I love what you said at the end, Aaron. I have thought that so many times hearing this. My husband said to me one day, that he feels a lot of these preachers are being used by the devil to confuse people so they will never be saved. It's so sad, and I've had discussions with many reformed Baptist and they refuse to believe anything different. I've been told so many times that what I believe is false and I'm in a cult, and they can't see the truth. It is so frustrating. This is one of the main things that upsets me when talking to others about the Bible. I love that you guys let this go over the time. Because you're right, it is important. In the psalm 51 verse with David talking about being âbrought forth in iniquityâ I think one of the issues a Calvinist misses is the attitude and drama of Davidâs repentance. He was using hyperbolic language in expressing his sorrow and regret for the things he deliberately did against God.

The âall menâ is a common phrase used to describe people from all walks of life, from all social classes or reputation. It does NOT refer to all human beings. Read Romans 9.
Years ago, I had a Calvinist friend. One time at a Bible study at his house, he said that he grew up thinking he was special because he was chosen by God and he was homeschooled. He dealt with pride he told us. His mother used to tell him all the time God choose him from others. She even said at the study that there was a billboard she read which stated, âJesus died for all.â She was upset at the sign saying it was a lie because He only died for the elected. We were attending their church not knowing what Calvinism was.
As I understand it, âtotal depravityâ works like this:
As it was stated, we are born into sin and as such, we are separated from God. (Thereâs scripture to support exception for the very young and infant) And as we are separated from God, our very nature will keep us from Him unless He intervenes. We are unable to seek God of our own volition. This weâre given a choice to follow or not. By that we are judged.
Iâm not a Calvinist. I think some of the tenants are good. Theyâre all fun to think about. It makes you examine scripture and your faith and walk. Ultimately, however, we are not called to worry about these things. Example: predestination to our relationship with the Lord is only a thing He can be sure of as only one is worthy to open the book of life and that is Christ. It only matters that we love the Lord God now. He called us to Love the Lord our God, or neighbor and to go out and preach the gospel.
To the matter of Calvin, he and the other reformers were addressing heresy within the Roman Catholic Church of the time. So some of these things were need of examination but we werenât to camp on them. God is God and He doesnât change. Seek him with all your heart and He will lead you into truth.

I've studied this doctrine and many others all that's right all of my life! The bible verses you describe I have studied inside out. Put these under a microscope and their original context and Calvinism doesn't hold any water. We're clearly given a choice to follow and respond to God drawing us and the holy Spirits calling. He God doesn't force us.
Romans 8:28-30 28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
Great verse thanks for sharing - The key verse hear is 29 For those GOD foreknew HE also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son. Foreknew - This speaks of Gods "predetermined choice to set His love on us and established an intimate relationship-or His election" Look at Acts 3.23.
Predestined - predestined. Lit. âto mark out, appoint, or determine beforehand.â Those God chooses, He destines for His chosen end-that is, likeness to His Son. Conformed to the image of His Son. The goal of Godâs predestined purpose for His own is that they would be made like Jesus Christ

We are born into sin no doubt. But I believe God puts his loving hands on babies who don't know better.
But your belief is not based on anything biblical. Do you also believe that someone who never had a chance to hear the gospel message has a chance at salvation?

Thank you for this. I was raised to believe that babies were born sinful and that's why we baptize them when they are only a few days old. When I grew up and had children, my family was very angry that I wasn't having my child baptized for a few months and actually said to me, "What happens if that baby dies before she is baptized! You are sending her straight to hell!" I have been on a journey to learn the truth for a couple of years now and I am so grateful for your show, as well as GBN, WVBS, etc. Please do a part 2 of this. I have years of brainwashing to unlearn.

I rest in the fact that our Calvinist and Armenians brothers, as long as they are born again and do the will of the Lord living a righteous and holy committing to do the will of God sharing his word and love they will be in heaven. You obviously donât know what the will of the father is.
True having faith and doing the will of God is the most important thing, but both Calvnists and Armenians are in the wrong, because they are divisive factions based on individual human teachers rather than seeking unity in Christ. This is spoken against in 1 Corinthians 1 and 3 as the foolish behavior of immature Christians.

