How fast can you press a button? What about 16 times/sec?

the trick is to tense your arm up to the point where it starts to vibrate
It's really funny because I was extremely good at this when I was younger, but couldn't use it anywhere because I would hit faster than the gamecube controller could properly input, so I'd lose every button-mashing minigame in Mario Party if I did it.
I do that when playing with my lazy-ass cat and he jiggles and really likes it haha
No one seems to get this when I explain it
It's weird - like it's a really hard thing to describe how to do. You just kind of do it.
Yeah but jittering isnt consistent. Theres no rythm, its only good for high cps
In NES Tetris there's a technique called Rolling, which isn't unbelievably hard, and those who've spent some time to master it can consistently mash over 20hz.
is this where you tap the bottom of controller instead of the button itself?
@@fernando4959 yes
In Minecraft people can click 60+cps
@@wrog268 that doesn't count because that isn't actually 1 physical input per digital input. getting 60 cps requires a mouse to double click and low debounce time.
though to be clear, that's 20hz peak, NOT 20hz sustained, which is what is discussed in the video. very useful for tetris (move 4/5 squares almost instantly) but not this.
I love that your old videos are getting recommended now (maybe because of that amazing Jan documentary you made) . These are such underrated gems.
A two player button mashing competition...
Did you mean... Minecraft pvp?
lmaoo
love your videos, relatively boring information presented in such a fun way, you get hooked
my favorite video from the video essay mixtape! Thanks for uploading separately
I grew up with MGS and that torture stage made me develop this kind of skill
If you remember "track and field" for nes, they already made a 2 player "mash" the button the fastest games a long time ago. As well as the mario party series of games... they all have variations on this mechanic as a form of competition.
Happy to have found your channel!
i play simple games like this all the time with my students(elementary). they love it, if you go to the timer you can play max hits where you hit the flags on the timer as many times in an agreed amount of time. another game is hitting the start and stop on the timer twice to get a single fastest speed. (usually only milliseconds). and the last one is where a student hits the start button and tries to stop it exactly at a given time like 3 seconds. -in addition you can play this with your eyes closed.
Pretty nice video, will keep an eye on you, your voice is really satisfying btw.
Of course all the most based youtubers love rhythm heaven. First Jan Misali and now I see you talk about it too
a fellow jan misali fan??? heck yeah
bruh
I remember him from Game Center CX (Season 1 episode 5). He shows up and helps Arino with getting the bonus at Star Force.
Can't wait for battle of bikini bottom rehydrated
I'm able to cap out at 11 clicks a second, pushing in those extra clicks are pretty tough. Funny enough, the technique he uses is the same as mine. You strain your thumb and index finger together, then tense your bicep. With enough practice you can get clicking pretty damn quick.
so jitter clicking?
@@jazzyazz3462 didn't know it had a name, just something I've been doing since I was a kid lol
I get maximum 10
went up to ~15 cps
Always love a good core memory of the Tiki Minigolf music.
I need to see how fast this guy can beat ocelot torture in MGS1
To get astronomical scores in Track & Field in 89, we used to put a comb between the two buttons and rock it over the middle finger of one hand while tapping it with the other.
I looooocs rhythm heaven fever so much
Great content
How fast can you push a button? Yes.
This is actually super common in Minecraft. Within 1.7/1.8 pvp (Earlier patches of Minecraft) a decently big part of it is vibrating your arm like he probably does, to click as quickly as possible. This is a bit tougher though cause you need to aim along with it
some dudes do like 30 clicks per second with drag clicking
@@itsfolf2 yeah, but jitter and drag are very different. I can do a version of bawl clicking and get over 100, but I can only jitter like 18.
This is really funny to me because one time I went a click per second calculator which said 16 cps was the world record, the website lagged and I got 22 cps. But also people can definitely get more that 16cps. I've peaked at 18cps.
16cps is definitely not the record I have friends that average 20 in minecraft pvp, personally I average 15-16 if I am playing casually
@@hivemind8817 That's because mouses like yours double click sometimes. you aren't actually clicking that fast, but the mouse registers 1 click as 2. Actually clicking 20 times per second is basically impossible.
