  • Another round of before and after graphic designing with Satori Graphics, where I take famous designs that exist in todays world, and make small changes or adjustments for big results.
    In todays video we are just looking at 3 different designs, but we do look at some pretty in-depth things and go into detail on why the changes made to create a better more efficient graphic design outcome.
    I know that many of you love the before and after design content videos, and so I will keep making them, especially on existing or famous designs, as that then gives real world use on how such changes can be beneficial.
    If you found todays video on before and after graphic designs enjoyable or useful, let me know in the comments section and drop a like on your way out. Subscribe to stay updated to all of my uploads and until next time, design your future today, peace

    On the first one I’m pretty there intent was to break it apart so it could be seen as two sentences, “everyone is beach body ready” and “beach body ready”. Thats my guess why ready is on the right side and not on the left.

    I'm a "baby designer" especially with software, but I'm naturally VERY talented with eyes for arts. I'm a sick PERFECTIONIST who nothing impresses. But...
    No jokes, Satori Graphics is the among my "few" best resources for pro and effective graphics design information. From his presentation to the actual designs and perspective, Mr Tom is outstanding.
    No disruptive background noises, no breaks in thoughts/analysis, no needless repetitions, no bullshits, no confusion..... just facts after facts of information. Everything is well-organized, well-paced (slow n steady) and neatly executed. And the information: SPOT-ON!
    Keep it up, Mr Tom, you're a class above. 🔥🔥🔥

    For the " Commitment" part, i sadly don't agree with you. For a very simple reason: you cover the product. I often worked for lingerie/apparel ad and they NEVER want to cover their products. You don't sell " commitment", you sell a jacket. I personnaly would reduce the word and place it 1/3 from the top ( aligned with the head of the model), on the left of the design. Just my 2 cents :)

    • @fijisushi
      @fijisushi Před 3 lety +3

      I thought this too - everything other re-design works but the moment it covered the jacket, it made me pause. Considering that the text is white on a greyscale image, and the jacket itself is pale in contrast, the placement of the typography really takes away the product. I would have maybe considered having it on a 180 angle on the side.
      This being said, this video is invaluable in its context and I think is fantastic because it allows different opinions.

    • @14onyx
      @14onyx Před 2 lety +1

      You're right and I thought so too, it's decorative but not so functional becuase when you furhter read the text it's clearly saying stuff regarding to that jacket. so how would you know what a jacket made of the uniforms of the heroes project veterans look like if couldn't properly see it :P

    • @TakeNoteMusic
      @TakeNoteMusic Před 2 lety +1

      I agree, but that brand, in particular, isn't the average "visit-click-buy" brand. In that case, I think having the word stretch across the entire image implies the brand is trying to sell you on the image as well as the jacket. Just my two cents. Plus most people I know don't look at an ad and make their purchasing decision off the ad itself. If the ad is intriguing and the branding aligns with them, they'll investigate the individual product more. Either way, great video and fantastic creative conversation :)

The second design had a bit of a tricky background but you made it work, and the H&M design looks far better than the original overly cluttered original. For the EQUINOX job, after resetting the text COMMITMENT i would have tried splitting the font colour, right down the middle of the T, so COMMI is in white, and MENT in black, with the T split down the middle, giving more contrast over what is a very busy background.
    That May not work, but that's what i'd try just to see how it looks. The white over the grey is fine but gets lost over the lighter male image, black text over that image could pop more. The two tone black and white text could also give a nice feel.
    Either way, yours is an improvement on what was a very poor original.

    • @whiteboardanimatorhamna

      Same thoughts...I was thinking the commitment in white color was not looking right ir should have been in black or something..

    • @elfboy745
      @elfboy745 Před 3 lety

      I was wondering if the reason why the T in the original was white on light bg, because they wanted the word 'MEN' to draw the eye. First glance is to catch with a "typo", then as you glance at the pic, establish it is a men's collection too.

