  • Got a good deal on a new compressor and hose reel. It's a McGraw 21 gal 175 PSI oilless electric (110v). Let's see if it lives up to the hype and is a good value for a home shop! I also got their 50 foot 3/8 inch hose reel with spring driven retraction and I set it up with 3/8 fittings rather than the normal 1/4 inch. It can provide a lot of air!

    Just recently purchased that compressor. Much quieter than my old Coleman Powermate it replaced. I was able too remove that front dummy plug with a 1/2 ratchet an 6mm Allen head socket although it was pretty snug. I took out the extra warranty too, so far, happy with it, time will tell. Had a big wait at three t different HF stores too get them restocked though. Must be in high demand???🤔

    been researching for a couple of weeks now on a compressor. I when into HF to buy this they didn't have it in stock. I then saw the fortress and started researching that. I then found the Kobalt quiet tech 26 which is what I'll be buying. Thanks the sound on this is way to much for me.

      That's a good choice too, almost bought the kobalt. Then my local store upped the price about $100 and I couldn't wait around for it to come down again. But seems like a nice unit. The hf McGraw has gotten quieter with more run-time, so I'm happy with it.

    In the 30 min break period , how did you have the psi valve ? I know the air valve have to be open but manual wont show psi valve .

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  Před rokem

      The top main valve with the psi gauge can be in any position. It doesn't matter because with the lower relief valve open, the tank isn't holding any pressure. Just open the bottom valve wide open, turn it on and run for 30 min. Done!

    Where did you get that earthquake stubby from and how much did it cost?

      That was from Harbour Freight and I think it was 80 bucks with a coupon. It's held up nicely.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  Před 3 lety

      For even heavy use, it will keep up no problem. I can take off the lugs for 4 tires in quick succession before it will even kick on to bring the pressure up again. The 175 psi makes a big difference.

    I have been into cars for roughly the last 3 years. When Milwaukee came out with their line of fuel impacts, air impacts honestly became irrelevant.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  Před 3 lety

      I mostly agree. However if you need a compressor for other things like painting, nailing, misc shop air, then air tools are a cheap way to get a quality item. A really high torque impact can be had for 50% less than a similar battery powered tool. Not to mention the high cost of batteries. Also form factor...I haul out my stubby air impact all the time for tight quarters. Twice the torque as my small electric and like 3 inches thinner.

    Something must be wrong with that dewalt. I have a kobalt plug in the same size and it’s nearly as powerful as my earthquake xt stubby.

      @OGPedXing  Před 4 lety

      Yeah it's yellow and black. I kid, I kid. 😄 Never had much luck with that brand... this one is pretty old and it was cheap. I think a 350 ftlb rating. But that was a wildly optimistic number. Other plugins I've used since are fine. For a store brand, Kobalt has been good to me, have several of their tools.

    This compressor is a P.O.S. Mine died. Less than 2 years old with very little use.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  Před 5 měsíci

      What's it doing, nothing when you turn it on? Mine took a power surge about a year ago and it burnt out the pressure cutoff sensor switch. When that happens, it won't turn on. I got a replacement for about 15 bucks and it's been good ever since. (It just unscrews and the electrical connections are just standard spades.) Try checking that and the power switch with a volt meter. May not be your problem, but worth a shot.

      @@OGPedXingMine is hit & miss. Sometimes it will come on. Run maybe 30 sec or a minute. But it never gets to 175 psi. 20 or 30psi at best before it shuts off. Smells like burnt electrical. I'm thinking possibly the brushes. This compressor has not been overworked by any means. I'm a bit disgusted, with this harbor freight product. $250. Wasted.

      I take it you didn't stay to the end? I should have put a better intro...after the install is the sound test, talking about how the manifold doesn't really work, etc. Fill time is reasonable, I think 10 minutes maybe a bit less. Reasonable since it's 175 psi which is higher than most you see at this price.

      @@OGPedXing u right I did not watch till the end, got frustrated my fault just looking to see if it will handle automotive impact tools and at what psi I knw it is label on the tools itself but this China made products run different it will say 90 psi but in order for me to get that out of the old central pneumatic I had to crank that sucker to 110 psi and then the gauge will give me 90 psi something wrong with the tank regulator had to use my snap on one attached to the hose that attached to the tool... head ache believe me that thing still runs but my garage getting bigger and more cars coming through small mom and pops hustle thats why I was looking at this one since both the husky ones I bought one had bad contacts inside exchange the other one 3 months later motor just died ( like all my dreams ) LOL so yeah bad luck in 2020 for sure and why I dnt buy snap on compressor well same size 150 PSI and snap on wants 2nd mortgage at home 3 personal loans at 35% interest and of course both my kids college funds and thats the cheapest snap on has LOL ut they expensive and dnt feel the need to buy high when I can replace one that is cheaper when it burns out instead of me paying snap on to fix it another 2.3 million out of my pocket LOL thanks for the reply and not getting offended

      @OGPedXing  Před 3 lety +1

      @@teojim yeah I haven't done a good test on the gauges but it think they're close...I do tend to put it 10-15 psi higher than what the tool says...so if the impact wrench says 90 I'll put it to about 110. But it drives it just fine. It's may have some pressure drop just because of the 50 foot reel. I've been happy with the compressor though. I bought an lvlp spray gun but I haven't tried yet. I'm hoping it will be enough to do a whole car if I don't mind going panel by panel.
