  • This is how I handcraft each individual sterling silver filigree cross. This video is not a tutorial, rather a step by step approach of my way around creating these pieces. Material used: sterling silver outer frame of cross. Fine silver for the inner wire.
    Handcrafted in Malta by Mark Borg.

    Hi, is the liquid you pour over the pieces flux or water? Very pretty! ❤❤🤍🤍💙💙

      It's water. Flux is mixed with the powdered solder

    Thanks for creating this video. I really enjoyed watching it. I was surprised to see that you put your filigree in a rotating drum to clean it up. How long do you tumble it and does it not cause a lot of wear on the fine silver filigree wire

      Hi! I love cleaning my filigree pieces in a tumbler, as this tests all the solder joints. I leave it for 30-40 min and I use warm water and soap with stainless steel shot. I never had worn pieces after tumbling, it brings a beautiful shine and works harden the silver. :)

      @FiligreeArt  Před 4 lety

      @@mfmetalarts5782 It is fine silver. Outer wire is sterling for strength :)

      Can you recommend a source for the powdered solder applicator that you sift from. Beautiful work and the overhead shots of curling filigree pieces are especially helpful.

    Hi Mark, What a wonderful step by step video and what a gorgeous pendant. What is it you are filing to make the solder? Do you pour on distilled water, flux then put the filings on (what are they?)

    • @FiligreeArt
      @FiligreeArt  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes distilled water and the filings are solder pieces (filed from an ingot)

      Can the fine solder be purchased?

    • @FiligreeArt
      @FiligreeArt  Před 4 lety +3

      @@maryadams1646 I pour my own solder ingot and file it down :) I guess you can search around and buy some, but for me I find it easier and more consistent. It is so easy to make, but you need elbow grease to file it down :)

    Hi.I just subscribed. Your work is very beautiful. Is that 950 silver? How sturdy is filigrain jewelry?

    • @FiligreeArt
      @FiligreeArt  Před 3 lety

      Outer wire is 925 and inner filigree wire is 999. It is very durable if crafted correctly.

      @@FiligreeArt Thank you for your answer. I always asked myself how resistant this jewelry is because I see you and other craftsmen rolling it with very ease. But I suppose the soldering is also increasing the strength. You are very talented.

      @FiligreeArt  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you. The outer 925 frame offers strength and proper soldering makes it one piece.
