This would be a dedicated wire from the panel? Can I feed off the outlet's power to go to the switch?
How am I supposed to wire a different branded fan/light/light heater combo if I don’t know what color is for what…. Not useful at all

I just bought a new one, I put a meter and set it to continuity. When I measure across the red and its white it indicates a short. Is this normal?
We thank you for your question on model 164. We would need to ask you some additional questions to better assist you. We are not sure what white wire you are checking. There are two thermostats inside this unit, one for the motor to start and one to shut down the lights. The thermostat with the white wires turns off the light and is normally Closed and will show continuity. If the temperature threshold is reached, it opens and shows no continuity. What if you don't have a RED wire from switch? And customer service is closed. Older homes just have black, white and ground. Instructions don't cover this reality, so it should be labeled for newer homes.
Thank you for reaching out. Typically, you can have 2 blacks, but normally it's red & black. However, this unit has 3 functions so you would have to pull a wire. Please call our Product Support Team at 800-637-1453 for assistance with your inquiries. We do recommend calling a licensed electrician to hard wire our products into the home.
