Overall it's a slim and light gaming laptop that's actually small and portable, what more can you ask for, the variant Jarrod reviewed costs $1449, so competitively priced.... Great for regular use.
@fifty YT Exactly and people still crib about lack of webcam on laptops, they are useless, a smartphone front camera is miles better in comparison

Lol i have never had an Intel
The next Cyrix
Yup. That's me.
Intel may be down now, but you can't assume the present situation is permanent. Hopefully they learn from the experience of being beaten for a while. When Intel and AMD are being highly competitive, that is best for consumers
Thankkssss! Finally! I've been waiting for this one and the tuf A
No problem!
Oooh now this is a laptop I can finally take on an aeroplane.....when flying becomes a thing again.
I want to know the same thing can it be charged with the 65 watt while gaming or how long will it last
â@@blackpanthertchallalem8522 If you buy this, I would advise you not to. The laptop is supposed to pull a certain amount of wattage during gaming and since you will be limiting its wattage input it could either be going back to battery while you are gaming (plugging itself in and out constantly), limit your FPS significantly, launch the game with the iGPU since it would be the only one satisfied with that power.
In my opinion, use a 65 Watt charger for simple and not so GPU demanding tasks.
@@johnh.3823 no, it'll likely just take the 65w and discharge while gaming. depends on settings though as for how itll act with charging
Haha, yeah upgrade time!

As always, top quality content. You never fail to deliver. Thanks.
Much appreciated!
I would love to see a comparison with a similarly specced G15, since the extra size may help with thermals and throttling and those two ASUS models are under my radar for a future purchase.
@Clorox Tree dont even need to OC for a 9980 to hit 90w, it just has to hit power limit before thermal limit and It'll go to 99w no problem
Me too, but alas, ASUS have not provided the G15 yet, not sure when it will be available.
@Clorox Tree yet the CPU gets to 90-s out of the box with no capability to undervolt. I'm not even sure you can change turbo ratio limits like you can on an Intel CPU

I wonder what the 4900H will do with that extra 10W TDP.
about an extra 10c Iâd guess.
The HS processors are supposed to be binned versions that hit the same performance levels, so I imagine it would just run hotter.
m.czcams.com/video/Y9JcW_LtXH8/video.html
200-300Mhz more under all-core load. The 4900HS appears to throttle back after 3-minutes of sustained load (after things like Cinebench already complete), and appears that it would have maintained 3.5.3-6Ghz with a 45W TDP. At 35W, it dips down closer to 3.3GHz. 10% sustained all-core performance gain on the H series vs HS.
Benchmarks of the 4800H under sustained load appear like it'll outperform any of the HS series. The 4900H may do slightly better, or it may pull back to the same speed as the 4800H under sustained load.
Itâll be faster than any current intel chip until 10th gen comes out probably
Thanks for testing silent mode, I bought asus zepherus M with 2060 from last year and 80% of the time i use it in silent mode for work and gaming and i love it! (I use cooling pad + turbo for VR as it helps a bit with frames) cpu and gpu boosts just not worth the noise, I see it is the same case here, absolutely love how it performs while been so quiet. Keep up the great work! :)

Now I just need to wait for corona to go and prices to dropđđ
I though corona makes them cheaper
@Super JLK What makes you think so?
Already seems like a decent price to me if you need CPU performance, compared to say more expensive thicker i9 đ
@Martin M thats not how it actually works. If people have less disposable income they will end up saving more, not spending. The reason why firms throw out deals is to increase sales and maintain some profit. I would think prices will be increasing since PC parts are becoming more and more scarce (since factories in China and other places are shutting down). but hey what do I know

Your videos are exceptional. They are so thorough. There is nothing else I would need to know. I only wish you had your response time software available when you did this review as I'd be curious to get your opinion. Your summary mentioned the form factor, but it's also the speakers. I have no idea why expensive laptops don't provide good speakers. Not everyone wants to game with something on their heads or in their ears all the time. Not to mention on silent mode watching videos this machine is probably excellent. Still deciding if I'll get one, but your video helped a lot.
You smashed it lad, well done!
Thanks!
This is literally has everything you could want from an 14 inch device adnd for the performance its at a fantastic price. I feel ghat for most people you can probably be just fine with a ryzen 7 rather than 9 and only need 16gb rather than 32gb. That will reduce the price even more and perform similar when it comes to gaming. I say if you are going to use the cpu alot and on heavy task then get the model he reviewed. This laptop is honestly great and better than what even intel can offer and 2 or even 3 tkmes the price
Thank you jarod for taking the time to make this review I really appreciate the hard work you put into the video
Anthony Chavez how much does it cost
@@zayxkzakazeta-reborn749 idk but the one you can pre-order at Best buy is like $1450 USD
I like it, in some ways, but the gaming/stress CPU temps seem as if cooling is indeed an issue.
Which kinda surprises me, provided that during simultanous loads, CPU+GPU power consumption wouldn't surpass 100W. Now Razer has been putting 100W GPUs into their 15" thin and light Razer Blade laptops for a while now - they thermal throttle alright, but combined with the up-to-60W Intel CPU, they'd have to be able to dissipate 160W of heat at any moment. This laptop, which appears to have been built around cooling, struggles at 100W. I didn't think cooling was this hard.
Cheers!
@@ireminmon
I don't see the cooling problems. As far as I can see it was never throttling. The reason Jarrod was getting slightly better performance with better cooling is because that's a particular behavior of AMD boosting algorithm. Instead of having a single max temperature where the CPU starts throttling, AMD boost has various point of inflection. So, for example if the CPU is running under 70ÂșC, it will boost more aggressively than if it's hitting 75ÂșC, even though it's not throttling. The boost has like three different points of inflection in the temperature lather which gives the temp management more granularity than Intel CPUs which have a single max temp point. AMD desktop CPUs behave like that too, though it's not as noticeable since cooling is generally better in desktop compared to laptops.

