This is what ranch asian market in phx. Az. Live fish area looked.
no . waste of food money for a pricy scrap of metal , ain't nobody watching this channel got enough money for dat
That tank from 1896 is literally something from my nightmares - terrible husbandry in a large tank full of both freshwater and saltwater fish
There are freshwater eels buried I understand what you mean
exactly haha
I think it’s not a lack of information but a lack of the spread of information. Nowadays we have CZcams to learn how to keep fish so we are more easily informed.
I agree. I have some books about aquaria from that period. They are more scientifically sound and in-depth than many articles on the non-edu internet today. However, books were expensive and not easily available to everyone. Now we are free to share info and misinfo alike.
I've noticed people who grew up catch & release fishing will be more "open" to fish abuse...considering their favorite activitly is just that. Basically, the environment someone grows up in dictates if their ethics will apply to aquatic life or not.
Agreed. I have learned tons in terms of husbandry from some very knowledgeable CZcamsrs.
Not true. If people were interested in informing themselfes, they could do so without problems even in 1896. I have a Aquarium book from 1898 by E. Bade, and even there, keeping goldfish in bowls was frowned upon. But somehow people are still doing it 130 years later. Its not the lack of spread of information, but the interest in informing yourself. If there is no interest in keeping healthy fish, not even Alexa or AI will prevent fish abuse.
@@redacted3610 A conservation minded outdoorsman is infinitely more likely to be educated on these matters than city folk, I would question exactly how much experience you have with anglers and hunters to say something like that.
These people are playing a much more significant role in protecting our ecosystems then the people who complain from behind a screen. They put their money where their mouth is.
Watching those poor semi aquatic frogs suffer and drown as I hear my fully aquatic African dwarf frogs singing across the room broke my heart.
QOTW: My favorite summer activity is lounging by my pool with a good book.
pretty crazy yeah
that dead frog floating around is the perfect screen saver, just imagine being like, yall, look at this dead frog screensaver , then OMGGGGG IT HIT THE CORNER NOW THE AMMONIA IS GETTIN OUT LETS GO GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
QOTW: staying inside as in oman it gets 35 degrees if ur lucky
🤣🤣🤣☠️
looool
Fish abuser propably thought fish keeping is easy, just catch new ones from the nearby river or buy from the store after old ones die very soon. Did they even have stores back tien? 😮
Getting a tank for that Easter island head, stocking with guppies, shrimp, and snails. 😂
lmao!
7:45 They won’t explode if you open them regularly to relive pressure.
QOTW: Umm, for me it’s winter
i guess so!
My favorite summer activity is reading a book by the beach!! ❤❤❤❤
good stuff
based af
Alex from Fishstory covered this video. If I remember correctly the photographer made the aquarium owner jam pack it absolutely full for the filming. So presumably they all had separate tanks on a normal day- for what it’s worth
aiya... some died though LOL no photographer gonna convince me to shove my animals like that!
“The best part of summer when it doesn’t get crazy hot yet” sir this is Texas.
My favorite summer hobby is frozen snacks :3
PREACH!
yes xD
If you ever make it to Detroit, Belle Isle has the US's oldest public aquarium from 1904. It's not much to see, but it's absolutely historic
ooo :0
Maybe the 1896 tank was a "fish for eating" type tank. Like the ones at a seafood restaurant.
yeah looks the part
Hey man, I love the quality of the videos, the always highlight my Tuesdays (I'm I'm aus) you make my week great!
tysm!
You know, we've got so many canals in The Netherlands but they're often so murky. Sometimes you just can't help it when there is so much peat in the underground, lol. Watching fish swim by must do wonders for your mood!
that's pretty cool though, the canals!
This Summer I'm hitting the trails on my new Trek mountain bike!
And maybe quarantining some Neon Tetras.
awesome!
QOTW I love going camping. It has always been my favorite outside activity since I was a little girl. I am much to old to sleep on the ground these days but an rv is just the thing to keep the old joints from killing me. My husband has taken our suv and turned it into a very nice camper. Once it warms up a little more, I plan on going again.
so cool
Looking at the Victorian Fish Tank, the reason why the frogs may be dying is that they have the tiniest amount of space possible to even take a breath on the surface and no chance to rest anywhere. They are essentially forced to tread constantly for that air, especially being battered around by the other fish on top of it, and it doesn't look sustainable at all.
true
The best part of my week is knowing that I can look forward to these uploads every Tuesday. Thanks ❤
aw ty :)
Yup, I'm with you...I melt in the sun, I go out early morning get the gardening down and mowing. Then it's a shower and COOL air!
yeahh!!!
