I=In this video we continue our journey with the God of war series into Ragnarok.. This was a non stop thrill ride as we discover an older yet wiser Kratos. Aside from the visuals my wife and I were completely blown away story telling and voice acting of each character. Santa monica studios truly created a masterpiece with this game. Leave your thoughts in the comment section and let us know what you think about the God of War franchise. - Hry
42:34 remember how in god of war 2018 the world serpent told mimir "the boy looks familiar to him" ?
That Snake is Jormungandr. In mythology Loki has 3 monstrous children with a Giant named Angroboda. One of those children is called Jormungandr, the World Serpent. This was his birth. The God of war series made its own twist on the scenario.
The reason the grandma says her son was a fool for marrying Angrboda's mom is because her mom had the power of prophecies and the dad along with the rest of the giants fell victim to the fear of the prophecies and transfered their souls into the marbles. Basically her grandma blames her sons wife for having visions that persuaded everyone else to sacrifice themselves. The grandma disagreed and ended up going insane due to isolation. Angrboda is a constant reminder of the love she has for her son but also they hate for a daughter in law taking her family and people away from her
Can you explain in simple English...I don't speak English much..😢
@@stangero9242depending on where this episode leaves off, I will, but I don't wanna spoil it
@@ThatStevenLouisnoo...like what did angraboda mother do to grandma
Angrboda's Mother would see the future and she warned the giants that they would die or be killed and transfer their souls into the marbles to keep living even at this cost.@@stangero9242
@stangero9242 okay, I can answer that, or rather, Angrboda does in this clip actually (which is what I wanted to make sure I didn't spoil); the mom didn't ✌🏾do✌🏾 anything to grandma, Gryla's just snapped due to everything's that's happened over the course of the centuries.
All of the Giants have premonitions, but the fact that they're all following Angrboda's mom's, tells us she was the "best/most accurate" while she was alive. Since Angrboda has an important role in the prophecies, that's the most obvious reason why her family didn't use the marbles...they were going to prep her for her role. BUT the mother died birthing Angrboda (Gryla confirmed this with "I should've thrown you to the wolves when I pulled you out your mother"). She calls the mom a fool (marrying that fool) because mom's visions showed them all everything EXCEPT how and when she dies, which is integral AF when you're the best precog and your daughter's gonna help Loki save the world during Ragnarok only to die giving birth and no help developing the daughter's powers....
The father (Gryla's son) gives the options that the remaining Giants can either stay in Jotunheim and wait for Odin to eventually find a way inside and kill them all off, or use the marbles which no one knows what they are and hide until Angrboda meets Loki and gives them to him. They use the marbles but he is killed by (as Angrboda tells Atreus when she reveals Gryla is her grandma) "not doing anything to avert his fate", meaning not only did he not use a marble because of Angrboda's role, but he didn't remain in Jotunheim after the Giants sealed the gateway either, so it's possible he was one of the Giants slaughtered in Midgard by Thor. Angrboda said when he father was killed, THEN Gryla changed; she tells Atreus she grows up alone in the Ironwood forest, but sometimes Gryla would drop her off a loaf of bread while she was asleep.
So Angrboda's mom didn't do anything to Gryla, Gryla just snapped from the gravity of everything collapsing on her so fast the way it did. Keep in mind that Angrboda didn't know Atreus made it into Jotunheim and scattered his mother's ashes because the Giants destroyed the one way in and hid it prior to the last game, and Ironwood which is in Jotunheim is protected with magic from within Jotunheim.....so Ironwood is practically a hypermax prison with no way in/out for Gryla, on top of everything else 👌🏾
the knife atreus has is the knife kratos made for him when he was born. his mothers knife was used to save kratos in tyr's vault in the 2018 game.
also if you think back towards the beginning of the ragnarok game, kratos may have seen atreus cast a spell. thats all I'll say about that
@@Vengeful_bloomer at 41:25, T mentions it
@37theEnigma ya I realized I should of waited to watch the whole episode before I mentioned it. I sent the message roughly 20 min into it
@wardy-lt8ix I figured that because I also leave comments as I'm watching. Just thought I'd mention it for folks who may have missed it since he only commented on it real quick.
Gryla is basically using drugs to get away from her loss. She is just stuck in the negatives of grief.
In order to deal with her depression, Gram Gram decides to get lit off souls. Breaking her cauldron was akin to crushing a crack heads pipe. I'm gonna need some serious therapy after this.
And that is why Jormungandr said he knew Atreus..
In Norse mythology, the world serpent (I can't spell it's name off the top) is the offspring of Loki and Aggroboda. That's who that snake now is
Jormungandr 😉
bruh why would you comment this spoiler
@@FranciscoGonzalez-jo5qb it's never revealed in the game, you just have to know your mythology
@@APEX-D1705No, the game eventually reveals it cause Atreus comments that the Snake got really big quickly........
There's certain pieces you have to put together to figure it out but OP's comment is kind of a spoiler. The first clue is that in the God of War 2018 it's said that Jormangandr is a Giant from Jotunheim even though he's obviously a snake not a giant giant so that's strange, then when speaking to Jormangandr for the first time in GoW 2018 Mimir tells Atreus and Kratos that Jormangandr thought Atreus looked familiar and finally when Atreus and Sindri went to find him before going to see Freya, after telling Atreus about Ironwood if you listen closely as Jormangandr is leaving he says (in english) *"You were there"* meaning he saw atreus in Ironwood.
In Icelandic folklore, Grýla is a giantess with an appetite for the flesh of mischievous children, whom she cooks in a large pot.
The worst part was she would knock on people's homes and asked if there were naughty children she could take. It'd the parents that decide if they give them up. If the parents refused then she left to the next house to repeat that.
@@bizzaroblake2519 the child parents give away willingly must be a devil incarnate!

