Nice tank and nice fish. You can easily have plants. Plants turn ammonia into nitrates and then to nitrites. Plants are fundamental for nature based aquariums. There are ways to have plants with digger cichlids. You can have mesh planters with many thick house plants even. Bamboos, pothos or many other options. There is a will and there is a way.

Great video CC. You deserve a sponsorship for the quality advertising. Both the stock selection and aquarium are quite nice, I'm sorry for the losses though. The tank would look absolutely amazing planted, but I'm well aware of how destructive certain cichlids can be. If your running a refugium reservoir on the sump, maybe you could grow pothos cuttings to help with the bioload. Great showcase of one of their larger aquariums. I'm placing an order for a 150 gal tall...any larger and I'll burn a hole in my pocket 😂😂 Your guys will definitely hit a growth spurt due to the free real estate. Cheers

WOW, this tank is a monster, what a blessing you had some help moving it into your house, and for the sump, eek it's huge, that just looks like a nightmare for me to even attempt putting together, awesome job for you doing so. OK all those cool fish, I can't wait to see them grow into stunners just a fun group. My Jack was a real mean jerk ending up in his own tank for many years, but he was a really handsome dude. Nice one young man welcome to the 10 ft cichlid tank club. From my experience the green terrors grow very fast and will hold their own certainly with any in that tank. JD's grow very slowly and will get left behind in size but an amazing looking fish when they mature. Oscars dont have a place with aggressive central americans but in your tank will go perfect. I think youve chosen really well congrats.
One you could look at is Vieja Melanurus. I think one of the less aggressive Viejas. They grow super fast and amazing colours. Mine just goes around minding his own business
Thanks for sharing your expertise. I really wanted a vieja, but I know they are a bit more aggressive than what I’ve chosen. However, it’s good to know there is a variation that is less aggressive - I’ll keep an eye out for one!
I remember about 6 months ago we had a convo about mbuna ina 75 gallon and I have now had the tank established for 4 months today😊
Four months - that’s awesome! Those mbuna are fun. Sometimes I look at the tank and it looks like I have no fish. All in their caves. Then poof - there they all are! 🤪

The American cichlids are more used to woods and a water with a lot more of tannins, but that's an awesome aquarium and a big sump men, hope they can all get along and have a happy life in that tank man
I won’t be having tannins, but the Aquadecor I installed after this video will make it feel a lot more like home to them. I mentioned those rocks were just temporary. Thank you!

Thank you! So the tank by itself would be around $5,000. The sump system is somewhere around half that. And good news - the Aquadecor arrived and it’s in already. You can see it Saturday.

Thank you! Yes it is. I am still fine tuning it though. I think it will be acceptable once I get it just right, but it will always be noisier than a canister so believe.
I think you will really dig the Electric Blue Herichthys. As it matures, it will be as beautiful as just about any fish in the hobby. Your rainbow will change colors quite a bit as well.

I have most of your American Cichlids my favorite is the green terror you should think about getting a Vieja they are great with amazing colors.
Thank you! I love the vieja, but they have a nasty reputation. It’s one I would probably get if I had a more aggressive stocking list.

Your nicaraguan, salvini, GT and carpintis can get a bit aggressive for some of the others. You seem ready though if something doesn't go as planned. The panda uaru are also quite sensitive at times so be prepared for that. Anyway it will be fun to see these fish grow and mature over time 👍
Thanks for the heads up. Yep, I’m ready. The blue Texas is already showing why I almost didn’t even try him. Might be catching him and relocating him soon if he does not settle down.
what overflow box is that you have installed cant really see it and what is the overflows you have installed inside the tank. love the tank i have all s/a cichlids myself

All I have to say is wow on that 10 foot tank. The stocking choices are so good. The only thing you’re missing is a Firemouth cichlid and an Electric Blue Acara. The colors on the EBA and on a Firemouth. Are so pretty. I have a salvini in my CA /SA cichlids tank and he or she is doing just fine and my tank is only 4ft across. Salvinis are pretty when they get bigger. That is a low stocking for that tank I and sure you are going to add more fish later correct. Man I wish my wife would let me get a 10 ft tank lol. 😂 you need some geos in that tank to clean up the substrate. I recommend a AC heckali as a geo they get really pretty. Appreciate the video and man when you go big you go big. Maybe in the future can we get a walkthrough now of all the tanks you have and the stocking once the new tank is setup fully with stocking.
I e been waiting to hear from you, Jeremy 🤩. If you take a longer look at the 180 in this video, you’ll see at least one EBA in there. I actually have three, and I plan on putting them all in the big tank. I’m not a fan of firemouths for some reason, so I probably won’t get one. But the geos, yes. Sveni will be at least one type - seven of ‘em. I’ll probably want some dither fish, but I really don’t want rainbow fish or silver dollars. I wonder if Congo tetras would do well in there?? I haven’t researched them, but they would look great. What do you think?
@@CichlidCharmer Congo tetras are beautiful fish. I have some in my 55 gal and they work great for dither fish. The blues on them are amazing. Great stocking choice. Hopefully you got a green terror that has the orange tail. He is pretty I have one in my tank. You could also get some Denison barbs they are pretty as well and work good as dither fish. Or put both the Congos and the Denison barbs in the tank.

Awesome tank mate, be careful adding peaceful SA cichlids in their even with the tank size, fish like salvini although small are best kept with large CA cichlids.
Male Nicaraguan cichlids can also be quite the terrorisers.

Nice tank, but I sincerely hope you put some love in the biotope, and please not a straight line of those tiny rocks, put some boulders in there, huge trunks of driftwood. Create depth. Its a big tank. It deserves some love.
You’ll see. I’m setting it up tomorrow. I had to put those rocks in there temporarily to give some hides.

Having kept all of these fish over my decades in the hobby I have to say your mix is a little risky. You have a very wide range of not only adult sizes, but also aggression levels. I think (due to tank size) you may get away with it but I would scape in a ton of hiding spots and sight breaks. Regardless...I feel like this is gonna be a great series of videos as you go through the process. Thank you!
Thank you for the comment and the tips. I am aware that the combination is risky. I am gambling that the 10 foot tank will make it possible. But since I am an African Cichlid keeper, I know what to do when things get dicey

Good question! I actually had b roll for that and didn’t use it because of the length of the video. I stole some bio media from my fx6 filter on the 180. Instantly cycled.

nice videos just a heads up your salvini is a female you can tell by the small dark blotches on the bottom of her gill covers males don't have them its also lucky as females a significantly brighter than males. I have a large south and central american cichlid tank also and have many of the same fish you have along with a female salvini "sally" she is fine with everyone they do like a cave though and she hangs out in there all day and just chases anyone from taking it from her.
