I love what you said at the end, Aaron. I have thought that so many times hearing this. My husband said to me one day, that he feels a lot of these preachers are being used by the devil to confuse people so they will never be saved. It's so sad, and I've had discussions with many reformed Baptist and they refuse to believe anything different. I've been told so many times that what I believe is false and I'm in a cult, and they can't see the truth. It is so frustrating. This is one of the main things that upsets me when talking to others about the Bible. I love that you guys let this go over the time. Because you're right, it is important. In today's age, I feel like it may be right at the top of importance. Good job, guys. God bless y'all, for speaking out on what the big preachers are teaching today. - Raylynn

In the psalm 51 verse with David talking about being “brought forth in iniquity” I think one of the issues a Calvinist misses is the attitude and drama of David’s repentance. He was using hyperbolic language in expressing his sorrow and regret for the things he deliberately did against God.

Years ago, I had a Calvinist friend. One time at a Bible study at his house, he said that he grew up thinking he was special because he was chosen by God and he was homeschooled. He dealt with pride he told us. His mother used to tell him all the time God choose him from others. She even said at the study that there was a billboard she read which stated, “Jesus died for all.” She was upset at the sign saying it was a lie because He only died for the elected. We were attending their church not knowing what Calvinism was.

  • @1rgam3r
    @1rgam3r Pƙed 2 lety +13

As I understand it, “total depravity” works like this:
As it was stated, we are born into sin and as such, we are separated from God. (There’s scripture to support exception for the very young and infant) And as we are separated from God, our very nature will keep us from Him unless He intervenes. We are unable to seek God of our own volition. This we’re given a choice to follow or not. By that we are judged.
I’m not a Calvinist. I think some of the tenants are good. They’re all fun to think about. It makes you examine scripture and your faith and walk. Ultimately, however, we are not called to worry about these things. Example: predestination to our relationship with the Lord is only a thing He can be sure of as only one is worthy to open the book of life and that is Christ. It only matters that we love the Lord God now. He called us to Love the Lord our God, or neighbor and to go out and preach the gospel.
To the matter of Calvin, he and the other reformers were addressing heresy within the Roman Catholic Church of the time. So some of these things were need of examination but we weren’t to camp on them. God is God and He doesn’t change. Seek him with all your heart and He will lead you into truth.

I've studied this doctrine and many others all that's right all of my life! The bible verses you describe I have studied inside out. Put these under a microscope and their original context and Calvinism doesn't hold any water. We're clearly given a choice to follow and respond to God drawing us and the holy Spirits calling. He God doesn't force us.

Romans 8:28-30 28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Great verse thanks for sharing - The key verse hear is 29 For those GOD foreknew HE also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son. Foreknew - This speaks of Gods "predetermined choice to set His love on us and established an intimate relationship-or His election" Look at Acts 3.23.
Predestined - predestined. Lit. “to mark out, appoint, or determine beforehand.” Those God chooses, He destines for His chosen end-that is, likeness to His Son. Conformed to the image of His Son. The goal of God’s predestined purpose for His own is that they would be made like Jesus Christ

Sin separates from God Is 59:2.
Therefore one must conclude, if Jesus is calling children to him, for such is the kingdom, then they have no sins.
God does not & will not allow sin in his presence, which is why humans are given the power to become sons of God, because all whom have been baptized/ immersed/buried with Christ have put on Christ.
Thats where precious blood of sinless Christ is applied to us, & we're clothed in Christs righteousness.
And thats the new birth, & when your newly born, Lord adds His called out to the kingdom.

Your arguments presupposes God rejects those who genuinely love him. It also presupposes a universal definition of Freewill. We have to define it before we can argue for or against it. A bird that has a broken wing can choose to fly and "Will" to fly. I believe its a question of inability. I believe this because Grace in short is a divine ability granted that is not of yourself. Also, couldn't someone argue that choosing GOD is a WORK? I can boast that I chose God and you didn't. John 1:12- on... Then, with your view, we have to ask the question: where does the faith come from to make a choice to believe? I currently would be more reformed leaning; I've been atheist, new age, prosperity, WOF. Praise the Lord for deliverance. It's still an ongoing learning process; there are flaws on both sides (Arminianism and Calvinism). "The devil loves this doctrine" was an overly exaggerated statement and full of pride. To assume your way is right and the other is wrong, unless you are an expert in the Bible, is a bit much. Worthy of repenting from, to say the least. Love you guys, thanks for sharing. Great show and dialog; I appreciate your scripture analysis. I was drawn đŸ€Ł by the Calvinism backdrop/thumbnail.

