Asus Zephyrus G14 & G16 (2024) One Month Later: the GOOD and the BAD!

- Asus nailed it with these new Zephyrus laptops. I'm loving the new slimmer profile, and the less-gamer-forward design with the slash LED lighting. If you're in the market for a new laptop and you're looking for a laptop with amazing speakers, amazing performance, and a beautiful OLED display that not only looks good, has a high refresh rate and VRR, these laptops are it. There are other laptops out there that's around the same price range, but I think Asus really did a killer job here for its overall package, and you just gotta use one for yourself to believe it.

This laptop has been something I've been looking for. Something that I can game on occasionally, and use it for school/work. The battery life and how light it is, is amazing.
just bought mine - its impossible to overstate how incredible the speakers are. sounds like im playing sound from an external speaker with NO distortion on higher volumes. the display is GORGEOUS too
Right??? I just re tested this against other laptops (future videos) spoiler alert, this is still the best.
The g14 or g16?
@@en_vy g14!
Screen wobble should not exists for the price the laptop cost.
Who's even moving their laptop enough to have this be a problem lol doesn't affect me whatsoever
I mean I use mine all day everyday, and it's not an issue at all. I mean yeah if you're flinging the screen open and close it's gonna wobble, but I have zero issues when typing. You'd have to literally stare at the corners of the screen to notice any wobble
I swear all of you guys are overreacting, I have the new G14 and I never notice any sort of screen wobble when I type
@@iceloading117Yeah, I have one and it's definitely annoying and something they should improve on, but definitely not a reason to avoid getting one altogether imo. Also I noticed the screen wobble gets a lot more minimal once you open the lid completely
Unless you use it in a moving vehicle on a pothole infested road, screen wobble is literally a non-issue.
Been using my 2024 G14 for two weeks now, been loving it!!
how is the fan noise my man ?
@@nasula Not too bad, especially when doing non-intensive tasks. I also plan to play around with fan profiles/power limits though to improve things
Also I'm not too sure what people meant about it being a high pitched sound
How's the battery life on this thing? I plan on picking one up this summer as my current laptop is on its last legs. Do you think this would be a good laptop for an engineering student? Id appreciate your input, thank you.
@@edgarmartinez4165 I think it will be great for you. I haven't gotten to test it with optimal battery settings yet, but I've heard you can get up to around 9 hours with the integrated GPU and lowered CPU power limits. Battery life and performance drops of though of course when using it on battery.
great vid Mark!
Hey Mark!
G16 (2450e) or Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 (2300e) ?
They both have the same specs 4060, 32gb/1tb, Ultra 9. The Yoga has the 3.2k touch Mini-LED.
I would mainly use it for music production. I don't game.
I already ordered the Yoga (might still be able to cancel), since I heard its much quieter than the G16 with 3 fans, but heard that there might be a fix for the G16 noise.
I love the design of the G16, but figured the Yoga was the safer option because of less fan noise, heat, brighter screen (blacks almost as good as OLED.)
I now you haven't reviewed the Yoga yet, but I would still love to hear your opinion.
Thanks!
That Yoga is gonna be solid for what you’ll use it for and you might enjoy using that touch screen which G16 doesn’t have. The G16 does feel more of a proper laptop and much better sounding speakers. But if you use headphones or monitors you’ll be fine haha
Hi Mark, great video, two questions: 1. Was the G14's fan noisy, did it get very hot? 2. Blade 14 (2023) vs the G14? which one you think makes more sense? similar pricing...
Hey there! Thanks so much. G14 at Turbo Mode can get loud but seems fairly normal for a laptop with these specs. I think if you care about upgrading RAM/SSD, then the Blade for sure. They are quite similar, but I think G14 is worth it for the OLED display, speakers, and their software isn’t as heavy as Razer’s out of the box with Armoury Crate. Plus you can still upgrade SSD. Just not the RAM.
similar pricing it's a tough call, the upgradable memory of the razer is tempting, but usually the G14 is much cheaper which makes that non important
Great video as always Mark! If they're as good for gaming would you say these are good for music production?
