    The Broan BHF110 is designed for new construction. We made some tweaks and installed it in an existing home. The fan is super quiet and puts out a lot of air.

    Wow! You went from a hole to completely installed instantly. Very helpful.

      Yes, the early days of DIY. You are correct, my bad. Basically, I pulled the wire through the housing wire hole and just pushed the entire fan housing into the ceiling rectangle hole.

    I felt so sorry for the young guy installing it.

      He was a commercial home builder in NW USA, so has a ton of skills.

    Thanks for making this video. I purchased the same unit via amazon, which has lots of great reviews. Sadly, I didn't see or completely missed any comments about new construction or installation issues. Really, who buys these things while building a house? The included instructions are terrible, especially the electrical wiring. Hence I am grateful to see your video.

      Glad I could help. We did pick out light fixtures, ceiling fans, bathroom exhaust / heater fans, etc. when buying a builder house that we could customize. However, I wasn't part of any install. My install would have been much easier if I had attic crawl space above the fan.

      @@DrBDIY Mine is very similar to yours, no crawl space. I know it'll be okay, but it's not going to be fun. Thankfully your video will make it easier than it would have been.

    Thanks for this video! We are trying to figure out how to install this in during a remodel. We thought we were going to have to return it, but I think this solution is workable. Thanks!

    Great. I need to see where the brackets are for the cover so I can take it off!!

    • @DrBDIY
      @DrBDIY  Před 3 měsíci

      Mine didn't have brackets. It was screwed on top and side. I think that may make it noisier as the screws send vibration to the rafters.

    Does this bathroom have 2 exhaust fans meaning one in the toilet room and one in the main part of the bathroom or is the toilet in the open in the bathroom with no inner toilet room and doesn't have its own door meaning that people have to close the door to the entire bathroom when the toilet is in use and the bathroom has one exhaust fan or does the toilet room not have a fan or was this at a job and you're not sure what the rest of the bathroom fans are?

    • @DrBDIY
      @DrBDIY  Před 6 měsíci

      The main bathroom has a single unit with exhaust and heating fans. The toilet has a door and has a single unit with light and exhaust fan.

    So, what did you do about running the exhaust duct?

    • @DrBDIY
      @DrBDIY  Před 9 měsíci +2

      That is the question of day. I did get a new exhaust hose and install a vent on my roof. I was on a steep roof, with equipment and a camera. Let's just say that I deleted all of the video when I finally finished. I purchased a 4 inch hole drill and it took 30 minutes for me to drill a hole in the impact resistant shingles, base layer, wood and radiant barrier. It was not fun. I followed a Bob Villa approach to installing the vent. It was much harder doing it myself. I had hot roof shingle splatter on me from the drill. Ugh. It was also difficult to lift the shingles for a vent. In the end, I finished, I would not install a roof vent the same way again. I was really humbled, but no leaks and I have ventilation. :)

    Figures the only insulation in the attic happens to be in the one little corner that exhaust fan is lol

    So, do you reach out to an HVAC guy or an electrician?

    • @DrBDIY
      @DrBDIY  Před 2 lety +1

      Studied online, talked to manufacturer twice, then got help from expert builder - needed help lifting and holding in place. This was a new construction model fan. Instead of install braces in existing ceiling I attached with screws to two sides (like previous install). Not difficult, just study wiring and be safe.

      Spoke with an electrician today and he said as long as he doesn't have to cut into the roof and I'm just replacing an existing one, you can call an electrician for it.

    What's the point of doing a do-it-yourself video.... Like wiring it
