what you see on Jimmyâs face is ecstasy. Yes, how can one watch the blazing smile he gives to Robert during that performance and not either get chills, or smile broadly in return...just to witness such utter happiness of a person playing at the height of their gifts.....Robert has often said that he considers the musicianship in this song as the best of rock. Jimmy was never as happy as when he shared with stage with Robert...even after Zeppelin died...when they shared the stage, there was always that smile. They played so well off of one another.

@@iREACTDiSSECT No I was asking the comment poster. I wanted a source on his claim but I believe him. Found pictures of Jimmy Page and his dad at Kenbworth. Very cool. I had no idea.
From an album basically recorded in two weeks (with Robert Plant then reduced to singing from a wheelchair after an accident), this is pretty good going. It's totally a rhythm track and the studio version has Jimmy playing multiple overdubs to create his infamous 'guitar army'. They had sort of cornered the market in 'epic rock' and it's never been done quite the same.
This festival was the big return for Zep after a few years of misfortune. They were ready to dominate the world again. Sadly, Bonzo passed away just a year after this and Led Zep was no more. He was just 32. 1980 was a tragic year. We also lost John Lennon and Bon Scott from AC/DC that year.
It sucks!

i had every LED zeppelin album as it came out of the day came outi was on the whole journey with themfrom start to finishand it seems to me 50 some years laterthat this music does not get out of date does not get oldit is as fresh as it was back in 1970and it warms my heart to see you reactbecause it verifies that i was right at the timewhen i put them at the head of the packthere are many many many many many great concerts back in those daysmy friendmy scrapbook of ticket stubs is about 3 inches thicki had an unusualinsatiable love for music back thenand still doannette started with the beatles for mewhen they came out i went nuts!!!!!!!!

1973 is their year.. watch Dazed and Confused from 1973 the full 30 minute version. Yes it's time consuming for a video but man that is one performance. Jimmy puts on an amazing guitar solo spanning the entire guitar neck. It's truly amazing to watch..

If you like Queen you should check out a band called The Sweet . It is argued there would be no queen without them . They took allot of "inspiration" from the sweet (allot of bands did ) and according to sweet.,Tie your mother down was actually theirs . They have numerous hits in the seventies and had a wide range of styles from bubblegum to prog rock . They were one of the original glam bands of the 70's .
âWhen I listen to â Love is like Oxygenâ I can hear on the bridge section where Queen got that sound from. Sweet always seemed like an odd name for a band but I read that they are actually originally called â The Sweet Shoppeâ.â
I also prefer the studio version of this, but nobody can deny the power of Zeppelin live. Even though Jimmy is fighting heroin addiction here and Plant still mourning the loss of his son, Bonzo battling alcohol addiction........they still put on one hell of a show.
It's tragic how it all ended with Bonzo..

the first LED zeppelin concert that i want to i was 17 years old it was in indianapolisin january of 1975then i saw them in 1977in the early nineties i saw page and plant 4 timesbuffalo cleveland indianapolisadd pittsburgh showsthen i saw jimmy page with the black crowes in pittsburghand they did the lemon song which was awesomei am so luck

Usually I prefer my Zeppelin live, because of the energy and charisma. In this case you REALLY need to listen to the studio version. Even if you donât reCt to it, promise me youâll listen to it. Jimmy has like 10 different guitar overdubs going on......impossible to do live. He is trying to grab parts off of all those different strands in the live version and it makes it seem that his playing is a bit sloppy to many people. It had been raining...you can see Roberts breath....the band has been performing for hours, Roberts voice was tired and heâs still mourning his dead son...his demeanor is different from years past...Iâm not saying this isnât a masterpiece, because it is a masterpiece of prog rock. The musicianship is off the charts. But please do listen to the studio version in order to get the true magnificence of what they accomplished. Robert Plant has called the musicianship of the three players on this song the best in rock. And finding the lyrics to match what had been created, one of his greatest challenges while being in Zeppelin.

i think you should always do the studio version of LED zeppelin firstremember my good friend it is the studio version of the songs that made them popularif you want to true virgin experience of what we all went through at the time you have to listen to the originalit was the original stairway to heaventhat was the to experience not some live thing became later

This concert is then at their near bottom not their prime. Jimmy is strung out on heroin, Bonham is very drunk and Robert is still mourning and is pissed their new album was delayed until after the concert.