Ah, the birth of our big boi Jörmungandr.
The story Atreus gives in the first game was that Jörmungandr had an epic battle with Thor in which Thor hit him so hard it sent him back in time then he grew into the world serpent circling all of Midgard.
Well, you spoiled that one.

Great episode patiently wating for the next one to drop😌
It's kinda cool that aureus(Loki) and angraboda are the parents of hel, fenrir and the giant snake(can't remember name rn) in the mythology. So they put a lil twist to it and had them put the soul in the snake together..... in the first game they talked about how the snake just appeared one day and nobody knows how.
Jormangander is it’s name
I don't know how to properly spell the snake's name, but I can spell it phonetically:

Remember when Jörmungandr said Atreus seems familiar 🐍😏
That snake Loki and Angraboda saved was Jormangandur
You guys should react to Asura's Wrath, y'all are going to enjoy it
It's similar to God of War,but it incorporates Chinese, Japanese and Hindu mythology
Yup. It had a decent story and the soundtracks were epic

You both are doing great
That snake was the Jormungand
She really left a whole race to ATREUS of all people 😂
how messed up it sounds thats one of my favorite lines from the grandma youll just be a forgotten chapter in his story because in Norse mythology she's literally just his sidepiece and she really doesn't matter to loki and in this game she matters
That glitch had me dying
Oh man this is gonna be good
Imagine being a whole person then waking up as a snake.
Atreus definitely has Zeus ego
Its crazy how on point you guys get with certain predictions after yall think it through, i won't say anything specific for spoilers sake, but some of the plot points in this game are gonna drive you wild.
I will correct one thing tho, the knife atreus has isn't his mothers, that knife was destroyed when he rescued Kratos from that trap in Tyrs vault in the previous game, Kratos then gave him one of his own knives, though it doesn't have anything to do with his mother, or Hades for that matter since none of his greek powers carried over
Loki goes by many names god of mischief, the shape shifter and deceiver of the gods
Its interesting how the events in Greece that lead Kratos to Norway are all inevitable. His entire life lead to him fathering Loki and starting Ragnarok with his killing of Baldur. Everything he went through in the first trilogy in Greece was preparing him for the Norse pantheon. Without Kratos fathering Loki, Loki can't create the world serpent that fights Thor and gets sent back in time during their battle at Ragnarok. The World Serpent cant help them in the GoW 2018 game and add its venom to the axe. Its a time loop that cant be broken which implies that Kratos and Loki are fundimental aspects of reality that have to happen.
My favorite character in this game has to be Kratos
the game was too loud and y'all were too quiet, just giving a heads up, always fun watching y'all react :)
You sure Kratos really changed his fate in the original games? They prophecized a marked warrior destroying Mount Olympus and all the gods. Seems like Kratos didn’t escape fate at all.
The snake that Atreus and Angrboda give soul in,it was grow bigger and bigger.I guess, you two can guess what it is.
(its not a spoiler though 😉)
29:41 l died 😂😂😂
So basically the grandma is kind of a junkie
Snake with a giants soul. I wonder who might that be.
I'm shocked y'all didn't Pick up on him Time looping Jormungandr
A lot of people didn't, it really isn't that obvious right away. It does get more clear later on though, when Angrboda mentioned that the snake was getting bigger.
“He could’ve easily killed you atreas”
Girl Odin ain’t stupid this shit would’ve turned into god of war 3
Eh he is because he still eggs on kratos. He also will use atreus for as long as possible then kill him. Odin is stupid buy has backups for several things. Except kratos.
Love the reaction but the games audio was louder than yours in this one