Yeah, these can handle those tasks just fine with ease. These two actually come with "studio-ready" drivers out of the box which means it's more for creatives vs gamers, but obviously, you've seen how good the performance is on these two by watching the B-Roll I overlayed.
@@HeyMarkL that's cool! appreciate you boss.
Not the same but I can say I've done a bit of video editing on mine and it's been great!
When you actually look at the wattage specs on the gpu for the g16 4080, does it say 115W or 125W because i have seen both appear on the same laptop for different people which is confusing me.
Thinking on getting the G14, though I am relatively new to the computer tech/specs world. So I maybe be juggling myself between this and the Razer Blade 15 or Lenovo Legion.
Mostly concerning the storage (a 1TB s my primary goal, and maybe there are two ssd slots), rtx, good performance and 16/32 ram.
Razer is expensive but build quality is nice and upgradable RAM+SSD, Legion and G14 is similar but prefer the pricing and design/hardware of G14 better. Would recommend getting 32GB/1TB like mine and upgrade SSD later on if you need it.
@@HeyMarkL what legion are you guys talking about?))) closest Legion to this one is Slim 5 14,5 OLED from 2023^ and it has 4060 maxed
@@Promikes The new 2024 7i version (white), might be close.
DO NOT BUY RAZER!!! They have amazing built quality but it's the worst when it comes to reliability. Also the battery life is horrendous and gets worse with use.
Hello. Quick question. Do you think they'll release a G14 with a 5070 in it in the near future? Planning to buy one soon, but if the 50-series is just over the horizon, then I'd rather wait for the G14 variant with 5070 instead.
Good video btw! TIA 😊
Hey there! I think we’ll see that closer to January of next year if I’m being honest. Don’t think they’ll release 50 series GPU until NVIDIA releases them.
Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏼
I’ve been looking at buying a MacBook for productivity (video editing, audio and 3d softwares) for some time now, and I only just found out these things exist, whats the comparison between these two laptops? Does one perform better than the others? It’s pretty hard to find comparisons between Apple and Windows hardware that’s easy to understand. Thanks for the help.
MacBook beats any windows laptop in terms of battery and productivity. Only reason to take windows laptops are for gaming or windows related tasks
@@kay8927 yeah there is a suite of apps I like that are windows only, at the moment at least. Thanks for the help though!
thanks for sharing.... is this OLED screen better than the Galaxybook 3 and 4 Pro?
Can’t say if it’s necessarily better since I’ve only seen Glaxybooks in person twice and can’t judge it without really testing it. But the OLED on these G14/G16 laptops are beautiful and they actually worked with Samsung for these panels.
@@HeyMarkL this is true....just picked one up to see.... Your right the screen looks very good. I NEED at least 15 to 16 inch though....if your not Andie hard 14 inch user this size may be too small for some.
Hey why did you prefer more to game on ghe g14 vs g16? I didn't quite got that part ! Thxs
I’m debating on one of these laptops for gaming and school work. Can’t decide on what one if I get the 16 inch I would only get a 4080.
There was a report that the performance on the g16 was unpredictable and inconsistent. Sometimes games would run at full capacity and other times Armoury Crate and Intel would fight with each other for resources? Has this been patched, and did you experience anything like this?
Not that I'm aware of and will reach out to Asus to see if they're planning on patching this soon. I personally have never noticed a lot of inconsistencies, but that doesn't mean it's not true. I do hope that it's something they'll patch soon via Armoury Crate and a Windows update.
This is true
Hi, I want to get myself a gaming laptop. Looking towards this laptop Zephyrus G16, but I didn't like the fact that it has a cut-down graphics card that only uses 115 TGP. Maybe I should take Legion pro 7, if I want my laptop to be relevant for another 3 years and that would be to me as my main computer ? What do you think or what other laptop can you recommend ?
I’ll be reviewing the Legion Pro 7i soon on the channel. Just have other videos queued up and need to work on but G16 4090 is great and can easily last the 3-5 years of usage. Same goes for the Lenovo. Both will have its pros and cons.