"i have friends that max out at the exact tick rate of the game and are not botting" sure
@@hivemind8817 maybe because.. there’s a difference between pressing on a small button and clicking on a mouse?!?! Surprising I know right.
Due to newer technology, you factually can just click faster than an old button on a console, and obviously other techniques are possible, like drag clicking which can get you over 20 cps without too much difficulty.
@@TheOddOrigin nobody was talking about console but you, so idk what your trying to correct me on.
this guy can get armstrong's health to zero in the qte where you punch him a load of times
I used to be able to do this through training for years on Minecraft pvp and now I have wrist pains
Lmao one person playing the game with both controllers is a lot like timberman vs, pretty fun especially competing against friends
I can consistently get around 15-20 clicks per second on a mouse, when jitter clicking.
that's really impressive is your mouse double click? or is it normal?
@@orid7596 normal click, I have some really strong forearm muscles so it allows me to jitter click faster.
@@AphX7 thats insane, then i get 12-13 with jitter and no aim at all
Girls love this guy
Man, I remember watching the channel upupdowndown(pro wrestlers out of character playing video games) and they had a tournament for a title shot, and the game it boiled down to was rapid button game and they had to do best two out of three, they were hurting. I feel like they were super annoyed because they wanted other one to quit and were stuck playing for like 10 minutes
I never assumed I could button mash faster than Delay Lama.
They must have used his time for the torture sequence in Metal Gear Solid with ocelot. Because that shiz was RIDICULOUSSSSSSS😱😵
Minecraft butterfly clickers Really saying “really? Only that?”
On Mashy Mashy (a training homebrew game/rom for NES, used for Ninja Gaiden practice) I can do Up + B presses at around 12-14 times per second on original hardware (NES + NES004 controller), which is interesting because on emulator with a logitech contoller I only get around 8-10. You need to be able to do around 15-16 for plate kills in Ninja Gaiden speedrunning, to which there is several people that can pull this off (I'm not even close). To me this is a bit more impressive than simply putting the input device down on a table and vibrating your arm in a rigid manner.
I was thinking about MGS's torture scene and "and dont even think about using turbo" and I look at this guy and wonder if the game can tell
16 times a sec?
Minecraft PvP'ers: Hold my beer
I had to do something similar to get through the torture section in MGS.
I can, the trick is violently shaking your finger but in a very focused manner, where it's powerful enough to actually press it but not powerful enough to send it away from you.
I developed this technique on my own for winning at mario party
His wife must be happy
dude he is down to 12 per sec just one step away from divorce
I was never good at this, I always struggled with Mortal Kombat when you had to "Test Your Might!".
the og jitter clicker
Wait till he hears about drag clicking.
He uses a "clicking" (mouse clicking) technique called "Jitter clicking". It's where you tense up and start vibrating. The average sweaty minecraft pvp player can do this and hit 10-18 nowadays. Cool to see stuff like this outside of where I originally saw it though :)
I was thinking the same thing. MC players click like 20 clicks in a second now it’s crazy.
@@sleepyumi "now" as if they weren't doing that in 2015
@@Michael-mn4ef I guess idkk
I expected to see an evolution on button clicking techniques and records being broken, still a good video though
Girlfriend must be having cloud nines everyday with that guy
That 2 player 16 shot feature exists. It's in Adventure Island Rebirth for Wii.
Imagine this guy playing Smash.
I started doing that exact thing for gears of war
i think a lot of drummers and proficient guitarists would take issue with this video. It just takes practice.
it really does, but i do have to say that natural inclination does exist. some people have more fast twitch muscle composition.
vibro mains in vsrg’s:
People have consistently done 16 cps on stuff like Minecraft, hell, someone did 29-30 times per second which is like the limit of how fast the game system can handle at 60Hz
u can get 30 if you double click or drag click which isn't really clicking. Jitter click is a better comparison
i used to do this when i was a kid to impress people with my cookie clicker skills
That explains why Mario Party had so many of those fucking button mashing minigames
osu! players would like to have a strong word

