- What's up guys! In this episode, I'm stoked to review my new mid length Rusty "Express". It's versatile and can handle the waves from knee up to well overhead. If you are on a softtop/longboard/shortboard and looking for a transition, I would highly recommend to look into this model. It's fun and easy to ride!
Rusty Express 7'4" x 21.75" x 3" Vol: 52.3L

From Rusty Surfboards: Nimble and fast are not the words you would expect to hear when describing a midlength, but it’s something we’ve come to expect. The ExpR.ess is a design by our very own Rick Hamon and is a hybrid midlength that gives you the option to ride it as a single or a twin, depending on the conditions and the approach you want to take. With this board you’re ready to paddle out in all conditions from knee high to well overhead. Mellow rocker, pulled in pin tail, and a single to double to vee all complement the versatility of this board. Surf it as a twin and it will deliver tight arcs and the speed you need to connect sections. As a single fin you can enjoy carving turns and off the bottom grunt. But ultimately, it provides every go out with a level of enjoyment that’s hard to equal with a single board. There are no restrictions to this versatile board.
Enjoy!

I held this board in my hands at the Rusty factory store in San Diego Ca. Immediately one thing that jumped out was it’s a very light board for a mid length which is great. They say you don’t choose a board it chooses you and that’s how this board felt to me just like I know I would be happy to own it, and that it would be a wave catching machine!
U should do some comparison videos for mid length !
Board looks really good. Lots of glide and turned really well
Thanks for watching, Walker!
Try as a single fin, but get 7.5" flex fin then get back on the when you cut back.👍i bet it should cutback on a dime. Mine does. You could push the single fin all the way forward in the box n it's going to be looser. bring screw driver cos you might try moving it the opposite direction for sum swell action.
You 100% can never go wrong with a Rusty surfboard.
100% Thanks for watching, Derek!

It’s fun. I was able to demo one. Rusty’s shop is across the street from my job!
That’s awesome!!!
Was looking at one of these online the other day shame really as the guy who used to shape Rusty's in the UK don't anymore nevermind ive got a custom lost 7ft7 glydra on the way soon cant wait to get it 👍
Hey Chris! I was checking out the Glydra model. It looks fun! It’s sort of a blend with the FW Seaside&Beyond. Please let me know how it goes for you when you get it! Cheers!
Man you were CRUISIN' on that thing
You should try it and compare to ThickLizzy 😜
@@SkipperSurfReview haha we have lots of boards overdue for comparison 😆
Look sick
Mid lengths work just fine as a single fin. Haven't tried a twin mid length ever - so no comment.
Have you thought about trying the Glydra from Lost ? Seems like a midlength geared towards speed on not so powerfull waves. Thanks for all your reviews.
Hey James! No, didn’t try it. It actually looks kinda fun!
i'll be in the usa next week for the first time, i'm so excited i'm landing in los angeles for a little trip to your wonderful country. I can pick it up if you want. I'm kidding of course🤣
Hahaha
Def a crowd killer for you! Bit easier switch for you too! Ascetically you look and surf better on the moonstone!
Thank you, Craig. The moonstone was small.. 6'8" and 10L less. I may downgrade t 6'7" Express.
You have so many funboards to go straight on
LOL
Yep!!!
Looked like the board for the day
for sure! Thanks for watching!
Here's what a lotta people don't know: try a mid length 19" to even a few feet longer than your height. You'll soon realize the best feel for a mid length. I shape & test ride my own board's and i found mid length board's under 7'9 just not enough board for the right feeling FWIW. TRY IT.
I totally hear you! I did feel great on 7'10" Lovelace ThickLizzy :)
@@SkipperSurfReview i dunno, i just think the added glide just makes the ride better! My current mid length is 8'2", but my 7'9" worked well with a Skip Frye 8.5" fin. That's another thing to do. Get a fin that works best for you.
Nice review, can you compare it with something similar? CI Mid or smth else?
Thanks for watching! It’s definitely a different breed since it has a different setup for fin boxes. It’s also lighter than CI Mid. Both boards are fun to ride. The express is gonna go much faster as twin. I may downgrade to 6’8” soon😁
I’m tripping on the finbox placement
I agree, it's not a 2+1 it's either Twin or Single only. Twin boxes look off though
Thanks for a great review. How was the duck diving?
Thanks for watching! There is no way to duck dive when there is a bigger wave like 3 footer… 1-2 ft is easy! If I had 6’8” I would be able to duck dive it easy. I was able to turtle roll it with no issue though!
@@SkipperSurfReviewif you get the nose under from one side at an angle then drive it with you foot it works p.s try the single flex fins works good
This board seems to be very cool. How would you compare it with takayama egg surftech ?
Thanks
Thank you Daniel. I wish I could compare but don’t have any plans on getting takayama.
Thanks for sharing your experience
But not sure about this one. Board looks too long and volumous for you, as a mid. If you want to just glide and cruise, you would have more fun on a 10ft.
It's hard to tell, though, on such lifeless waves.
Would be good to hear your experiences on that board in waves shoulder to head high (+) and of more consequence
That oversized mid with keel fins worked for you on this video because the waves were really small. But I wonder if you do better with that board 6-10 inches shorter (a little less glide) and some upright fins
Oh yeah dude, if I had 6’7” it would be more agile and nimble! I may downgrade to a smaller one after I pass the cycle hahaha. So far, it helps me to get more reps in to improve my switch stance. That’s lately the goal to improve to the point to surf more comfortably and translate it to a shortboard eventually to attempt cutbacks! Today I’ve tried it with Aipa Twin fin set and it was way more responsive. I would love to have a 10 ft log but don’t have space to store it and it’s a pain in the butt to get to the beach! At least on a 7’4” I can attempt to do some quick turns vs 10 ft log.. which is meant for cross stepping.
How does it compare to the ci tri plane ?
It's hard to say because the volume and length is so different. What I know for sure is that TPH would have more lift which sometimes can be too much when the waves have more size. It's very personal though. Th Express is definitely faster than TPH since it has a twin fin option which works great. I may downgrade later to 6'7" Express but not anytime soon! I work more on my switch stance these days and I would love to get more reps at this point! Hope this helps.
Any interest in doing the pyzel white Tiger?
Hey Joe! May be.. I’m trying to unload a few boards so I can get funds to purchase something else.
@@SkipperSurfReview where do you unload them? I don’t have social media but I ride your dims
@@josephc6648 Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. You can email to skippersurfreview@gmail.com and I’ll send you the listings.
Looks like a Sunday copy. How does it compare to it?
The Sunday is a updated version of the Creeper. One of the first boards he released under FW.
The Sunday is wider, thicker, rounder, and not nearly as progressively foiled.
hello from France ! good video again, please could you sent me this board 🤩😁
yes, what's your address?
For a board like this they need good waves not mush like Rock-a-way
You're a regular + goofy?? 💥🤙
Regular and goofy (surfing switch). I’m trying to improve my switch lately.
@@SkipperSurfReview that is awesome 👍
Still thinking goofy is your natural stance. You should try going goofy foot for a while and compare it to your regular. Can you surf backside goofy?
The same guy dropped in on you twice?!? smh. You’re too nice lol
I have a lot of tolerance for crowds haha
