Tub Talk Ep. 1: Substate Depth/Colonization/When & How To Initiate Fruiting Conditions

- Hey Myco Family! In this video I go on somewhat of a rant / riff about a few key topics and factors that I consider for FULL and THICK first flushes. The three we are discussing today are; Substate Depth, Colonization, and How + When to initiate fruiting conditions. Considering there are quite a bit of variables and topics on this subject, I decided to dedicate a whole playlist and series to "TUB TALK" where we can really get into the fine details of maintaining proper tub/ growing conditions during the life cycle of your colonizing/ colonized/ fruiting substate.

just got pins coming up, my first ones. I'm feeling like a father in the emergency room.
Hit up @Mycohenry33 on Instagram.he sells psychedelics discreetly. He have shrooms, Dmt, Lsd, and more👽🍄
😂😂🤣🤣🤣And I’m like a first time mother, wondering if my mushy mycelium is happy as I gaze longingly at the closed cupboard. I cling to my smart hygrometers’ data wondering, “are they warm enough? Are they too warm?
Duuude I left the same way! My little ones said "you love the mushrooms more than us!" I just laugh so hard... Joking around I answered "yup you're right". Of course they knew I was joking. But my little one can see how much care I took with my first mushroom growth. Lol
@@88knuckles88 it's just a hobby, a cheap hobby. I like growing things.
God it's such a rush. Congrats!
Bro you and 90 sec. Myco. have the best info. Much love man from Colorado.
Of the 100’s of videos I’ve watched, this is by far the best. Thank you
Wanted to make sure and let you know you're the best instruction I've found thus far. I went looking for a good few banks of knowledge and you're definitely one of these
Thank you 🙏
I’m glad that you mentioned that you should think like a mushroom. Being a person that fishes and hunts avidly I always tell people the best results are gonna come when you think the way of fish or your prey does. You’re truly a great instructor and if you’re not a professor or a teacher by trade, I think you missed your calling.
Looks like he's selling a shit ton of dookie boomers lol
My grains are almost 100% colonized. My substrate ingredients should be here in 4 days and just in time since my grain will be ready to go by then. This is my first round of growing mushrooms and I successfully inoculated and colonized my different grain spawn mediums used. I’m very excited to get to this part and hopefully have a harvest in a few weeks. Videos like this have helped me so much as a newbie. I appreciate your videos. ❤
Very thankful for content like this, and I'll be putting out my own as soon as I'm satisfied with my setup and sterile conditions.
With the aid of your channel and those like it I feel like I'm starting with a extremely solid foundation for success.
damn, that's the third of your video I'm viewing, and I'm trully impressed by the quality of the disussion and everything !
I'm subscribing, those numbers of yours are way under what you deserve
Wow! Thank you!
This video solved several problems i had in the past. So simple and makes so much sense. Ive had 100% success since implementing these ideas/techniques. Thank you Mycotrophic keep up the good work. 🙏🙏🙏
Would be nice to share what problems you had and how you fixed it
Amazing info !! Just getting into the mushroom growing and I’m a fiend for information. Your videos are next level. Thank you for sharing and hopefully I can be sending some pics to ya fairly soon. I’m a beginner with the mushrooms but have been growing all kinds of other foods for years. Thanks again bro !!
This literally answered all my questions as a first time tub grower, and i thought your knowledge and enthusiasm id both infectious and entertaining. Thank you. Mush Love🍄
Ive found that more air exchange both in colonizing grain & substrate is helpful as long as its filtered. That exchange allows the mycelium to grow so much faster & tend to grow near the exchange vs the opposite areas if those areas are being suffocated. My inoculation ports on my bags seldom have the most mycelium but rather the area closest to the exchange.
