    Alligator is served in restaurants, rattlesnake is not. I saw it online for $999.99/pound. Sweetwater, Texas has a rattlesnake roundup & they cook the snakes.

    I've had fried Rattlesnake, it's good! There is a restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona that serves it. When I was growing up, my Dad would catch different types of Rattlesnakes and Sidewinders ALIVE, put them in sacks, tie the opening of the sacks closed so they couldn't escape, then bring them home. At home, Dad would pour a clear liquid into gallon sized glass jars, then put one snake in each jar, and put the metal lid on it. Dad would take the jars to the biology classes at the schools so the students could learn about them and be more aware when they went out into the desert to go camping and fishing.
    Kent Rollins is an amazing and Award Winning Cook. Kent specializes in cooking just like the Old West Days!! If you ever watch a Western/Cowboy movie that has a cattle drive with a "Chuck Wagon" and camp cook, then you will see the type and style of cooking that Kent Rollins does, he does all his cooking in cast iron cookware, over campfires, coals, or the propane camp stove he used today. He has some good recipes too!!!

    For Cajun food, check out Justin Wilson. He passed decades ago but tells stories while he cooks and has a Cajun accent. Grew up watching him. Can also order his cookbooks. His gumbo and jambalaya recipes are great.

    Cowboy Kent is from Oklahoma. Oklahoma is one of the states that were part of the Old West which is where cowboys are from.

      Yet I know people who say they live "in the South" and they were born and bred in Oklahoma. The Native Americans were sent from the Southern US to Oklahoma on "The Trail of Tears". The branch/creek that runs near where I was born is called the Weowoka Creek and there is a settlement in Oklahoma called "Weoka" - they are the descendants of the Native Tribe called Creek which used to live in my part of Alabama. We visit each other here in Alabama and then in Oklahoma on alternate years. The Creek and Cherokee were very close together here in Alabama. My GGGrandfather was 100% Cherokee. Other tribes were Choctow, Chickasaw,

    Rollins is a legend, real working camp cook ! Old school, earned a living cooking for cowboys on real cattle round ups for many years ! Years ago, he won a chef master competition for outdoor grilling on Food Network ! His vocabulary reminds me of my Father, cackle berries(eggs) hilarious! Great reaction !

    During the American expansion west, snake is a menu option and on the menu. Nobody can afford to be picky with what they can hunt on the wide open plains. I never tried one yet but I'd like to some day.

    You can find alligator in the grocery store. I’ve seen rattlesnake in a grocery a time or two, but that was in the 90’s.

    Snakes are found all over America, but certain areas seem to have more snakes than average. Rural Texas seems to have many snakes.

    When you have to live off the land, just about everything is edible. I have a friend who fled from Pol Pot's Cambodia overland to Thailand. She was saying that they'd know which plants to eat by looking for plants the caterpillars were eating.
    She also spent several weeks on a crowded boat from Thailand to the Philippines. I worked next to her for about 2 years, had a great time.

    The Cherokee often do "hog fry." I worked at a native American public high school, and several times a year, the local NA community would have a hog fry for the school lunch. Most interesting school lunch I ever had!!!!

    You are gaining a new survival skill Andre. I have had fried rattlesnake . . . It is really only suitable for survival. It isn't terrible but the other side of good anyway. We eat alligator too. I did but only once. About like rattlesnake. Now if you are ever shipwrecked on a desert island full of rattlesnakes & alligators, with a supply of cookware, firewood & frying grease . . . You know.

    I once lived in an RV park in Arizona and my neighbor was the snake catcher in the park. He would stake out the skins in the sun for sale and barbecue the meat.

    I live in Southwest Florida, USA, and both alligator and rattlesnake are eaten here. It is usually served fried or grilled. You are correct that the meat is not usually sold at places like Walmart, but there are local specialty shops and restaurants that offer it for sale. Just yesterday, I enjoyed a serving of fried alligator for lunch at a local restaurant. Prices are reasonable... I paid $23 for a full lunch of fried alligator tail, two side- dishes and a cold beer.