You should get the 2023 version of the G14 with a 4060 and ACTUAL upgradable RAM, no OLED screen though.
Hi mark. please suggest me. I really like this laptop but concerned about the oled panel as i want to use the laptop for 5 years atleast. will oled last that long? specially if i do heavy gaming on it?
Can’t say for certain how it’ll be in year 5 but ASUS does have “OLED Care” software which helps with this issue but still, I’m positive we can’t completely avoid burn in. You’ll be okay doing heavy gaming on this for at least a few years if you go for a higher tier version.
For one thing I've been using my Galaxy S7 with an oled screen for over 5 years now and I've yet to notice any burn in.
I have to travel a lot and would like to get either the Zephyr G14 or G16. Is the G16 portable or should I rather get the 14, since I have to travel a lot?
G16 is probably the most 'portable' 16" gaming laptop in the market currently. Provides really good power, and a thin chassis. I think you'll be very happy with the G14 though if you're looking for maximum portability.
Not a gamer , but hoping to run some engineering/architecture programs. Trying to decide between G16 RTX4070 Ultra7 vs G16 RTX4080 Ultra 9 ?? . Aware of the fan differences and wondering if it is such of a big deal to take into consideration when deciding which one to go for
I think you’ll find the 4070 to be enough… but I’ll tell you now, wait til after Computex which is later this month. There might be something you’d want to wait for instead.
Just go for 4080. No annoying fan noise and better performance
hope this has a version with the CAMM2 ram
I really liked the ROG G14 OLED when I tried it.
Not sure if you tried it with gaming, but it makes games look so vibrant and poppy. Love the OLED on these two.
@@HeyMarkL I did not get a chance to install Steam and try out some games. I bought it to replace my m2 Macbook air 13.6 but I did not like the bulky charger and I use it on my chest in bed and the warmness when charging bothered me. I still have a 15.6" 2020 Razer OLED Rtx 2027 for travel and my vacation home and that still is okay, and I was breaking that out alot in bed instead of my macbook air for the OLED enjoyment. the macbook air always looked washed out to me. i also have oled desktop monitor for gaming and work. I wound up going with the macbook pro m3 pro 14" and the miniLED is good enough along with the other nice upgrades from the air. I do have my eye on the G14 or G16 OLED to replace my Razer Blade OLED soon though. I like the lightness for travel and the sound and keyboards are much better than my Razer Blade.
is oled safe for long term use? Like 5 years? I don't think so. specially if you do gaming on it
@@giushuddin-dw7bg If it doesn't last that long then why do you think people still buy OLED? Worrying about issues that have long been mitigated.
Is the fan noise of G16 so loud that it can affect music production ? I am looking for a laptop for production but afraid of the fan noise. Though i will use a good pair of headphones but, i really want to know about the fan noise. Or should i go for MacBook pro 16" M3 pro ?
If you solely care about music production, I would personally look elsewhere. Not that the G16 is a bad choice but what you get for the price, it's a lot of wasted potential. If you do other things on the side like video editing, the G16 could be a great pick. I would go Macbook Pro or a different Windows laptop more aimed at CPU performance. Better battery life and CPU performance on the Mac. If you need one sooner than later, you can get a M1 or M2 on sale. You won't notice a performance difference with the M3. With the MacBook, you get performance you pay for. On the G16, you will have parts like the GPU that go untouched. The fan should never be much of a worry unless you do a high demanding workload.
Go for 16” M3 Pro for music production. Have lots of friends in Nashville who produce music for a living and they can get away with an M1 Air or Mac Mini for their production.
do you think that the g14 4060 2024 16 gigs will be good enough to last about 5 years of coding and gaming? the higher price of the 4070 with 32 gigs of ram is out of my budget and the 4060 version of the 2024 g14 is on sale on best buy for $1350 which seems like a good deal? Do you think that its a good deal? Great video though!
If you think of long term bro, Go for 32 gigs.
Back then 8-16 gb of ram is enough to play games but right now even 16 gb starts to struggle sometimes.
The more features and tech developed, the more ram we need.
