- Full on resin work this week! I cast a bowl blank using resin and pine firewood…and a pinecone or two, and turn a really nice looking bowl with a little extra going on inside...
The resin I used is Art’N Glow. Here’s a link if you’re interested: artnglow.refr.c...

please be careful with the epoxy resin, most resin's become toxic after being mixed and remain that way for three days, until full cure.i'm a boat builder in northern michigan, and i have burnt my lungs by working it to soon.remain well so you can keep making these beautiful projects
Dan, I really appreciate that, and I hope everyone reads your comment. I don't stress it in my videos but I should...Wearing an actual respirator is mandatory for health reasons when working with resin, and good airflow. Thank you very much!
Is this true? Damn. Yoi betyer be carefully working with it on the lathe then. Shit. I do alot of epoxt work too. Is it the one specific kind of epoxy? The boat epoxy? I know that one has fiberglass.....
@@FatNebraskaMom it's called systemic toxicity, liquid epoxy on your skin causes dermal contact. West System has a book on precautions
@@dandeforest9439 dude I will totally take it to heart. But I do know that there are different types of epoxy. Do u happen to know if they all cause this problem, or just the boat epoxy?
@@FatNebraskaMom the only epoxy i use is West System, i got my information from there saftey book.I would think that any other company by law , would have to publish there own info. you should be able to find it on there web site.I know epoxies affect many people in different ways.some work with it for years without any effect, others can't go anywhere near it.systemic toxicity is from being assorbed by your body, and build up over weeks ,months or years. but some may never be affected.hydrocarbon's can have the same effect.i'm not a doctor ,this is just what i have read and been told by my doctor.I have had only the one bad experence, but that was my own fault,by working it before full cure, and not enough ventelation .you should be able to look this up on web md or google, maybe even utube.
I'm one of those who don't ha e the talent for woodworking, or turning, but I have a great respect for the beautiful art you guys create. That's a beautiful bowl. Thanks for these.
Thanks very much! 😊 I'm glad you like it!
@Justin Bazzle Very few are born with talent, the rest of us have to learn it. Get into your shop and learn from your mistakes like the rest of us do. Don't expect to create a masterpiece in a day. Try a few different things until you find something that works, then expand on that.
Justin Bazzle I am the same although I am determined to have a go. These guys are another level but I imagine even the simplest of creations would be very rewarding. Have a go
Watching you work and listening to you are a form of meditation after a 12 hour shift in the emergency room. Such beautiful creations! Thank you.
You're very kind, Vicki, thank you! And thanks so much for doing what you do!! 😊👍
And thank you. You are an asset to the world.
Vicki Clark same 😂
I guess he s a true dreamer R. Humphrey.
I like his videos cose most of lathe turners ate just showing quick videos without any commment. No info.. No fail... No real advice.
Sounds a littl bit inhuman sometimes just looking for their ego and... Money back. Some Us or canadian or Brit give with humility lot of explanations. That s pleasant.
Olivier Gomis f. Ex the french turner should give more explanations. He s really good but too much silent.
Some russian or asian too!
Love the fact that you are explaining to us as you go most post don't
Gotta give it to Mr. Humphrey giving shout-outs to several wood-turning artists out there. Real humble guy.
WOW, Looks like an ocean or coral reef. Beautiful.
Thank you very much!
Whoever thought a bunch of kindling could become that is a freaking genius keep up the awesome work
I can’t believe how amazing the pine cones turned out!! Just beautiful! Such vision! At first I t just looked like a pile of junk in a bucket! Truly beautiful bowl!
Much appreciated!

Thanks!!!
I’m not an artist myself but is incredibly relaxing to see how you create so much beauty and make it look like it was so easy!!!
You are very welcome. I bet the work you do to make your art is very relaxing and therapeutic for you? Woodworking and all crafting for that matter really helps center me and bring peace inside of me.
If your into them work with some reptiles they're pretty relaxing too......for the most part
@@mattburns7182 Thanks for the tip!

@@candacegoodenrn8118 Been working with K-9's almost 30 yrs. now and short of a sugar glider, ferret or hedge hog if it's a small mammal I've either had it before or currently have it right now. I have 10 Jack Russel/ Corrige/ Chichiuas, 1 dwarf rat and 4 snakes one of them being an albino western diamondback rattlesnake about 16 in. long. Like I said I'm an animal lover, for me it's a lot of work but it's more fun then work 😁🤗👍👍👍
Thank you Candace, you're exactly right, it helps me a lot. Animal lover here too Matt, life would be less complete without them in my humble opinion!