It's not ALL without exception It is ALL without distinction. It is his Sovereign right as the one who could swear by no greater that he purposed HIS Grace which is his to purpose. So why can't he know and choose and purpose his own will.

Great work guys. Please keep up the good work. As a former southern baptist who was taught Calvinism without knowing it, I see reformed teaching the biggest weed in modern churches. Ive studies with several Calvinist and they are all good men who love Christ, but I fear they love the philosophies of men more.

Thank you for speaking truth my oldest brother got into calvinism a few years ago and he said that our mother was in Hell I told him not to ever say things like that I know my Mother is in Heaven she was saved as a young woman and she lived the life of a Christian she loved her lord and savior Jesus Christ

1) we are commanded by Jesus to do so (Matthew 28)
2) evangelism is the only way that the elect will come to faith in Christ (Romans 10:14)

Calvinism, Lutheranism, Catholicism, etc. They are all based on Man's ideas and Opinions. Why not follow Jesus Christ as He told us to, it's pretty simple. The Word of God is not complicated, man complicates it.
I grew up as a Presbyterian (PCUSA brand). Weâre liberal. I was taught Calvinism-Predestination, etc , but I didnât find much Truth in it for myself. My church IMHO had much better teachings. It seemed great for college level discussions. But, I just couldnât believe all of it.

He was speaking about the innocent of a child trusting those caring for the child. I believe he stated the same thing in more depth when he said unless we become child like in faith we miss the boat. Over 200 figures of speech are used in the bible, and taking into consideration this is poetry and the situation at hand, hyperbole would explain it best. Stressing the fact & sorrow of his sin (Uriah/bathsheba) before God is his intention, not teaching doctrine.
For example when herod was called a fox by Jesus, was he literally a fox? No, a metaphor was used and is still popular today in fiction, non-fiction & poetry alike..

I would make the distinction between original sin and original guilt. Are we guilty of Adam's sin? Sin is in us and and in the world. HOWEVER ARE WE GUILTY? Is that what the scripture say?

Derek rode the bus in his wheel chair to special needs classes to be with his teachers and special needs classmates. Derek died a week shy of his 18th Birthday. Derek, our nephew, is in paradise rest in peace temporary place! The last days as presented by scripture have long since passed. Peter said they were in the last days as spoken of by Joel in Acts 2. The Hebrew writer said, referring to the time the New Testament was being revealed, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son..."
The Book of Revelation was about things that "must shortly come to pass" (Rev. 1v1; 22v6) from John's writing because "the time is at hand" (1v3; 22v10). Jesus was coming quickly (2v5, 16; 3v11; 22v7, 12, 20).
Isaiah 7:15-16, perfectly fits Jesus in Luke 18:15-17. Infants and young children are born innocent.

Iâm Calvinist and although I disagree with some of your interpretations of the scripture I appreciate your video.
Your arguments presupposes God rejects those who genuinely love him. It also presupposes a universal definition of Freewill. We have to define it before we can argue for or against it. A bird that has a broken wing can choose to fly and "Will" to fly. I believe its a question of inability. I believe this because Grace in short is a divine ability granted that is not of yourself. Also, couldn't someone argue that choosing GOD is a WORK? I can boast that I chose God and you didn't. John 1:12- on... Then, with your view, we have to ask the question: where does the faith come from to make a choice to believe? I currently would be more reformed leaning; I've been atheist, new age, prosperity, WOF. Praise the Lord for deliverance. It's still an ongoing learning process; there are flaws on both sides (Arminianism and Calvinism). "The devil loves this doctrine" was an overly exaggerated statement and full of pride. To assume your way is right and the other is wrong, unless you are an expert in the Bible, is a bit much. Hello. To answer your question about "where does faith come from"? Romans10:17 Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. The bible is Holy and divinely inspired (2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness). Because they didn't have the written word in the first century church, God poured His Spirit onto the apostles for them to write the scriptures for us. Faith is developed by hearing (read & studying) the Holy scriptures. Once we "hear" the Word, we can make a decision to follow God or not. Read the account of the rich young ruler (Matthew 19: 16-22). Jesus told him what he needed to do, but the rich young ruler didn't want to give up what he had to follow Jesus. Jesus didn't force him to follow him because God gives us free will. Think about it. We can't force someone to love us. If we tried, it wouldn't be genuine. We are created in His image and God lets us decide. John 14:15 If you love Me, keep my commandments. He gives us knowledge to be able to discern. Wonderful question and I pray that you investigate more into His church the church of Christ. These guys will be more than willing to answer them.

