I like how you're calling out manufacturers for using the slower RAM. It's the only way they'll learn.
Even if it is all they can get in bulk I still think people should know what they're getting.
They won't tho,..... SAVING money is ideal and MAKING money is paramount.
Unfortunately things are not going to change. It's not because OEMs are stingy with memory sticks. They just run out of faster sticks in stock due to global shortage of chips. Thus almost all the brands deliver new laptops with slower RAM at the moment.

The 74 degree temperature limit on the rtx 3060 is an asus software bug, it is caused by switching between arnoury crate performance profiles, especially in manual mode or when switching from silent mode. Workaround: switch to turbo mode and turn on IGP mode in software, (turns off the RTX 3060) then wait a few seconds and turn it back on. Use it on turbo mode and the temp limit will be 86 degrees. The power consumption will go up to 80W and the performance will be much better. The same software bug was in the 2020 model. It was caused by switching too quickly between silent and other power modes. The 74 degree limit should only be active in silent mode. (I also have a 2021 g14 and the gpu consumes 77 - 80W during games with the latest drivers)

Just made manual mode and cap the cpu at 20w . The gpu Will go up to 78w

Would love to see some content on docking stations/type c seteups for AMD laptops. This appears to be a struggle to find what would be optimal and provide the most functional setup. Currently running a Zephyrus G15 and have a type dongle setup, but its not great. Recommnedations would be fantastic.

I really wish next year they will include a version with RTX 4070 with 80-100 watt. I think they can pull it off and make very good competition to the razer blade 14 in terms of raw power and performance. I have the 2060 model and I have loved this machine ever since I bought. Trully great value for money for this portability!

This laptop design is most suitable for mid tier graphic card like 1650. 3060 3070 are too much and will cause overheating. 3070 is good on PC. Laptop will not be long lasting, so expensive GPU is not worth it

I'm curious about the exact model shown in your video. Not sure if it's a region specific thing, but all of the 2021 G14 models I can find available in the US only come in the silver color. I'd prefer the black exterior if possible. I checked your affiliate links in the description and these appear to be 2020 models with 20xx series Nvidia cards and Ryzen 7 4xxx series. Is there a 2021 model with updated specs in black color too? Do you have any insight on that? Appreciate it!

Its crazy how the Predator Triton 500 with i7-10750h 2080 gpu holds up with all theese new laptops, it still beats many of the 3070 and even some 3080 cards for theese test that is showend, ofc many of theese are amd and many of theese games favoure intel, but i get 112 in shadow of the tomb raider, and 72 fps in valhalla, 112 fps in far Cry. i just order new ram for testing so i am gonna see if i can get even better result :) good video Jarrod. but yes it will be fun to see how the predator triton 500 SE holds up :) just hope they think about thermals for that laptop.

Have you notice coil whine problems?
I read *alot* of complaints that there is pretty much always varying levels of high pitch, or ''electronic'', irritating noises.
Having had this problem with a different laptop I didn't keep because of it, I'd like to know for this one.
That said, kudos for the single relatively affortable gaming laptop that has actual good sRBG% color display.
Did you get the new flow revision with the 3050ti? That's the only version sold here. I doubt you'd re-review it, but I'd love to see the diff between the 3050 and the 1650
Not yet, if they sent it I'd probably just do a brief comparison with the 1650 but yeah depends on if ASUS have one to lend.

Hi Jarrod, quick thoughts.
What would you choose between the Alienware M15 R4 i10-10870, RTX 3070 125-140W (USD 1881 on Dell US website) or the MSI GP66 Leopard RTX 3070, 125-135W (USD 1899 on Newegg).
Only will be buying for gaming purposes (esports like Valorant dota2 and AAA like RDR2, Witcher equally played). No editing or any other work, want a gaming laptop that can last as long as possible.

Hey, thanks for the review; I recently got one and the high temperatures during gaming sessions are no joke. It doesn't bother me that much because I do use a mouse and mechanical keyboard when gaming, but is this a concern in terms of the longevity of the device? Thanks
You can do some tweaking to turn off cpu boosting which helps temperatures a lot and typically has minimal to little performance impact

I got mine last week or so from JB, the 3060 Ryzen 7 version. It's been pretty good so far. I kind of wish the fan settings very more dynamic, I always have to switch back to silent mode after gaming otherwise it keeps the fans pumping on performance mode
JB is a scam. They overcharge on a high number of products. At least their customer support and return policy is good. But not good enough to add and extra 300+

@@serbansss I have it, its pretty good, but no MUX switch. The only real game I play tho is CSGO so it doesn't really matter to me too much. The screen is really good tho, same with battery.