@@RHumphrey I like animals better then humans for the most part, you know exactly where you stand with them
I like how the pine cones along with the blue epoxy looks. It reminds me of some prehistoric creature swimming in an ancient ocean. Very nice!
Thank you very much! I almost went with green...I'm glad I didn't! 😊
One day I hope to be able to aquire the tools to try this for myself it's amazes me and I'm so interested in things like this
I hope you are able to try it! Thank you!
Great looking bowl. Those pine cones remind me of scorpions or fossilized prehistoric creatures. Another winner Top.
Thank you very much! They do look like fossils.... 😊
I thought they looked like alien carcasses.
I was thinking the exact same thing
Ein großartiges Stück!
Die Schale wirkt durch ihre Farbgebung in Kombination mit den Koniferenzapfen fast wie ein Erbstück aus einem alten europäischen Adelssitz.
👍👏
You are an absolute artist.
This is going to sound terrible, but I watch your videos when I cant sleep. Your voice is extremely relaxing and it always helps put me at ease. Thank you
Semper Fi Brother!
That doesn't sound terrible at all, I appreciate the compliment. This craft puts me at ease, so I'm really happy that feeling translates through! Semper Fi!!!
Thank you for your service marine, I lost my temper with a DI at Benning and they decided I wasn't made for the army. I kick myself in the ass everyday since then I blew a lifelong dream because of my temper
Goodness that's gorgeous and the pine cones look like scorpion bones, absolutely earned my subscription and my like
That is absolutely gorgeous, love the way the pine cones show through the blue and pearl.
Your work is beautiful. I really like how you feature other artist’s work ! Very cool!
You are a very gifted man Mr. H. I don't know you and I'm proud, I definitely respect others talents. Thank You. God Bless
You're very kind, and I appreciate that. Thank you!
I second Glenn's comment. You are a talented man, Rod.
The pinecones on the inside look something like a prehistoric scorpion or some type of anthropod, very cool!
Thanks so much!
It,s always fun to watch a master, great video. Super gorgeous bowl. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! You're very kind
I love watching the process.
Thanks very much! 😊
@@RHumphrey your very welcome!
The pine cones really made that piece. It looks cool with the blues and Pearl beautiful colours.
Rod, your calm voice and descriptions of your work, make your videos very enjoyable and informative.
I look forward to watching the rest of your work.
Thank you for sharing.
The pinecone cross sections kinda look like scorpions. Very cool bowl
WOW!
I have just bought my first lathe. Think it’ll be a good few years until I try making that. Love the bowl 👍👍
I'd suggest jumping right in to the world of resin...it's much easier than it looks. congrats on the lathe!!!! 😊
Como é lindo sou apaixonada por essas maravilhas quero muito fazer
Beautiful. I love the blue color. The pinecones take on a fish-scale effect against the blue.
Thanks very much! 😊
How nice is that, he actually takes the time to showcase other people's turnings. Heartwarming to say the least.
Hello dear sir! I do not understand everything that you speak English, but I feel the beauty of your work. I like the tree. Any tree in any form is beautiful. And you discover the beauty of the tree. I enjoy your videos. Thank you! You are a true artist.
Such a nice relaxing voice and beautiful finished project. Thank you for sharing your art and creative process with us 🌸
You're very kind, thank you!
I came across your video accidentally. I had never seen this kind of work but became completely engrossed in the process through which you created a beautiful piece of art from some sticks, pine cones and epoxy resin. The bowl you created was absolutely beautiful. Is it possible to purchase some of your pieces? I would very much enjoy having such a lovely place of art. You are a very talented craftsman.
frosty the snowman! well that’s one way to get dressed up warm!
My husband found this pine con resin bowl and we are hooked! Will be investing and trying our own hand at this creative stuff! Thank you! I would love to have a set of salad bowls like this!! He has been Hresearching it for about 2 weeks now.
I’m a choir conductor for more than 50 years: the bowl you’ve created is a piece of Music. Thank you. Merry Christmas!
A beautiful compliment and I'm very thankful for it!
The bowl is absolutely beautiful and you and so good at doing that, it’s absolutely amazing! I also love how by the end your arm and machine is covered in the strings that come off the bowl 😂
Thank you! Very clingy strings!
