I genuinely am considering if this is the greatest song they ever recorded. The changes in tempo, Bruce's octave leaps, the absolutely premium bass from Steve...It's right up there. God knows I hope we get to hear it live eventually!

Along with Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner and Nomad, this is my favourite Iron Maiden song. Saw the lads for the first time back in 1980 at the Reading Rock Festival in England (I'm from Belgium). Bass player Steve Harris writes most of the music and lyrics. A live version to check is The Clansman performed at Rock in Rio. Cheers.
Just discovered your channel, and I don't know where you live, but North America seems like a pretty good guess. Iron Maiden is going on a North American tour this summer, and given how much you seem to be enjoying them, I _highly_ recommend you check them out live. Their live show is second-to-none, and really will blow you away. I'm going to see 'em in August and the date can't get here fast enough. So if you have the opportunity, check on their website and see if they are playing near you, and if so, do it. You'll have a great time, I promise.
In my opinion, you can talk as much as you want over the music. It's a reaction after all. For your next Maiden reaction, I'd suggest Dance of Death, as it's a completely different sounding song to the others you've done. One other thing, you've previously said that you wouldn't do any "cookie monster" stuff. I'm not the biggest fan of that stuff either, but I implore you to check out the song Under the Red Cloud from Amorphis just as an experiment. The band combines melodic music and great singer who does exceptional clean singing, which he occasionally accentuates with growls. His performances have really sold me on growling as a spice that, when used sparingly, can really improve a song.
Great band , great song and great reactions. I can recomanded Paschendale, emontional war story, Revelations 'bout existance and When The Wild Wind Blows 'bout vision of catastrophe.

one thing guys, educating purpose...back in the good old days, the last song of the album was something really special, like Alexander The Great, or Mother Russia from, No Prayer For The Dying. That song would make a pretty badass reaction!
@@rayrobinson7110 I'm 57. From my late childhood, I listened to the Stones, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Led Zep... until I saw Maiden live on the Killers tour in a local venue in 1981, when I was 19. Since then, Maiden has always been my all-time favourite metal band, bar none. I love the drive, the energy, the fact that you can hear every note on every instrument and every word in every lyric. I love the split leads, especially when the second is in a different key, as here, dropped a whole tone. And I love the signature dual leads especially. Maiden never fail to adapt, improve and amaze. And yet their earlier stuff still sounds totally amazing, just how I remember it. Of stage cuts (AtG has never been played live to my knowledge), Halllowed Be Thy Name is the all time king of metal songs, followed by Rime, Powerslave, and then a toss-up between Judas Priest's Painkiller and The Flight Of Icarus.

Hey guys! Hope all is well and hadn't come upon this reaction. If you check out the Maiden library you'll see Steve Harris has written/co-written a TON of their songs. IMO, Maiden is the premiere progressive metal band ever … but that's just my two cents. Like you said, when you listen to the songs you're either on a journey or a history lesson … I love it \m/\m/. Love you guys!
Okay.. have a few suggestions for you. Not knowing your full musical background this may be hit or miss with regard to music you have not heard. From what I have seen from the videos of yours I have watched, apparently Kel studied classical music (or was in an orchestra or symphony of some kind) and Rich has at least some metal history with Metallica and Megadeth... and are just now exploring Iron Maidens massive body of work...so with that in mind: For Metallica: "The Call of Cthulhu" S&M version For Megadeth: "Poisonous Shadows" For Iron Maiden: "Purgatory" Now, on to other bands to which I have no idea your current exposure: For Black Sabbath: "Heaven and Hell" (Ronnie James Dio on vocals.. a pretty mandatory reaction so may as well get it out of the way) "God is Dead" (Ozzy Osbourne on vocals.. have not seen a reaction to this one in a long time) For the band "Dio" : "All the Fools Sailed Away" "My Eyes" For Rainbow: "Stargazer" (Ronnie James Dio on vocals) For Judas Priest: "Painkiller" (Rob Halford on vocals.. pretty much also a mandatory reaction) "Victim of Changes" For Slayer: "War Ensemble" "Postmortem/Reign In Blood" (Two songs that are merged into one.. need to react to the combo for proper effect.. not each song individually) For Anthrax: "Among the Living" "Black Lodge" For Mercyful Fate: "Melissa" "Satan's Fall" For King Diamond: "At The Graves" "Abigail" (Yes, my username here is based on this album/song/character within the album) For Ghost: "Cirice" "Pro Memoria" "Helvetesfönster" (An instrumental.. so went ahead and threw it in as a 3rd song here) For Pantera: "Cemetary Gates" "Medicine Man" for Devin Townsend: "Stormbending" "Deadhead" (Live at the Royal Albert Hall) For Gojira: "Stranded" "Heaviest Matter In The Universe" I know this is a long list.. but it barely scratches the surface of possible bands to check out.. let alone their bodies of work. Consider this a primer for each band.. some you may like and some you may not. It is okay to not like a specific song or band. I prefer honesty in reactions and do not base my like or dislike on whether someone likes specific songs, bands, or genres. After all.. if all music sounded the same, the world would be a boring place indeed. Peace
The thing about iron maiden is, they know what the subconscious wants. You can drag something out too long and the brain will flick this switch over, making you lose interest. Iron maiden however knows exactly what your brain wants to hear next without you even realizing you wanted to hear that next, and they hit the transition spot on time and time again.
Best song on Somewhere In Time, an album full of great songs IMO. My fourth favourite Maiden album after Number of the Beast, Powerslave and Piece of Mind.
IRON MAIDEN is in a category all of their own, their contribution to music , is why they are legends in their own time, one of the most respected bands on the globe.
I'm loving it. Think it is fantastic that a couple can dig on maiden and each other. Wife and I have been doing it for 30 years. Have they done flight? UP THE IRONS👊
Just going on memory here when I read the liner notes 30 years ago, Steve Harris, the bassist, writes most of their songs. Dave Murray, one of their guitarists, also does his fair share of the writing.
I think you may have meant adrian smith cuz to my knowledge dave murray only wrote or actually co wrote 4 maiden songs in total..At least from the 1st album to no prayer for the dying..adrian has definetely written, co written more than that so...
My history teacher in high school(years ago)started talking about Alex the Great in class. I let him listen to this song on casette during class and he became a Maiden fan that day. 🤘🙂🤘
Ofc one really funny thing is that they don't play this live - it's a very long piece. But their all-female tribute band "The Iron Maidens" have actually done it live, and no too shabbily.
What is your favorite song so far. I have been introducing my 10 year old son to Maiden and he is nuts for them. I am going to try to get him to Montreal in August to see them live. His favorite is run to the hills.
Love your reactions, it's amazing. It's like I'm in the same room going nuts! You must react to Iron Maiden's The Trooper. This is a mosh pit supernova!
easily my favorite Iron Maiden song. It is also an absolute blast to play on guitar ! it's so cool, knowing the 'intense' parts of songs, I' m always thinking 'oh how will she react to whats coming next !'
React to Maiden's, To Tame a Land! Oh and if you want something new and out of the box, check out Alien Weaponry. They are a teenage thrash band out of New Zealand that sing in the native Maori tongue. Check out their songs, Kai Tangata or Rū Ana Te Whenua to start with.
Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Megadeth?! You’re hitting all my favorites, BUT: YOU GUYS HAVEN’T experience music until you discovered Devin Townsend! Try Devin Townsend - Stormbender! Watch the music video too! Then do the new Devin Townsend song “Genesis” to see this musical genius at play. :)
Hi guys :) you may never get a chance to read this but, I just wanna say that you guys are AWESOME!!! Rich, your a good dude bro, remind me of a very good friend. Kelz, your so cool, metalhead for real, man do you feeeeel the music, soak in the visuals.. very cool you guys. R.I.P to your son...
Pretty cool to watch. I remember when I bought this LP (yeah LP) the first day I could get it at the record shop and listened to this song first.. Since I was such a fan of History, this particular song really knocked me down... I thought the song was winding down when all of a sudden....'A Phrygian King had bound a chariot yoke And Alexander cut the 'Gordian knot'' I was jumping around my room. Fun to watch the reaction when the song kicks in again. Such a long song, so smooth. One of my favorites
Iron Maiden are the philosophers of metal music. Their work is based on history, philosophy, poetry, or human nature. Some people find it boring because it generally lacks the shredding most people expect....but.... there is a reason they are the tip of the metal pyramid of greatness.