The former pastor of one of the largest local Baptist churches where I live is a 3 point Calvinist. Iâve heard that thereâs 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 point Calvinists. By this standard, at what point is one not Calvinist anymore?
There's alot of confused Calvinists out there. I was one and didn't know it!! Hubby and I ran from it about 3 yrs ago. We sought truth and God backed up the truck and dumped a ton on us. Just about needed therapy out of it. The TULIP is cursed and thwarts true evangelism!!

So I don't agree with the entirety of this video, but đŻ% have thought the same about when Calvinism came on the scene: seriously, ~1500 years into church history and only then does correct doctrine come? I've found that to be unrealistic.
My brother and I have also wondered this: what is the point of Calvinism, anyway? What does anyone gain by believing Calvinistic teachings? To me, ideas like unconditional election and limited atonement are based on lots of presumptions and ultimately just breeds confusion.

Agree. If one simply reads God's Word with man made theology... you'll never come up with calvinism. They are masters at taking things out of context! They think the whole bible applies to them. Simple dispensational dividing of the Word helps alot! I know. I was a Calvinist for years and didn't know it! I praise God daily for clearing my mind from the effects of the cursed TULIP!

A righteous person is someone who serves God. A baby cannot serve God so they are not considered righteous. They are also not considered wicked either though.

I've always understood righteousness to be in "right standing with God", which to me an infant or unborn child, certainly would be. Or you disagree? Example: I can only be righteous (in a right standing with God through Christ, because I have sinned) however a child who has not committed sin, would still be in a (right standing with God). God created Adam and Eve with the free will to choose and they chose... do we now suggest that he started creating people differently thereafter?

Help me understand what is your definition when you say totally depraved? I believe that most of us know prior to the sin in the Garden of Eden (Gen.3) there was no sin. The original sin committed by both Adam and Eve was brought on by the lie that Satan perpetrated but they both chose to believe the lie. No one made them partake of the forbidden fruit in the Garden. Even though both Adam and Eve walked and talked with God he gave them the ability to chose the path they would take. You are right, humans have a propensity for being depraved because we are all born with our "eyes open" because Adam and Eve ate the fruit and there's no going back. But where Calvinism goes wrong is by inserting the "totally." Calvin was a lawyer. When you are a lawyer it's your job to make polemical absolute declarations, but such an approach to Scripture is ill-informed since, as you said, it is a mystery.

I agree with your premise, and what I read of Calvin is different than what is mostly practiced today... with that said; it's heresy either way. I would never point someone to a writing of an uninspired human rather than just simply God's Word. I would recommend reading holiness of God by RC and Chosen by God by RC. Those were good foundations of Calvinism. Yes we believe we have a sin nature and you can choose God. We believe Christ died for his elected sinners. We all deserve hell before God calls us to him. God is perfect and right and just in everything he does, even if it means he doesnât choose certain people.

If god is just and right in whatever he does, simply because he is god, then there is no absolute morality. This makes genocide and slavery as condoned or commanded by god moral. But, no one believes these things are moral.

This verse, which you have quoted out of context to answer my question, does not teach that all humans are sinners. Here is the context:
"22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"
Read 23-24 together. If you believe that the "all" here refers to all humans without qualification, then not only do you include Jesus Christ as a sinner (since He was fully human), but you are teaching universalism since that same "all" are being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
However, if you scooch back to verse 22, you will see that the all is limited to the category of "them that believe". Paul is saying that all the saved had sinned and fallen short of the glory of God but were justified by God's grace through Christ. That's what it means to be "saved" by definition. You sinned and fell short and then Christ rescued you from that sin.
Romans 3:23 cannot teach that all humans have sinned. So my question still stands: Where does the Bible teach that all humans, without qualification, have sinned or are sinners?

The Church of Christ teaches a works salvation gospel. They have no idea how sinful they really are. This is why they cannot really be grateful for what Christ has done, and why they add to the gospel. I went to this church for years.
I'm not a Calvinist, however, I do mostly understand the depth and pervasive nature of my sinful deprivation. They never deal with this. They actually believe they are partially good and that their good works will save them.