@@JarrodsTech man part of me really wants this chip to be incorporated to the top end of what intel has to offer. I can't imagine what battery life and thermals can do for the 4900HS under the same chassis as the GS66 with a 99whr.

liked your review . actually i was planing to buy MAG 15 but now I'm having big confusion which one i ll go for it , could you please compare both laptops - Screen quality , performance etc ... thank you
I'm having the same problem too. I'm still thinking of going for the MAG because of the 2070 Max-Q with 115W, because in the end, it's the GPU that limits gaming performance, not the crazy CPU.
In saying that, the build quality, battery life, and overall of this laptop is insane for the price. If only it had Thunderbolt 3 so I could use another GPU besides the 2060, then this would be an insta-buy
Ahkam Nihardeen actually cpu is bottleneck, i7 9750h runs way too hot
Thanks, hope it was useful!
@@assizetech9059 The i7 does act as the bottleneck, but even so the gaming performance is still higher because of the GPU. I'm personally going to wait for laptops that feature the 4900HS/4900H + Thunderbolt 3 so I can provide my own GPU

No problem, hope the info was useful I wasn't sure how in depth to go
@@JarrodsTech As someone who is interested in running Linux on my laptops, I find the information very useful. There are cases where trackpads and other components don't work well. As a suggestion, I recommend that you load Pop OS on the laptops instead of Ubuntu. Basically, it's the exact same thing, but they preload the Nvidia drivers so you won't have to boot into safe graphics mode and tweak things around. Nvidia drivers are always tricky to get working on linux, and loading Pop OS will hopefully make things easier for you and give your audience more info about Linux support. Jarrod I canât even express how I am excited about your review. đ
Haha hope you enjoyed it!
The copper âheat shieldâ on the bottom panel is there as a heat spreader. Your thermal image shows it doing its job well. Thank you for this thorough review.
Yeah I thought that, but at the same time I wonder if it wasn't there, how much would really pass through all in the center vs the whole bottom heating up more evenly?
@@JarrodsTech, a quick look on McMaster-Carr (industrial supplier in the US) shows the thickest copper tape to be 0.0035" or 0.09 mm. Despite the added thermal resistance of the tape, and it's adhesive*, the spreading effect reduces the thermal density from the ~9 cm^2 each of the CPU & GPU blocks. Magnesium has ~3/4ths the thermal conductivity of aluminium/aluminum, which in itself is about half that of copper.
The only way they could maybe do it better would be to use a graphite like [Panasonic's] PGS, but for the size, the costs would be more for the latter by a significant margin.
Side note that I forgot about. You noticed that 8-10 °C difference between the sticker and chassis in your thermal image? That is because the emissivity of the sticker is much closer to the nominal 96-98% the microbolometer is calibrated for in software. When you do additional thermal imaging of laptops with metal chassis, put a bit of masking tape on the hot area to see what the actual temperature, else you're under reporting.
If you re-ran the test and imaged it again without that spreader, I would expect to see ~70 °C right above the CPU & GPU assuming both are stressed. Probably more trouble than it's worth.
When is this released because iâm very interested in it for my freshman year of college thatâs coming up. I could game, make youtube videos, and do all my school work on one device

I just have thought "Yeah, i'll put it on performance mode"
*Hear the fan*
Yeaaah.....I'll think about that...
The game you tested, is it set on 120hz ? it's 60 right ?
That's not what you actually hear though, it seems loud because of the mic, in reality its way less loud.
It indeed is loud on my Scar III 240 hz RTX 2070 So I think it will be loud here too
You cannot game with complete peace and no matter how well fans work none work good enough to be mute while gaming..........
I mean look at iMacs and their laptops they suck at gaming even with loud fans.
It's hard to get how it sounds across yeah as it depends on my mic, youtube compression, and your volume. I use the same settings so the volume is at least comparable between laptops I review if that helps. Not sure what you mean by the 120 vs 60 thing, I tested games at 120Hz, but this doesn't affect the FPS reported.

