Nice work, i appreciate the information and instructions. Just wanted to add, I watched one of these instructional videos where the guy just poured the substrate and the grain into the trash bag, closed it with a little extra air in it, and spun and spun it, to mix it all up.
Then, he just placed the bag in the monotub, opened it up and used glove hands to push the mix into the corners, even it out level, and then cut the extra liner off. Seemed simple and easy, and much faster, than all this taping, etc.
I've been going through all of your videos and I just cant get enough of the information that you are providing, in GREAT detail I must add! Thanks for the time, effort, and information that you have put into all the content you've made.
Lay the bag out on a table and flip the bin upside down and cut 3-4inches around the rim. The bag will be the perfect length inside so you don't have to try and cut it after it's already inside and filled up. Makes the liner way easier to deal with.
such a good video! thanks for the well detailed explanation!
Great techniques for keeping things simple and easier to deal with, while coaching for sweet success! On my second run and going all in, using your techniques with my varients - see ya up in AK sometime soon mycelium brother!
Very helpful, thank you for taking the time to do this
Thanks a lot. Much appreciated. Very useful tips and sharing of your actual practical experience. Please can you tell me the dimensions of
1) The liner bags
2) The fruiting chamber
This guy got explains things so well
Awesome videos dude. Very methodical 👍
Thanks for the suggestion of liner bag type. That’s a good idea man!
Love your videos. Much appreciated 🙏🤙
Your channel is a good send! Thank you
Ain’t even gotta watch it to like it cuz I know it’s an awesome video already 😂
ahh gee thanks!
Anything involving mushrooms is amazing
The thick bags are fine if you know how to make a proper liner. Flip your tub upside-down sanitize the outside of it with alcohol put your bag on top of it and wrap it like a present tape the corners then you can cut it close to size and you can install it in seconds and it will shrink with your substrate
This what I did and it works wonders. The liner is clean, nice corners and works well.
No way, thanks for this info
Stellar method, can't wait to try it out!
like in the little skit of Terence mckennii. The man talked like a creaky door But held so much informationAnd had a calm way to get it out to the people 🍻🍄
Good video, I'd like to know what proportions and quantity you used
Awesome! 3 thumbs up!
Tanks Mycomaster!! From Patagonia
Yo this is an awesome video. Got 12 bags of uncle Bens colonizing and all showing signs of healthy mycelium growth on only day 5 as I type this. Just innoculated another 6 1/2 pint jars on top the uncle Bens yesterday. First time doing all this. Super stoked.
Putting in work!!!
@@MycoTrophic how do you mist and fan when fruiting in these boxes?
@@meza321 i have a video on that

What are your spacing dimensions on your air holes? How high up and how far apart?
Great content ~ aho
Thanks for answering the "WHYS"...other skip way to quick, I'm still new at this
@mycotrophic were do u put the tub after you apply the Spawn to the bulk substrate? Dark room 74° for 10days?
Love how you keep everything simple with great explanation!
Great vid as usual. any recomendations on a flowhood? There are so many out there.
thanks! i went with an enviro mac 10 fan filter unit. go to their website and look for local distributors.
Does the liner need to be sprayed with alcohol?
Great content ! What size tub you running here? Namaste, brother.
♥️
So do you put the finished tub in a dark area or is it fine to daylight
whats the substrate to grain weight ratio ?
U don't spray the side for colonizing? Or for fruiting
Do you really really need the casings layer? How do you do Hoodie tek in a grow bag?
Thanks so basically most medecinal species like the casing am I correct
Gonna put my first tiny cake (150ml Rye) in an unmodified tub on some damp perlite. Am I good with keeping it closed until pinning and then misting/FAE 2-3 times a day?
Just a first try to get a feel for the fruiting conditions, not expecting much. Is 5-10g dried realistic?
Keep up the work man!
Mush love
I say see what happens, hopefully you have a proper SGFC.
As far as the liner do you spray it down with 70%?
bloopers would be FUNNY....like putting that bag in
🔥🔥
Could I use a64 qt tub? All I can find.
Thanks for the video, great help. I do have a question though... I use "Max yield Bins" that have the bottom of the tub black already. But should I be using a liner anyway, even though the bottom is black already?
