Season 1, Episode 2. A "self-defense" subway shooting prompts legal chaos when questions arise about who the real victim is.
This is the official CZcams channel for Law & Order. Watch all of the official clips from the series, some of the best moments from within the criminal justice system, where the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: The police, who investigate crime, and the district attorneys, who prosecute the offenders.

It's great seeing these two detectives at different times lose their temper with inconsiderate people.
One of the things I loved about the first series is the late 80s music and fashions:).
P
Law and order
That's 1990 for ya (this episode aired in 1990, hence why I said it's 1990).
@@thetexanhusky I think the "first" episode was filmed in late 80's, if I remember.
It's not shown as the first episode, but you can tell by the lighting, film grain, and how the city appears.
@@Sneedmire I already know.
This music sounds like it came from a Sega Genesis game.
Look how young Capt. Cragen was!
He almost has hair! :)
He even sounds young
IKR
these stories STILL seem relevant today. Thats great writing...
Its still funny seeing them use a PAY PHONE.. today theyd be complaining in their cell phone :)
The old episodes are the best
This was first season epi.
But they's been chopped from 4:3 to 16:9
At least they’re not law and order svu post-cragen
I love the dynamic of them. Logan will learn from Greevey and he'll end up being his partner's last partner. I'd be honoured
Gotta love the good cop bad cop routine!
"You got a wise mouth."
Better than having a dumb one.
The end... there is a wrong way- and a right way in communication- arrogance gets you nowhere.
This opening music is crazy catchy!
The music at the beginning had me 😂😂😂😂😂
3:38 - The chief's reaction is priceless here. :)
You know this old! Public Telephones!🧐
I like Greevy and Logan together. They always clash with their ideologies and perspective in this case (also about abortion, and homosexuality, so far what i've seen). It's good to see both sides
Not Briscoe. Mike Logan.
@@DJ-fn3jm my bad. Corrected it now. Thanks
More please! Seeing these og episodes being posted is the highlight of my day ☺️
I didn't realise Anubis was hiding out in Earth law enforcement D:
thats his form before he ascended.
This was only the second episode of the entire series. These episodes were raw and gritty, and I preferred them that way to the spit shine and polish they became in later years. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the series, and I spent all 20 years enjoying it. It's just that the quaLity of the time was better, in my opinion. The television detective world of 1990 showed the real raw side of the times. And Greevy was thinner 😁 Even the music was gritty.
To be fair, the show basically shows the change in the city over the course of its run! The NYC of the 80s and 90s was a lot grittier than what it became during the ‘00s and decades after
Part of it was that 'straight from the headlines' formula (which focused on realistic crimes) became harder to write new crime scenarios, so to keep things 'interesting', they had to push up the bizarro factor. The crimes got weirder and more sensationalistic. They also, over time, developed a bad case of "Debate & Switch"--setting up some sort of moral or ethical conflict through two-thirds of the episode, only to have some revelation make the whole thing moot in the final act.
That 80's cop music. You gotta love it.
5:52 Wardrobe Malfunction huh?
Miranda Hobbs & Mr. Big!
From the start, this scene already feel so different than the later seasons I'm used to...
Love these clips
I love the look of NY
Girl I’m so confused
4:39 those baby harness work like a charm
YEE..AY!! Another one! 😈... Look Michael the lady didn’t wanna share her damn apples back off!
Ha. Nutcracker oh Mr. Big & those 1 liners
When they walked in the subway i could smell the wet cement and pee... In my head...
Don't worry, it now smells like old cement and fresh pee.
I miss when they used to name the episodes. Not just here but every other show.
If I remember correctly, this is based off an actual case with the exact same situation. Can't remember what it's called, I'd have to look it up.
It's actually 42nd Street Station. Not 23rd Street.
Cheesy 80s music from Mike Post.
"I seen what I seen." 😄
Oh hey, Cynthia Nixon is listed in the credits. She must have just been at the very start of her career
nope...she was a child actor, " Manhattan project"' ' little darlings" she starred in dozens of tv shows and movies before this was filmed in this episode shes the killer
@@lapidarybyandy oh right, I didn't know she's been a child actor, but she must still have been quite a young actor when this was filmed. She was born in 66, so she'd be... what? 35 at most in this one?
thegreenmanofnorwich she is the shooter
@@thegreenmanofnorwich more like 25. The show premiered in 1990.
Anyone recognize George Dzundza
from BASIC INSTINCT?
Also, there's even mention
of an Ice Pick here.
Sharon Stone... In SVU later on...
@@TheBatugan77ADA Jo Marlowe!
"Gunwoman. … gun*person*." Did you just assume her species?
Also, I love how Greevey's looking at Logan ranting and raving at the poor operator. Especially when his eyes follow Logan's hand, like, "God, I hope he doesn't reach for his gun and put a few holes into that phone."