In 5 years, everything would be more advanced and I’m pretty sure 16 gb is not a smart choice.
Save a abit more, take your time and choose the best one for you. Don’t rush.
The laptop you buy will expand your limits in the long term.
ive asked about 2-3 other people and they said it should be fine including some CZcamsrs @@htinlinko-830The thing is ik 32 gigs is better for the longterm but the price is way higher and it took me some time to save and I need a laptop pretty soon so I just think this looks like the best option overall
I have to buy a laptop in a couple of days and I don't really have time to save any more money. Also I have been gaming just fine on 8 gigs of ram for like 3 years. The games I play are not hard to run at all. I don't play triple a titles at all. 16 gb for me is all I would need for a while.@@htinlinko-830

does it worth waiting for next year gen and getting those for half the price?
I will do just that, these laptops are amazing but they're too expensive and still have some firmware bugs, by next year they should be discounted and fixed like the older models are now.
You can definitely wait 6-ish to 8 months till they announce the new ones. Most likely, local retailers will have these current gen on sale by then. BUT, you can also wait for the new one and get something that you think will suit your needs better.
@@HeyMarkL I bought the 6700s 2022 version at the end of 2023, got it for 1k USD with upgraded ram to 40gb and 2tb SSD, I use to work mostly, but the few 2024 games I tested in there work perfectly fine. Good to game on the go
finally someone really talk abt the ssd upgradability
Hi, I have a question about the G16, I was looking into getting the 4070 model which retails for £2599 in the UK. How does the 4070 feel with the 240hz display in comparison with the G14s 120hz?
Mark, as someone who's tried both Legion 7i Gen9 and Zephyrus G16 (2024), I want to ask you: Have you actually had the chance to use both before coming to the conclusion that this is the closest thing to Macbooks?
Yep! I was able to use the Legion 7i Gen9 (2024) I think it was a month ago but only for about a week and there's some things I liked about that laptop (port placement and selection), but ultimately found the G16 to be more sleek, more modern looking, less gamer-y which is a plus for me, and it doesn't feel like a brick when carrying it around... The G16 also goes up to 4090, I believe the new Legion 7i Gen 9 tops at 4070? , But the big thing for me was OLED. The Nebula Display standard is dope and really think adds to the overall value of the laptop.
@@HeyMarkL Makes sense, apologies I totally gave the wrong model, I meant the new Yoga i9 2024 with the miniLED and 1200 nits of brightness, but I don’t think other than the display it’ll be much different to the Legion series
Haven’t tried the 9i unfortunately, but hopefully I can get my hands on that! Could sway me to that though if it’s as good as the spec sheet but it’ll depend on hardware, design and overall performance.
How was the heat? I had the G16 4070 and it was too much. Thinking of grabbing the 4080 version because it has a better cooling system.
The 4090 G16 fans gets pretty loud especially in Turbo mode but don’t feel the heat when playing M&K with laptop’s keys. It will get warm but like not Razer Blade warm.
The 4080 is the heat and power sweet spot, but the pricing is very high
@@houssamalucad753 yeah i am feeling the same way since it also has 32 gb, but just joshs review about the fan noise alarms me.
Was it that bad ? I’m thinking about 4060.
@michaozga7825 Hey, so I ended up returning it and grabbing it again (cause of the sale) and I think the one I had was having issues. This one hasn't gotten that bad.
which did u like between 14 and 16 inch for gaming?
16 inch is better for the screen, but the 14 inch is better for portability and comfort in hands.
Which laptop has the better CPU perfomance wise?
Performance wise, the one on G16, but I’d wait for a few more weeks
isn’t there any way to tighten the hinge yourself?
I opened it up, I don’t believe so. Something Asus definitely needs to work on
im confused between ASUS ROG Strix G18 (2023) i9 13980hx and this laptop....i have more emphasis on engineering programs,ai training,etc.....what is better?....on other hand i want oled but worried about burn in and but also want 18inch screen.....and i need upgradability...which is in strix g18...which is better?
