This Film Should Have Won Best Picture for 1992. It is the most beautiful powerful and glorious films of the world. It is truly authentic, just not the colonists' version. I adore Julie Dash and so happy about the choice of Kerry James Marshall as her Creative Designer. This is beauty in cinema. Better than all other films ever made. Thank you so much Julie Dash for creating cinema.

I was not familiar with her film 'Daughters of the Dust' but I am going to find it and watch it. Julie Dash is truly Unsung! Her film came out in the midst of the Black Film Renaissance and got lost in the sauce, and although Spike Lee, Robert Townsend, The Huddlin Brothers, and the Black Film Foundation supported her she still went by the wayside! So, I can understand why she would be excited about a reemergence of her images in a contemporary art form! If the movie were released again now, I think it would be better appreciated! 😉

    Your film was so authentic!
so sad for those that don't truly know the lineage of Africa spirituality. I study Umbanda, there was so much richness woven in. The fact that you had Nana wearing what I see as purple, is the color of Nana Boriqia in the line of Umbanda. I'm so blessed to have come across this movie. Thank you 🙏
Wearing white is what you were in Umbanda ceremonies called Gira's. I'm an initiate in the line of Umbanda..
