Yes! The walking! On a holiday in Paris 10 years ago I was a little overweight, I indulged in French bread, croque monsiers, Crossaints, steak and salads, good quality foods and LOST weight from the walking. It really is a different lifestyle that counts!

I believe an important part of the classic look is the fit of your clothing. I’m short so I always have my clothes altered to fit me perfectly. This way I’m wearing my clothes, not my clothes wearing me 🥰💕😉

Love all of these recommendations. It’s true, I always feel better when I know I’m in my trusted classic style. In winter I adore a cashmere turtleneck sweater, nice jeans, heeled boots, hermes belt, and a nice handbag...it’s a great look almost for every occasion. As I get older, I realize the chic sophisticated simple look is more attractive than trying to be trendy and young. No thank you. I want to look classic and modern. Be confident and smile...everyone can be classy by making good choices with style.

I totally agree. I decided this year to redo my wardrobe since I didn’t do much the last two years with the pandemic. I went for all classic clothes mostly in black with gold accents but other neutrals as well. I concentrated on quality. I love it.

My go to is a scarf. Even dresses up a t-shirt. I only wear long sleeve Ts and push the sleeves up. No short sleeve Ts for me. I agree the simple classic is best. White shirts are the best all year round.

The classic that I wear that makes me feel instantly more chic is my watch. I have a really nice watch that I wear all the time. Instant elegance even with jeans and T-shirt.

My classic go to button up shirts are from the men's section. I do have a new Everlane silk buttoned up relaxed shirt, which fits nicely. But mostly the men's shirts are made so well and have more cotton, which I prefer natural fibers when practical. Also the buttons don't fall off. No person has ever noticed my button up shirts are men's.

Thanks for your inspiring videos. I have a structured navy coat that I love although it‘s old. I love the feel and the warmth of my cashmere sweaters, my pearl earrings and my pointed high heel boots. And I truly love button down shirts and simple blouses (but I hate to iron them).
You’re gorgeous and give great advice about dressing with style. Every woman should wake up and try to look the best she possibly can and that sets the tone for the day and can lift people out of depression and anxiety and many other things. That’s my advice.

I remember my aunt always wearing the white man tailored shirt, jeans and ballerinas. She was so so classy!!! Im currently getting back to classics, and updating my wardrobe (clearing out the cluttered closet and donating it). I have several of the pieces, but do want an updated belt. I love stripes 💙 My go to elegant classy item is my trusted navy dress. Modest neckline, kneehight, fitted to waist and then a line. My absolute go to every occasion from autumn to spring, heavy good quality fabric makes it too hot for most summer days though. But I think 8 months a year of using is a good amount

A large, light weight (or heavy for winter or if designed with tiny mirrors and embroidery) Indian shawl or scarf. This is always the finishing touch for any outfit, and often I need it -for a breezy day or cool environment. There are so many ways to drape them.

All your recommendations make a lot of sense.
Lately I am into oversized shirts and the ones I can wear with cufflinks. I buy the types with larger cuffs that can be converted by placing a buttonhole next to the cuff button. Then I automatically elevate the shirt to a much nicer look. I make my own cufflinks with old buttons and I think is very chick especially when I wear them with jeans. By the way in the past many men's business shirts had this possibility. 🥰❤🖐
I live just outside New Orleans where winter rarely lasts more than a week. I’ve had a navy trench coat for years but it only gets worn a few times a year. Still looks great. I wore a navy and white striped top yesterday and my dad immediately said, “You look so French. My parents lived in France when they first married.”

Such a lovely collection of beautiful classic items. One item I find really elevates my style is a pair of white wide leg linen pants. As long as they are well made and fitted correctly I find they look good on everywoman regardless of age, size or shape.
With white - it's the fit and quality that matters the most!
I love white blouses and t shirts. I have other colors and some printed pieces but I just seem to always wear white. Looks crisp and clean with everything.

Dominique, you are so right again! I have all of these items and the way I dress every day for work is that I choose first which one I want to wear, then I add the rest around it to make it work. With a wardrobe made of good quality and basic colors, there's so many possibilities, all casual chic. Nothing beats the mood of feeling great in your clothes to start the day!

Thank you, Frederique for all these great principles. I am American When I was in France in my 30s, I noticed how elegant the ladies looked. I realized they spent money on a few pieces of quality that they would wear over and over. You can always add a few things like white blouses, simple sweaters, a pair or two of jeans, a good haircut, scarves (I love them and have a nice collection now), etc I decided that method was fot me. It has been so satisfying adding one or two pieces per season to my basic wardrobe. It's very affordable. I have my little black dress from a sale a few years ago at Faconnable. It's so much fun to play around with different combinations. Wardrobe sorted, so there is more time for having fun, while always feeling ans looking good. 🥰🥰

Love your video! French classic basics is a must! I grew up wearing Nafnaf in the Philippines so i'm used to French style. But now I love all other French brands. Repetto is my preferred flats , super simple and comfy. Breton stripes and the classic whites elevates any look.

I feel really proud - I've got 8 out of 10 items from your list. I haven't got a military coat & a designer belt. And my structure bag is not a brand name either. Still it counts.
And I admit I wear a navy blue jacket much more often than a black one. Maybe because of my complexion. In winter when I'm paler the black colour makes me look a bit ill.
