How to make the A650e hold power! Building your Lexus IS300 Auto Transmission on a budget! DIY Video

  • This video uses the tutorial found on IS-Elite.com that walks us through the diy of how to build the automatic trans to hold boost. This is basically like putting a shift kit into the transmission. This modification will allow the transmission to hold more power, shift faster, and last longer under the stress of added power all on a budget. This mod is one of the cheapest things you can do to the valve body upgrade.
    Follow Andrew's build at / dthmtlsk8r
    This process will work on all Toyota A650E transmission out of the following cars from 1998 to 2005 and pretty much any rear wheel drive Lexus or Toyota.
    IS300, GS300, GS400, GS430, SC300, SC400, SC430, LS400, LS430, Altezza, Crown.
    The first three accumulators need to be shimmed 14-18 mm and the last one gets shimmed 8-12 mm.

Also do you have to remove bellhousing bolts and torque converter to remove the main housing of transmission? Look like your example transmission doesn't have the bell housing connected to it. Thanks

    Great vids Stan keep up the good work! I have a few questions about the ecu setup for this mod. Is Cody using the factory ecu and a stand-alone together? Or just stand-alone? If he’s using the factory ecu what sensor inputs are still necessary to shift the trans?

    • @RacecarAndChill
      @RacecarAndChill  Před 4 lety +7

      His car has since been parted out. But when it was running, he had the stock ecu running the transmission and a standalone running his engine. The stock ecu pretty much just needs to see the throttle body to keep shifting the transmission. If you want to delete the stock throttle body to use a ffim setup or have your standalone run the throttle, what you can do is leave the stock throttle body wired into the trunk so the stock ECU still thinks it's running the engine.

      RacecarAndChill it was a tad bit smaller than the accumulator spring both in length and width. Small enough to fit inside of the last one you shimmed which was where i put it inside of based off of a diagram of the tranny I looked up online. So essentially I put a spring inside a spring on top of shimming that last accumulator. I’m so lost man lol I got a day off tommorow the 1st thing I’m doing is popping my oil pan off to check if I fucked up the shifter and if not my next guess would be that spring. You can keep the factory ecu to control the transmission if you have a standalone running your engine. My is300 is manual swapped, but if you wanted to build an auto car, you can use the stock ecu it comes with to shift the transmission and let the engine be run by a standalone. The stock ecu wil need to see the throttle body signals to shift the transmission.

    • @RacecarAndChill
      @RacecarAndChill  Před 4 lety +1

      Yea probably. But if it's already slipping and you take the pan off, replacing that much fluid might make it slip worse. That's a tricky one. If a trans is already slipping, replacing the fluid in it might cause it to slip more because all of the friction material from the clutch packs is suspended in the fluid. When you replace it, that friction material isnt there anymore and the clutches cant grab. It's a catch 22.
