New York, Susquehanna & Western 2-8-2 142 operates on the Delaware River Railroad of Phillipsburg, New Jersey. The engine puts on a good show with a six-car train as it follows the former PRR line along the Delaware River.
This SY type was built by the Tangshang Locomotive Works in China in 1989. It originally ran on the Essex Steam Train, but was sold to the Susquehanna Railroad in 1992 for special excursion operation. Since 2005, the 142 has been operated by the NYS&W Technical & Historical Society on the Belvidere and Delaware Railroad, aka the Delaware River Railroad. - Auta a dopravní prostředky

That engine sounds sharp! Someone knew what they were doing when they set the valves.
Much enjoyed, thank you. Impressive pace and sound from this loco. Loved the parallel filming from the road... unusual for us to see road and rail so close together without a barrier but it makes for great video. Best wishes, Bob K.
Glad you enjoyed.
Wonderful video, thumbs up :)
Thanks
I like this engine! I think my grand parents rode on in upstate New York in 1996-98
im not a big fan of chinese engines in america, But they did an excellent job making her look American. its Almost Un Noticeable, Besides the cab.
I would like to go back to this railroad once their done with her rebuild. It has been awhile since I've visited there
It’s been out since the end of the 2017 season. No word yet when it will return.
@@DynamoProductions-trains damn, well I hope it will be within the next two years or so
Dynamo Productions Financial reasons has delayed the 142’s rebuild to 2021. NYS&W T&HS doesn’t want to put a marker on a time when it’ll be done because then they’ll end up like C&O 1309’s crew being slandered by 60+ foamers about how they can’t keep track of the time.
@@westportalrailfan1035 Does that mean her rebuild won't start until next year or are you saying she won't be back until next year?
@@shanewalters4171 She won't be back until atlest Next Year. And with all the Covid-19 guidelines the crews have to socially distance while they work, making the process even slower.
Really miss the locomotives 😢😢
Really amazing train .Thank you for this video.
Glad you enjoyed
Ive driven through that area and have never seen it running yet. Now I know why.😃 Good to know! Maybe after its running again i can catch it on a run by
Good video 🚂💯✔
Thanks
Hope to see her running again in a few years. Since this is 142's first rebuild and his been undegoing it for 2 years since she entered it. I'd say with 2 years of work gone by now she might be ready by 2022 or 2023 if all goes well but not gonna jinx it
No word yet when it will return.
@@DynamoProductions-trains as long as they finish it im the future that's all I care about
SHE'S ALIVE! Oh my god this is one of my most favorite steam engines on the face of the planet, and she's so young too! I just wish they kept her Chinese whistle, like IAIS did with their QJs.
Glad you agree
I want to ride this engine ! What a beauty !
Hopefully it will be running next year or so.
Can't wait until her 1472 is done!
Isn't the 142 down for her 1,472 as of right now?
Yes, it’s been down for rebuild since the 2017 season ended.
This steam locomotive is actually Chinese built. It was ordered from China by the Valley Railroad of Essex Connecticut and today it operates excursions on the New York Susquehanna and Western Railway under a historical society.
All of that is in the description
Wasn’t frank Capalbo working for the Delaware RIver Railroad now, because he worked for BR&W in the 80s and 90s
Neat video! Thank you. So, steam locomotives have a whistle (as in "I heard that lonesome whistle blow"), and diesels have a horn?
Is this old footage that you have or are they still running with this going on?
Anyway awesome video
StrasburgZ 90 Productions old footage. 142 had been out of service for a few years for is 1472. It should be back soon, however
MPT 1225 oh ok thanks on the info MPT 1225 btw nice meeting up with you at Strasburg for the 611 event
StrasburgZ 90 Productions no problem. Not sure when we met. When did we?
MPT 1225 it was at the red caboose motel you were waiting for 90 to come and getting set up and then I walked over
looks beautiful
Thanks
@@DynamoProductions-trains wut year is that
@@JACESOFFICIAL It was shot in 2013
@@DynamoProductions-trains its an rxursion star right
@@JACESOFFICIAL It hasn't run on the mainline in 15 years. It's a tourist engine now.
What whistle is heard here?? Sounds like 3254’s 5 chime when it squealed crazily
It’s a replica 5 chime, modeled after a CB&Q 5 chime.
When was this filmed?
That was 2013 with additional shots taken in 2016.
D&RGW 5 chime?
What happened to her original whistle? Been wondering for so long
It’s in storage.
8:00 - 8:21 what whistle is that? It kind of sounds like sp 2472's sp 6 chime
That is an SP 6 chime, there's plenty of them still around.
@@DynamoProductions-trains thanks. And just wondering, would a chinese Sy class mikado look like if it was dressed up as a virginian railway class mb mikado?
And would a QJ class 2-10-2 like 6988 look good as a Delaware and hudson locomotive like reading 2102 as d&h 302
Is China still building steam engines? And will they be able to do so if an order is placed for a new steam locomotive?
They stopped building new steam engines in China about 20 years ago. There have been some proposals to bring in more steam from China, but they would be overhauled engines originally built in the 80s or 90s.
So no?
I mean China could build the boiler and other important parts, but, the other cosmetic modifications to make it look like an American modal could be done so all the credit doesn't go to China for building a replica of a scrapped steam engine
They don’t build new engines, there’s just enough spare parts lying around that the remaining steam engines can still be fixed pretty easily.
#142 was built in 1989. China ran steam until a while ago. Mainly on freight trains and switching. Passenger trains in China are usually electric and maybe diesel.
The coaches used in the consist. Are those p74’s from the Long Island?? Or P72’s
Yes they’re former Long Island
@@DynamoProductions-trains couldn’t tell if they were P74 or 72
Sad she doesn’t have her red cow catcher and red drive wheels
It hasn't had that red paint for about 30 years
Where’s Mike Bednar???
Is this the only steam locomotive that runs on the Delaware River Railroad?
This is the only steam engine they have. The 142 is currently getting rebuilt.
@Dynamo Productions Ok, It would be nice if the had at least 2-3
Susquehana 142 was my first staem loco to ride regarding ACL 143 witch is at lakes park in southwest flordia(fort myers) also i would love if K&L made a model of ACL 143 and NY&SW 142
Is there an English version of this comment?
Unfortunately I see a lot of empty coach seats.
It was a photo special, most of the riders were trackside getting photos and video.
