Hello all,
Welcome to a Victorian heritage train video. Today we head up to Ballarat for the annual steam shuttles, run by Steamrail for the Ballarat Heritage Festival. The festival ran for 10 days, and Steamrail Victoria operated steam train specials to the township across both weekends. The first weekend, Steamrail ran two days of Eureka Express specials. During the second weekend, they sent up steam locomotives A2986 and K153 to operate some localised shuttles between Ballarat and Lal Lal on the freight line to Geelong. The train was transferred up on the Friday, along with a few support carriages and diesel locomotives T356 and S301 at the rear of the train. On the Saturday and Sunday, there were six and five shuttles operated respectively, then the cavalcade began their trip back to Melbourne on the Sunday evening.
This year we only capture the operations of the Sunday. We begin with the arrival of the first shuttle then follow the pair throughout the day, and finish off at Southern Cross as they travel back to Newport after the night train.

Steamrail Victoria is one of the mainline heritage operators in Victoria, offering day trips and weekend tours back to a bygone era, whether by heritage steam, diesel or electric. This trip was a regional steam shuttle tour.