You make my Mondays much better
lets gooo!
@FishForThought let's gooo!
I just want to thank you for the weekly uploads ! I always look forward for your videos and use them as motivation to clean up my tanks and do my water changes, which is difficult with ADHD ! But at the end of the day my fishes are happy, I'm happy and I hope you're happy too !
aw glad to hear you like it!
My fav activity, collecting large driftwood, rocks , wild guppies and bamboo shrimp in the mountains above Cebu city. Love your style. Fish keeping here is very popular
ttyty!
fave summer activity - paddly pool with my toddler and chickens - back into the house by mid day because I'm too pale for real sunshine.
chill time!~
Happy FFTDAY everyone! Thanks for kicking the week off with awesomeness, Chris!
Thank you!
QOTW: My favorite summer activity is hiking and rock hounding!
I had a lady come into the store I work at with a metal frame tank like the one at the beginning of the video, but from like the 1980s. It had been sitting in her garage for decades. The light still worked.
awesome!
Love your videos Chris! One of my favorite summer activities is going to the farmers market on the weekends and buying some fresh fruit 🍉 During the summer my town has more stands so it’s super nice!
Hey Chris, new mic sounds awesome, thanks for the change and fun vid per usual!
thx! I'm still playing around with things though!
QOTW: "I don't want sunburn"
Me, also ridiculously pale semi-ginger: That's why they make spandex rashguards and stuff... lol
Launching a large kayak into big water. (long narrow boat is faster and more efficient than short fat boat)
Here in southcentral PA we have lakes, the Susquehanna River; there's an Important Bird Area south of Columbia PA called the Conejehola Flats, which hosts waterfowl, seabirds, and migrating shorebirds...and native American Lotus in late summer, fields of it you can paddle through.
We're in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, going down DelMarVa peninsula gets you into a landscape of small towns and horse farms, waterways and lots of boats. The Sassafras River is tidal freshwater (no jellyfish/sea nettles) and has sand beaches, lots of wildlife, and American Lotus in late summer.
Over on the Delaware Bay is Cape Henlopen State Park, at the place the Delaware Bay joins the Atlantic Ocean. Up the Bay side is Slaughter Beach, famous for its horseshoe crab spawn about now (May through June). They come up out of the bay (as they have for over 400 million years in various other waters), lay their eggs at high tide. Migrating shorebirds, like red knots, depend on the feast as they travel from the tip of South America to the arctic. Horseshoe crabs have survived every. mass. extinction. on. the. planet.
Meanwhile, the last great wild horse roundup in the east happens on Chincoteague and Assateague islands at the end of July (the VA ponies are actually owned and managed by the Chincoteague Fire Co, the MD ponies are managed as wildlife). Made famous by Marguerite Henry's book "Misty of Chincoteague", it is a remnant of colonial livestock keeping practices, in which they turned livestock loose on the big barrier island to fend for itself until needed. Only the ponies remain.
hahaha
Ahoy hoy FTR crew!! Wishing all a radically positive and positively awesome week!!
yes! ahoy :)
Love your videos man! Favorite summer activity is tubin' down the river with the gals
YEEeEEeESSss, this video was amazing!!!!! Also you may or may not remember but my cycles back on track! 🎉 have a good week day or night!!!
Qotw: swimming, fishing, no schooolllll!!!
Let’s goooo this is the first time I’ve been able to watch one of these in a year.
lets gooo!
My favorite summer activity is fishing. We just do catch and release. It's relaxing.
awesome!
Happy Monday Everyone.
Woke up this morning and put on my corygang shirt
My fav summer thing to do is wade through a stream in my local forest looking for cool rocks, pottery shards and moss. I even have a hiking bag with all kinds of tools to gather materials
awesome
Fav summer activities- longboarding, hiking with the fur babies and of course swimming
ooo cool
My favorite summer activity is taking care of the 16 fish tanks my girlfriend and I got over the last 3 months. Oh wait, that's sorta a newer thing...
