    I ride anti rocker because my technique is terrible. With a flat setup my wheels would bite every edge and I'd go flying, hitting the ground with enough force to create a dust cloud that would block out the sun and start a new ice age.

    I am very grateful for this info on flat set ups- I love riding flat, I do not like how anti-rocker/free style feels... Now, I never claim to be really great at grinds, I am not, I get that non-flat set ups can make grinding easier; I am not willing to give up the control I feel in a flat set up. Team flat here👍

    Team flat for me. I remember trying anti-rocker when I first started aggressive skating as a kid and it took the enjoyment out of skating. I didn't like the, what I would consider choppy style of skating, it caused me to have. Coming back to skating at 43, after close to 25 years away, really glad I chose a flat setup because I would probably look even worse than I do now, on an anti-setup. My body doesn't quite work as well as it did at 15 and I couldn't make it look good then, lol.

    when I came back to blading like many of us, I bought some razors and came with anti-rockers I never did aggressive skating but i immediately was not a fan of anti-rocker,I couldn't take off fast,Id waste lots of more energy just trying to get around and just wasnt for me and the turns and cracks made it less desirable, so I got Aeons riding 58flat and the inside wheels 95 durometer been riding for 2 years I dont recall ever getting "wheel bite"and also i ride from point A to point B sometimes with an anti rocker it would be a nightmare just skating 1mile ,just my experience and preference,every1 can do as they please with their skates and money.

      I have the exact same skates. I agree with you. What I learned is you must replace all the wheels that came on the FLT3 that came with the Razors. I endup just buying Oysi frame and wheels. Big change to the Razors

    The reason I like flat and wizard setups is, they can be easier to turn but still stable.
    Also, I can step on speed bumps with a flat setup. Anti-rocker ones would make me just stuck on them for sure.

    After 23 years away from skating I just bought a pair of Roces 5th element to skate with my little daughter around the parking lot. I always wanted aggressive skates because of their looks but the anti-rocker riding on 2 wheels felt really weird. At first I couldn't tell if it's me being rusty or it's the skates. Glad that nowadays we have options to change frames and wheels. I ordered a set of Rockin 572's because I can see myself riding on the sidewalks and don't want to worry about tripping.

    Team flat over here! I don't focus on grinds as much anyway so I would rather have the speed and feel akin to a bigwheel setup. If I was just skating a ledge all day I would roll anti but that's not my norm.

    Got back into rollerblading this year at 40 after about 20 years away. I bought some used razors that came anti-rocker. The first rail I jumped on I thought I was gonna die. Flat forever. The only reason I'd support anti-rocker is to save $45 bucks on wheels lol.

    Was riding flat for decades and went anti with a new set of NJ Teams a few years ago. I love the way they lock on groove tricks, but have to deal with all of the cons of anti rocker. I could just be in love with the Blank anti frame and the material it is made of. I may give those Blank flats a try if they’re constructed of the same composite.

    What about flat v rocker?
    I was ice skating today... new for me. It was WEIRD with what was basically, 1 wheel touching the ground, so I wondered, once I got used to it, which would be better? I don't notice that big a difference with rocker v my flat setup, BUT...

      On flat I can switch my balance point across entire frame, each wheel stressing knees in a different way. It keeps me on the way without need to rest all the time. Especially on a bumpy street.

  • @airtylerb

    I just got my first skates, used to do a lot of indoor roller rink skating on quads as a kid and now I’m getting into freestyle/slalom skating. I just got a set of powerslide kaze 90’s and I’m loving the flat setup look, it’s super clean, especially with the black boots and frames with white wheels.
    Since I don’t know any better, anyone want to make a case on whether I should stick with the flats or switch to rocker for freestyle skating?

  • @Adam-M-
    @Adam-M- Před 11 měsíci +1

    I started with aggressive skating by using anti-rocker and it just stuck. I think only needing to buy four wheels and bearings was the major reason.

    I just came back to agg after some time away & before that i was just skating old man Urban Freestyle steez but kept doing makio's trashing my rec skates & knew next skates agg. Anyway back on aggs & baught flat set up because i wasnt sure how quick i would be grinding again or at all. Well i have trashed the stock set up & need new frames soul plates & wheels & been heavily thinking about anti-rocker because i skate street & ledges mainly its just a little more sketchy & i have to commit that bit harder, which has had some heavy cost's big falls, been an absolute ansluaght. I always skated anti-rocker in 90s but being older i am worried about my knees, i font remember it being so horrible. In my memory it was exactly the same once you get used to it... But thats a childs memory, a stupid child at that lol.

    FLAT! but most of us older guys were on anti rocker setups back when our knees were younger. Agree that FLAT is much better after 2 knee surgeries. THANKS

  • @swissblader8037
    @swissblader8037 Před 11 měsíci +1

    That is all true. But you need also to say, that you can get horrible injuries if you jump on a ledge with high speed and then get wheel-bite. It can twist your knees or ankles in a horrible way. The same for grinds with spins or on rougher obstacles. Also on rails (especially on square ones) are some flat-frames quite dangerous. So, both setups have advantages and disadvantages. And speedwise I do not agree, that a flat setup is always faster than an antirocker-setup. Some flat-frames are actually pretty slow. And if I use the same wheels and bearings on some antirocker-frames, they are clearly faster. The only flat-frame that I tried that is clearly faster than an antirocker-frame is the Oysi-frame and I think also some metal-frames are also faster. But with all other plastic-flat frames than the Oysi that I tried I was clearly slower than for example with the Kizer fluid IV-antirocker frame.

    • @jorpese1
      @jorpese1 Před 5 měsíci

      Clearly not. I have spent 3 hours today changing from flat to antirocker. Antirocker sucks very hard. Sways 60s with FLT (AR) and Razors SL with Kiser V. No wheelbite. Just bend knees and adjust the angle and you are good.

    #teamflat but I don't completely agree with Rollerblade on 270 being from size 42 onwards.. More like from size 42 to around 45..then you need a little extra wheelbase like on some brands like ground control that make a size XL with 283mm...i can barely see the back wheel pocking out from the back of my skates with my GC HD2 283mm and I'm downsizing to a size 46EU.. Shame they didn't also make it in a size 290 like what blanks usually come preinstalled.. I don't understand why tease us big footers with a decently sized frame for the boot and make a second version and not make it the same size🤷🏼‍♂️🥺

    If you do any sort of actual grinds, flat setup is going to screw you. Wheel bite is horrible. I been skating since 2000 and never once considered riding flat. I dont want to die trying to grind. If all you do is souls and frontsides then go flat. Never known any serious skater to ride flat. The speed sucks with antirocker I have to admit but its better than sticking on a ledge and flying forward.