If the Strix has upgradable RAM, then it's obviously going to win by a mile.
For those who do not understand the reason for the micro sd card port, it's not that you can just use a dongle to read any card, but it's a cheap way to add storage to the laptop. Some 1 TB micro sd cards can sell for about $65, so in a way, it converts the laptop from 1 TB to 2 TB albeit one is the ssd.
Is the G16 sharp enough with its 2K display? Will it be as pixelated as a 1080p 15" or so?
2.5K and it’s plenty sharp. I’m not super close to the laptop screen but it’s definitely more than enough for gaming or content creation.
@@HeyMarkL Thanks! If texts and the likes aren't pixelated at avg views, then it should be sharp enough! Was worried 2.5K won't be enough for a 16".
@@Oluwademiladeak 2.5K is borderline, and I expect some people will notice. That is due to the pixel arrangement of OLEDs, meaning that compared to IPS panels, they are less sharp if they have the same resolution. 2.5K is deemed "retina" for IPS, so 3K is probably retina for OLED, which is why many premium machines now start there.
Can you review the 2024 Lenovo Yoga pro 9i?
Will do my best to get it in the studio 🙏🏼
I would like to see a comparison between the Yoga Pro 9i and G16.
According to the reviews, both are great laptops for creators with portable and sturdy chassis and amazing speakers. Yoga Pro has a MiniLED screen that is better for outdoor usage, while G16 has better colors and deeper blacks. Both have great but different keyboards: Yoga Pro has a proper numpad with Home, End, PgUp, PgDwn keys at the proper location (unlike most other laptops with a numpad), while G16 has a centered keyboard without a numpad.
Whats the model number of the g16? I tried to find it on asus website but i can't find the oled variant. 😢
GU605MZ-XS96, GU605MY-XS96, GU605MZ-G16.U94080, or GU605MY-G16.U94090
There is no OLED "variant". All the 2024 models come with it.

Completely different devices. iPadOS is vastly under-supported. If you draw and or don't do anything with programming/AI/Engineering/Gaming etc and are in a field of Art or Medicine, then iPad all the way. The 4060 model comes with 16 gigs, the 4070 model comes with 32.

would you suggest the 2024 razer blade 14 over the 2024 g14?
The G14 is the same laptop with all of the same cool features and design at a lower price, for a 4060/70 the extra wattage of the razer is useless, and the upgradable memory isn't a factor since you can get the 32gb version of the G14 for cheaper than any version of the razer.
I’m personally not a fan of the Blade 14 at its current state. While it has better TGP overall, thing gets quite hot and can be a brick to carry around and travel with. I believe the G14 is cheaper and a more well rounded laptop.

how are the thermals on the g14? especially compared to g14 2023?

It will get warm and fans will kick in but that’s normal for anything high intensive.
I really like this laptop but I heard it underperforms in gaming. And also I worry about the oled burn in
I think it does just fine in gaming, but seeing that there are other laptops that (weigh a bit more than these) perform better in gaming, it is a shame to see.
ive been debating on the 4060 16gb ram or the 4070 32 gb version. i know the ram is soldered on so obviously alot of people prefer the 32gb ram. i normally if not ever have editing software open while im gaming. i do stream and game at the same time though but 16gb ram is enough for me to do that.
idk if anyone has any feedback on this to sway me 1 direction or the other. as i am open to either side. im just 50/50 at the moment
i see marvel rivals requirement is 12gb of ram to run this game. so i think i answered my own question lol
I think just to be on the safer side, go for 32GB just because in the long run, it will help for future-proofing and who knows, you could be doing something else different down the road. 4070 is soooo worth it imo. Powerful enough for almost every new AAA titles.

500 nits on both.
Does it overheat while heavy gaming?
Yes, the G16 definitely does, started getting uncomfortable on my arms and hands resting on the keyboard. ON ROCKET LEAGUE, literally that is ridiculous.
