Exploring the Utah desert has lead me to some incredible places the past few days, and in this episode we have reached the final destination. We will be spending several days looking for the primary target of this trip, and that is seeing a Chuckwalla lizard up close. There are certainly some surprises on this adventure, and the ending is better than we could have ever hoped for!

If you want to see Chuckwallas, check out Lucerne Valley,ca. They hide in the rock formations. Found them all the time back in the 90’s. Might still be there.

I live on the other side of the Mojave desert near Joshua Tree. To find a chuckwalla it’s best to get very close to the big rock/boulder piles and look in the cracks. As a defense they’ll puff themselves up so you can’t pull them out.
Yeah we were looking in crevices a fair bit while we walked around. It gives me something for next time!

I love the niche you put in all your videos….it’s not all about driving around beautiful places and gear. Went to college in SUU and studied biology and Zoology and always thought there is no better place to do so. Have been to the same conservation area many times on field studies, this was decades ago. A lot more deserts tortoise activity back then. Never have I ran across a Gila Monster 👿….you guys are lucky.

Chuckwallas all over there, you need to glass them and or look into the cracks. They see you first every time!
In the first episode I’m pretty sure I spotted one, I just couldn’t get it on camera.
But we did spend a ton of time looking g for them through binos. Gives me something to look forward to next time.