Steve Harris writes most of their lyrics he's incredible.
The solo was meant to tell the story of various stages in Alexander's life. From his rise to power, his struggle, his victory, and his downfall.
. Alexander never had a downfall. He died in his bed. His Empire fell to pieces under his successors, after his death.

"Helvetesfönster" (An instrumental.. so went ahead and threw it in as a 3rd song here)
For Pantera: "Cemetary Gates"
"Medicine Man"
for Devin Townsend: "Stormbending"
"Deadhead" (Live at the Royal Albert Hall)
For Gojira: "Stranded"
"Heaviest Matter In The Universe"
I know this is a long list.. but it barely scratches the surface of possible bands to check out.. let alone their bodies of work.
Definitely please check out King Diamond. His operatic metal voice might give you both some extreme interest.
"Aces High"! Fantastic Maiden song!
My favorite Maiden song. Thank you
My history teacher in high school(years ago)started talking about Alex the Great in class. I let him listen to this song on casette during class and he became a Maiden fan that day. 🤘🙂🤘
They write there own music, up the irons. If the want an album to listen to try powerslave album
I saw them live a lot of times....I only wish, that they will play Alexander live and I will be there, no matter what!
Iron Maiden not only gives you awesome music, you get a history lesson in almost every song.
Amazingly the bass player pretty much writes most of their music. React to their best epic track “To tame a land”
Love this! ⚡️🤘🏻🎸 Maiden forever
Ofc one really funny thing is that they don't play this live - it's a very long piece. But their all-female tribute band "The Iron Maidens" have actually done it live, and no too shabbily.
What’s crazy is the level of success they’ve achieved with little to no radio airplay. To my knowledge they’ve never even been nominated for a Grammy!
In my opinion this was the best lineup for iron maiden. And somewhere in time was a very under rated album. Love your channel too
GREAT STUFF!!! NOW "TO TAME A LAND"!!! GREETZ
Please, try with "Wasted years" by IM back to 1986 too.
What is your favorite song so far. I have been introducing my 10 year old son to Maiden and he is nuts for them. I am going to try to get him to Montreal in August to see them live. His favorite is run to the hills.
Alexander the great is my favorite song from the iron maiden band
Thanks for sharing . Love Kel's reactions
What's great about this song is that it is all historical fact.
I thought the song was winding down when all of a sudden....'A Phrygian King had bound a chariot yoke
And Alexander cut the 'Gordian knot'' I was jumping around my room. Fun to watch the reaction when the song kicks in again.
Such a long song, so smooth. One of my favorites
This in my opinion is one of the most epic songs ever created by the legendary Iron Maiden. Up the irons
My favorite band in the world
thx good pick❤❤💀❤❤ - - keep Maiden, sometimes is good talk about lyrics😉