There’s something so satisfying and relaxing about woodturning. I follow a bunch of other woodturning/carving accounts. Your voice is so soothing too. I wasn’t having the best night, so just sitting down and watching and listening to this really helped me out. The bowl turned out absolutely beautiful. I think if it was all pinecones it would have been a better better on the aesthetic part. However, I think the wood really made it organic and gave it another element that really added to the bowl. Keep up the great work! ❤️
You're very kind, thank you! I'll do another with all pinecones soon I hope 🙂
That turned out AWESOME Rod, I'm a little puzzled on why it cracked, but you fixed it up right ! as always Thumbs UP !
Hey Doug, seem like we keep watching the same turners. Well when you have good taste...LOL.....I actually thought the fixed cracks looked part of the finish anyhow!
Thanks Doug! I'm not really sure...maybe I did too much at once and should have gone with timed layers...could have been that rotten wood causing problems. Thanks again!
R Humphrey The wood probably swelled with the heat of the resin, since as you said it was rotten. Then when you exposed it to a sharp cold over night, the wood cells shrank back and pulled away from the resin.
That's possible, Erin, I'm not sure.... I'll so it a bit different nest time to see if I can track down the cause.
Fantastic! This bowl very beautiful! I've never seen anything like this before.
Nature's colors always looks perfect!
Thanks 🙏.
I greatly appreciate you sharing these methods of work in creating real art pieces, Bravo! Semper Fi

Yoooo, you're the Bob Ross of the wood world🧡
Thanks very much! 😊
Love it. The [pine cones look like fish scales in the ocean.
I mute the videos that play cheesy music in the videos but I really appreciate you talking us through what you're doing it really adds to the video for those of us just getting into wood working.
Thank you, and I appreciate the feedback!
I said the same thing cheesy music or stupid theatrics I just mute the clip while I watch
Thank GOD no cheesy music or weird computer voice!! Great that u explain what ur doing, tools ur using, etc. Great video, gorgeous work!! Thank you for sharing! Be safe, God bless🙏😀
You sir are a craftsman! I was mesmerized watching the bowl as it was turning. Great job!! Can't wait to see what you turn next.
Thanks very much! 😊
Amazed, as always at the difference between the start and the outcome. I could watch this all day, I swear it. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos and sharing them, sincerely.
Beautiful end result. Love the color with the pinecones.
Great job buddy💯. It’s very addicting to watch💪🏽
Thanks so much!
Rod that is one beautiful bowl this is only the second time I have seen a bowl being made from pine cones the other one was made by Nick Zammeti and both bowls are beautiful thank you once again for another amazing piece.
Thanks very much! Nicks was the first I saw too. Something special about those pine cones, they all have such beauty within.
It looks like a snowy mountain with waves crashing on it or something to me... Its beautiful...
It’s not a bowl - it’s art! Very functional art, but most definitely art. I saw a deep, underwater world full of exotic sea creatures. Love this bowl!
Ya'know those pine cones on the outside almost look like dragon scales....just might keep that in mind for future dragon and Viking bowl projects.
I'll do that...much potential there.
That is so gorgeous I would love to do this my daughter does leather jewellery sewing all art but you need the tools that is what makes this loverly things
Thank you very much!
I bought my lathe used, with tons of cutting tools, finishes etc used on a local trade sale group, for an excellent price. Learn what you need, and shop around.
The pine cones come out looking like seabed fossils!
WOW! And it glows in the dark. That's the important part for me LOL. Thanks for sharing ♥♥♥
It's like a bowl with really cool abstract art
Это невероятно) из нескольких шишек и пары кусков дерева сделать такую офигенную вазу!
большое спасибо!
Отличная работа.

I like your videos because you talk during them about your thoughts, etc. I just recently found the woodturning stuff and while the process is fascinating, you can only watch someone spin something on the turner without any real insight before you've 'seen it all', as it were. Your talking adds an insightful element that lets me listen while painting some wargaming miniatures, and keeping an eye on your progress.
It looks like half of a bowling ball! Very pretty!
Beautiful creation from common material, a true inspiration. I just outfitted my pressure pot for my first attempt with resin and want to inquire as to the make and colors of the pigments you use.
I bought a ten color combo pack...Mica powder by Pemline If I remember right, on Amazon for a great price. I bought the pearl separately, same place online. Thanks very much!