Already 105°F here. Super special time of year and we consider that "still cool" 😂
dang
Depending on how hot it is, my favorite summer activity is watching the fish in my outdoor container pond. I guess it really depends on the time of day, sometimes I can feel the sun baking the back of my neck even in the winter. lol (well, I live in Florida there is no real winter)
My favourite series keep it going
I live in Texas where the sun is a weapon, so my favorite summer activity is NOT going outside in 100+°F weather 😩 But on better days, I like rollerblading at my nearby park!
hahaha
My fav summer time activity is trying to keep my aquariums from overheating
lmao! it is a challenge
You can literally see the electric eel zapping and stunning the fish.
It’s an ordinary fresh water eel. Not an electric eel.
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 You can tell by the way that it is.
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 I used to be an eel when I was itty bitty
I love that you don't wait until 5 minutes in before showing the thumbnail related clip.😊
yeah!!!
Just got my first fish in like 10 years, my own Cory gang, a shoal of 9 bronze Corydoras and 2 Ancistrus sp. Bristlenose for my 160 litre tank, and now fishtank review!
My favorite summer activities are visiting the local amusement parks, Cedar Point or Kings Island. My yearly camping trip to South Bass Island. South Bass Island is on Lake Erie. It is quite the little party island. During the week is the Put-In-Bay Jeep Invasion. Put-In-Bay is the town on the island. My campsite is in the state park. The site is cliffside, facing west onto Lake Erie...the sunsets are AWESOME! Also, watching thunderstorms roll in over the lake is intense.
sweeet
My favorite summer hobby is enjoying fishing with my friends and going home with some extra worms for my crawdads and frogs.
I am always so happy when I see that there is a new FTR!
yaaa!!
Fav summer activity is staying in my room that's cooled to 77F when it's +110F outside since this is Las Vegas. I'll be staring at my shrimp grazing in their tank and my frog chilling in her tank.
yessir
QOTW: i love swimming. I wait all year to swim in outdoor pools. as much as i love the sun, i burn so easily and i dont like the heat so its just swimming to cool off and rotting inside in front of an a/c to cool off
My favorite summer activity is sitting in ac not dying from the heat.
same
i had one of those 🗿 in my first tank..it was a lot smaller unfortunately, but i did keep him. he sits on my shelf now
Didn't anyone else notice that 1896 tank had a lid on it? Those poor animals were trying to get air and couldn't. I'm so glad fish keeping has made massive improvements. Also, ancient people kept food fish in small pools. That's one thing I wish I could go back in time and see.
aiya
I use the like button to keep track of which FTR video I've watched already.
I would usually stay in for summer, but I do want to go out more and see places.
great use of the like button!
Just wanted to say I bought two vases that look like that to scape. Mine are 10 inches around and 16 inches high which is right at 6 gallons. So bigger than you'd think. But I still haven't looked up which fish like vertical space yet.
11:30 is a great tank. Balanced Id even go further with this tank and put an extra colourful 10 male guppies to contrast all that greenery
Amazing video!!!!
QOTW:
I got my diving license 2 years ago and I absolutely love it!
exactly, kombucha explodes when the gas can't escape and it builds pressure. same thing in a closed ecosystem, if the gases build up then pressure builds and it explodes.
I love the rock climbing reference, it's nice when my hobbies overlap in the CZcams space 😊
:D yeah!!!
Not only do we get it on Tuesday, but it’s winter! Planets hey, crazy places.
wow, how is that possible, where are u LOL
this really is the best part of mondays
Haha Alexander Williamson posted a review on this 19th century tank a month ago. Fish Keepers were clueless back then and for 95% of people not much has changed...
Hmm, for the eastern island head. If you had a rock drill, or if this was in home depot, you could potentially put holes in certain parts to allow you to put in plants without having to try to glue or wedge them. Maybe some java or christmas moss to give it an aged, sunken look, and put it on it's side or on a bed of slate decor that looks a bit like a man made city. Not the most practical look, but lots of moss, moss balls, and some red floaters? Well, very expensive though, lol
I like night swimming. I have 2 colors, sour cream or cooked lobster. Swimming at night prevents the painful cooked lobster look.
Despite Chris having a larger channel with 2 million subs, he will never forget the real ogs here 🗣🗣🤗🤗
My fave hobby in summer is making sure the sun doesn't touch me. Keep me in indirect light/shade and water every 1-2 weeks.
lmao!
I’m watching this on the war back from the fish shop with some new wood I don’t need
haha
Happy monday!!!! I think that "Dragon Stone" is actually dragon wood. You can get a large peice for surprising very cheap in the US.