That snake has a long way to go
42:54 the origin of The World Serpent
The reason why the knife has a soul is related to the beginning part of the game, when Atreus said to the wolf that he was "fast and strong", you'll see there's 4 spark drift out the wolf body, 1 of them enters Atreus's knife. Mimir said before, every soul has 4 parts but kratos just sees 3 of them fly away and if you pay attention a lil bit, you'll see what I said before, one of 4 part of Fenrir's soul entered his knife
Hróðr is Týrs mother now that's an interesting story
The knife is the second knife kratos said he forged 2 with metals from his homeland and atreus Mom homeland.
Y'all said Kratos changed his fate by killing the sisters of fate but he was always supposed to end up killing Zues. The only way to do that was to kill the sisters. That was the entire reason they kidnapped Deimos when they were children. To try and keep "the marked mortal" from killing Zues. Kratos entire life has been nothing but fulfilling prophecies.
Remember when fenrir died and Kratos asked what spell did he cast she he died? And then angorbota said that there was a soul in his knife? And she tells him that giants can put souls into objects like those marbles… or a knife? Do with that info as you will
Look's like you 2 missed the snake. You didn't get it.
"OH, TOOTLES!"
Maybe it's the death of the father.......I just said that lmao
angrabodas mother was groa which means odin killed her mother and father

The snake in this episode IS THE WORLD SERPENT
Well it will be in the future
But this is all i can tell without spoiling
The one we see in now in midgard is the jormungandr of the future
How he got to the past will be answered at the end of the game
thing is you gotta understand, atreus has two realities he is faced with, in his time in the ironwood, he gets a taste of what it feels like to be loki champion of the jotnarr , otherwise he is atreus son of kratos, he would rather be loki like anyone would , because kratos is distant and cold brutal, a psychopathic murderer of the innocent, someone who would kill their own family, lets just say atreus feels better as loki, this is reality of kratos, but as the audience we get to see beneath the surface of an evil man and why he is the way he is. and come to find that you all love kratos. not surprised . i learn more and more about people and society, reality, the way we perceive and think, everyday. if you didnt see what happened, but all you knew was that kratos existed, you wouldnt believe his stories and youd be scared of him for good reason and think hes just a psychopathic delusional maniac, but what if the reality youve seen kratos go through, is real to someone hallucinating and delusional,
Did i miss ep 8 or is this one misnumbered?
Oh. It is misnumbered. You didn't miss anything if you saw ep. 7
It's the same knife and the knife was frm his mother not Kratos and that's impossible cause Kratos gave his power back to humanity... Y'all should watch ye previously God of war stories it'll help y'all know the back ground
I never like the agressive tone from Angrboda, theres no reason to talk to Atreus like that.

the soul is fenrir's. at the start, four pieces of his soul leave his body when atreus does that "sofna" thing, but one goes into his knife while the other three keep flying. many ppl miss that, don't worry.

I won't lie, I always found this part of the game the most boring part. It's interesting for a first time go and I know it's important to the story but I always found this part of the game a snooze fest. Thankfully it wasn't a big part of the story so it doesn't last for very long. I just deleted a bunch of stuff because I think I might've spoiled some things and I've not seen if you've gotten to the end yet. On we move.
I personally liked this part, but yeah, it went on much longer than it should've. It would've been better if they cut this part of the game in half, or at least 1/3.
