    My biggest problem with this route is the OLE. We had the very detailed OLE on routes like Cross City but here we have the old "lazy" OLE where wires just randomly merge and split at junctions. Aside from that the route looks lovely.
    As for the missing stop boards, from the photos and cab ride videos I've seen of the route, there are no stop boards at many of the stations on this route, I'd imagine it's because you can't really fit more than 3-car trains at the platform, so you just stop at the end of the platform anyway. The missing AWS magnets at the signal past that fixed distant is also true to real life.

      That’s all good to know thank you. Can’t say I had noticed the OLE, no doubt I will now it’s been mentioned :-)

    Really enjoying your videos Richard. I used to play loads of train sim classic and recently got train sim world 3. Really enjoying it, haven't gotten any DLCs yet though. I find it fascinating watching a train driver play train sim games.

    Mild irritations/minor details missed first: 5 minutes in, the "wildcard" number for the GSMR around the North West is 996, and the game has it as 998
    The 40 speed limit coming out of Picc doesn't start until you pass the deparures line east of Ardwick station, but the game has it starting at Ardwick Junction
    No AWS magnet for the PSR warning board on approach to Guide Bridge (also, had you oversped there IRL you would likely have tripped a set of TPWS overspeed grids, they're notorious for catching drivers on ECS moves)
    On the plus side though, other than thise minor details they seem to have gotten this right
    A lot of the stations don't have stop car markers IRL either. All the stop car markers that exist IRL are modeled on the route (at least in the Up direction, not yet seen the down)
    Only the fixed distant signals within the Dinting Triangle have AWS magnets. None of the colour light signals do. That is 100% accurate to the real route
    The AWS buttons on the Northern 323s are still the old shiny metal ones, not the new style yellow mushrooms, I love that attention to detail.
    Generally I'd say this was a really well modeled route, there's enough detail that I could find all of my real braking points and I could recognise each of the stations with ease.

    I agree about the soundscapes. Funnily enough the ambient sounds OUTSIDE of stations and trains is pretty good, with bird song in the more peaceful sections and lawn mowers, cars etc in the town areas, but the sounds in stations and train feel empty and really need a little more to the sound design. Muttering, announcements within the stations and other general sound effects would make a big difference. As for the on train sounds, muffled talking and mobile phones ringing/text message notifications would be good but the best, as you mentioned, would be the station callouts t each station would be brilliant.

    Nice video Richard! Enjoyed watching. Big fan of the TSW games. Runs nice on your machine...is it top spec? I'm running a ryzen 7800x3d CPU, 32gb corsair ddr5 7000mhz ram and a Radeon Rx 6800 xt GPU. Mostly playing at 1440p.
    It's a nice looking route and I will be getting it. Nice that Dovetail send you a key! One thing I wouldn't mind them doing for some extra realism, is when you are wandering 'on foot' to allow you to sit down on the platform at stations.

      Glossop is a nice route and it’s a yes from me for sitting on station benches.
      Machine is a RTX 3090, i9 11400k with 32Gb of DDR4 @3600 mhz.
      That’s an impressive spec you have got yourself.

    Guide bridge has a 5 plank wagon on display just behind platform 1, would be nice if they put a sos one there on a length of track would look really good.
    Also most platforms on the route IRL don’t have stop car markers

      @DadRail  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Good to know thank you. As per rule book in the absence of stop car marks trains proceed to the end of the platform.

    The route to atleast Guide Bridge seems decent enough. I sign Picc to Stalybridge via guide bridge and it looked rather accurate

    My old man drives for TPE and he goes to Piccadilly and the airport amongst other places.
    But I want them to do something that incorporates being in and around Doncaster and the yards, which is my stomping ground.

    Can you do a ‘free mode’ if you like? Such as just playing around with it without sticking to any specific targets/timetables?

      As you come in to Dinting station from Manchester on the right hand side there used to be a platform which is now abandoned and as you leave Dinting station heading towards Glossop there used to be a line spur off to the right and that will take you down to Dinting heritage railway centre.

    Looks okay, I'll be getting it anyway and with regards to the price point i reckon given the current financial climate shorter routes utilising existing locos is an idea that people could probably get on board with tbh, 158 alone is ripe for such an idea I'd say.

    • @DadRail
      @DadRail  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I think you are right. The 158 holds so much potential for new routes.

    Do you need to buy the full train sim world 3 game in order to play the glossop line game ?

    • @DadRail
      @DadRail  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes you need the base game in order to play the DLC. Check the steam store the summer sale is on you may be able to get a bargain if playing on PC

    It has been a while since TSW has been around and we still still major stations almost empty and not looking busy with several trains and passengers traffic! It’s no longer a good simulation in my opinion and it’s becoming a bit average since these details are being overlooked