Getting my lures and hooks snagged while fishing
Father's Day is coming up!
me a German highly confused: wasn't that like 3 weeks ago?
Seriously questioned my perception of time for a second there.
woah, new video. i've never been here "live" like this before
I read somewhere that dwarf frogs like to float on the surface like that and it can be worrying every time they do that even though it fine.... I sure hope it's the case here... Also: woof woof 😂
Edit: according to forums, that book was wrong. 😢
The one from the 1800's they are carp, tench, pike, eel, roach, and frogs, that's 100% from the uk, the carp is a mirror carp
12:12 Ooh I know this one. The entire comment thread on reddit was straight up gold 😂
I've been cycling a new tank for the past two months and I can't tell you how many times I've been asked "Where are the fish?" I do want to add fish eventually but first I want to breed shrimp.
I saw a 299 gallon aquarium with fake hornwort and lilies. The Hallsters have 5 yellow tangs, 3 blue sea stars, 3 Striped damselfish 11 of them. Flame wrasses 6 of them. With fake corels. Than a solo betta 10 gallon aquarium. With pairete theme. Pond with map and painted turtles. Than pond with 8 discus fish 14 , siamese algae eaters., 12 pyrenan donkeys. 😊😊😊❤ it.
10:20 in all my tanganyika aquariums alter i had a Cyanobacteria spike there were always babies comming also my uaru love to chomp on algea that are growing in their tank when i clean glass of algea they always help me by eating stuff i scrub from glass
The editing is good
As someone who‘s had a 2.5gal container of kombucha explode.. this hit hard. I only realised once the whole fluid had already soaked into my wood floor completely as I had been letting it ferment behind the couch in darkness. oof.
Hi all. For anyone who doesn't know yet and those who like to DIY. You can make your own CO2 diffusion setup using a bottle with something fermenting inside it. Just wanted to put this comment out there after seeing that shrimp tank since most CO2 setups can be kind of expensive.
8:40 to carpet hair grass without CO2 just use a lot of light with very shallow water. Just get one of those shop lights for $30 that's 5k lumens and it will be more than enough
I love urchins but they steal things and wear them as hats before dropping them in random corners of the tank lolol. I need to go back to Japan too, I loved visiting all the parks. My fave summer activity is enjoying my koi outside 😂
Love your videos ❤ and i always laugh about your sarcasm 2:02
The evolution of fish keeping
The frogs aren't dying that is what they do to rest when there is no land, they're fine. That tank may have a lot more water than you think, because there may be continuous flow of river water in from one side and out through the other side.
I have 2 colours in the summer- milk white and lobster red (I dont tan !) I stay indoors eating ice lollies
intro was factssss
Chris probably has like 900 different ridge products now
LMAO
BRUH I KNEW YOU HAD A CHANNEL BUT NO ONE TOLD ME YOU HAD MORE THAN A MILLION SUBS ON CFT :0
Highly recommend "The Toy Fish: A History of the Aquarium Hobby in America: The First One-Hundred Years" by Klee. It's a really interesting read about the history of fish keeping! Unfortunately it's kinda hard to find now and expensive...I got it for $80 from a hobbiest selling his books last year.
QOTW: staying inside and playing video games.
Great vid.. keep it up ..
Just saying, aquatic insects totally should have a place in the aquarium hobby. I'm learning about them and hoping to set some up one day. I don't think they'll be ideal for everyone or even most tanks, but I really want to encourage the hobby to play with them and see what's possible.
Are we just… going to ignore the pictures in the background?
Buff squidward lol 😂😂
Summer vacation!
I’ve done an elocharis carpet without co2. You need strong lighting and it needs to be a small tank. Also you need to plant dense from the start. I used a nicrew clip on full spectrum. Also the tank needs to be established before planting elocharis. From my experience it won’t take to a new tank.
1:10 repeat after me
"I do not recognize the body in the water "
I love bouldering, roller coasters and riding motorcycles, but my body does not. I had to give them all up when my shoulders started dislocating under my weight, getting whiplash on coasters and my knees and hips couldn’t support the weight of my bike.
Wow, I didn't know fish from the 18 hundreds were only in black and white! Wonder when they got the color update.
I think it came shortly after the blacklight
Also I forgot to ask you to check the opening for Magical girl Destroyers opening. It's super interesting wat they do to the fish
Great vidoe keep it up..
