  • Do you or someone you love struggle with addiction, PTSD, ASD, ADHD, HSP, and/or other conditions that make it stressful just to get through everyday life? There are many reasons why some of us feel perpetually anxious. In this second lecture in a series on Emunah & Anxiety, Rabbi Shais Taub addresses some of the underlying conditions that can place an extra burden on our allostatic load. He uses the expression "spiritual canaries" to describe people for whom life itself can be incredibly stressful.

    Rabbi....I have sat day after day night after night in the dark not wanting to live because I don't know how to live life. I've felt like my body I is an obstacle that keeps me from connecting to Hashem. I have been different all my life and no one I know is like me. I have followed you for awhile now and when I heard this I cried I had no idea I'm beyond words as to now I understand thsnk you thank you thank you! I can't wait for the next podcast

      I can’t express how much your comment means. I wasn’t even sure I should post this video because I didn’t have time to get into the solution. In the end I decided that if one person feels validated by the description of the problem then the video has value just because this one person may feel a little bit less alone.     Welcome to the real world! We are surrounded by these challenges with ourself or with those around us. So beautifully explained how we
    need Hashem because He agrees with us that it is not nice here. Having people who are living in fantasy and not reality and not giving
    an ear to the pain of living this life is hell. Thanks for explaining the reality and how loving God and leaning on Him to see us through is
    to look forward to being with Him forever.

    Rabbi. This talk brought a tear to my eye, spoke to my soul, and lessened a heavy load. I never saw my hypersensitive nature as anything more than a burden on me and everyone around me...until you said it could have a purpose. (edited for typo)

    I really thank you Rabbi,
    I grew up in a chabbad home (still observant and I listen to many classes), honnestly never heard any rabbis/teachers talk about sensitive people the way you did, and how awkward and tough it can be to just experience embodyment. So your talk in this video was so validating, conforting and inspiring!

    I’m an artist and when I go hiking with friends they often complain I take solong. Example: once my friend was telling of us hiking and he said every time he would look back on me I would be looking at everything ha ha. Like the woods are so packed with wildflowers. Not to mention all the other creatures that get passed by.
    I noice the fascination of trees all balancing themselves on hills and every imaginable situation. Trying to understand I’m simply in awe and try to portray in my art 🖼️.

    I think this has to do with the conditions that society puts on a body. In other words I mean how we define what a body should be. For instance the color blue being for boys and the color pink being for girls. We start babies off by conditioning them. To me, it is no wonder why people are having anxiety. It's because we're starting to become aware of the conditions and biases that we have to deal with in a society and the imprisonment of it all. I also believe that fear is what makes there were no fear and we would have real emotional freedom and autonomy.

      Thank you, Rabbi. I used the previous link above and watched it earlier today. I thought the Suffering Museum idea especially helpful in avoiding stumbling into the museum. Sometimes, it’s such habit that it is honestly accidental. Also, being present. It’s so basic, but the way you framed it in escapism showed the seriousness of it. It is how being on the phone constantly isn’t even frowned upon anymore. Yet, it’s incredibly destructive to everything around us. If more people were present, it would certainly be a better place.

    We are talking about healing our animal soul. EMDR does wonders for trauma when done right with a well-trained therapist.
    It helps one process the trauma. The memories that cause physiological symptoms get re-processed and stored in the hippocampus. The results are often seen within a week. The memories will still be there but won't trigger physiological symptoms.

      Isn't our soul inside our animal/human body ? How many souls do you think are in a body?
      EMDR connects the body or what's stuck in the body with memory (belongs in the soul) through the brain (where the vision centre is located) and works miracles.
