the cause
