Clinical Extern Interview Tips

- Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well! Just want to emphasize that everything mentioned in this video is based on personal opinion, I am very far from an expert but I wanted to share with you guys how I found the interview process by using tips I've learned in my nursing curriculum and asking other healthcare professionals what they are looking for in an interview!

hey so i am a new second year nursing student starting this fall 2021, and I havent had any clinical experience first year due to covid, but i still got called for an interview and was wondering if you have any tips for me!

That's so cool, I didn't even know this position existed! So you think you're going to keep working at that position all through 2nd year of nursing too? Also, good luck on any exams coming up!
It depends on the job!! Some extend it as long as you want others just end the contract at the end of summer, I’m not sure yet what the situation is for me! But if they offer to extend it I might do it depends on how I find uni workload in second year

For UofT nursing, what do the hours look like for your clinicals? Like what time do they normally start and end (e.g. 7am - 7pm, night shift)?
Hey so first clinical was 8 hours 7-3 and after that all clinicals are 12 hours 7-7 mostly. Sometimes they are on saturdays. They have had some evening shifts for the first clinical as well 3-11 pm but I think only one group had that option. You can choose/rank which placement you want but it doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get the one you want. The system randomly allocates everyone and tries to match you with you top but it depends on how many people pick that option!

Since most lectures are online, how many times a week did you have to commute to campus/clinicals?
