@fish for thought I don't know what I'm doing here.....I don't even have fish. Lol. But for some reason I've been binge watching your videos. I do keep plants though so I really appreciate the beauty and life in the fish tanks you feature. As a plant person, I wonder why I only ever see regular pothos at the top of tanks!?!? There are some incredibly beautiful plants, including other pothos such as N'joy and snow queen that would really add a pop to the aesthetics of your tanks! I also want to add, I'm shocked by the size of some of these tanks.....I see them and I think vase or tiny terrarium. Lol.

I was explaining to my dad that goldfish shouldn't be kept in bowls because they will die and he said "no one cares if their goldfish dies anyway"...
On a positive note, he's seen how I've been raising my bettas (one in a 29 gal another in a 10 gal) and said he thought they only needed 1 gallon. When I said the smallest was 5 gallons, he actually respected that.

Ah yes, I too made the classic mistake of putting a goldfish in a bowl, but I was 15. That poor guy lived for 48 hours, gasping for air all night at the surface. I never felt so bad for a pet like I did that 28 cent goldfish. That taught me the importance of actual tanks with filters & oxygen. Agree 100%! And when my kids want a pet, I make them research first; give them a list of questions they need to answer (housing, food, lifespan, etc). If they don't care enough to do that, they really don't want the pet.

I work at a big box pet store and I’ve NEVER seen fish sit still like that. Some will stay more still than others as they wake up, but that looks insane. My first instinct is that there is basically no water flow in those tanks. Did you notice the surface of the water was hardly even rippling? Probably very little oxygen in that water too

  • @brickosaurus2276
    @brickosaurus2276 Před rokem +17

Single-tailed goldfish can max out at different sizes. It can depend on how they were raised or the conditions they were in before they were sold. 5 years ago I got two single tails that I found dying at the bottom of an almost empty betta cup at Walmart (idk why they were there, I think someone did it as a sick joke)
Anyways I ended up putting them in a 10g which regret so much now, but at the time I didn't know their tank was WAY too small, and it ended up stunting their growth. I later moved them to a 30g which they seemed to have maxed out in. After two years I learned that they needed a much bigger tank, and I did the best I could with my budget.
They are now in a 55g but so far they haven't seemed to have grown any bigger. One is about 7 and a half inches, and the other is almost 6 inches.
For now, the tank is big enough for them, and they are very happy and healthy. I'm going to be keeping them in the 55g unless they start getting bigger. I have plans to set up a big indoor pond for them in the next couple of years. But I'm pretty sure they are maxed out.
Even though I failed in the past with those fish, I still love them and I never want anything bad to happen to them. It makes me so sad to see people like the ones in the first clip treat beautiful fish like that

I made sure they got more than enough space and got some Glowlight Tetras (the black ones with the orange stripes) yes the neons were more pretty but I heard they are inbred to heck and back and have a high death rate no matter how much you try. Months in they are thriving and even live with a single neon in their school since he had been the only neon in the store left and he'd been swimming around with the glowlights. He and his glowlight buddies are thriving so far, got them the best food, plenty of hiding places, floating plants etc. I have even spotted breeding behavior in them which tends to signify they are well fed and needs are met too. I really can't wrap my head around people buying fish and treating them more like toys/decorations.

The first tik tok pains me as I’ve just set up a new cold water fish tank which is 190 litres as goldfish need at least 60 litres each and no ornaments with holes in as they can get stuck and no spiky plants and I know I should of gone for sand but I’ve gone for big enough gravel that they won’t choke on and I’ve spent weeks getting the water at the right levels as the ph and ammonia was too high

I found that fine sand was the best with blood parrots👌🏻 And alot of Vallisneria americana «Gigantea», yeah they nibble at the plants, but they grow like crazy so it keeps the tank pretty❤️

My family had 3 goldfish when I was a kid, we kept them in a tank that was probably about 2.5 - 5 gallons (don’t remember the exact size cause I was about 8 years old) with a filter and plants. First and last fish we ever had but we kept them well for years with no pretty much problems (my little brother fed my fish a fried egg and it died, but he was trying to be nice 😭) and eventually gave them away to a good home when we could no longer care for them. I have some empathy for people who are ignorant about fish care if they’re willing to try to do better, but there isn’t much excuse when a family with 3 children who live in the middle of nowhere and have no internet can still accommodate fish properly.

When I was in middle school, I had a tank with gold fish. The tank was doing pretty good, but then I added plecos to help clean it. It all went to hell, no matter how much cleaning I did it would get extra dirty fast. All the gold fish died because the water wasn’t right. The plecos survived. What did I learn? Never put a pleco in a tank to clean it. especially when your tank isn’t big enough to add any extra fish. I also learned, research in advance before you get any type of pet. Also research during. And don’t be afraid to ask professionals questions.

The daughter asked where you going to keep it. The mum points to the bottom shelf and says I'll grab one of these bowls. 😢 my heart just broke for that fish.

Hey so I just recently found your channel and no joke when I heard you say that bettas shouldn't live an anything less then a 5 gallon I thought you where crazy 😅 but after being weird about my beautiful betta fish i started to do some research (outside of books) and I've found that this channel is helping me alot tysm for the work you put in to your videos so you can help ignorant people like me 😊 now I have a question about my betta he is green and gold half-moon betta and I've had him for about 6 months and I've been keeping him in a 1.5 gallon "tank" and I'm really wanted to get him a 10 gallon planted tank. I'm looking in to it now and I'm trying to do all the research before I set it up and I wanted to know if I could put a few neon tetras in the 10 gallon with the betta? I've been trying to research it but some people say they will kill them others say they will eat them and some say that they can safely live with them. So I'm kinda confused on that what you'd you suggest? But thanks so much for your time fish for thought and have a great rest of the week!!!!

Hi! Neon tetra can generally go with bettas, but I wouldn't put them in a ten gallon. They like to have a lot of swimming space and prefer to be in larger schools. If you're worried about your tank being empty with just a betta, it probably won't! I have a 20 gallon with one betta, some amano shrimp and a few nerite snails. My betta loves swimming through the plants and definitely uses all the space! Especially if you have cool plants. I'm so happy you are going to give your betta a bigger tank 😊 It will be really happy!

The thing with fish abuse is, many people want cheap easy pets. They assume, think, or have been told/seen fish kept cheaply and want the same. These people don't research because they don't even know to. It's rare someone gets a fish and throws it in a vase knowingly and intentionally. Many people don't even understand the fish they see were or are juveniles/baby's or that many species come from eggs for example. Once they do find out what they are doing is wrong and start looking to do it right they quickly realize it's no longer a cheap easy affordable pet but a grossly expensive labor intensive pet that requires learning and effort and that all upfront is to much for the average person.