Hello. To answer your question about "where does faith come from"? Romans10:17 Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. The bible is Holy and divinely inspired (2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness). Because they didn't have the written word in the first century church, God poured His Spirit onto the apostles for them to write the scriptures for us. Faith is developed by hearing (read & studying) the Holy scriptures. Once we "hear" the Word, we can make a decision to follow God or not. Read the account of the rich young ruler (Matthew 19: 16-22). Jesus told him what he needed to do, but the rich young ruler didn't want to give up what he had to follow Jesus. Jesus didn't force him to follow him because God gives us free will. Think about it. We can't force someone to love us. If we tried, it wouldn't be genuine. We are created in His image and God lets us decide. John 14:15 If you love Me, keep my commandments. He gives us knowledge to be able to discern. Wonderful question and I pray that you investigate more into His church the church of Christ. These guys will be more than willing to answer them.

Help me understand what is your definition when you say totally depraved? I believe that most of us know prior to the sin in the Garden of Eden (Gen.3) there was no sin. The original sin committed by both Adam and Eve was brought on by the lie that Satan perpetrated but they both chose to believe the lie. No one made them partake of the forbidden fruit in the Garden. Even though both Adam and Eve walked and talked with God he gave them the ability to chose the path they would take. (Some might say when Adam and Eve made their decision to disobey God that they became depraved) Adam and Eve had one of the most unique personal relationships with our Lord of anyone ever created and yet according to Gods Word I feel that total depravity might mean the total off spring of Adam and Eve were/are depraved just as Adam and Eve had become. According to the Word we (the decendants of Adam/Eve) owed a debt we could not pay and our Lord Jesus paid the debt He did not owe. - Jesus said "No man comes to the Father except by me" John.14.6. Again Gods Word Says "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" Rom.3.10. - I believe we all at some time or another get caught up in what the Words of our Lord mean. May God grant us His Spirit and Wisdom to undertand His mystries.

There are many paradox's in the Word and every one of them are true. Example I have seen many post of John 3.16 - It is Divine Truth - now let me ask a question please give some thought to this before giving in to a religious spirit (Which I know I have done in the past). Can any one of us save ourselves or do we need the Holy Spirits intervention? When Saul was on the Damascus Road was He seeking Christ as a Pharisee who hated everything that Christ stood for? So how did he become one of the greatest authors of the New Testament? Jesus chose Saul to become Paul. If Jesus had not chose Saul would he have become Paul?

@@mercibeaucoup2639 As I previously said I believe "all" scripture is true and God breath. The scripture you've quoted is truth, but there is additional truth in the Word, we must never stop but continue to look to fully understand the whole truth in Gods Word. Never adding to or taking away from that truth. That being said let me ask you 2 questions? Do you believe 100% of the Bible is true and God beathed? Can anyone on earth save themselves from eternity in Hell? Hopefully we can all agree the answer to this is absolute "Yes" 100% of scripture is True, and "No" we can not save ourselves . If we can agree on this, then we really have no disagreement. We may not fully understand or agree on the scripture, (me included) but we are seeking the divine truth. Did the apostle Paul, formerly Saul, believe Christ was the son of God? Was he pursuing Christians because he loved them on the Damascus Road? No, he hated all Christians. The Spirit of Jesus came to Saul in a blinding light and Saul/Paul was redeemed at that specific time for the purpose God had from for him since before the foundation of the World. No one can save themself only the Spirit of God can do that. John 15:16 - Jesus says to his disciples "You did not choose me, but I chose you" , John 17:9 Jesus High Priestly Prayer for those people that you (God) gave Jesus out of the World. He said "I am praying for them, I am not praying for the world but for those who you (God the Father) has given me. For they are yours. Again, Jesus emphasized that those who believed in Him were given by the Father. Eph.1:4 even as he chose (a decision was made) us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. My point is all the Bible is true! John 3:16 "that whosoever believes shall be saved" absolute truth. John 3:5 - Jesus answering Nicodemus, verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the "Spirit", he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Revelation 17: 8 And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world. Jesus explains this best in the Matthew 22 where he talks about a King who gave a wedding feast for his son. This illustrates the free offer of the Gospel, which is extended to all indiscriminately many (not all) are called, but few are chosen. May Gods Holy Spirit bless you as you seek His divine truth.

