Today I wanted to go over my recovery gear bag and kit, as I have put off this video for quite some time. I cover the very basics of what I am carrying inside the bag, in the back of the Toyota, and why. Lets dive into the some of my old, and new gear on my Toyota Fj Cruiser.

Good stuff! I'm gonna get some Sandy Cats shackles too. Some one used my bubba rope soft shackle on a snatch block with sharp edges. It didn't break, but many strands were cut through :(

Bout time someone actually said, "No Hi-lift jack." We don't use one either ... For multiple reasons. And you said "your going to get flack after you talked about tire size. Naaaaugh, not by folks that watch this channel. We run 33's on both our Jeeps and I think we are going to stay there. It's more fun... And I like having to use my recovery gear! "Wahooo! I finally get to use my winch." But you know what!?! We haven't use it on ours, it's been to help others so far ... And had I paid attention, it was probably to help people with bigger tires then us. Hahahaha. I'm only at 2:19 so let's go see what you got. We are all probably the same, with slight differences.... But this is great for the beginners. Great job

Great points! I'm learning some things now. Now I know that I need to buy this extra gear especially those boards. At first, I thought it was a board to medivac someone out who had gotten injured. Next thing , I will have to figure out how heavy I want the vehicle to be and where to store these items at. My vehicle burns way too much fuel.
Kudos on not dragging a useless High Lift Jack with you and admitting it. Bottle jack and a stack of 2x4 blocks FTW. Also, I once heard it said, "If traction boards got you out, you weren't actually stuck." I have been off-roading for about 25 years and never owned a set. Maybe I'm missing something.
I swear by Maxtrax myself. I could have gotten out using just the winch on those occasions, but it sure is a lot faster to just throw a board down and drive out.

About those maxtrax, I have the cheaper version. Hard plastic, nothing special. I've failed like 5 out of 7 recoveries with them. My tires can't grab them. The best use for them are as shovels for snow.
Yeah man, a good set of boards really is worth the extra money. But I do understand they are expensive, I paid full price for my Maxtrax and paid nothing for the budget boards I tested. The cheap stuff isnt worth carrying along.
