- Welcome to this weeks woodturning video.
Epoxy Resin
In this woodworking video I turn some scrap plywood cast in epoxy resin, into a rather hideous, ornate box, intentionally the ugliest piece I could make. I needed to use up old out of date epoxy resin and plywood scraps. this epoxy resin based video falls into the ASMR category.
If you find these videos entertaining, I’d appreciate you like, share and subscribe.
Thanks for watching.

LOVE IT or HATE IT ??

Il start.. I think it’s horrendous 😆👎🏻
@@JackMackWoodturning 👍
Love it
You can be sure, that i´ll never hate something you create, because I love too much your incredible lot of ideas, even if there is something, that irritates me.
😆👍🏻 thanks buddy
I used to go to sleep, when I was a kid, to the sound of my Dad turning wood on the lathe, in the workshop, next door.
Still find that to be a very relaxing sound. Even better to see your work. Love it!👍
Really, I’m so glad you found my videos comforting. Your dad sounds like a cool guy 😎
Absolutely cracking wee thing that . The words “sweety jar” kept popping into my head there . Awesome job there Jack 👍🏴
Haha, a wee swedger box. Nice one Jay. 😊👍🏻
Jack "Surprise" Mack! Such cool & unique pieces every time!
Thanks Kate. Glad you enjoyed it 😊👍🏻
👍👍👍👍👍👍 !!!...
Ah Jack !...another beautiful guessing game you took us on...
The golden striping on the bowl is marvelous...that the lid has circular striping was a surprise...and tell me...the third piece for the knob...was that more of your beautiful mahogany ?...
Yes she is stunning...another homerun !...
They are lucky people who own one of your pieces...ahhh..one day..👍😉...
Enjoy your weekend...🌿🌿🌿
Nice one Pam. It was a spare piece of walnut. 😊👍🏻
@@JackMackWoodturning hah !...guess I was wrong again...thanks for letting me know...
👍😉...🌿🌿🌿
No probleymo 😊👍🏻😉
Love how that piece went together!
The different grains of wood and colors really look good together!
Nice work! 👍🏻❤️
Thanks man. Much appreciated 😊👍🏻
From one Jack to another Jack, it is a beauty.
Thanks Jack. Much appreciated man 👍🏻😊

No matter the material he works, Jack is a master! Well done!
Haha thanks Umberto. Much appreciated 😊👍🏻
What a wonderful idea
I am continually amazed at how you can turn scraps of wood (the bowl) into a beautiful piece of art. Thank you sir.
Thanks buddy. Do you do any woodturning?
I do not, but I am considering it.
Wow I feel like this was a journey, very well done!
Life’s about the journey right?
Simply beautiful.... Keep it up!
Thanks Y. Much appreciated 😊👍🏻
Very creative. Plywood works and looks visually appealing...
Are you a fan of the green?
Great!
The green pigment makes the epoxy look like jade and it contrasts beautifully with the lavender interior!
As for the lid, its dome-shaped handle gives a great Eastern vibe.
Another nice one!
(we all want to see bloopers, warts and all now... :P )
I don’t really have anything interesting for a blooper reel. I don’t usually make mistakes. The one time I injured myself I included it in the video. ‘Exploding Bowl’ I think was the title. 🤣
@@JackMackWoodturning Haven't see this one yet!
That was such an impressive turn. Kudos!
Thanks!

Wow wow wow this is so cool 😎 the green parts look 👀 like jade once its polished. Love 💕 it 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎🥰🥰🥰🥰well done

Awesome sauce ?
Wow, a great work of art.. thanks
No probs Ron. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
Hands of a Master turner Jack! That piece was pretty technical. The different wood, color and styles are pretty impressive. I like it man! 👍
Cheers David. Much appreciated man 😊👍🏻😉
I stuck for words on this one. I never knew where it was going. Plywood, epoxy, more plywood and hardwood and then the magic happened. Beautiful work Jack. Where on earth do you get your ideas or are some inspired? Lovely finial work. Top respect from the South East of England
Nice one Matt. Made this one up as it happened as it was made from left overs. I do draw a lot of inspo from a vast range of sources though. Creativity, in my opinion is combining known elements in a new way. Therefore, the more knowledge you have, the more creative you can be 👍🏻😊
Love it. Very nice.👍 Subscribed. Would like to swop decals with you to put your on my board in my work shop. Great channel.