Would you recommend the Lenovo legion slim 5 14.5" oled over the g14(it's around $1049 on best buy sometimes while the g14 is 1599) they almost have the same specs.. or should i splurge a bit more for the g14
Maybe splurge a bit the g14 is solid laptop and it great if you want to play games here and there 😊
G14 is absolutely worth it. Better speakers, better screen, and software is awesome.
Get the Lenovo. $1599 is way overpriced for Gsync and better speakers tbh. Lenovo outperforms the g14 because of its better cooling, has much better customer support, and the extended warranty is dirt cheap vs Asus. Just my opinion.
So you mostly use G14 but mostly game on G16? Could you please clarify a bit
Sorry for the confusion here... G14 was used nearly every single day *on the go*, whether it's for work or play. The G16 was 90% docked by my desk where I would game most nights. Does that make sense?
@@HeyMarkL Sure it is! I am so much in doubts to choose between G14 portability and G16 extra screen space... I need one laptop for evrything, games, travel, office and study.... Thanks for clarifications. In your case G16 was almost only for games machine

I’d say about 5.5-6 hours with some extra stuff open in the background.
had the g16 rtx 4080 variant, seen reviewers managed to get 8-9 hours of battery and I managed to get 2-3 hours from 80-10%. I've turned on all the power saving stuff, what worst I had my screen on 20% brightness but 100% oled flickering with a maximum CPU 30% power with dgpu disabled and it's still around those hours, can't even pump out a 6-7 hour result. Help me out.....
I've got the 4070 variant, you're not wrong.
The reviewers were either on super low settings or they're just bull, because the battery life is awful.
nice sound comparison
Glad you think so! Hoping to compare more windows laptops in the future. Stay tuned 👌🏼
I’m stuck between a g16 or a MacBook Pro. Help
Noob question: Will all of the 23/24 G14/16 models run RDR2 on max graphics easily?
If you can do DLSS on it then yes. The 40 series are great for DLSS and can run games 60+fps easy in max settings.
The big question, which laptop is the over-all best laptop G14 or G16?
Ooooh, tough one. But I’ll choose the G14 ONLY because I like a more portable setup and it has a 3K/120Hz display and RTX 4070 is more than capable for gaming and content creation.
@@HeyMarkL Thank you for this advice, I thought the G14 was too small for FPS games like many have said to me, but is it tho?
It is quite small for sure. That’s when you’ll appreciate the bigger 16” display more I will say.
As someone who's used to dealing with 13 inch and even a 11.6 inch laptop screen, they G14's screen is plenty large for me. I'd rather keep the portability and plug it into a monitor if I wanted anything larger
Do a comparison with Lenovo Yoga 9i Pro
Not sure if it'll have less noisy fans, but fingers crossed there's less screen wobble.
@@HeyMarkLim curious as well
Nice review.
I have the G16 with rtx 4060. For video editing it is great.
And beautiful laptop not heavy 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Compared to other 16”/17” laptops it’s much more lightweight for sure. How’s battery on 4060 version?
@@HeyMarkL I Can tell right now cause my PC is always plugged. I have to try and will tell you...
with Ultra 9 185H CPU?
@@ivayloivanov3744 yes 👍
Does a 4tb/8tb Ssd fit in the g14?
4TB SHOULD work. Not sure about 8TB. Depending on thickness of the SSD’s it should be okay.
ASUS has a limitation of 1TB on the 2023 G14 base; I have no idea about this year, but I assume the same. They say there could be issues above this, and I presume your warranty would be voided if it caused problems. People on forums have used 4TB but I would not recommend it, and suggest 2TB and hopefully no issues.
anybody could share its experience about fan noise? heating? battery life?
I have the G16, when plugged in and gaming the fans get somewhat loud, and it gets really hot, depending on the situation.
It had gotten so hot that I could feel it on the keyboard and it got uncomfortable, and the bottom of the laptop is so hot it would burn your legs if you was using it as a *lap*top.
The battery life for any Zephyrus with an Intel CPU is awful, on idle the thing would die pretty fast even when not doing anything, if you want one get one with a Ryzen.
I have an m3 max, and a fully spec'd out g14.
