- We are overlanding our way across Oregon from East to West. Our five rig convoy of two Jeep Rubicons, one Jeep Gladiator, and Jeep Wrangler Sahara have made their way from Northeastern Oregon at Hells Canyon to the little Malheur River in Central Oregon. We are at least one day behind schedule in this episode, and we run into private land issues and more severe weather that puts on the wrong side of the desert as we make our way toward the Pacific Ocean. Ultimately we have to make a really hard decision..do we stay on dirt and keep building this route, or do we throw our hands up and take pavement to the Ocean...

I came to Venture2Roam in hopes if finding some good information about overlanding. What I found and really wasn't prepared for was incredible stories about family, parenting, marriage, friendship and everything else that goes along with adventuring with family and friends. We spent several summers traveling the US with our kids when they were young in our RV. Your videos bring back so many happy memories and the one thing you said in this movie series that stuck with me the most was your kids will tell these stories at thanksgiving dinners. You have no idea how true that is. We listen to our kids tell the stories of our adventures and it makes us so grateful for doing them. Thank you for making these, you have cracked the code on how to squeeze the most out of life and document it at the same time. As I was watching the end as you parked on sandy hill to watch the sunset, I couldn't help but think, everyone was mezmorized by the beauty. But one person was flying that drone so all the rest of us could enjoy it too. THANK YOU!

Good morning Everyone, what an amazing job on the video ! It’s crazy how plans don’t always work out… or how they actually do ! Turning one onto new sites, two sided adventures & relived memories ! So roll up your Bobby-socks & get your feet wet from time to time ! Nature has a way of reminding one to stop every now & then. Enjoy a Sunrise, or Sunset, the Wind in your Hair & when possible get out & Laugh a Smile… moooving & stretching the third leg.. Great Adventure & Keep Smiling !

Oh I’ve been out there… I must of gone through fifty fence gates… I saw pronghorns running across the road.. got stuck in a mud bog.. so crazy cool. I did that water crossing solo :)
Well you know how that road ends then...so frustrating..but also it was a bad route on my part...especially if we're going to share the route with others...because that area wouldn't handle increased traffic well. It's the most broken part of the route in my mind...but I love a good challenge, and really want to make a fun route to the Sarah Chambers gravesite...that was a story I didn't get to tell in this video because we had to bypass the site all together..it's absolutely beautiful country out there though!

As I watch this trip I say Next time take a week longer and stop and smell the sagebrush. At high speeds you miss the small things that make so many areas special. If you have to drive fast drive the interstate or highways. Trails and backroads need to be driven slowly and enjoyed. This is just were I come from. We just returned from a short trip to Maury Mts south east of Prineville, Oregon two nights three days and only one other rig each day. Many times we have come up a rural state highway and find a herd hundreds of cattle being moved down the highway to new pastures. You just set back and wait for the cowboys to motion you through the herd. I do love Oregon backcountry.
Great advice. And we did actually stop and smell the sagebrush…Oh we smelled plenty of sagebrush. There’s a lot I didn’t show because it’s boring to watch stop much slow stuff.

Wow such a great trip. It’s so great to see a trip like this. I’m also a father of 2 young kids. So seeing a real life experience is so refreshing. I like other channels for their hardcore do the trip at all cost. But for me personally I loved seeing you make hard decisions based off safety and knowing you have a family with you. Thank you for saying that. I value leading with humility, it's something I think is essential for overlanding since you have to be able to admit you're wrong a lot (or at least I do). But in the end...this is vacation, it's sight seeing..so any time I start taking myself too seriously, one of my friends brings me back to reality (Ryan's impersonation of me). I've said it before, but I love to see you Will get out with some great friends and family having fun. Clearly these trips don't come off without some frustrations, and I like that you don't totally try to hide that. But you persevered through it. Elsha, I have to say that your positive attitude is infectious, but the whole group seems to keep it on the bright side. Love it!

Florence was a gem. We grabbed some grub at Moes, got ice cream, and walked around town before getting our OHV permits to drive on the beach. Really cool town.

Loved the different style, we always love watching more live action talking etc vs more narration, those small town America stops are he best!!! Paisley looked really neat
Thanks..I'm trying to shoot more of the action on trips and do less voiceover..show instead of tell. Paisley was a gem of the trip..the guy at the gas station saved our bacon because he gave us updates on the trail and roads we were planning to take.

I grew up near the North Umpqua river, its lovely country and my uncle lived near Florence where your camping by the beach, been over that bridge a thousand times.
So cool to hear that. I grew up in Eastern Oregon and Idaho, so while I’ve been West many times, I’ve never done it like that. We loved the Florence area!
@@Venture2Roam I heard your wife say her grandparents had a place on the Umpqua so I assumed around Elkton or Scottsburg, not really many people along the main Umpqua at all, nice and unpopulated the way I like it.

Thank you! We're actually headed out this weekend to work on the route. Hoping to have it finished before the end of the year, but it's been hard to squeeze it in with all of our other trips. Can't wait to be able to share it though.

I sure don't feel the fatigue you had as you arrived the sunset on the beach... but I also don't quite feel the pure elation you do of landing at the beach at sunset time. WOW. Incredible. Great vid. Loved the series.

Such an incredible adventure! I'm sure routes like the one you're trying to establish take years to develop, so much trial and error. The decision to run to the beach was hard, but I agree... the right one.
There will be other opportunities to wrap up that route and I'm sure it will continuously evolve after... I can't wait to see the end result so we can run it too!

