- On the campus of Mt Saint Mary’s College sits an amazing house that has been a part of our cities history since the late 1800s. Oil pioneer Edward Doheny moved into the Doheny mansion in 1901. The mansion has some amazing features including the Pompeian Room complete with glass dome by Louis Tiffany, pillars of Siena marble and a bronzed gold-leaf frieze.

I remember Sister Eileen Marie. She taught history to me in one of the living rooms in the big houses. We had classrooms in bedrooms and living rooms. At that time in 1965 thru 1967 it was an all girls school. Wonderful memories😇
Wow.
My family lived very near this mansion in late 1940’s Thur the 1950’s (on Hope Street), in a big house my grandmother owned. Sadly house was demolished to make way for DMV parking lot. My mother would walk me to 1st grade (1954) at St Vincent’s Church/ school. The neighborhood was so charming, Exposition Park, the museum all right there. This is why I LOVE L.A!
I love the way Huell takes charge in such a charming way, wandering around with his host trailing...
I graduated from this campus in 1967 With Cardinal Mc Intyre presiding over the ceremony. Four freshman including me snuck into the Doheny Mansion at midnight. It was a convent at that time. The Mansion was of course off limits. I have many wonderful memories of this beautiful campus and of the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet.
That is an amazing story, wow.
I've been lucky to work in this mansions for the last 24 years... I got to know most of the CSJ sisters and Sr. Eileen Marie was one of them. Now is Mount St. Mary's University
A lot of times I'll find a Huell that at first appears to be about a subject I have no interest in turns out to be very interesting. Such as this one. Huell brings out the human-interest angle very well and you end up wanting to find out more about the place or subject. That was his knack.
I miss Heull Howser!
Jeff Long So do my husband and I. No one quite like him or his show. We never missed it.
Me too

You could probably never build this house with all the nice wood and windows because of the Materials in man building it to the talents of it very nice house amazing

YOU SHOULD BE WEARING THE HABIT!
The guy keeps cutting her off!
So cute😊
Teachers do not ‘give’ A’s; students either earn an A, or they do not.
It kind of bothers me that dude keeps interrupting her.
A drinking game; Take a drink every time Huell says "Oh me gosh". . . .S M H . . . .

Anyone know what year this was made?
Vaynites 2 years ago
@@vickiladu6755 I mean the film itself. Huell Howser died in 2013.
From what I can gather based on the episode, it was made in 2000.
Doheny's 2nd wife died in 1935... just how old is the nun that Huell spoke to about Mrs. Doheny?
It was Edward L. Dohney that passed away in 1935. His second wife passed away in 1958.
I don't think he does it on purpose, but he keeps on interrupting her!
Huell was so impressed with California, he could hardly contain his enthusiasm. He was born in Tennessee and when he got his first look at California, I imagine he was hooked. I LOVE his down home southern charm. I am a native of this area and as such I can relate. So much to see and explore.
Yeah. and who's show is it?
He has to keep the program to a timeline.
The Dohenys were so unkind & stingy in their servants' bedroom accomodations. 3-4 servants slept in a tiny room on very narrow beds. There was just room for the beds and maybe one small dresser in each room.
I was appalled.
Huell howser was a badass mofo.

Pretty petty of the professor to cheat her student out of an A 89.5 % = A-
ShakespeareCafe It must be great that you’re able to divine what the professor based her decision on to not award an A-minus. No mention was made in this video of the student’s attendance, class participation, timeliness in completing assignments, subject mastery et alii. Just pettiness.
Teachers do not ‘give’ or ‘cheat’ their students an A; the student either earns an A or they do not.
Make him shut up, please !!!🙄
Sincerelyyoursable ikr? Loud too.
That's Huell Howser. He has passed away, but in is own style, he brought a lot of Ca. most interesting sites. He was on PBS.
This guy needs to be told that you don’t touch a nun who’s in her habit without her permission. At 17:05 and 20:00 and he paws her a couple of times at the end.
I notice how close he was to the student's breast in the opening scene as he was talking and moving his hands.
Amy, he was a known active Homosexual... he probably didn't mean any harm
Hes a country boy and gay
Perhaps I’m wrong, but I don’t believe he ever openly acknowledged if he was gay. If he was, he was private about it.