Ha ha ha ha
I’m a Mets fans I hate the Yankees “ me: aren’t we all Mets fans lol
These are older than me
You’re not alone, I wasn’t born until 1993. So yeah, pretty much older than both of us
Less than 2:30 minutes - 'I didn't do nothin' - twice.
That music sounds like the one from Clint Eastwood’s movies of his Calahan Character
They were born on december 25th 2019 in research medical center in kansas city missouri.
Why didn't anyone try to help that girl if they saw her being groped? Tell those guys to back off or pull them off her? This whole thing could have been prevented.
typical new yorkers. since law abiding civs aren't allowed to carry guns they couldn't help
you put your hands on the perv and you get charged with assault and battery
its the sad state of society we live in nowadays.
Back then (I feel so old saying those words lol) if you saw something, and wanted to live, you minded your own business. I was that toddler’s age when this was filmed, and living in Los Angeles, and women just looked away and tried to ignore the assaults hoping it would just be annoying and not violent.
Love that intro
Love the super 80s soundtrack.
If someone was waving an ice pick at me..i sure wouldnt stand still...if i had a gun..i would first threaten them..to leave me alone....i think maybe this lady was just to freaked out..and just shot out of fear...
you are not required to warn, in fact warning damages your claim of self defense. you pull and fire with the intention of stopping ie make dead the threat
That blood looks like strawberry jam.
Ha ha
They were born christmas day.
It's very calming. Forget gb exists literally
6:07 is that Kathleen Quinlan?
Logan picking up shells before Forensics had a chance to photograph the scene?
Talk about your nutcracker 😏
These are my cousins twice removed Lenny and Nora from the TV show law and order who I love them with all my heart 💕❤️💓❤️💓❤️.
2:15 Ax'd? Same dude, same
First episode baby
I am glad they dropped this music, would have been harder to take the show seriously.
“Any leads on the gunman?”
“Gun *woman.”*
::shrugs::
“Gun *person.”*
I dunno why, but that took me out. 😆
I forgot they used to put the title in the show
I literally that one guy just holding his radio music biss pomp up when he enter there was no way that he could have reached out to the woman. Those 90 or 80 products was heay
The music just doesn’t seem like it belongs in the Law and Order universe. xD
Police business runs on my side of the family for 23 years of my life 😅😅😅😅.
The man that would be Anubis.....
Mike has a short fuse
Pay phone.😃
These early episodes look grainy and a mid 80's feel with that shitty turn of the decade 70s to 80's music to top it off LOL
You really dont see a tv show going through changes as times change. An evolution of of the direction of the show, topics, fashion, music etc.
Vanna White????
Totally not based on Bernard Goetz.
Hero
Who's the actress that played Mrs. Putterman?
Guncrackers Nutshot😊
I love Law & Order but episodes and writing like this makes me angry at times. Racism is very real these episodes are true tellings how police and citizens think and act.
Akuma Uzamaki I think that’s part of the point of the show, especially watching as a more modern audience. It’s so realistic and it’s good to see a realistic portrayal of the systemic inequality within law enforcement in a diverse community.
you do know the other guy who got shot had a record of multiple murders right? why should they have a passive interrogation with someone who was involved with such a person? the cops did their jobs...
I like the original L&O compared to SVU nowadays. The earlier seasons of L&O feels real with their interactions to the cases really feeling like a struggle, instead of SVU where almost every episode is a conviction.
lmao 2 shitbags harrassed a lady and get shot for it, and all you got out of that is "muh racism"?
this is your brain on leftism.
...racism? Where exactly?
Love the end where Mike is a male Karen to the phone operator, l.bet she wasn’t too far off either.
Poor forensics there picking up the casing with a pen
better then by hand.
Bike 🚴
POAT NCIN mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmking?
Dez nuts
"i dint do nuffin'" - he actually said it - lmao.
Lol was that corny as music used in the opening scenes for all the first season?
Next clip: self defense or racial bias
"Axed" is one of the worst americanisms ever.

From Prima Ballerina to Nazi Killer, The Story Of Franceska Mann
axed
😄😄😄
Actually, gunman is a proper term as it is gender neutral in this case.
This is so far away from modern trash SVU it's not funny.
Wow! This show is so racist yet no one seems to remember it that way.
News for you. NYC detectives were pretty racist, then AND now. Remember, the show is a reflection of its time
Racist? Yeah ok, try again race baiter
If you're talking about the black guy at the hospital bed, he was a known criminal already
damn this shit was racist as fuck lmaooooooooo
No. It wasn't.
the overt antiblackness does not age well in these shows.
it was over anti-crime. the black woman supported the white woman
If thugs point an icepick at me they won't age at all.
Based on this real life incident…