Astoria Oregon is absolutely beautiful. And Lewis and Clark Campground is a state park and I can’t tell you how beautiful that park is and how big it is. If I remember right, you can actually camp on the beach literally and you can drive on the beach for miles.
That's so cool. I love Astoria..haven't been there in many years. I didn't know you could camp on the beach there...I'll look into that!

Great trip! Great video. I wish you could have finished the trip off-road instead of taking the highway, but it was a long trip with some severe re-routes! I'd love to make a trip like that someday, especially with the end result like that. I would have jumped in the ocean during the sunset just to wash some of the dust off. Lol. Great series of videos!
Lol...same..I wish we could have done it right the first time..but it's all part of the adventure..and it gives me a reason to go back..the kids def wanted to jump in the ocean...until they got their feet wet and started shivering lol.

Ya - we're headed out this weekend to redo the Wallowa section...hoping to get it all done before the end of the year.
Some of the best times and beautiful things I have seen was where everyone else hadn’t been and we had to turn around….
I never used to think that way…but after this trip..I’m realizing that exploring an area means you’re going to hit dead ends..and if I just stop and appreciate the journey, it’s pretty great.

It was fun to see you show up on the sand. I own a 3acre camp ground on the Oregon Dunes south of Florence and want my trip to focus on that destination. leaving from my home in north central idaho
Good job, I find it very stressful leading a group and trying to satisfy everyone's expectations.
Arriving in Florence was amazing. That route was a ton of fun..but it was also not super easy to put together. Looking forward to making it available when it's done. And I agree, leading a group can be taxing. I love it, but I also love those trips when I get time to myself.

I have had the same experience, drive a long way on BLM roads in Central and Eastern Oregon and then come to a gate marked Private No Trespassing. Dead heading is a bummer.
It was a total bummer…but it’s all part of the adventure! It’s much easier to say that now.

Hey Will, how are you liking our weather? Hoping all is well for you. I read in the early comments that the coordinates/route you took will be finished, soon?. Any updates on that front? Might they be on your Patreons site? I would gladly go there to obtain thise coordinates. My wife and I are making the trip in August and would really appreciate not having to plan the route. Ive done smaller route planning and well, im not much of a fan of it. I know how much effort you had to have put in.......100 plus hours, ive no doubt. Ive watched this video more than once and im sure a couple more times between now and August. Keep it rubber side down......hope to see you on the trails.
I still need to re-run two sections of it…but I may publish parts of it before it’s complete.

Great videos! I have a question. As you guys were driving thru the central Cascades, one of the ladies mentioned going to see her grandparents on the north Umpqua> i was curious whereabouts they lived. I grew up in Roseburg hunting and fishing up the North Umpqua before moving elsewhere to make a living.
They lived right on the Umpqua river. When we finish the route, it will go right by it.
It' fun to watch people ogle at what we kinda take for granted. But then I'm headed for Idaho in October. Ooh! Ahh!

Tried to follow along from clues on OnX and Gaia, but I couldn't find any through trails, forest roads or mvum where you were. Guess I need more practice with the apps.
Ya I left a bunch of clues in the videos..but it's hard to follow because I made some mistakes initially. The section from Phillips lake to Burns needs the most attention right now..working on that one soon. Will share when it's all done.
I watch a lot of your guises channels, not yours, but also the people you ride with. do you guys ever give your locations to where you’re going and the locations that you stop at.
We don’t post coords. But there’s enough information in the vids to put the routes together. This route will be available once it’s complete as we’re made for that purpose.

lol...sometimes you just have to go for it. I actually used two different versions of the cold play song and spliced them together at a few different sections. It's actually not that bad because I use a licensing service that includes some charted music..but there are restrictions on how I can use it (why you don't see any sponsor stuff in these vids). Licensing info is in the description if you want to see the service I use.
Just an FYI, you keep saying "Central Oregon" (and I keep cringing, lol) your not in Central Oregon by any Oregonian's definition, you were in Southeast Oregon, we consider "Central Oregon" as around Bend, Madras, La Pine, Fossil and Prineville region. Enjoyed your trip, new subscriber.

That’s so funny. I grew up in Eastern Oregon and what you describe we’d call the western edge of central. SE to me is Alvord. Central to me starts at Burns and ends at Bend.
@@Venture2Roam That is odd I never met anyone call Burns Central Oregon and I have family in Joseph and close friends in Baker and in Ontario, its in the Eastern third of the state for sure if you drew equal lines of the state into thirds, but its all good. I love your videos, I am just a Karen when its comes to geography, lol.

This route isn't ready yet. It should be by the end of this year/beginning of next.
Not possible to drive off rd on Forest rds from east to west , china now owns most are private timber n lock gates n block rds we used to build this state .
There’s nothing wrong with a little pavement though. BDRs are the same..you go from dirt to pavement..but it’s primarily off road. This route will be similar. It is a shame though.
Someone recently told me that golden hour is for losers. I'm not sure what he meant by that.

What mapping system/app are you using?
We use all of them. I like Gaia the best..but use OnX and TrailsOfftoad too.
Get onX offroad, solves these issues
The map wasn’t the problem. I have OnX and Gaia has public/private layers too. It was a public road with a locked gate…but I should have known better than to try and route through any private lands.