Love it !!! Very interesting 👍😉
Nice one D. Thanks for watching 👍🏻😊
Absolutely love that you don’t put pointless music in your videos! Beautiful work
Thanks Kev. Do you like music?
@@JackMackWoodturning Love music but it has its place. I much prefer hearing the sounds of what I’m watching.
I feel the same. No place for music on my videos, if you want music with it you could sit by the radio 😆
@@JackMackWoodturning Yes! Any of your videos can be easily turned into an ASMR lol. You seam to always have a nice sharp edge on your blades and it’s like you dare for anyone to hear any different 😂
Haha thanks. That’s the power of the tormek t8. Have you ever used one ?
Wow! It has a tiny oriental touch
👏🤩💕
Yeah I know what you mean! Or Indian 😊👍🏻
That is really cool. Love those colors together.
Thanks man. It was just scraps. I tried to make it as ugly as possible as an experiment 🤣
Great to see you back in action. Love seeing the epoxy work too! Endless possibilities with materials and designs, and always a beautiful piece in the end no matter what.
Thanks TH. Much appreciated 😊👍🏻
Very exotic looking.
Oooh exotic.. I didn’t think of that. Where do you think it looks like it’s come from ?
@@JackMackWoodturning like Egypt or a Genie's lamp.
Maybe I should give it a rub ?
beau travail, bravo
Merci 👍🏻😊👌🏻
Long time no see. Don't tell us that you've just had the third boy. Hihi...
Any way, you look busy working outside. See? I said you're the man of family. Admiration.
The way you arranged grain and colors reminds me something of legends, fairy tales. I haven't known what to put inside that colorful box, but I find the cover like the cap of mandarins in court. Hihi...
To be honest, I prefer natural grain to resin. Natural grain brings in beautiful inspirations and soaring imaginations as well. Your thinking?
I agree totally. I am not a fan of resin at all. This was left over after I made the river table so I just poured it over the ply scraps as not to waste it 😊👍🏻
@@JackMackWoodturning , That's it? Ooh la la... If so, I won't call this a piece, but a toy. By the way, "river table" is what? You've made a clip of processing it? Show us, please.
Well it was the river bowl really, kind of started as a river table. It was one of my recent videos I think you might have seen it. 😊👍🏻
@@JackMackWoodturning , Is this video: czcams.com/video/UKAfDs7aDWw/video.html
My Goodness. Its title is "Apple River". You named it. Not "River table" at all.
Yes. I did see the clip, and called the piece another name. Alright. Waiting for your next 'secret work'. Hihi...
Yeah that’s the one. Sorry for the confusion my friend 😊👍🏻🙏
Wonderful work and very nice video edition!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks W. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻😊
You really make some unique items love watching you create💯😲😉
Thanks Lori.
As always very impressive. Not my favorite piece but I’m just one person with an opinion
I set out to make THE most awful piece I could make 😆
I’m glad we share the same taste 😉
That would be a fun competition!
“Make the most hideously ugly turned object you can.”
This is my entry Ken, but the funny thing is I took it home ready for a laugh and the misses loves it. 😆
Away from home for next month, for work, but when I get back, I’ll see what I can conjure up. 😀
that is extremely beautiful, a plywood and epoxy treasure.
I'd buy that
(if I had any money)
What do you think it’s worth?
wow, I wouldn't know.
I could give you a rough estimate on the beautiful pattered stool you made, because I used to sell second hand furniture, but I'd say with something like this, I'd say it depends on who wants it and how much they want it.
I have no money, so I'd trade some fresh organic chickpeas, broadbeans, mustard, peppers, tomato and other produce I've been growing. If I had some money, I'd pay what I could.
@@JackMackWoodturning I'd trade an African Milkwood tree.
They grow well in dry sandy regions without frost. The light wood is fairly soft and easy to work with a fine grain and it can take a beautiful finish, but if you harden it in an oven, it becomes really hard.
How much for the stool ?
I live in north east England, so that tree sounds like it would die in a flash.. we have nice summers but very cold wet winter. The beans and toms sound nice 😊
Show 🤩
Me encanta, pero no arreglaste las burbujas en la parte de adentro del potiche, eso no me gusta nada, vos haces maravillas!!!! 😍😍😍
I love to see what you come up with. Always A Great Job 👍👍
Thanks Maddy. Glad you enjoyed it 😊😉👍🏻
Wondering where you were going with this thing and couldn't figure out what you were trying to do but it all came together in the last couple of stages. Very nice piece.
Красота ❤❤❤🎉
I've always loved your pieces of work and the pot and lid is fabulous I really love the green and purple epoxy they are lovely colours and the wood you have used is great love the grain in it well done to another fantastic masterpiece Jack. Amandaxx
Thanks Amanda. Glad you enjoyed it. 😊😉👍🏻
Allright Jack Mack, was this planned or did you make it up going along? lol
I thought I had it figured out a couple of times but didn't.
Good turn,
Lee
Bit of a maker upper as you can imagine 🤣
@@JackMackWoodturning great
😊👍🏻
👏👏👏👌👍
You like the colours??
WOW double WOW what a nice piece.how much would sell for
I’d sell it to the highest bidder. How much do you think it’s worth ?
Jack question, Do you make and sales for customers?
I do. This piece was just made from scraps and leftovers though. 😊👍🏻
Jack I like the work! Question: at 14:37 you place a block of plywood in the center of the pour, and then proceed to cut it out. Why? What am I missing?
Respectfully
Steve
Hey Steve. The ply was to raise the level of the resin through displacement. As I’d not mixed enough to get to the hight I wanted. Does that make sense ?
@@JackMackWoodturning Jack thanks. That thought came to (displacement ) about 10 minutes after is sent the question 🤔.
What a wonderful imagination . That lid was great . Thanks for sharing .
No sweat John. Thanks for watching buddy 😊👍🏻
Interesting form, it reminds me of Persian/Indian serving bowls. Not so sure about the purple inside, but the green is a good contrast to the ply.
Looks Regal, I like the shape. Couldn't you just brush the purple on a few layers at a time?
I think it would take longer that way as I would need to wait for each layer to dry. 😊
Interesting...
Did you read the description?
Nice outcome! 👍
WWG1WGA
Thanks RL. 🙏😊👍🏻
Very nice.
Cheers Doug. 👍🏻😊
It looks great Jack beautiful Thanks for sharing.
No probs Marty. Thanks for watching 👍🏻😊
For the plywood, what is the species and grade?
This is BB birch wood ply
Nice
What do you use for finishing wood / epoxy bowls?
I used shellac sealer and danish oil on this
Aku akan belajar menjadi pengrajin kayu seperti di video ini. insya Allah
You could've got rid of the bubbles by taking off a bit more of the purple resin then polish it.
Incorrect
@@JackMackWoodturning that's it? Ok cool.
I've found that tinting thin CA glue and applying it to the air bubble pockets works well.
The form is great as usual, the colors are horrible. So nevertheless: it´s something new.
They are truly horrendous arnt they 😆
@@JackMackWoodturning In one point you can be sure: I apologize.
Have you read the video description ?
Nice work brother it came it really cool. F/A good job
Nice one Grizz mate 😊👍🏻
Compliments! Very beautiful piece!
Thanks K. Much appreciated 👍🏻😊
This does look AMAZING!
Nice one Ivan. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻😊
Not my favorite color combination, but still expertly done.
Did you read the video description dude 😉
Hi Jack, looks great, another beut! hadn't a clue where you were going with that either, makes the end product a surprise. Like it.cheers Will.
Nice one Will. Gotta keep ‘em guessin 🤣👍🏻
I initially didn't like the blue inside but it turned out beautiful! I saw on another channel that one way to get air bubbles out of resin is to use a hair dryer and the bubbles will disappear.
Interesting, I will give it a shot 😊👍🏻
Love the whole pice Jack, great work. Keep safe, John
Thanks John. Much appreciated man 👍🏻😊
I wish the wood stayed in the pattern when you did the epoxy pour.
I thought it did?
@@JackMackWoodturning It still looks great, it just went from symmetrical to only roughly symmetrical, and my brain was all, 'awrh'.
It turned out well in the end. I did wonder about degassing the epoxy?
My intention with this piece was to used up the last of my old epoxy resin and make the most disgusting resin item I could ( with minimal work 😉) The pressure pot didn’t enter that equation.
Love this one ,was a very pleasant surprise well done you
Thanks S 🙏👍🏻😊😉
I like the look of the resin with this, many times I have seen resin use it almost completely cover the details of the wood. This was a great one Jack!
Thanks Alex mate. Much appreciated 😊👍🏻
Very nice piece IMO another great job Jack. I don't think its ugly whatsoever. Love the lid, well done.
Cheers Mark. Many thanks buddy 😊👍🏻
pretty wild and trippy design Jack. Quick question. What Lathe are you using? thanks
Lathe is from Axminster. In wouldn’t recommend their products though
@@JackMackWoodturning thanks jack. Is there a lathe you would recommend? Like one to aim at getting in a year or so.
I’m after a Vicmarc 👌🏻
Also worth checking out Laguna . Vicmarc are super expensive but well worth it for the serious turner
Unfortunately, bubble marks remained on the inside, not pretty
You obviously didn’t read the description. 🤣