I just ordered a MAX YIELD bin how are they and they also make liners max yield does there plastic trays I assume reusable
did that tub got to see a bright future or did it kick the bucket early?
Is there another way to make substrate like sterilizing it in bags in the pressure cooker ?
Great Vidio.. I have been binge watching all your vidio. I will definitely be a Patreon, when you throw that up. I was curious about the amount if Spawn you are putting to coir? You might have mentioned it at some point. It looks like 2 or 3 pounds.. Keep up the good work brother!!!!!
Thanks! I use 3.5-4 pounds of spawn
@@MycoTrophic is that in a 66qt tub?
@@zig9449 56q
Great video! I have a question for you, what type of tape you have on the tub?
He's using Blue Painters Tape (2 inch width, I think) available at any hardware store. Good luck!
can you grow pan cyans with this substrate?
What ratio of spawn to sub do you use?
You did great 👍

How many gal bags liners for a 64qt tub?
Thanks for the video!
Hey thanks for watching!
@@MycoTrophic got a quick question for ya. I been buy shrooms and they have been AMAZING but moved and found another guy and we'll these are weak as shit. They are from a MS syringe. Are all syringes weak or just just get lucky? If I stay at it do you think I could end up getting super potent gens? How often do super potent gens pop up??
@@evertking1 i dont do MS to grain, its a big vector for contamination. BUT, its like the lottery, you might get something good :)
@@MycoTrophic I'm not going directly to grain with it. So, there is no easier way? I just have to weed through spores till I find good gens? Or is their an easier way?
@@evertking1 go spore-agar-grain- tissue culture, then go back to spores from your next generation to bring stability to your genetics.
Is the bout 3lb grain to 5lbs substrate?
how much spawn do I need, how do I know that ?
greetings from chile
Damn good tips here! That I will be further applying to my liner technique. Cannot stand that space on the sides I do in fact get after a couple flushes. 😤🙏🏼
Thank, very helpful. BTW mycelium is pronounced like My See Lee Um
BTW buddy can say it however he pleases
I was planning on using a 27 quart container for a 3lb grain bag. Would that be ok?
That’s be good imo. No such thing as too much spawn haha
Some ppl do a casing layer after the tub colonizes. Why do you do yours this way?
Hi beautiful video. Can you please tell me why some growers mist substrate right after spawn although the reach field capacity?
im not a fan of that, considering the water may not be sterile. if your field capacity is correct you shouldnt have to do that
It's to simulate a natural rain fall.
Not necessary
Any experience with the box fan tech? I am trying it out with success so far only two times. 20x20 2800 I think mev14? Just curious on your opinion?
I don’t recommend it
14:10 once its 80-90% colonised.. And you change the tape to micropore tape... Is there anything else you're supposed to do to allow them to fruit?
Spray it? Scratch the surface? Or do you just change tape and leave it?
Light and fresh air exchange. Meaning fan it a couple times a day for 30 seconds or so
Namaste🕉
Getting new bags I use those thick ones that leave too much air space.
Can you do the “no boil” technique with Rye Berries?
yeah for sure , they rehydrate mush faster though
Also Home Depot is completely sold out of the brand of vermiculite in my side of the state, what would be best to use as a substitute
Straight coco is just fine. Plenty of folks using 100% coco only.
Do you just set and forget your tubs or mist and fan daily? Thanks
I suggest doing the set it and forget it method with a few extra steps.
How do you prevent contam when u do this? People seen to not mention anything about that are u in a sterile room or what?
Umm.....link to those awesome scissors please!
should we sterilize the liner? Sorry if this has been asked
MYCOTROPHIC -- Can you tell me what size STERILITE bin you're using in this video?
OR
Does anyone know what size he is using in this video ?
I believe a 66qt - 70qt clear bin is typical for a MONOTUB.
do you use straight alcohol or diluted? i hear people arguing that bleach is the only way to go and that alcohol doesn't kill mold but merely spreads it around
You want 70% iso propyl alcohol
Wish this channel would get active again
How much sub do you get in a 5 gallon bucket
how do you get away with not spraying your hands or the bucket before handling the substrate and no mold entering the equation?
He would spray it normally just not in the video. He would have also done all this infront of a flow hood. Well i hope so lol
What temperature is ideal for the tub to sit at?