I find myself using the M3 Max around the house, mostly because the battery literally never dies, and the Apple trackpad is far superior to the g14. For productivity and developer work, Apple wins.
For travel, or any time I want remote access to a gaming rig, the g14 is a delightful swap out for the M3 Max. On the developer side, WSL provides me with a workable solution to missing Unix. On the productivity side, you have to flip a few switches to low, but battery life isn't terrible. Hell, even light gaming on battery is fine, with Valorant pulling something like 65-75 FPS on battery at full res / all settings.
The main issues are in Windows. I hate how I have to always be thinking about battery. I hate having to think about what "mode" my GPU is in. I hate having to swap resolutions, refresh rates, all of those things, to not have 2 hours of battery life on a brand new laptop. The M3 max GPU, which is roughly equivalent to a mobile 4070, has no such burden for the user. It just works. Windows should really focus on making shit that just works.
When using the M3 Max, I find myself missing the g14 screen. The colors really pop -- it's so sharp and vibrant. The G14 speakers are great, but the fans are super loud if you're gaming so you should probably be using headphones anyways. For productivity / youtube / netflix, the g14 is a joy of a laptop.
The g14 gets moderately hot while gaming. Nothing out of the ordinary here, and nothing that my M3 Max doesn't also do.
If you can only have one laptop, and you absolutely must game, the g14 is coming scary close to beating the macbook pro as my daily carry. What I see are almost all fixable, software problems with Windows + the Asus BIOS.
People who are buying this as an additional laptop for mobile gaming should seriously consider the ROG Ally X, and the Legion Go as well. While they exist in slightly different niches, for $700 they are super portable and capable.
Looks like the stock Windows XP background on those laptops :)
Found it on Reddit. More of a “modern take” to Windows XP wallpaper haha
underrated reviewer keep it up
Appreciate that. Thank you for tuning in!
Can i charge the flagship G16 with a 100W type C charger?
Yeah one port supports it, but if you’re playing games, that won’t be enough to give you full power. That goes for both G14/16
@@HeyMarkL Thank you for the clarification.
I dont understand why dont they release a ryzen powered g16?
Oh I bet they will eventually. This needs a Ryzen chip.
Anyone tried the G14 with After Effects + Davinci ?
Is G14 wobble like the G16?
A little bit. Both are sorta bad.
@@HeyMarkL thxs :)
we already have a macbook for windows, its the razer blade
True, I do love me some Razer laptops, but like MacBooks they're quite overpriced and sometimes their quality control can be quite bad, and will get really hot.
So nobody in there will talk about issues about warranty affair scam around Asus?
Battery life?
G14 Casual Use: 8-ish hours
G14 with RTX GPU: 2 hours with gaming
G14 with iGPU: 3.5 hours
G16 Casual Use: 7-ish hours
G16 with RTX GPU: 1.5 to 2 hours with gaming
Which one is better? G14 or g16? If you would buy
Tough decision. I do like the G16 but not a fan of the Intel chip here. Love what AMD’s been doing for a while. So I’d probably say G14
@@HeyMarkL tnx for your advise
@@HeyMarkL as I grasp you dont recommend g16?
Oh, I do. Just best to “wait for now” if ya catch my drift 🤫
These laptops are really great, but the price gouging asus is doing with them in Asian/European markets is ridiculous. Selling a 4070 for $3,000 USD without offering the 4080/4090 models (In asia) is a scam. Also I doubt people would have been as bothered by the soldered ram had asus just included a 64gb ram option, which in 2024 is shocking that they don't. Great review, but I was wondering what's the deal with the higher resolution screen on a lower powered 14" laptop compared to the 16", feels counterintuitive to me.
This was a non starter because of the lack of RAM expansion.
what about thermal?
Super solid on both to be honest. Given the lower TGP on the graphics side of things, it doesn't overheat or throttle at least from my testings.
@@HeyMarkL thank you for the reply.
I still probably opt for omen 14. Idk. But it slows down to make up for the cool system.
Totally agree on the SD card slot for the G14. I'm sad they didn't include a full size one. But besides that, it's honestly such a refreshing laptop that has replaced my MacBook Air.