I disagree with the argument about Jesus birth. Mary gave birth not by natural human means, but through the work of the Holy Ghost (which is written in Matthew and Luke and Isaiah). The work of the Holy Ghost without human intervention separates Jesus from the human sin and nature. If Jesus had born from a natural relationship between Joseph and Mary then we would be able to include him in the same bucket of whole humanity, but he was the only one born from the Spirit. Jesus was generated by the Spirit in MaryÂŽs womb, which shows the he would not inherit humanity sins. And this is not related to be a Calvinist or not, it is related to have a serious bible study instead of finger pointing a doctrine that you disagree with and influencing other people to go for it. Reformed theology is deeply flawed, as you clearly point out. The problem is that âfree willâ theology is just as flawed, though for a different reason: The vast majority of people follow the faith of their families and/or of their cultures. If you're raised Hindu, the odds are you'll remain Hindu. If you're raised Christian, odds are (if you retain your belief in God) you'll remain Christian, and more often than not, stay within the same denomination.

If you believe you have proven that God preselects individuals for salvation (you haven't), then for clarification, you just may want to read such passages as Acts 10:34-35, Acts 17:30-31, Romans 2:5-11, Romans 6:16-18, Hebrews 5:8-9 or Hebrews 11:6. They clearly demonstrate that while God indeed gives us His free gift of salvation (Romans 6:23), He most assuredly expects each individual to accept the gift ("diligently seek Him," Heb. 11:6).
The science of evolution clears this all up for us. Paul says time and time again that our sin comes from our flesh and that our flesh wars against the spirit. Ecclesiastes says that our flesh is an animal body inhabited by a spirit that comes from God. Science says that because we evolved, our brains are wired with powerful animal instincts. These instincts are for survival purposes, things like eating, mating, and fighting. Animals act blindly on those instincts and everything is in perfect harmony just as God designed it. But humans opened up our eyes. Whatever the actual catalyst was, this marks the point in evolutionary history at which we started wearing clothes and farming etc. This corresponds with a large brain, thus why Eve is given great pains in childbirth. God says "Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil." God is not totally depraved, so if opening our eyes made us like God then we are not totally depraved. God uses evil for His perfect will. "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." This is a mighty power that humans got. But it is more power than we can handle. We are still stuck in these animal bodies with animal instincts, but we can act out on those instincts in terrible ways through the power of knowing good and evil. This is why we are born into slavery to sin - because our bodies are hardwired for these instincts and yet we all have our "eyes open" to temptation. We no longer have the luxury of acting blindly as animals do. The base of our brain, the reptile brain, that old serpent called the devil, is the most powerfully wired because it is the oldest in evolutionary terms and is purely about base survival. It also has the built in capacity to override the higher brain functions. This allows us to dodge a car before we even process it consciously, but it also allows desires to overwhelm us. Thus we are unable to free ourselves from this bondage because we are up against our own brain. Jesus was born into the same body with the same instincts but defeated the serpent. He went against self preservation by fasting in the desert and ultimately by saying "not my will but yours be done" and going to the cross. When we decide to stop living for ourselves and put our faith in Christ, we get that same spirit within us so that we can be victorious in the struggle between the spirit and the flesh.
Evolution is erroneous both from the Biblical standpoint and the scientific one.
Biblically speaking, both Exodus 20 and Matthew 19:4 show explicitly that the Genesis account is literal and only happened about 6025 years ago.
From the scientific standpoint, Physics demonstrates in a multitude of ways that the Universe is very young, too young for Evolution to have taken place, and that Evolution is a violation of several known laws of Physics, Chemistry, and even Biology (e.g. Law of Biogenesis).
For example, Blue Stars have relatively short life spans, no more than 10 million years max, and many are around 2 million because they burn so hot and fast, consuming their fuel. Since new stars do not form (there is zero evidence of this and the gas laws and electromagnetic laws that have been observed are contrary to nebulae contracting - they are observed to be expanding), and since there are still blue stars in the universe, the universe cannot be more than a few million years old, maximum. This is not long enough for Evolution to happen.
I could go on, but this is sufficient to show the hypothesis of Evolution false.