    Our family is fifth gen Florida. My parents weren't hunters but many parents of friends hunted, gathered, and grew most of their food and went to town just for basics like coffee. We ate rattlesnake, gator, raccoon, armadillo, squirrel, rabbit, fish, turtle, dove, hogs, venison, etc. But things changed and as my brother came along 6 years later, he didn't have that experience. There are gator farms in addition to hunting season. We don't have it available in our grocery stores but you can order it and it is offered often in restaurants. Perhaps you would enjoy reacting to an ep of Swamp People. Families who have hunted gators for generations

    There are different types of rattlesnakes across the United States. The Timber Rattlesnake and the Eastern Diamondback are the most prominent species of rattlesnakes here in North Carolina where I live, but we also have many other types of snakes, including Cottonmouth Water Moccasins, Copperhead, Pygmy Rattlesnake, Coral Snakes, and more.

    Oh Gods it taste so good!
    I just told my husband not to come nack home till snake was on the menu.
    Yes, I've cooked various snakes many times and the most important thing is to NOT let the snake get overcook or you'll be chewing for days.
    Pythons and gators are good eating as well. If you're new stick to the 'tail" area to cook.

    My family is from the north but fishing, hunting, foraging, farming, etc were all considered basics needed for general getting along in this world in my family. We grew up eating deer, goose, fish, eel, crab, lobster, clams, frog legs, and much much more. If you could hunt it and cook it, we ate it. I'd say we were too poor to be picky but the truth is that it was all delicious but that may be down to the skill of the cook(s).

    My wife is from Alabama and they have a "rattlesnake roundup" in Opp, Alabama where they catch lots of rattlesnakes and fry the meat up. My wife says it is good, I will take her word for it.

    Rattlesnake ,wild boar, and alligator is commonly available and eaten throughout the South and other regions of the US. You can buy in some local markets across the US or online It is delivered in a cold pak shipment.

    My granny's family ate squirrel, opossum and wild jack rabbits most of the time. They could not afford farm meat. If they raised any they sold it to survive. She knew all kinds of interesting survival info. She would stop her car on the side of the road hop out and start picking 'greens' like dandy lions and sheep sorrel. She could even make her own soda with baking soda spring water and sassafras. She was the most interesting person I knew.

    Yes, rattlesnakes are more common in the south and west- but many of the eastern states have a species or two. There's a local type of rattlesnake in my neck of the woods too.
    They are venemous - meaning it bites you, it's dangerous. Many types are deadly, but they are also common enough that local hospitals will have anti-venom available generally.

    They are easy to catch. We caught them all the time when we were children. A snake can only strike out a distance 1/3 the length of its body. So even for a 6 foot snake that is only 24 inches (2 feet). We made snake kabobs when we went hunting. Something to eat at night around the campfire.

    Alligator is definitely more common to eat than rattlesnake for a few reasons. Alligators are much easier to catch (honestly they can be pretty lazy when they come out onto land to bask in the sun lol, they just lie there in parking lots sometimes) and they have much more meat on them. Rattlesnakes are tiny and you can't really get close to them without dying unless you are a trained snake wrangler. Reptile meat also isn't very popular because as he mentioned it's quite chewy, so most people only try it as a novelty because it is so rare.

    Love cowboy Kent's videos. I have tried alligator meat but have never tried rattlesnake. I tried the white meat of the alligator, and it tasted like chicken. The alligators have both dark meat and white meat like a chicken. It was deep fried with batter like a chicken strip. If I hadn't known what it was, I would have thought it was chicken. God bless!

    I think alligator is more common because we have alligator farms here in Louisiana. You can buy gator meat and get it from a restaurant too.

    Across the US, Texas Chili is famously a red beef chili without beans. But inside of Texas that's just called plain chili. In Texas, if some place advertises "Texas Chili," then they usually mean chili made with a meat combination of longhorn, bison, and rattlesnake, and often armadillo, razorback, alligator, deer, or other game meat added as well.

    Iam from az rattlesnake is really good not to coin a saying but it does taste like chicken. Been eating it for 45 years. Mexican really eat it alot here in az

    Here in Florida, some bars that serve food have fried or blackened gator nuggets, usually served with some kind of dipping sauce, but it is not super common. I've never seen like a main course of some kind of gator filet.

    I've eaten rattlesnake fried and pickled like pig feet. I've also eaten fried cottonmouth.