I'm also excited to give Davinci Resolve 19 a try soon, too! Cheers!
Yep, or just give me an extra USB-C port there instead of a micro sd slot.
If they had touch screen and better battery they'd be perfect
actually wobbling ruins 16 inch version... no way to pay its price, and get this wobbling.
g14 is amazing so
The G14 isn't almost as good as the MacBook, it's better than a MacBook. It does everything and it does it better than any other 14" I have tested. Also I recently went from the 16GB which I used for 40 days to the 32GB and it seems ASUS is listening to the cons because the screen is tighter. The screen wobble on my new device is so marginal you can't even see it anymore, compared to the previous 16GB I was using. Also from testing both 14" and 16" you can tell there is a significant wobble with the bigger model. For some reason the G16 didn't feel like something that was portable enough for me and the battery life in some cases is half of what I can squeeze out of the G14 which is roughly 10 hours.
Don't want intel nuclear reactor on the 16" version. Waiting for amd strix point
👀 🤐
I have a surface laptop 4 and my speakers are ok it lacks bass. My iPhone sounds better when it's full volume.
lol yeah these are definitely going to sound 10x better than your laptop
Went to my Best Buy the other day: G14 speakers sounded better than the bigger brother G16. Checked both laptop settings in Dolby Access and they were the same, the G14 sounded richer and fuller.
I thought G16 sounded more full and boomy than G14 because of the bigger chassis. At full volume I can hear the difference too
Asus in general is the best. All of their laptops are excellent 👌
Just would say from design pov i liked transcend 14 more than these
Haven't tried that laptop, but hey, if you think that's true, then for sure. I love the design and performance on this G14.
after the warranty gamer Nexus did, asus is a no go and i have 5 gaming laptop off them no more
People commenting on the screen wobble must be the types to be on foot 99% of the time awake, or they're just overly dramatic. My only con is that my G16' cpu is idling at around 70 degrees on idle and around 85, sometimes even 90 degrees in Assassin's Creed Odyssey for example. I get that the 185H's max working temperature is up to 110 degrees, but come on..
If the next year (2025) model will have less noisy fans, less screen wobble and less scratchable led strip, it could be close to perfection.
too sad no black G14..........
🤣🤣🤣 We are comparing a Windows laptop to a............Mac laptop!!! 😅
dell's xps destroyed
X flow 16 2022 is better
legion is better, the oled screen is nice but not it could be harmful to your eyes
Look cool. Not that great though.
apple apple apple.....why dont you rename your channel to mark apple lisangan? half of your video is talking about macbook ffs
half my videos??? I mean, I only count 10 out of 200+ videos that are MacBook related. Why don't you just enjoy this video since more Windows-based laptops and handhelds are coming to the channel...
@@HeyMarkLactually I kinda get his point. I get that you are comparing to have a reference point but you are treating Macs as if they are heaven sent (without flaws). You say things like "good for Windows" "75% of a mac" that show your bias.
@@HeyMarkL I get his points, but I also get yours. M1 apple chips are really fast, and even faster when it comes to Pro and Max chips, but I think you should definitely upload more Windows laptop reviews to have more of a comparison point instead of comparing to Macs.
The only reason I keep comparing it to a Mac is because as a creative, I prefer Macs and price wise, these are quite comparable to M3 MacBooks/Pros. And as someone who is a big gamer, I prefer PC's over consoles. When it comes to the comment "good for Windows", I mean it in the nicest way possible that Windows laptops (no matter the OEM) have really crappy speakers and I've been able to test a lot of them, from MSI, to Microsoft, to Razer, and other ASUS laptops and I really love what Asus did here for the Zephyrus line this year. I just want to give people a reference point that MacBooks DO have great speakers and these are just as good, if not better.
@Ev_Alexander_Films Right, M1 is powerful, and it gets even faster when we get to the latest M3 Pro and Max chips, and I'll definitely have more Windows laptop reviews coming to the channel and will be able to reference and compare those to these laptops as a reference point. Appreciate all the feedback though!