What does the pressure pot do?? I just got my.first lathe and I already work with resin. Thank you!
Subbed absolutely stunning 👌 if u ever fancy giving it a new home then il take it of your hands 😁
That does look real nice how Long did it actually take to do it the whole process please comment back
Hello Martin! It was a three day process. Design/set up/pour the first day; 24 full hours for resin cure; then the lathe work on the third day.
Fantastic colours and the pine cones give a great contrast
For a basic bowl this is exceptionally nice due to the way you mixed the different materials.
I get tired of the same things that are often done but lately I have seen remarkable results.
I think I'm going to subscribe to this channel, I love to watch these but don't like the theatrics that some of these channels have. It's a wood/resin project not a theatrical drama. Great work by the way 👍
Thank you very much, Matt! Welcome to my channel! I appreciate your sub! 😊
@@RHumphrey Keep up the awesome projects I love to watch these projects being made
It glows!!!! Alright, alright, alright. Love you work.
The pine cones look like scales, the whole piece is beautiful
Beautiful piece of art! I'm a word Carver myself, but after watching your work, I am deeply impressed. I work with epoxy resin at my job seaming granite together for customer's countertops, and I never thought of making art with epoxy resin. Mind blown!
Wow I'm amazed how you turn wood into something totally beautiful
I use to do this stuff in Junior high! I made a wooden bowl, cutting board and a few small items that I made. I loved it!! I wish I had the equipment for this. Thank you for sharing a great memory
You're welcome, and thank you!😊
Beautiful. Really like how the pine cones are recognizable but almost abstract at the same time.
Some people sing, some people paint, and some people write... You make beautiful things with wood. A true artist indeed.
That bowl is simply a knock-out!! WOW!!
Very beautiful, and original composition. Thank you
Much appreciated!
Thank you for doing what you do, both as a Marine and artist. Your voice and talent are soothing and beautiful to behold. Hugs and stay safe. We need you!
Beautiful bowl. Wanted to tell you how much I adore and respect you and your work. One of the most humble and talented people on CZcams.
Such a nice thing to say. Thank you very much! 😀
Your work Is absolutely beautiful! Your narration is great too. I just started watching wood turning videos and I love your channel. It’s really kool how you showcase other artists as well! Great Work!
I have seen many Videos of wood working. We even have a Gentleman in Our Town who does this, That is totally Blind. This is the second one of Yours I've seen and Both are absolutely AMAZING.
Thank you very much!
I’m new at the lathe- I enjoy watching, admittedly, several people for his technique and ideas - I always appreciate when people take time to explain what they’re doing and how to fix boo-boos. So thank you. Also, that bowl is absolutely gorgeous so if you would just go ahead and send it to me down here in Texas. I just noticed that this video is three years old but I sure would’ve taken that bowl off your hands in it for some dumb reason you still have it send it my way
If I owned that bowl, I would never be able to take my eyes off it. Stunning.
Beautiful piece, maybe because blue is my favorite color and I also love winter 😊
Thank you! Ah winter...I miss it already! ❄ I do enjoy spring and fall too though 😊
this bowl just popup. It's Fantastic looking bowl. You inspired me to do these in future😊
The final effect is awesome, took me by surprise. Even my 20 year old daughter thinks this is great.
Thank you very much!😊
I love seeing what you can do keep it going xxx
Thanks so much!
Your Art looked Exquisite to me. I liked it a lot & I am going to watch more of your videos.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
That was a great looking bowl,I enjoy watching videos showing other people skills and talents. I definitely like what you do keep it up
Oh my goodness!!! That is just exquisite. I saw you put the raw materials in that tub and thought... 'what's going to emerge from those tatty bits and pieces...'?
Well... after watching I think you're a magician! That bowl is much coveted by me I can tell you!
'Winter's Promise.' ❤️❤️
Now thats a beautifull piece of work. Really lovely! Thank you.

From firewood to amazingness. This is absolutely stunning. Thanks for explaining things as you go.
The thumbs down are from people with no appreciation for the beauty that the world has to offer.
For me I didnt like the edit because he talks.. I watch these videos for their comforting effects with machinery sound in the background... His talking distracts me..but I didnt unlike the video I am just explaining my viewpoint 😊
So that's how they do that! I had no idea. What a beautiful bowl!