At least 70 - don't go above 76-80 for long times. Promotes fungi growth
Why do I need a liner?
If I am using a 2 quart bag of grain how much coco coir/ substrate should I use?
a 1:1 grain to substrate amount is fine
@@bagelbytes69420 ty
can anyone tell me if optimum bulk spawn temp is different to grain spawn?
I do 77-82° F on spawn. And 72-75° on tub. I don't colonize anymore just straight to micropore tape and don't no misting either till first harvest. Much better results for me
can you use a tub if it once had contamination?
Yes, just spray with 70% iso propyl and wipe out. If you use filter patches you can spray them as well and let it evaporate
If using spores when would you introduce them into the grain
Really wanting to get into this love the videos I just need more help
what about gas exchange in the 10-19 days? do u just leave the bin sealed?
Yes. No matter how excited you are lol don't open until its ready to fruit
How do you know exactly when it's ready to fruit, and can it mess it up if you leave it too long?
what’s good ratio for grain per size mono tub?????
Try 1-1 or 1-2. 1-2 takes longer but hey fuck it
I'm no expert, but shouldn't we be spraying the liner with alcohol before introducing it to the tub since it's directly in contact with the substrate and casing?
My apologies. You had it covered. I didn't listen carefully. Keep on doing your thing. It's appreciated.
@@milesbarca7082where does he have that covered ive watched that so many times. are you correct about spraying them?
Would you have to sterilise the liner?
Answer your question with a question. Does it come into contact with any substrate or mycelium?
@@rustyvessel5086 you cant sterilise a liner.
You can sanitise it.
You don't have to as its not a sterile process and most liners come clean
7th take 😂 fair play mate
How do you make your substrate
I bought some on Etsy. It’s dry substrate that you pasteurize with a bucket and boiling water
What size is your tub?
I need to know too !
So will waiting, will you be misting and fanning every day? Every other day? Or leave it completely alone until you see pins? Sorry if this is a basic question, just trynna get the knowledge I need to feel confident in starting out.
Peace and love my man ✌️
Namaste 🙏
Do more research on this. Set it and forget it!
Why can’t you use micropore tape in the beginning? Too much fresh air exchange?
I’m sorry. Did I miss your ratio?
Why use a liner?
Side pins dawg
what's up with the camera angles?
Come help me film
@@MycoTrophic I would love to collaborate. I was just joking with you because you kept apologizing for the camera angles, which were fine. I can tell that you really care about what you're doing, and that means a lot.
If you have a minute take a look at my latest mushroom time lapse video of a BRF cake grow that I just posted on my channel. I put a lot of effort into it and I don't even really know how to edit videos.
“Use 80% of this bucket…” next video. A specific unit of measurement would be more useful since we know the quantity of grain spawn
Beggars can't be choosers Frank
Yea I was wondering the same thing. I followed along with this and then everything was only an inch in the bottom and he says 3” is best so I ended up adding more substrate and might have done too much now. I went back to try and see how much substrate he had in the bucket but he never shows us so I tried looking through the bucket but who knows if the dark spot is just some scraping up along the wall.
why clean the tub and not the bag lol tf
I've always disagreed with the intro... There def exists fungi that harms things... sounds cool af tho
cheers!
creepier < Ophiocordyceps unilateralis fungus
Haha he's sterile lol
I think you get the same amount of points of contact to your grain if you do the layering method, you just get it done more evenly without disturbing the mycelium too much but what ever is clever, I just feel like you're reasoning for mixing is the exact same reason people choose to layer. Again just an asshole in the comments lol🙄
Yes, cops, it was a white guy with a tattoo. I SEENT IT!
You need a cameraman - your covering up the whole process doing the liner. Camera angles are horrible.
Come help me shoot.
Too much pre explaining. We're watching... Just do it
lol, I would think that the stretch bags only stretch bigger not smaller, hence the word stretch. What I've found is it doesn't matter what liner, it has to do with packing the edges so they shrink properly and not fast and a lot and I've noticed that if you don't use enough substrate, it'll cause excess shrinkage. This is what i found to work for me. Also, don't put the grains all the way the the edges. My opinion from my experience, not saying this is wrong because it will defiantly work.
