08:00 actually explains the sustainiac, but much of it is misleading. You absolutely can leave it on as it will only sustain a plucked, hammer-on, pull-off notes. You can palm/fret mute to stop the feedback any time. Leaving the stings untouched on my Ibanez with sustainiac, the strings don’t spontaneously start vibrating or making any feedback sounds.

It's sort of like having a low powered ebow built into the guitar. Very cool, I never knew they vibrated the strings. I just assumed it was digitally continuing to sustain amd always wondered why the sounds drifted off to a more harmonic tone. Now I know why! Thank you Dylan.

I have that pickup in my jackson. It allow me to have singing sustain without needing much amp gain. Hence more articulate and dynamic single notes. Sustainer pickup plus volume pedal is such a fun combination.

I seen they make a single coil version of a sustainer pickup for SSS guitars. How would that version work? What happens if you select the neck pickup only nothing? Or does it default back to the bridge pickup or something?

Thank you for helping me see why wiring a guitar to sumultaneously run separate Sustainiac and non-Sustainiac channels is not a viable option. You at least saved me a lot of time figuring this out in advance if not saved me effort and expense of futilely attempting to actually do it.

This is by far the best video i've seen on CZcams someone explaining how sutainiac work. Thank you.
But I dont get one thing. If the pickup selector is in the middle position, like your demo when you are showing no amp, acoustic sustain, why wouldn't i hear the single coil neck pickup. Or if it is on the neck position, I should only be hearing the neck single coil pickup. the shiny 2 magnet opposite facing each other is the sustainer, not really a pickup. But the black single coil under that, is a single coil pickup, isn't it? What am i not getting?

Hey DYLAN . . . this is off topic . . . but could you PLEASE explain the wiring in the Kramer Baretta Special.
Specifically that capacitor that's on the single volume knob.
Is it acting in a way that a cranked tone knob would in that eats eating some of the treble to smooth things out?
Or is it a plain treble bleed?
    What's going on in there?
There's some videos out there with some "OPINIONS" . . . we need YOUR expertise please sir!
    👍
    Thanks!!

  • @continentalaquatics2725

The best example where I can think of this being used in a song is U2’s “With or Without You.” It’s on very early in the song and only sustains a couple of notes throughout, so I don’t know how practical it is to use. The Edge used a proprietary version called “Infinite Guitar” patented by Michael Brooks. I don’t know how Sustainiac compares.

Does the frequency matter? Like does the tuning and string gauge have a limit in getting the string to sustain? If so, is this defined by the inbuilt amplifier?
Would something like this work on a bass, or very low tuned bass with very thick strings, or on a spring etc?

I know that guitar! It's my only guitar I presently own with a floyd on it (I've had others in the past) so of course I am having lots of fun with it. I find it is easy to ignore the sustainer. YOu need to make a effort to practice with it to see what kind of tone options you can get from it.

Can you do a tone demo where you review how the sustainiac sounds as *a pickup*? I was looking into getting a sustainiac but I still wanted to have a decent neck pickup. I read through installation manual and it seems that it can simulate a single coil and humbucker. I've looked through CZcams and I can find a tonne of sustainiac sustain demos like you've done, but no tone demos.

I have a sustainac. It does not have any fun tones by it self when it in the off position. It’s usable, but not at all going to get you any classic strat neck position vibes. It’s rather stale sounding honestly.

Hi...I'm 30 seconds in and would like to say thanks in advance for covering this...I'm considering getting a Schecter C-1 FR S SLS Elite, and modifying it by putting a Graph Tech Floyd Rose Piezo Ghost bridge in it along with a Graph Tech Hexpander w 13 pin output jack so I can use it as a controller to feed into a BOSS SY 1000, which has Virtual Guitar models in it, like Strats, Les Pauls, Ricks, P90 modeling, etc...I'm pretty sure it will achieve sustain, but not sure if it will do the selector stuff like the different octives...anyway, I'm pretty sure this video will either lead me to conclude it will or it won't...thanks for posting this video!

for the last 2 months I've been ordering from Sweetwater and having your own sales rep is great they know what music you like so that helps them help you, great 👍
I early July I couldn't get the Gibson from Sweetwater at the time so found 1 at guitar center after speaking to a sales person and holding the guitar great so I called back the next day and spoke with a different guy 1st he was rude 2nd i asked to send pictures that were never sent and so I canceled the $3,000 order and went to Gibson garage and the were great and a week later I had my first Gibson so guitar center won't get any of my business if I can avoid them I'll wait the week and deal with Sweetwater.the candy is a nice touch.

So how about with Guitar and Bass Pickup.
Are there any pickup maker would make innovative invention for mass using, out of Magnet and Coil?

  • @waranghira

Shouldn't the sustainer be on the middle side so the neck pup will still be on the neckest position?

    • @VladThanatos
      @VladThanatos Před 2 lety

There's need to be a distance between the sustainiac and the "next" pickup. It always needs to be in the neck position. If the guitar has only 22 frets (so the neck pickup is even further away) is probably even better.

    • @waranghira
      @waranghira Před 2 lety

@@VladThanatos so sustaniac can't switch with the neck (flip the humbucker) which is just an inch of a difference because that will be already be too close to the bridge?
Hmmm..... maybe an ebow is a better option.

  • @huemorris6099

10:28 The thing you're pointing out to be a single coil neck pup, is in fact a piece of plastic shaped like a single coil pup. In reality, there is nothing there at all. Go ahead... Pop it out of there, and see.
Edit: Not being cheeky, I thought the same thing as well, until mine fell out of my Apocalypse in the middle of a session. "Surprise!" lol

What it does was nicely explained but I do not see the point. It is unlikely that someone is going to want the same notes playing for minutes. It is more likely that notes will want to be heard for a couple of seconds or less. The right traditional guitar and traditional pickup combination can do this.
    Basically, why does it exist?