I've got the 2020 firestarter model. Once it turned itself on in it's case.......idk how long maybe ran for 20hours so all I know. Thing was so damn hot, but it works like new lol.

Thanks for the informative review. Is the left side USB-C with the direct connection to the RTX card also new on this year's model or was this also available on last year's model? If you were going to use this with a USB-C connection to an Oculus Quest VR headset would this be the preferred connection port or does it not matter?
2020 model also had it - and oculus quest vr you can only connect to the left usb-c port as the right one has no displayport

Is the higher resolution noticeable on a 14" screen? The 1080p is $300 cheaper albeit with 16GB less ram down from 32GB. Options are weird here in New Zealand.

I recently had to buy a new laptop since my old one died ( after 2 god damn years) and since i was on a budget (not a low one but still not the biggest) i ran through my options. The options were a legion 5/Omen 15 or the G14 but damn the legion 5 looks bad IMO. Asymmetric, plastic, and that vent design on the back i never liked (My laptop that died was a Y540, so I am also a lil bit skeptical about lenovo products since :D). The omen 15 just doesnt appeal to me, idk why, also heard that has some overheating issues (not that the G14 is the coolest laptop ever but still).

Hey Jarrod! Nice review. Bought my G14 a month ago. However benchmark tested shadow of the tomb raider in highest settings using turbo mode which didnât go beyond 45-50 FPS. Would you like to help me out what Iâm doing wrong so I could maximize the output of games.

To bypass the integrated graphics with the usbc does the laptop screen need to be off at all times even before you start the machine?

hey there, first of all, amazing video! and well i am coming here to ask some opinions, i am this year going to university to a engineering course that (as far as i know) i will need a really good computer with good expect that can handle works and projects in programs like SolidWorks and other. unfortunately macbook air with a M1 won't be a option, because some of the programs that i will need do not run on macos and i dont think it is worth it to run windows on a mac, so i was thinking on playing safe and buying a good windows pc, a gaming one (because over all i think it is where i can get the best deal on performance and expects for the price). my point is, on my situation, what do u guys suggest? i had in mind asus g14 with a Amd 7 5800Hs and a Rtx 3060Ti (yes, ik i could get a legion laptop with same expect for a bit less money but i find asus g14 worth for the portability and better build quality). do u think i am doing the right choice? tell me
I know it might be late, but this particular processor is one of the fastest mobile CPU on the market. And the 3060 is also fantastic for modern gaming. I would get at least 16 gigs of ram though.
Definitely get this if you want the most bang for the buck for a 14 inch laptop.

I like how you removed the msi ge76 10 and 11 uh 3080 models from the gaming benchmarks. Considering it always takes the top spot but it's nearly impossible to get one unless you are willing to wait months.
I just got the G14, and my biggest problem is that it will not sleep. I have tried every setting imaginable and still no luck. This appears to be a problem with the G14, as I've had no luck on the internet in trying to find a solution. I am probably going to return it unfortunately unless I can find a fix for this. Any ideas Jarrod?
*Edit*
After researching I found that this laptop only supports S0 sleep and not the familiar S3 sleep. I still don't know how reliable the S0 is, especially if you have this in a laptop bag. Hibernate is probably safer if storing in a bag or case.

I want to buy Asus ROG strix G17. But I don't which cpu and gpu combo should go.. (R9 5900H & rtx 3060) or ( R7 5800H & rtx 3060). I want to use it for gaming and studies.
This seems like the perfect plane laptop. 14 inches is about perfect for that and I'd think in performance mode if you had a 100 watt USBC charger, 78 watts for CPU + GPU, it wouldn't drain the battery.
Don't forget that display uses power too.

I just bought this today and man does it get hot. Not sure if it's okay for it to pretty warm on the bottom, but is that normal for it to gain more heat on the actual model if it's made out of metal?
I have this same laptop, it gets hot on the keyboard quite a bit. The solution I found to it is when I'm gaming on it, I made a custom profile that it would max out the fans if the CPU or GPU goes past 60 degrees.
Have it a fan noise in silent mode with no performance? Like a previous year model
