How to: Twisting inner filigree wire
A small demonstration on how I twist inner filigree wire with tweezers. These are traditional motifs found in Maltese filigree. The way filigree wire is twisted varies from one artisan to another; this is my way.
🛠️ Tools & Materials:
.325mm fine silver wire (Twisted tightly than flattened)
Stainless steel AA tweezers (my preferred choice)
A keen eye for detail and a passion for craftsmanship

Fusing fine silver bezel wire: The trick is to have both edges facing each other without any gaps and totally clean. Heat both sides equally until turning red; make sure your light is low in the room working to see the colour changing. Keep a steady hand and the melt will be super quick. Beautiful,! I love the magic of fusing ........I know this is an older video ...what is the thickness you roll your bezel to? I am always getting warped sheets. I do anneal...my roller is not the best as I am self taught and purchase what I can..... thank you for sharing your skill.

It's water. Flux is mixed with the powdered solder

What type of solder do you use? Hard, medium, soft etc. Thanks for thr great tutorial & you're English is awesome!
Hard solder for the outer frame. Medium for the filigree wire 🙏😊

Wire is .3mm thick.. it's twisted than flattened (this will depend on your style, I like it flat but not too thin)

I want to thank you for this video, I have seen this element used in several pieces but could not figure out how to make it, until you showed me how. Please post more tutorials, maybe add links of where to get you toola and supplies, for instance the solder spreader?
Hi! Yes, I am planning some more tutorials. Finding time is my issue 😅 Most tools are self-made, like the solder spreader.
How much heat from torch we need to solder filigrane thank you
It depends on the solder used and Melting temp of solder.. usually 700-800 deg Celsius
Can you file any silver and save dust to solder or melting down actual solder into an ingot then filing? Fine or sterling dust would be easy medium or hard? So i can file say fine silver and use filings mixed with borax and thats solder? Im stupid, sorry!!
There are recipes for different alloy solders. Easy, medium and hard are the main ones used. For filigree I use medium or hard solder. I melt into an ingot and file, collect the filings mix borax with the solder and ready to use!

Bu weight is 1:1.. nowadays I just eye it. If the solder won't melt nicely, lacking borax 😊

Gauges/Thickness are all depending on the project. Small pendants I usually use .8mm wire for the outside of the filigree and .3mm for the filigree wire. Sheet I use .8mm for small items and 1mm for larger items :)

What is the name of the burner you are using?
That's a small torch used in the kitchen, unbranded. There are also proper jewellery torches which are more recomended.