    Im sorry, I quite liked the H&M design... I totally understand that the redesign was 100% better in terms of design principles, I quite enjoyed the previous version aesthetically (even though it could have been done even better in my opinion).
    I'd go for a balanced look between the clean "design work" and "creative aesthetic way"... meat somewhere in the middle

    • @vipercat3822
      @vipercat3822 Před 3 lety

      I agree, while I think that knowing and using design principles is a huge part of good design work, there are times where breaking those rules can look better. I think the H&M original version still worked well even with the messy fonts because it maintained that H&M feel. I think the same for the Commitment one as well could have been redesigned better since he essentially covered the product. Just 2 cents lol.

    • @ghost_of_a_dead_poet
      @ghost_of_a_dead_poet Před 3 lety

      @@vipercat3822 I liked the commitment one, even though a fancier font might look even better. I agree that some aspects of the design could be handled differently.
      I am not a professional though. In the end, I think design is very subjective and will remain like that until AI takes our jobs. xD

    • @vipercat3822
      @vipercat3822 Před 3 lety

    I think the original designers might've had better designs but the clients asked them to change it. At least this happens to me a lot where my designs are turned into garbage by the client's changing it over and over simply because they want more stuff to be added into it while ignoring the fact that I'm the one who knows what would look best here. The clients have no past experience of UI/UX, Colors and whatnot.

    move the right block of text on the H&M example a few pixel higher. It will look better then. I see this often in your designs. You let elements "hang" on the bottom and this creates the illusion of heaviness. It is visually not balanced. You have also another low hanging element on the left. Which emphasises this effect even more.

  • @DonnieDisasters
    @DonnieDisasters Před 2 lety +1

    The first one you did one mistake : we cant read "every body is ready" anymore.

  • @ilikehumans1096
    @ilikehumans1096 Před 3 lety +7

    Disagree with the first one. The designer is mimicking the contrapposto (asymmetrical weight shift) of the model with the font. You completely ignored that aspect with your redesign.

    • @14onyx
      @14onyx Před 2 lety

      that's true although it seems like the original just gave it some attitude. what he did was kinda simply following the rules he always makes sure to give us in those videos. it's not wrong and actually visually pleasing just more of a classic "FB cover/billboard" type of layout. nothing too artistic
      Also, what would you have done with the social icons and the branding name? because those are all over the place and we shouldn't search for them in a design or worse miss them out. PLUS brand name almost looks like a signature even. so if that's not the case i'd maybe put it below "ready" or something and not on the bottom right - like a signiture.

    • @jeansienkin
      @jeansienkin Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, I actually disagree with the three of them, but for the first one, the model is inserted in the middle of the text as a punctuation mark, she merges with the text. There is also a rhythm effect with the wording "every body is"... "beach body ready", then the brand is inserted like a signature. The design works fine, the composition is balanced, there is an overall strong central continuous bold shape. The redesign has a weaker composition, elements are shattered apart, the model is treated like a foreign element. The font draws too much attention with the funky "o", it looks cartoony and funny. The original intent is to make a bold statement and empower the viewers (potential clients) to be proud of their curves, not to make a humorous statement. It is intended to be taken seriously.

  • @lauraaugustinus9
    @lauraaugustinus9 Před 3 lety

    I agree with the critique at H&M. But I do not agree with the solution (which is totally fine, design is subjective to an extent). Exclusive is a part of the logo, it’s called H&M conscious exclusive, it’s a ‘lux’ clothing Line within the H&M Concious Line. It’s super confusing when you stumble upon it, when you aren’t the key audience ;-)

    How can you say the equinox text is placed at random when the M and N share edges directly aligned with the background object behind them? The thing about design is, once something is already designed, you can do anything to it and feel it's an improvement. I think the novelty of change is overrated, and I think a lot of 'effective' and 'best practice' design cues are not as well received by the public as they are by discerning designer eyes. The world is over-complicated by the need to 'perfect' what at the end of the day will always be art. Structure is an illusion.

    the photo in the first design is horrible. It doesn't bring the right message. It says "f**k you, I don't care". Which can be rather seen as a lack of self-confidence. Also the yellow is not a friendly color. The model should be relaxed and smile and just have a natural and friendly pose to show that she feels great.
