    I installed one on mine at 100K, it made it 235k before the cylinders were too worn to rebuild. It was a blast, made awesome noises and was a great boost in power. My only advice is to replace the rear needle bearings around 75k. When they go bad, the rotors contact each other and spit death glitter into your engine. I just installed a new engine myself and sold the TRD/Magnuson supercharger. It was fun but I will not do it again. Remember, change your needle bearings every 75k or your engine will pay the ultimate price.

    28:13 Hey, that’s MY FJ! By the way, anyone considering the TRD/Magnuson supercharger should seriously consider doing the URD fuel pump/external fuel filter upgrade first as insurance for adequate fuel delivery and the ability to easily replace fuel filter when they get dirty.

    I put the Magnuson on my 2013 Fj just over a year ago and can confirm anyone with even moderate skills can do it themselves. No issues as yet and love the extra power which makes it much more drivable - it is pricey but if you have the $$ you will notice the benefit every time you drive

      @@FJX2000_Productions love my 2011 trd auto, need to shop out west for a clean manual when prices come down.
      There's already nothing else like it in its class, the 0-60 better and the wheelbase and these softer baja style red red shocks are just awesome, bought mine in a hurry after totalling a vehicle so I couldn't be out of pocket to shop for a manual, but a 6 speed with a supercharger, the the AWD with some 285 on modest tuneable suspension...my dream daily driver I already throw this thing into corners, going through the gears with more power and AWD is gonna be rad.
      Selling mine while it's appreciated and importing something I'll get paid to drive until prices come down.
      A tune is definitely the first mod before bolt ons, unless you calibrate MAF they really kill low end torque with the bolt ons you've outspent a 650.00 ECU at that point that on baseline before tune kills headrest exhaust and intake.
      Cheers.

    But as an additional note for this video, with huge power upgrades to the engine, one has to also consider other drivetrain components and how the increased HP and TQ will put strain on parts like axles and differentials that were never designed for that much strain. So commonly those who really push their equipment to the max should also look at regearing differentials and upgrading axles, perhaps even replacing the rear axle altogether.

    I love your very informative videos. And although there are many out there that don’t like when people go after market. In my opinion. The supercharger is not worth it. Yes it sounds nice and you get that slight increase of boost. But it’s not worth the money in my opinion. If I were to be looking for more horsepower the go to would be a LS swap. I love my FJ but I hate my V6. I plan on making a LS swap to my FJ to get that huge horsepower. And with the amount of money typically spent on these superchargers, the tuning, the labor etc and not only that! The amount of extra gas it’s going to use when fjs already drink so damn much gas doing a LS swap isn’t such a bad idea. Would love to see a video of fjs out there with V8 swaps!

    • @jamesp805
      @jamesp805 Před rokem

      taking reliable engine out to put a cheaper more powerful engine in that may not work well with the drivetrain and most likely increase weight is not for a "street" vehicle. note that the trd supercharged vehicles didn't effect the warrantee. i have had lightly modded, supercharged stock engine and full built turbo kits in my life and nothing was as reliable as just light mods. intake and cat back exhaust is as far as i would go on anything i want to last more than 5000 miles. just a heads up that ls swapped fj in the video had a full tube front end and was as built as a track oriented, off road race truck.

    • @Cowsrblack
      @Cowsrblack Před rokem

      @@jamesp805 those are my intentions. I’m not going to ls swap and solid axle my FJ to drive to church. My FJ is an absolute monster and that reliable engine you’re talking about is nearing the end of its life. I’m gonna say pretty ignorant of you to assume that someone who plans to ls swap is gonna use it for street use😂. And why would I use the same drive train? I’m planing on having double the horsepower. It wouldn’t even be able to take it let alone impossible to marry a Toyota trans to a ls and also expect the rear end to take that amount of torque and horsepower increase.

      @Cowsrblack Před rokem

    Nice video, thanks for all your videos they are very informative! As someone whose eagerly searching for that right 6spd 2010+ FJ, I do appreciate it.
    One thing however I wish would have been covered would be the fuel economy differences with a supercharged FJ, being now that it has better power to weight ratio, and also taking 91 octane fuel as opposed to 87.
    I know the FJ isn’t known for having great economy to begin with, but is a supercharger going to make it much worse is the question? This is something I’ve had trouble trying to find information on online and would appreciate anyone’s feedback who does have a supercharged FJ.

      just a heads up, when i acquired my fj, i t had a dragging front caliper and was getting 13.9 mpg for my first 3 tanks of fuel. after 2 front calipers, new rotors and pads im getting 16.8. (i run 93) as for super charged mpg, well you will get more miles per gallon if you baby the truck , but if you are counting smiles per gallon and lay into the pedal, you will have decreased mpg as you are spraying more fuel for those extra smiles! its worth noting that your mpg will vary greatly on how u drive and if you floor your stock v6 up to a red light every time you drive you will only get 13 ish mpg. my mileage stats are for normal driving with mixed 50/50 highway. some spirited throttle at times but still normal in my opinion.

    Some concerns when SC upgrading worth mentioning is FJ’s with 8” rear differentials will break teeth. The other is common cyl #6 (right bank, rear cyl) blowing the head gasket. I with my std 07 would like to hear if anyone with upgraded aspiration gets better MPG. I live in a state with rolling hills and at 80 mph my AT shifts down to maintain speed. If it had more HP it would stay in fifth and?? get better MPG?

    My 2015 Fj cruiser Australian Delivered version is already dangerous in anything remotely slippery. I toyed with the idea of either turboing or supercharging, but its already enough as it is. And im a power fan, I came from an Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo that i built up with over 400kws at the rear wheels, swearing id never buy another non turbo vehicle again. Also Wheel horsepower is the only horsepower you need to know, You dont take the wheels off it and race the bloody thing do you....
    But id like to say, the supercharger is a small upgrade, the real power with this motor comes from a power tune, larger injectors and bigger fuel pump. But you do this at the risk of reliability. Toyota do detune the engines a little for this very reason.