I think the mushroom community is full of many stoners who regurgitate & echo each other religiously w/o understanding jack & nor having eyes to see & make sense of truths that contradict the doctrines they swear by as to fit in. That said, Ive come to realize better air exchange = faster colonization however you still want to avoid free air doing as it pleases to avoid contamination.
Ive also learned that slightly funky smells during colonization of the substrate are not such a bad thing as some people echo. So much air is allowed to remain in a bulk sized tote that its more likely to carry a slight funk as the mycelium is growing & pissing in a pasteurized substrate that isnt 100% sterile.
Catching the slight wiff of it is usually ok & will vanish as the cake becomes even more mycelium filled THANKS to air exchange. Its actually a good idea to open the lid after 7 days & give it a chance to expel that funk & start fresh especially if you noticed the mycelium growing slower after about 4-5 days which is usually when that gas builds up. Its not mandatory but again, it speeds up the process.
The biggest thing missing from the mush community is spore consciousness. People teach it but they teach it as a small subtitle in the 90% main theme of their messages & insights when it should really be the FIRST & MAJOR thing people learn(how invisible spores are floating everywhere & are the reason why we do ABC to avoid XYZ).
So much of this growing has become a religion rather than an actual UNDERSTANDING of whats happens so that we can consciously "break the rules" safely rather than following them in vain due to complete ignorance of their purpose. Its like watching something at subway ring you up on the cash register using the same gloves theyre about to serve the next person w/...
....makes 0% sense & they are clearly too dumb to understand why theyre wearing gloves. Better they break the rule & make your food w/ clean hands than make your food w/ dirty gloves....your food being clean is the goal, not their hands....but what can you expect from typical stoner culture who migrate to mushroom culture? F-ck-ry, thats what. lol
100% and it's the same in the cannabis growin community, if you suggest something different you're shot down and treated as mentally insane.
100%, when they grow outside they have plenty of air exchange.
@@blacksheepdetecting Very true , that;s why i just keep to myself and i do just fine 😎
@@blacksheepdetecting I'm about to try dmt for the first time, also trying to learn how to grow mushrooms, do you have any tips other than these ones above?
Brilliant observations! Makes sense. I will test out FAE idea on my spawn jars soon. Should be easy enough since all I have to do is add 1, 2, then 3 filtered holes into mason jar lid then for a 4th I can use a full filter top lid. Inoculate them all, then let the race begin!
You came out of no where bro and have some of the best content I’ve seen. Finally someone I can relate to on an intellectual level.
Just found your channel and it already has been more useful than all the others. thanks.
Amazing content, man. Thanks so much for putting it together. Lots of useful notes that I took while watching. First try... Here we go!
Thank YOU! Good luck, keep me posted? Feel free to ask me questions on IG 😎👌
To be good at something it takes looking at all perspectives. Very well thought out process
Awesome Possum ! My popcorn is covered with the fuzzies and I’m about to fill my tubs with substrate for my first grow. Good info for all us newbies and experienced growers alike. Subbed, liked and ringing that bell. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
The best advice i have watched so far, thanks so much.
Best content in CZcams 🙏💟
Clarified the most important part of growing magic mushrooms with monotube
Finally, videos that help, thank you
You explained well, and you changed my thinking, I will be binging your vids soon. Ty
Thank you!!
You are THE best teacher my man, props. Keep it up plz
I really do appreciate the information. It truly does help tremendously. First time grower, and I’m excited to learn.
Happy to help, mycology is a great passion to peruse 🙏
First time grower. Thanks for vid. Plain & simple