    Meat from most wild animals have much less fat than farmed animals. And for safety reasons, you have to cook wild meat very thoroughly so it usually ends up even drier. Snakes have almost no fat and Kent mentioned in the video that snake meat does not smell good.

    I have seen alligator on restaurant menus in New York City , but never rattlesnake . Rattlesnakes are pretty much all over the USA , but there are a bunch of different subspecies of them in different parts of the country

    If I cup my hand and put something (like salt or other spices) in the center where it will not spill over but fills up my cupped hand good - that's a teaspoon. If I cup my hand and put enough of whatever in there so it is pretty much ready to spill over - that's a tablespoon. That works for me because I have small hands!
    This guy's accent is SOUTHERN - not necessarily Western. Western dialects have hard "Rs" at the end of their words whereas Southern accents have a softer "R" at the end of a word or they skip the "R" sound altogether. I live near Birmingham AL and the accents here are different from those in Montgomery which is only about 1.5 hours South.
    The only real exception is West Virginia of all places where they have a very hard "R" sound like, for example, Texas. You find various accents everywhere because of folks moving to other areas of the country for work, etc. But, having said that, I've had people from the Pacific Northwest tell me that can't understand my Alabama accent.

    Rattlesnake isn't served in restaurants. You can get alligator in restaurants in the south. It's delicious. There are a lot of animals that can be eaten but won't be sold in restaurants or stores.

    Eating rattlesnake is more common in the south, but I don't think a lot of people eat it.
    Kent cooks for cowboys while they're out herding and stuff so they're out in the middle of nowhere.

    Here how america works we spilt the country in half by the Mississippi river, everything is either west or east of Mississippi. This is a cowboy thing thats west of the Mississippi which isnt soithern east of the Mississippi.

    woohoo!!! nice! Love the stuff. My brother and I first ate it when one tried to bite us in Virginia, killed it and fried it up. Failed at tanning the skin though.
    Gator is MUCH more common to eat in the states.

    This was fun. I've seen him before. But, not cooking rattlesnake. I remember driving through California with my parents in their RV. there was a rattlesnake in the middle of the highway. When a car would go by he'd strike at it.

    Imo, alligator meat tastes most like pork, rattlesnake is similar to chicken (I agree it is chewier than chicken), and wild turtle reminded me of mutton. Bison is drier than beef, and wild venison is lean but to gamey for me personally. Duck is fatty but has a good flavor, and we grew up eating home-grown rabbit which is also similar to eating chicken but no fat. There are specialty meat markets that sell just about anything, and lots of organizations have "Wild Beast Feasts" where diners sample a variety of exotic meats. There are restaurants in Texas that serve rattlesnake. Love Kent Rollins Cooking!

    It would be much easier to find alligator to eat than rattlesnake. Alligator is quite good. I’ve never had rattlesnake but I’m told it’s nothing to write home about.❤️🤗🐝

    Duke’s mayonnaise is the ONLY mayonnaise in my refrigerator! I’ve never eaten snake and I truly don’t want to be in such dire straits that I have to. I know rattlesnakes are in North Carolina and some surrounding states and they are out west, but I don’t know where else they live.

    Rattlesnake is good eating but there are many little bones to deal with. Alligator is also very good. I absolutely lo😢Kent’s videos and I would love to see you react 😂all of them.

    Most game meat needs to be marinated to get rid of that strong taste. But you asked if snake is healthier than beef? It’s generally low in saturated fat compared to other meats. Snake meat is also high in protein and has about half the calories and one-third the fat of a similar amount of sirloin beef steak.

    Never had a chance to eat rattlesnake, but I have eaten alligator. It’s tasty. I recommend it if it’s on a menu, take the opportunity.

    It's a lot like eating blue crab, it's a lot of work for not much meat...but once a year at the Waurika snake hunt , it's worth it.

    Dukes Mayo has a cult following…I was part of it until I tried JFG Mayo. I’ve seen both rattle snake and alligator on menus at restaurants. Ive only seen snake on a menu once. I’ve tried alligator and it was good. Haven’t tried snake. My dad did when he was younger and lived on a farm. They ate everything. He said it’s good. I’m sure you see more rattle snake on menus out west but we have them in the southeast too. I would assume you are more likely to find alligator on a menu than snake.