If we could unlock that 35W power limit like we can do with Intel chips, AMD's gonna break 2 things:
1. Cinebench
2. Intel
But AMD cannot have intel exclusives like QuickSync which makes DaVici resolve a breeze hope they make something similar to it (I am not an intel fanboy)
@@ca9inec0mic58 I'm just looking at the positives of an AMD powered laptop. I never imagined that we could get i9 tier performance on a thin and light chassis which weighs just around 1.7 kg. My office laptop HP Probook is another 14 incher at the same weight, is light years slower with i7 8550U and an integrated GPU. And the 4900HS is not even trying and is delivering i9 level performance at 35 Watts - imagine what will happen if Asus puts the same chip in its bigger Scar chassis and lets the horses run free with the standard 70W limit it allows for the current 9th gen parts. And if they slip in one with an unlocked multiplier, even Cinebench will break, let alone Intel.
It's not hard limit. 4900HS gets 65W for few seconds and if full load continues limit drops to 55W. It stays there until cpu reaches 90C(takes couple minutes) and then starts to slide towards 35W preserving 90C thermal cap. Clock speeds at each limit are ~4GHz@65W, ~3.7GHz@55W and ~3.3GHz@35W. Power figures and clock speeds aren't fixed, thermals have significant influence on them as boost algorithm tries to extract additional performance before cooling system gets saturated. It takes about 3 minutes of full load to drop down to 35W limit. This is how Asus G14 works, different laptop with different cooling capacity can have different boosting profile. Weaker cooling with less thermal buffer certainly reduces time on boost.
Intel chips do similar thing, they aren't capped at 45W or whatever TDP they have.
@@kognak6640 Intel too dynamically changes its power limits through it's so called 'DPTF', famously known as cancer software by many. But the point that I'm asking is, when Jarrod says at the same 35W power draw, adding more cooling is able to increase the frequency by 100-150 MHz, which I don't think is the case with Intel chips - an Intel CPU running at 60C seems to run at almost the same speed at 90C as well - if there's a drop in frequency, the power drops to match it. But that's not the case with AMD as, with increasing temperatures, the power doesn't drop even after drop in frequency I mean, the CPU's efficiency (clock vs temperature) on Intel is not as affected as AMD is.
Yeah that would be fun to tweak đ€€
Canât wait for your tuf a15 review sir đ hopefully you can get it sooner already
Hope it comes soon!!
Finally it's out, thanks Jarrod đ
No problem đ
So basically this is the best cpu in the market.
No it's not it final form there the 45 watt one
It's looking like it, and it's not even the H version!
@@JarrodsTech What if they slip in an unlocked multiplier variant of 4900H? That's surely gonna one shot intel.
@@gamersanditparadise I think AMD new that Intel will immediately after them release new mobile 10gen, and I'm sure that AMD already have something prepared that will destroy and humiliate Intel even more after this. Can't wait to see how will everything move in the rest of the year! :D
@@drfleka Yeah. Intel will now be pressurized to bring 10nm quickly by the starting of 2021. It was Intel being super lazy, so much that Intel became the heir and AMD became the tortoise - resemblance is pretty much there.
Finally.. after 365 years waiting..
lol
dudeeeeeee, i cannot wait for this, perfect laptop for school/college

Thought I only got to see one amd mobile 4000 review today. But this just come out.
THANK YOU BROO!! MUCH LOVE!!
No problem! Hope it was good!
The King is Dead : Intel
Long Live the King: AMD
in laptops? i dont think so mate ;)

@@fiorathegrandduelist4444 The fact that it is cheaper, more powerful, consumes less power and produces less heat, is a total NO BRAINER for Gaming Laptop manufacturers.
@@fiorathegrandduelist4444 what do u mean in laptops?
did u wtach the review or not?
@@Radhaugo108 Apparently, the no brainer is just go Intel anyway. Since AMD laptops hardly exist.
This thing is so close to the i9, imagine the 4900H in a bigger laptop, ya intel are done for
Close to the LAST-GEN i9.
@@WeatherxCalipha with 2x less power draw and a much thiner and lighter 14inc model, the upcoming new 10th gen intel is still on 14nm so nothing will change in terms of efficiency
@@WeatherxCalipha yeah @noName yet is right
Agni Bhattacharyya even on this laptop as the temp isn't that high
I have a video in a couple days comparing the i9-9980HK at 90W đ the results are interesting to say the least.
seriously!! This review is AWESOME!!!!!
Glad you liked it
Nice review, people must learn... This is how a review video should be
i just.... dont get the point of the one finger test.
who... opens a hefty investment laptop with.... one finger
It's a good way to demonstrate the balance of a laptop. Otherwise you'll experience issues while using it in your lap. Being all tippy and what not.
Opening with one finger tests the wight distribution..
If a laptop can be opened with one finger, it is well wight-distributed.
n!tromy It FEELS good, try it with any Macbook :)