@@bjterrell9101 Greetings my friend. I will elucidate my point so clear in a very facilitating way thus avoiding floccinaucinihilipilification. My message won't be vague tut-tutting bewildering to understand. I hope not. This is your 2 questions. Do I believe 100% of the Bible is true and God breathed? I agree. Can anyone on earth save themselves from eternity in Hell? Yes they can, but we know not many will accept God’s free gift of salvation Matthew 7:13-14.. The bible tells us, “[Jesus] is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2) is Jesus atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole (Holou) world (Kosmou)? The Greek word actually means cosmos or universe. If God predestined certain people to love him that wouldn’t be considered love, but control. The topic of Saul is for another discussion. You mention John 15:16. “16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” This is how most Christians view and interpret John 15:16 “Ye (mankind in general) have not chosen me, but I have chosen you (mankind in general, by dying for all of you), and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. Romans 8, 9 and Ephesians is for another discussion as well. Matthew 22:14 “14 For many are called, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22:14 goes on to say, "but few are chosen." The Greek word for "chosen" is eklektos. How are people “chosen”? 1 Peter 1:1-2 uses the same Greek word and explains that believers are chosen (eklektos) “according to the foreknowledge of God”. Foreknowledge is simply the Greek word proginosko and it means “to know beforehand”. It has been said that God chooses to save those who choose to believe. Why are so few chosen? They are unwilling to come (Matt. 22:3). This parable in Matthew 22 actually is emphasizing man’s choice more than God’s choice in the matter of salvation, although both are true - God chooses to save those who choose to believe. The reformed doctrine of original sin, which usually includes imputed guilt, essentially means that there is no such thing as an innocent child in the eyes of God. All infants are guilty and corrupt before God, at conception, because of original sin. This is what Charles Spurgeon and B.B. Warfield think. Mr. Spurgeon also says that my Loving God decrees murder, rape and suffering to mankind. Do you agree? God bless you.

We are ALL sinners that fall short of the glory of God. And we ALL are deserving of eternal punishment in hell because sin is so serious (sin is evil and it is the cause of all pain, death, and suffering). And that’s why Jesus suffered soooo much for us, and that’s why He died on the cross for ALL our sins (past, present, AND future sins) and rose from the dead 3 days later! Jesus did all this because He loves us sooooo much, you can’t even fully comprehend it! And you may have eternal life with Him if you repent (to change your mind about Jesus, to believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord our God) and have faith in Him, then you will be saved! (Let’s make it clear that being a good person WILL NOT get you into Heaven! You can only be saved by the grace God will show you, if you repent and have faith in Jesus and in what Jesus did for us on the cross and that He rose from the dead 3 days after He died for us! ONLY THEN, will you will be saved)! And do not wait because you do not know when you will die (sit and think deeply about that. You have NO CLUE when you will die! Today could be your last day, tonight could be your last night. You can die in your sleep or even in the next hour!) I want you to realize how urgent and important it is to have Jesus! But if you have Jesus, you will NEVER have to worry! You won’t have to worry about school, family problems, life, or EVEN DEATH because you will have the LORD your GOD, RIGHT BY YOUR SIDE, EVERY SINGLE DAY, EVERY SINGLE HOUR, EVER SINGLE MINUTE and EVERY SINGLE SECOND of your life! GOD can help you through ANY challenge, through ANY hardship, and through ANY depressing time in your life! GOD WILL NEVER leave you, GOD WILL NEVER forget about you, GOD WILL NEVER betray you, GOD WILL NEVER forsake you, and GOD WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!!! And that is why GOD is calling you RIGHT NOW to be saved!!!

@@diggy1108 ~~~~“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” -Romans 3:23~~~~
This verse, which you have quoted out of context to answer my question, does not teach that all humans are sinners. Here is the context:
"22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
      23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"
Read 23-24 together. If you believe that the "all" here refers to all humans without qualification, then not only do you include Jesus Christ as a sinner (since He was fully human), but you are teaching universalism since that same "all" are being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
However, if you scooch back to verse 22, you will see that the all is limited to the category of "them that believe". Paul is saying that all the saved had sinned and fallen short of the glory of God but were justified by God's grace through Christ. That's what it means to be "saved" by definition. You sinned and fell short and then Christ rescued you from that sin.
Romans 3:23 cannot teach that all humans have sinned. So my question still stands: Where does the Bible teach that all humans, without qualification, have sinned or are sinners?

