Manchester City have an enormous week of football ahead of them as they prepare to face Atletico Madrid in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola was asked about a comparison between himself and the Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone, given that they started their managerial careers at a similar time.
Manchester City's big clash against Atletico comes only a few days before an all important Premier League fixture against Liverpool.

Imagine taking a 6th place team to winning La Liga twice, never dropping below top 3, always playing UCL, winning a couple of Europa Leagues and reaching two UCL finals, and then there is some clueless journalist who dares disrespect you? Also while competing with the two best teams in the history of football, and with a limited budget, unlike some coaches that can buy anyone they want. Some teams do play defensive football, but if that wins you games, why should you change? I don't hear you guys disrespecting the Chelsea team that won their first ever UCL trophy while playing a mega defensive game.

Last UCL trophy from Chelsea only had a defensive masterclass in the final mostly after 40mins tbf, dominated Atletico in ro16, Dominated Porto and destroyed Madrid in Semis, I know 2012 was a more cautious one but that’s due to lack of quality in the side but facing prime barca/Bayern and an interim coach at the time

Atletico is the 3rd biggest club in Spain so no real surprise if they win a few domestic competitions. But their style of play is awful, especially compared to back in the day when Atletico were renowned for their attacking flair and no less successful in the days of Jesus Gil.....

@@panchopuskas1 Exactly, I have no idea where this "6th place team" and "keeping them in the top 3" nonsense comes from.
Atletico Madrid are a HUGE club within Spain and have been so way before Simeone turned up.
11 League Titles, 10 Copa Del Rays and have won big trophies in every decade since the 60s.
Them being in 6th when he took over was not a true reflection of the clubs stature and they should ALWAYS be comfortably in the top 3.
Having said that, he has done a great job against the likes of Barca and Real so credit to him for that and with such a small budget in comparison.
But let's not act like Atletico Madrid where some minnows before he got there.

    Thank you!
When Liverpool where trashed aside by AM the English pundits were crying.. literally complaining and whining about how the better team lost. A load of crap.
    The better team won.
The team who carried out their mission better was AM on that night hence the won.
Style of play is style of play.
Game winning means your team was better.

In the second leg, Adrian’s mistake, and I mean literally ONLY Adrian’s mistake, cost liverpool the tie. He was the only nervous man in the ground at the time of his mistake.
Besides, Liverpool learned their lesson and won both home and away comprehensively against atletico in the champions league this season.

Diego simeone is a tactician. Pipo van sah alot of things about him, but my opinion is Diego Elcho Simeone is a great coach with good brains and he really understands football very well. Athletico have won a lot of trophies under his management. Simeone doesnt play terrible football he understands his opponents and considers his strength and weakness and that helps him to know the kind of football to play. Certain teams concede alot of goals because they dont put into consideration their weakness. Being in the quarter finals and playing champions league every season is not easy.
