ശീതയുദ്ധത്തിലെ അതികായൻ | History of Tupolev Tu-95 'Bear'

1950-കളിൽ സോവിയറ്റ് യൂണിയൻ വികസിപ്പിച്ച ദീർഘ-ദൂര സ്ട്രാറ്റിജിക്‌ ബോംബർ വിമാനമാണ് ടുപോലെവ് Tu-95. അമേരിക്കയുമായി ഒരു യുദ്ധം പൊട്ടിപുറപ്പെട്ടാൽ അവിടെ പോയി അണുബോംബിടാൻ വേണ്ടിയാണ് USSR ഇതിനെ നിർമ്മിച്ചത്. ലോകത്തിലേറ്റവും ശക്തിയേറിയ അണുബോംബായ സാർ ബോംബ പരീക്ഷിച്ചതും ഈ വിമാനമുപയോഗിച്ചാണ്.

Tupolev Tu-95 ‘Bear’ is a strategic bomber and missile carrier that was developed in the Soviet Union in the 1950s. Along with the B-52 Stratofortress of the US, the ‘Bear’ is the longest-serving long-range bomber in service anywhere in the world.
It was developed in preparation for a potential nuclear exchange between the US and the USSR. A modified version of the bomber was used to test the most powerful nuclear bomb to date - the Tsar Bomba.
In the 1960s, the aircraft was modified to fit a nuclear reactor onboard to test the possibility of powering a bomber with atomic energy. The project was abandoned after intercontinental ballistic missiles became the primary vehicles of nuclear payload delivery.
Tu-95 continues to serve the Russian airborne service as a cruise missile platform and as a long-range anti-submarine warfare aircraft and will continue to do so till at least 2040.