Came to your podcast quite by accident. - Great topic for discussion - Hopefully we can all agree that there are many paradox's in the Bible. I love the entire Word of God and believe that it's 100% true. The Son of God says in Mathhew 4:4 “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” If we can use this and the Word Jesus "Every" as a foundational starting point this should be fun. Jesus also said in Luke 18:7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Another scripture where Jesus talking to his disciples - John 15:16 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you - "In case any pretense might exist among the disciples in terms of spiritual pride because of the privileges they enjoyed, Jesus made it clear that such privilege rested not in their own merit, but on His sovereign choice of them. God chose Israel (Is 45:4; Am 3:2), but not for any merit (Dt 7:7; 9:4-6). God elected angels to be forever holy (1Ti 5:21). He elected believers to salvation apart from any merit (Mt 24:24, 31

I disagree with the argument about Jesus birth. Mary gave birth not by natural human means, but through the work of the Holy Ghost (which is written in Matthew and Luke and Isaiah). The work of the Holy Ghost without human intervention separates Jesus from the human sin and nature. If Jesus had born from a natural relationship between Joseph and Mary then we would be able to include him in the same bucket of whole humanity, but he was the only one born from the Spirit. Jesus was generated by the Spirit in MaryÂŽs womb, which shows the he would not inherit humanity sins. And this is not related to be a Calvinist or not, it is related to have a serious bible study instead of finger pointing a doctrine that you disagree with and influencing other people to go for it. There is a lot on this podcast that is not biblical.... this is not about being a Calvinist or not, this is about you guys being humanists distorting the bible.

The problem is that “free will” theology is just as flawed, though for a different reason: The vast majority of people follow the faith of their families and/or of their cultures. If you're raised Hindu, the odds are you'll remain Hindu. If you're raised Christian, odds are (if you retain your belief in God) you'll remain Christian, and more often than not, stay within the same denomination.

If you believe you have proven that God preselects individuals for salvation (you haven't), then for clarification, you just may want to read such passages as Acts 10:34-35, Acts 17:30-31, Romans 2:5-11, Romans 6:16-18, Hebrews 5:8-9 or Hebrews 11:6. They clearly demonstrate that while God indeed gives us His free gift of salvation (Romans 6:23), He most assuredly expects each individual to accept the gift ("diligently seek Him," Heb. 11:6).

The science of evolution clears this all up for us. Paul says time and time again that our sin comes from our flesh and that our flesh wars against the spirit. Ecclesiastes says that our flesh is an animal body inhabited by a spirit that comes from God. Science says that because we evolved, our brains are wired with powerful animal instincts. These instincts are for survival purposes, things like eating, mating, and fighting. Animals act blindly on those instincts and everything is in perfect harmony just as God designed it. But humans opened up our eyes. Whatever the actual catalyst was, this marks the point in evolutionary history at which we started wearing clothes and farming etc. This corresponds with a large brain, thus why Eve is given great pains in childbirth. God says "Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil." God is not totally depraved, so if opening our eyes made us like God then we are not totally depraved. God uses evil for His perfect will. "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." This is a mighty power that humans got. But it is more power than we can handle. We are still stuck in these animal bodies with animal instincts, but we can act out on those instincts in terrible ways through the power of knowing good and evil. This is why we are born into slavery to sin - because our bodies are hardwired for these instincts and yet we all have our "eyes open" to temptation. We no longer have the luxury of acting blindly as animals do. The base of our brain, the reptile brain, that old serpent called the devil, is the most powerfully wired because it is the oldest in evolutionary terms and is purely about base survival. It also has the built in capacity to override the higher brain functions. This allows us to dodge a car before we even process it consciously, but it also allows desires to overwhelm us. Thus we are unable to free ourselves from this bondage because we are up against our own brain. Jesus was born into the same body with the same instincts but defeated the serpent. He went against self preservation by fasting in the desert and ultimately by saying "not my will but yours be done" and going to the cross. When we decide to stop living for ourselves and put our faith in Christ, we get that same spirit within us so that we can be victorious in the struggle between the spirit and the flesh.

Evolution is erroneous both from the Biblical standpoint and the scientific one.
Biblically speaking, both Exodus 20 and Matthew 19:4 show explicitly that the Genesis account is literal and only happened about 6025 years ago.
From the scientific standpoint, Physics demonstrates in a multitude of ways that the Universe is very young, too young for Evolution to have taken place, and that Evolution is a violation of several known laws of Physics, Chemistry, and even Biology (e.g. Law of Biogenesis).
For example, Blue Stars have relatively short life spans, no more than 10 million years max, and many are around 2 million because they burn so hot and fast, consuming their fuel. Since new stars do not form (there is zero evidence of this and the gas laws and electromagnetic laws that have been observed are contrary to nebulae contracting - they are observed to be expanding), and since there are still blue stars in the universe, the universe cannot be more than a few million years old, maximum. This is not long enough for Evolution to happen.
I could go on, but this is sufficient to show the hypothesis of Evolution false.