You are not a master You Are A GURU!!!! Thank You!!!
Thank you for the detailed info on temperatures etc. very good info most skim over
Great thorough video. I see a lot of people who are "experts", which they all are in their own ways but they have a lot of short videos that don't go into detail for the real beginners.
Thank so much bro. You clarified what I suspected has been my problem. Invaluable
At last! Was beginning to think some vids were purposely misleading me. NO ONE explains this like you do. I have been too shallow. Thanks.
Just opened up my mind, its on now,Thank you for the knowledge.👊🏼💪🏼✌🏼
Awesome content my friend! Very enjoyable and informative. Keep up the great work.
Really helped me out. Got some info I was looking for. Thanks

Thanks. Very informative
Yes this is what I'm looking for thanks
Great detailed info. Awesome

I was wondering why I keep getting green mold in my tubs and now I'm realizing I have my temp to high and my humidity to high thank you for breaking these steps down for me I really understand it better now! Thanks for your knowledge!
Cobweb is normally from too much humidity, trich is prob from bad gypsum or a dirty MSS or bad breath lol
@@U--Haul😂😂
You are a master...you make it so simple
It’s super simple
I came across this Healer who got the best psychedelic, was passing through mental stress and depression... He refines dmts professionally and grow shrooms as well, now I feel like a new being again ,all thanks to mycohenry33 🙏IG@mycohenry33
Better than mwgk growing info.. Keep rockin brotha!
Ayo just the video I needed right now to pop up on my feed, cheers legend love your Instagram
This video was perfect for me as where I at right now . “Be a mushroom”
Exactly man exactly.
Edit, I want to add Great video!!
my other project is also sensitive to fluctuations in heat and humidity as well as watering etc and I have run some amazing hydroponic setups and gotten wonderful results ( as well many failures) and you nailed it... 'you gotta be a mushroom.'
I am not there yet with mushrooms but my plants tell me just what I need to do when I listen.
This video helped me realize what went wrong with my go...heat.
It got upwards of 80f for a few hours each day this last week during colonization with little very small air exchange in the grain containers.
They appear stalled however I think
cold==slow/stall, hot==dead with mycelium?
Moved it all to a lower level @67-73f
Any updates?
Amazing video man. Thank you
I’ve heard too much different info on weather or not to choke out the air during colonization. Let it breath. Choke it out. Thanks for the info bro. Mush luv.
Great info and tips
Airflow. It's what many don't talk about. How much? When? Should u open the tub to fan? Should u not? In colonization it's not needed but in fruiting conditions it does.
Just starting on this trip set up tent today gotta inject some jars and off we go . Thanks for the depth tips and what your doing interesting. I'm hoping this all fruit and eat work's well
Good stuff. Nice channel for learning, I like Philly golden teacher as well.
Thank you ! No one Ever talks about temperatures for colonization and that of Fruiting ! 😊I appreciate it, finally!!
Amazing guy! Earned a sub. Keep it up.. I hope my first ever shoebox will make it. Ended up with two inches because two of my jars stalled out.

Dude, u literally saved my sanity, THANKYOU!! I started learning and giving it a go in late Feb. and my first tub I did didn’t do well surprisingly. I know, go figure right? J/k but I was able to grow some small mushrooms, maybe around 20 in all which equaled out to like 3 grams wet, so not a lot. Well, after my second go I got nothing, not even 1 mushroom. I didn’t know why they weren’t forming, my mycelium looked healthy with no contamination, so I thought to just give it time. I had that tub for almost 2 months trying to keep it going without it ever seeing a single pin form. I was lost, but then I watched your video. I wasn’t making my substrate cake thick enough or using enough spawn. Before it was maybe 1 inch thick so that’s why I had no mushrooms. Sorry for going on about it but your video helped me understand a lot of how everything has to be in harmony to create the right kind of “atmosphere”? for fruits to grow. Thanks a lot bro, Peace.
How long do they take to grow, assuming you have already got your first flush back after watching the video. And they are psychedelic shrooms right?
@@brianfender6811 depends on the strain and tek, it shouldn’t take over a month. And no, this information is for legal edible mushrooms.
@@brianfender6811 nice try officer
@@nathanpinson3492 not a popo lmfao 💀 literally just ate some shrooms. Just curious cause them mfs too expensive
I learned so much about the moisture level with the way you explained
I how I didn’t ruin mine it’s super stringy white
Im not spraying my substrate anymore
Excellent video 🙏🏽
Great video thanks man
Super helpful. Just made my first tub and I wish insaw this before. Doing two 12 quart tubs and I think you just may have helped me tremendously.
Thank you.
Love n Respect to you good sir.
Excellent...Thank You !!!
Love this video and I wish I would have came across this one before I started my first grow. I didn’t have enough substrate, had temps too high and too much humidity. This caused some contamination in my cake that I cut out. Pins are starting to come out but the cake was fighting to do it’s thing. Still going to produce some but by no means a high yield. Good leaning experience on what not to do and on my next grow after watching this video should be a heck of a lot better!
I was worried that the condensation from my humidifier was too much. I think I’m good. Thanks. 👍🏽
Your the best brotha 🙏🏼💯🍻
thanks for your support!
Thanks it's very informative. There are so many methods out there I got confused sometimes. I've got a tub and a bucket, drill bucket with holes at the side and the base. but then I realized that two many holes gave me more pins but less flushes. There are enough substrates in my 10L bucket, and I put bucket into bigger tub for a better environment. just left a tiny gap on top for air exchange since I don't want to damage my beautiful tub with big holes. So far I only got 3-4 small flushes, rests are small pins, will see
Fantastic video
I messed up my first tub over misting!!!caused tric sow bad.a lesson learned for shure.your video Shure helped.
so so helpul!!!
Excellent informative video. Exactly what I would do if I would make videos.
LOVE THE TERENCE in the beginning
Nice vid gives me stuff to think about
Hey man just wanted to let you know .... GREAT WORK 👍 and thank you for allowing us all to learn and colonize together to be a great community/first timers/medical patients also a question of course... here it is Can you have too much colonized grainspawn in your substrate to cause issues like they can suck all the water and cause it to not initiate pinning or something
Great video.
Loved your comment remember when you introduce FAE you lower temperature of surface because evaporation cools.
