Speech therapy for 3 years olds should be all about exploring toys whilst doing some structured tasks at the table - generally, this is when children start to sit at the table. A good rule of thumb is 50% on the table, and 50% off the table playing.
Toys that you can use for developing play skills:
    Cookset
    Doctor’s kit
    Carparks
    Dollhouse
    Vending machine
    Zingo
    Smatch
Not limited to the above, you can use any toy that has some sort of sequence to it. For example for the washing machine kit, you have to wash, hang, and then iron. And also anything that requires pretending, such as a doctor’s kit where children take on different roles.
What language level is your child at?
Is he non-verbal? Teach imitation, PECS, and gestures to help him communicate better
Is she at the 1-word level?
Target more verbs and link into VO
Teach more subjects and target SV and then SVO
Target specific sentence structures e.g. “someone is verb-ing something” - “Mommy is eating an apple”
Instead of “what, target questions like: “who”, “where”, “what function”, “what doing”. Ask situational questions, like “who’s wearing the blue shirt” so that he actually has to think!
Longer sentences - recast what they say into longer sentences. Whenever she says a sentence, say it once more but in a different way, longer or in the correct grammatical structure.
Having speech problems? Check out this link for the sounds that he should be able to say: www.asha.org/public/speech/de...
In general, find a qualified speech therapist to know the reason why your child can’t pronounce certain sounds. Because the way of treating these sounds depends on knowing the reason.
Whilst waiting for speech therapy to be available you build phonological awareness with the following:
    Read books that rhyme
    Clap at each syllable
    Sing more songs together

Very helpful video . My son is 3 he receives OT & Speech therapy outside of school and in his prek3/headstart school/ early educational school he’s in a special education class with children with extra needs my son got evaluated from the school district and they basically rated him to be Autistic ( not a diagnosis) but just so they know where he stands and which class will be good for him.
He receives speech therapy once a week for 30 min in school & 45 min for both OT and speech outside of school. He understands more now and has been trying to pronounce words that start with the B like ( ball, bee, buzz,) some A,D,M,P . Doesn’t say the complete word just does like the Bhuhh sound which is great . He does hand gestures know some sign language just the basic like , please, help, potty, more, all done, mom, dad, food, open, paint.. a few other la but sometimes forgets certain ones .
It can be difficult at times but trying our best to get him the help he needs.
I notice him making more sounds now as before he wouldn’t really he would just be quiet the whole time . Thank you for your video it really does help 😊

Your videos are great. Thank you for your tips! my 3 and half-year-old is speaking in sentences (3-5 words), and his expressive language has improved a lot. However, He needs to get better with pronunciation of some letters, he is especially having a hard time with the F and K sound, Any tips or ideas? He has been receiving speech therapy for almost a year, but I started seeing the best progress when I decided to enroll him for preschool a month ago. Social interaction is a great incentive. My boy has come a long way the last year... he can say at least 300 words. When He started speech therapy when he was 2.5 years, he was saying only about 50 words. I would recommend every mom to spend as much time as possible doing language development activities at home, as reading stories for them, pretend play... and please NO TV OR SCREEN TIME! my son used to spend hours a day watching "educational videos" but I am certain that his speech delay was due to his exposure to screens. Today, we limit screen time to only 45-60min maximum a day, and my 17month old boy is not allowed to watch more than 30min/day.

I spoke with my daughters speech therapist today because she let me know that starting January payments would be out of pocket. I am a stay at home mom and cannot afford 250 a month. She was very insistent that I pay out of pocket and that progress would cease of I did not continue. I asked for twice a month. They said no. I cannot afford more than that. I am working like crazy to get her around children and even taking her to the library and my sons school for playtime. I feel I am doing so much work and it has really helped but they insist she will fall behind if I don’t continue with them but I am uncomfortable with the pushy attitude. Can these methods be used for autistic kids at 3?

  • @realnurse2696
    @realnurse2696 Před 2 lety +4

My son turned 3 in March. He “talks” all the time, but we can’t understand most of it. We have picked out about 45 words he uses daily, and about 30 more not as frequently used, along with about 19 two-three word phrases. We have had two separate failed speech evaluations so far with two different locations. He walked in the rooms, saw all the toys, and that was it. He lost his focus and just wanted to play. He would not sit and the table and do their flip charts or answer questions. The therapists didn’t even try to work with him through play, they just wanted their paperwork done. They asked us a million questions while he was completely upset. It was awful. I’m trying to work with him on my own at home. We are getting his hearing tested this month to rule that out. His pediatrician says there are zero autism red flags, that he just needs speech therapy. But I can’t seem to find one that doesn’t want to fit him inside their box. He will not walk in a room full of new toys he’s never seen before and sit at a table with flip charts. He’s a toddler, he wants to play. Am I crazy for thinking that is completely normal?? I’m beyond frustrated.

    • @AgentsofSpeech

He is improving daily with his new glasses. We are still struggling with sounds, but we are now seeing an occupational therapist as well.

Why I am telling all this to you is because when I was going through all this no one was there to make me understand what's happening with my child i was totally stressed also mentally drained from morning to evening i only used to think about it but slowly and gradually i started noticing change in my son's communication earlier he don't even know how to communicate with basic daily need based words after he became 2.11 he started telling i want this i want that this is hot my food is spicy give me water then I realised if he has reached this far he can do whatever he wants to i was the who has underrated her child so much now he is 3.6 and has started going to school I started sending his school from 3 yrs only now six months have already been passed he's doing well in the school though he do not communicate with kids in his class that much also not even share things what happened at school but when I ask him what you did at school today he gives me a three words and three sentences reply tiffin khaya tha swings liya tha study kiya tha and that's enough for me as a mother to know about his school activities jada nhi puchna chahti mai i don't want him to get confused his teacher says he do not talk to others but when he need to go for washroom or he wants to drink water he tells her that thing so I am still in that stage where i am hoping to get his communication better but today I do not behave like that panicked mother at all i am cherishing his childhood in every possible way coz these days will never come. Things i did and even doing today for improving his communication and language skills I use to take him park every evening i try to mingle his up with kids in the neighbourhood i took him to kitchen while cooking every activity i do on daily basis i involve him in it that's what I am doing with him I hope you will also be sharing a positive feedback after one year on this comment box only stay positive stay strong n my best wishes are with you 😊👍🏻
