  • Lithium-ion batteries are truly amazing devices (note!) that store very large amounts of energy in a very small space. They are perceived as essential for the decarbonisation of our planet. However, the rapid penetration of these batteries into our society has far outstripped our understanding of their risks and hazards. The talk will explore the latter as well as the codes and standards landscape around the use of 2nd life batteries - currently a very large elephant in the global room.
The Lit & Phil Library is Newcastle’s exquisite secret library, open to all and free to explore and browse. This is one of a growing series of free online talks all of which are available here in the Lit & Phil's CZcams channel.

Just heard Prof Christiansen talk last week at a seminar for emergency services in Tasmania. As a volunteer Fire Brigade Chief, it was eye-opening to hear! Prof Christiansen delivered his talk in an engaging and very interesting manner. Since the talk I have updated our response protocol for electric vehicle crashes and fires. Hazmat and stay OUT of the vapour cloud!!

Excellent lecture thank you and as the MD Fire Risk assessor company (based in N Shields) has filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge around the subject. On the subject of education the Fire Risk Assessment sector needs educating as well. Unlike the Fire Brigades we are out day in day out looking at these issues and trying to put in controls and mitigations