That is a really cool piece and creating a different coloured inside was quite a neat idea.

I preferred the inside of the bowl before you added the purple. It was more interesting and prettier.
Did you read the description of this video?
@@JackMackWoodturning No, my bad.
😊
@@JackMackWoodturning OK, now I get it. Before the purple it was quite pretty, but you sure did know how to wreck it...yuck haha Thanks for the input.
The inside scoop is that a a friend and I were discussing taste/design preference and he said “you could make the most disgusting item you could think of and there will be people out there who will love it..” I thought this was an extreme statement that required validation.. it turns out he was right.. I tried to make something I consider horrendous, and a lot of people still said it was beautiful. It makes me realise that sometimes I make things I think are exquisite and often people pass them by as nothing special and that’s just a matter of taste.. no one is right or wrong. I guess that is what is so lovely about the creative process.
😀👍👏👏👏👏
It's beautiful well one! My only criticism would be the few bubbles from the epoxy. Other than that it's great I would spend good money on this.
Thanks J. Should have gone into the pressure pot. I was just messing on with left overs though 🤣😊👍🏻
Beautiful except the pitted epoxy inside.
Thanks, did you read the video description?
смолу совсем не экономит....resin does not save at all
What do you mean?

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow! Another beautiful piece! Jack, what’s the tool you use to fit your mortise? It’s wide with almost a square hook at the end… don’t know how to describe it.
Hey, could you tell me a time stamp so I can be sure of the tool you mean. Thanks
What a waste of plywood and resin just for producing another heap of plastic refuse ... shame ...😱
I assume you didn’t read the description of this video my friend