yeah should of helped me with the dark Gaia fight

Classic Tetris: 30Hz rolling lesgo
11 to 13 repeated single button presses in a second
more if it isnt the same button and damn thats crazy hudson
Joseph Saylee from tetras be like:
Hold my beer
Tetris* also context he is a hypertapper which means he taps the left and right buttons while playing a game at around 20 hetrz
I think that he doesn’t have that high hertz even for a tapper, rolling players get much higher hertz than tappers as well
Joseph wasn't really the fastest for a hypertapper, as he only really peaked at 15hz. The real fast tapper was Thor Aackerlund, who used to get 20Hz very often. Of course, this is all worthless now that rolling exists lol
Minecraft players: *"allow us to introduce ourselves"*

Im not gonna lie im a master at it i remember people playing MK1 on snes with me and they where stunned with the test your might game i beat em all , also with Track and Field II this helpt me alot my older brother gave me this hack , it also worked nice with Mega Man games.
rhythm heaven fever is like one of the BEST games ever. Its so fun!

yes
This is pretty avg for Minecraft pvp
Man I love the DS' game collection definitely one of the most diverse, filled with all kinds of weird and quirky games, I didn't know a game that tests your mashing skills exists, I keep learning about the system to this day.
You can play the original game on any casio. Hit 1, + two times. Then every press of = increases the number by 1. Try to do a 100 or 1000 as fast as possible. I used to do this so much in class. Taking times on my my wrist watch.
Minecraft players: "hold my vine"
minecraft players: we can do 10 times faster
As a geometry dash player
17/s
Though if I rest my arms for a few minutes I can sometimes get to 18/s before getting tired
I wanna challenge Hudson at Triple Jump on Mario Party.
I knew Hudson soft from PS1, Bloody Roar 2. I had no idea they made Mario party.
You probably don't care, but hey, enjoy the engagement!
Bro needs to talk to any osu mania vibro player
after playing minecraft competitively for several years, i can confidently click a mouse over 16 times a second, which translates well to pressing a button on a gamepad

hahahaha.....
ha

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Most of the games i play where i mash buttons super fast have no care because games are so LIMITED and STRICT around WHEN you can hit A button that timing and “outmashing” has been obsolete in nearly every modern game.
i managed 20 clicks per second over a minute semi consistently. i did develop a repretitive stress injury a month later
I can't believe it was through this video that I found out Hudson Soft is dead
I've always used the same technique and nobody can ever keep up with me on rapid fire.
Dude I'm great at mash a button.
Summoning salt Contra speedrunning history video talks about button mashing. To do records the best do this game for hours, doing 10-16 per second in certain stages.
pfft i can stroke 20 times per second
Seeing as how i can comfortably reach 200 boost in FF8 for GFs like Shiva and ifrit, i bet cha i could at least compete with this guy
Same
i remember bomberman but not mario party
game tryhards: oh?
All this talk of tensing arms up, hear me out: position your left index finger over the chosen mash button, and then use both your right index and middle finger to mash your left index finger.
I used the same technique to win button-mashing games, particularly the GF Boost in FF8. 16 times a second actually seems pretty low I was able to boost about 20-ish in about a second
minecraft pvpers clicking 16 times/second:
Avg minecraft hypixel players who can press 20+cps without breaking a sweat: 👁 👄 👁 “Why am I not being appreciated”
Have you heard of Hector Fly Rodriguez? He could do double that at his prime.
It's fast, but I'm sure a lot of people can do faster. I've measured my presses at 15x per second, and I know my brother is a bit faster than I am. In my speedruns, I need to fire at a constant rate of 6x per second, but I find it more comfortable and reliable to fire at double that rate.
